Hello People! At least I hope you're people... I don't know if I want to be writing for a bunch of talking rabbits.
DISCLAIMER:
Me: Annabeth, would you like to do the honors?
Annabeth: Tell them you don't PJO? I mean, it's true, but I don't want to break the news to them!
Me: Thanks, Annabeth!
Chapter Four
The first day of a new school. Breathe it in. Savor it. Or… not. The first day of my new school, Goode High, was going to be unexpected. For them, at least. Not for me. I knew exactly what was going to happen. My plan would work perfectly. Time to put it into action.
Step One: After registering, walk slowly towards First Period. When you finally get there, make a big show of walking into the room and whispering with the teacher. She/He would announce that you are the new student, and ask you to explain yourself. You then reply that you were the swim team captain of your old school, the one that was on the list of top five best schools in the city, and announce all the awards and stuff you earned.
Notes: This actually worked out better than I wanted. Sure, it didn't quite pan out how I was wishing, but it worked nonetheless and it had an even better result than I was hoping for.
Execution: I walked into the office and told the secretary, "Hi, I'm one of the new students. Max-"
"Vestron. Yes, I know, I know," The secretary was this old lady with BLUE HAIR! What secretary has blue hair? I mean, secretaries can have pink hair or something, but NEVER blue or green. So, she gave me my schedule and I started slowly walking down the hall. About ten minutes later, I realized I didn't know where I was going, so I checked my schedule. Homeroom with Mr. Blofis. Yes. Mr. Blofis was the one good teacher, and I had him for English today, too. I headed to this classroom, but on my way there, I got stopped by a tall boy with black hair and green eyes. He looked familiar, but I couldn't say from where.
"Woah, where are you going?" Black haired boy asked.
"Mr. Blofis' classroom," I replied, seeing a possible ally in him.
"Oh yeah? He's like the best teacher here." And then he snickered for some unknown reason. SERIOUSLY! Why do people keep snickering for reasons I don't know?! Okay, so, he said, "I'm going there too. You want to walk there with me?"
"Sure, man," I told him, and we started walking down the hall in silence. We got to the classroom, and black haired boy sat down while I went over to the teacher."Hi. I'm Max Vestron and I'm new here."
"Kid, you don't have to say a word. You'll do just fine here." Mr. Blofis replied to me. "You can sit next to Percy there." He pointed to someone in the back of the room, at the black haired guy. He half smiled and pointed at the seat next to him, which was empty. I sat down next to him. The class started, with everything else going well, although he didn't ask me to introduce myself.
Step Two: When in second through fourth period, (Math, Science, English). Raise your hand once in a while, but not too often. This will make the teachers love you, while not appearing like a know-it-all to the other students.
Notes: during this time, me and Percy became fast friends, though it soon became apparent that he was friends with EVERYONE! Not because he was a jerk or anything, but because he was just so, so, nice!
Execution: Second Period. Time to make my Math teacher so happy she would cry. I had Mrs. Loaffoot. I surveyed her up and down, changed my plan a bit, and it worked perfectly.
Third period. Science. This one was going to be a bit harder to pull off. At least Percy was here with me. Our teacher was this old man with glasses and sunken cheeks. He was exactly what I'd call a mad scientist.
"Okay. Class. Today we are going to be looking at, um, turtle shells!" Mr. Grumpet announced, coughing A LOT. "Find two partners and choose a shell to investigate. We have Box Turtle shells, Painted Turtles, Diamondbacks, Wood turtles…" He started mumbling about random turtle species, but no one was listening. Everyone had grouped up already.
"Hey, Max!" Percy called out to me. "You want to be with us?" He pointed to himself and a gorgeous girl with curly black hair in a ponytail and blue eyes. She smiled as I walked over and began talking.
"Hi! I'm Alex Queensnow. You're Max? Cool name! I have a cousin on my mom's side named Max. Actually, I don't know how closely related we are. It's really complicated." She was talking at about a mile per minute. "We should choose the Central American Wood Turtle shell. They look super cool. Have you ever seen a turtle in the wild? I used to have a turtle. His name was Timmy." At this point, Percy butted in.
"Cool, Alex, but can you please talk a little bit less? I think Max is a bit scared."
"Oh sorry, Max." She said with a sheepish smile.
After that, we inspected the turtle shell and wrote about it in our notebooks. Alex talked a little bit less, but it turned out that she was actually pretty smart. At the end of the class, Mr. Grumpet congratulated us on working together, which is a sure sign of my plan working.
Turns out I had English with Alex, so after Science we walked to Mr. Blofis's room together.
"Hi, Alex!" He called out to her. She replied, saying something about watching out for Percabeth, whatever that was. He winked at her and told us to sit down. I was already on Mr. Blofis's good side, so I didn't need to worry about that. He taught us about Emily Dickinson, and as homework, we had to memorize a poem written by her. Alex chose A Day, and I chose Two Butterflies went out at Noon, because it reminded me of Annabeth.
