Hi People! I'm still alive, yeah, but I have been um... busy? No, I'm not kidding. I am now a staff on the community The Reason I love PJO, and it's pretty cool, so check it out. I have also been working on a parody of Harry Potter called Is Dudley Really Dumb?, co-written by my friend (she did most of it) and... yeah! So, for those of you who are actually reading this, here is the next chapter!
DISCLAIMER: I am not a guy, but Rick Riordan is, and he owns the PJO universe. Therefore, I cannot own it!
Chapter 6
Monday arrived, and I was feeling refreshed and ready to start my day as the new swim captain. When I got to school, I didn't go to the pool right away. I decided I would wait until after lunch, so I would be "surprised" when I saw that I was captain. I took the subway to school like normal, and walked to my first class, ready to be congratulated by my teammates. For some reason, those congratulations didn't come.
I asked Percy at lunch who was the new captain, because I knew he had already gone to check the list out, but he replied and said it wasn't up yet. I didn't get a chance to see for myself until the end of the day, and I knew it would be out then.
Percy, Trevor, Ashley (she tried out for the girls team), and I went to check out the bulletin board after school ended. Unfortunately, Percy's mom called and said someone was waiting for him at home, so he said he had to go. After that, we talked and laughed, but it was kind of awkward without Percy. As we neared the pool, Ashley made an odd remark.
"Too bad the captain won't be here to see that he's the captain!" She said, and Trevor laughed. That was confusing, but only until I saw the board right inside the pool. The sheet said:
Goode High School Boys Varsity Swim Team:
Teammates: Beau Dawson, Robert Dentry, Jim Entreson, Don Frost, George Fitzgerald, Peter Hardy, Woodrow Hunt, Percy Jackson, Trever Kennedy, Russel Lunson, Gene Pearson, Thomas Peterson, Ross Rogers, Anthony Todd, James Whitaker, Max Vestron
Captain: Percy Jackson
Junior captain: Max Vestron
I was the Junior Captain? This could not be happening! It was terrible. Unfortunately, Ashley though otherwise.
"You're Junior Captain?" She asked, "That's amazing! It's pretty much the equivalent to being co-captain, because no one can beat Percy. I wish I was Junior Captain." She sighed with a dreamy look on her face.
"Why can't anyone beat Percy?" I asked Ashley.
"He was like, made for the water," She replied. Oh. I saw what was happening.
"Do you have a cru-ush?" I teased her. She shook her head vigorously and pointed at Trevor.
"I'm dating that doofus," She stage whispered. I had no idea what Trevor was doing at that moment, but it soon became clear.
"YOU!" He shouted. "YOU TOOK MY SPOT!" I was confused.
"What spot?" I asked him.
"The Junior Captain spot," He replied. Well, at least he had stopped yelling! I had finally figured out just how valuable this spot was, especially since Trevor had seemed like a pretty easy going guy. I slowly backed away, but bumped into something. Percy? Uh oh. That captain spot should have been mine. I did the only logical thing. I ran from the scene of the crime.
I walked into the apartment.
"Mom? I called. It was five thirty. She should be back by now! The only thing I could find was a piece of paper with some writing on it. It said:
Hey hon! Ran to the grocery store to get some things for dinner. Can you preheat the oven to four hundred and fifty degrees for me? Be back soon!
Love, Mom
She was not going to be happy when she found out I wasn't captain. I turned the oven on and started on my homework. I still hadn't memorized my Emily Dickenson poem, so I worked on that. I may or may not have been acting it out when my mom came barreling through the door.
"MAX!" She shouted. I jumped off of the couch onto the hardwood floor.
"Yeah, Mom?" I asked her. She just shook her head.
"So, did you make it on the swim team?" She asked.
"I am officially the Junior Captain of the varsity team." I replied gloomily. "But not Captain." She just smiled and gave me a big hug.
"Good job, Max." She said. "I heard their captain was one of the best in the state. He probably has just had more time in that pool, but you are most likely better." I KNEW IT! That was what it was. Maybe, once I had adjusted to that pool, we could have a competition, and whoever won would be the captain. His problem, though, was that he was a long distance swimmer and would not win in a real race.
"Now, c'mon. I think there are still some cookies left over!" And my mom left to go put a chicken in the oven.
It was so short! I know! But sometimes boring, short things are necessary to get to the good stuff. I will post a new chapter soon, and I have a poll that five people have voted on, and they all voted on different things, so can someone please go vote? Also, I need an opinion. Should I keep Max mortal, or make him a D*E*M*I*G*O*D? Your choice, people!
Reviews:
Potatoqueensnow: That's a great idea! I would use it, but I can't kill off Max... yet. Oh, and Max's mom's cookies taste like rotten pumpkins compared to Sally's. :p
poseidonsdaughter1982: Haha. Here is your update! Also, I specialize in cliffhangers, so watch out!
Booklover: You are the new oracle. You predicted that Percy was going to be captain of the swim team and you were right! Also, Will and Nico's ship name is Solangelo and they are awesome!
HoO Stories: Well, since Percy is the demigod son of Poseidon, I should hope so!
JoeBob: Maybe Coach Natare should teach flying lessons, too... Also, I have a plan for Annabeth and Percy. You're just gonna have to wait!
ALSO! There was someone who reviewed who's review didn't turn up in my email, and now I can't find them so I can't respond to them! (cue sobbing) You guys are so awesome and I'm sorry for not updating sooner! In other news, we have over four thousand views! Yay!
Bye people,