Step Three: Lunch. Perfect, because I already had made a group of people to hang with.
Notes: Are Percy and Alex dating? They seemed like more than just friends, but I never saw them kissing or anything.
Execution: Why was Lunch so short here? Only half an hour to wait in line, sit down and chat, and eat? At least the food here was way better than what we had at Germell. I had Second Lunch with both Percy and Alex, and they introduced me to some of their other friends. We got our food, and sat on a picnic bench outside in the courtyard. We were talking about swim tryouts, because turns out Percy and his friends were on the team, when this girl came up.
"Hi Percy!" She squealed excitedly. "What day are swim tryouts? I finally think that I can make it on the team!"
Percy answered her, "Hey Ashley! Swim tryouts are Wednesday afternoon. I bet you can make it, but are you ready for us to go to State?"
Ashley replied, "You'll lead us to victory, I'm sure." Huh. She must have realized that I was going to become captain. She sat down with us, but soon after the bell rang.
Step Four: Gym. Sadly, I didn't know anyone in Gym, but that was okay. All we were playing was Guard the Pins.
Notes: Gym was really boring, but at least I got those jerks on the other team good.
Execution: The rules were simple. Two teams, ten pins for each team. You put the pins at the edge of your side of the gym, and the other team does the same. You grab as many balls as you can, and throw them at the other team's pins to knock them over, but you can't go over your team's half of the gym.
Anyways, the captains were this guy named Jerry Jurenko, who was also new here, and this jerk named Darin Greene. I had been lucky enough to be with Jerry, who I saw Darin had already made an enemy, and if I was with Jerry and we lost, I would be Darin's new enemy. At least we had, well, me on the team, and if I do say so myself, I am pretty good. We crushed them, thanks to me, and it probably didn't hurt that we had Robert Ross on our team too, as he was the captain of the football team or something. I was new, so I wasn't totally sure.
Step Six: After School tutoring.
Notes: I wouldn't have done this, but my mom insisted, so I had to go to the library after school and take this weird test.
Execution: The whole setup was really weird. You had to go into the library, sign up, and then take a test to see if you were "ready" for tutoring. Basically it was an IQ test. I was surprised to see Alex was there, because she didn't really seem like a tutor-y person.
"Hi Max!" She called out to me. The librarian didn't like that and glared at us.
"Oh, sorry, Mrs. Girenko." Alex whispered. I sat down next to her and we both took our respective tests. At the end of the time, Mrs. Girenko came and collected all of the tests. When she got to our table, she glared at us quietly and walked away.
"Thank you for taking the assessment, everyone," Mrs. Girenko uttered in a VERY high, squeaky voice. Oh, that's right. They didn't call it a test so people wouldn't freak out. Instead it was an "assessment". "I have your assignments right here." She continued, "Hattie Browning with Shayne Richardson; Kendall Bradford with Elwood Stone; Beau Dawson with Marrisa Tucker; Laurie Fowler with Elsa Vance; Brenda Gentry with Titus Leonard," The list went on and on, "Landon Wall with Marta Bright; Max Vestron with Clint Newton, Alex Queensnow with Cherie Turner, and Matt Yin with Daniel Wang." FINALLY! She stopped at last. Wait… who was I with?
Alex was talking again."Okay, so you're with Clint Newton? He'll be easy to crack. Cherie on the other hand, is a challenge. I like challenges," Ooh. Clint Newton. That's who I was with. At least it was a guy and not one of those annoying girls with bad grades. "You ready to go?" Alex asked me. I smiled and we walked out together. "Are you going to try out for the swim team?" Alex asked me.
"Yeah, what about you?" I replied, not mentioning my plans of becoming captain. She just shrugged and walked on. "Bye, see you tomorrow." She said, smiling. I waved and took the subway home.
That's what we have for today, people. It's a little bit different then normal, but I hope you like it! Next chapter will be the swim tryouts! Yay! We can see Max fail! Oh, did I just spoil it for you? Well, too bad! I should probably make Max a little nicer, but it's just so much fun writing about him like this! Oh, right. Reviews!
JoeBob: Yeah, you're probably right. Max is more like an um, dumpster rat, I guess.
ALANKRITA: We probably should feel bad for Max, but I don't!
Potatoqueensnow: Thank you so much for the character! I didn't know what her last name was, so I just named her after YOU! Thanks again. She is so sweet.
Anniguaca: Coincidence? I think not. The only person (besides my character) I know named Max is in third grade, and he is really nice. I laughed A LOT when I read this review.
Anyways, this was really fun to write today, and I hope you enjoyed it, because if you didn't, I don't have anything else for you right now.
Bye peeps,
KittenLuv
