People! We have gotten more than ten THOUSAND views! Also, I haven't updated in nearly two weeks, as a guest named Booklover kindly pointed out on two other of my stories, Is Dudley really Dumb and my poem, If Only you were There. Thank you for keeping my motivation up, and therefore, this chapter is dedicated to booklover. I'm probably forgetting something in my author's note, but whatever.
DISCLAIMER:
If you think I own Percy Jackson and his family, you would be very, very, wrong. My name doesn't even begin with an R!
Chapter 10
Yeah, you heard me right. Things went wrong in Science. With Mr. Grumpet. Supposedly he had been teaching for seventy years or something in this building, ever since they had offered a biology class, so his method was supposed to be 'foolproof'. It might have been foolproof, but there was no way it was Maxproof, so I decided to strike Percy there. I asked Alex if she wanted to work with me, knowing full well that she would make Percy be with us. She said yes, just like that. She got up from the desk next to mine over to where Percy was sitting.
"Okay, just let me grab Percy." She came back a second later with Percy, and they sat down. The desks in Mr. Grumpet's classroom were arranged in sort of a star shape, fitting five people at one. Usually, we worked in groups of three or five, but not always.
"Don't we need two more people?" Percy asked. I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah," Alex backed him up. "I'll go get Beverly and Ashley." She ran over to get the two girls while Percy and I just stared at each other. Finally, he broke the silence.
"Sooo, how's life?" He asked.
"Fine, why do you care?" I responded snootily.
"Jeez, no reason to get upset," Percy was acting defensive now. "It was just a question!" I rolled my eyes. Nothing was ever 'just a question.' He was probably trying to collect intel on me, so that when I struck at him he would have something to fight back with. Not that there was anything to fight back with.
Alex came back with Beverly and Ashley, her best friends, (Or so I assumed, because I never payed attention to anyone except me,) and they sat down quietly,
"So, are we going to get this done or not?" Alex asked. I had been too busy analyzing the enemy that I hadn't realized that she had been trying to get my attention.
"Um… yeah. What are we supposed to be doing?" That was Percy. Super ignorant. I mean, I had the same question, but he actually asked it!
"I think we're mixing potassium and water together to see what we get," Alex seemed to always have an answer for everything. "But Mr. Grumpet is super boring, so we're not actually doing that. He is." She motioned her head towards the teacher, who was getting out a beaker and some sort of- was that a rock?
"So," He said. "We are going to mix this," He held up the rock, "With this." He held up the beaker, which was filled with what I assumed was water. "Let's go outside."
We followed Mr. Grumpet to the East Parking Lot, which was the parking lot closest to Biology Lab. He placed a tarp on the ground and told everyone to back up. Mr. Grumpet placed the beaker in the middle of the tarp and held up the rock.
"I'm going to cut this in half and place it into the water." He said in his wheezy voice. Mr. Grumpet placed half of the rock in the beaker and backed up. The potassium fizzed and gave off sparks, and eventually disappeared. Why he needed the tarp, I have no idea. It wasn't like it actually did anything. "Now get into your groups again and, using your journals, come up with why you think the water reacted." We went back inside, and the five of us sat at one of the table groups and got out our notebooks. Except for Percy.
"Where's your notebook?" I asked him casually.
"What do you mean?" He answered the question with another question.
"I mean, we all have our science notebooks out except you. What did you do with it?" This guy was getting more annoying by the second.
"Oh, that thing?" What was up with him? I was pretty sure by this point that he had a severe case of Superobliviousandjustplainannoyingitis, a rare disease that only the most annoying (and stupid) people have. Whatever, though. I just had to put up with it for a little longer. "It disappeared last week. I've looked all over for it, but I just can't seem to find it, so Mr. Grumpet just said I could tell Alex what to write."
Now, at this point it would be good to mention that I was the one who took his notebook. Sorry, Percy, but it wasn't 'lost', I just- ah- borrowed it. Yes, this was all part of the master plan I had constructed just that morning, let's call it 'Operation Platypus', but it was not going too well for me. I didn't worry, because even though his journal didn't have any juicy stuff in it- in fact, it didn't have much of anything in it, even science stuff- I still had four more stages of plans.
"I think I saw it in Max's backpack." Why did Alex have to be here? "I mean, it's fine if you want to tell me what you think we should write down, and I'm probably wrong, but can't you check his backpack just to make sure? It might have fallen in there." This was taking a turn for the worse. I had to do something.
"I'll go check," I suggested, "I don't really like people rummaging through my personal things." I shot laser eyes at Percy for that last phrase, even though I knew he didn't do anything. He just looked at Alex and shrugged.
"Go ahead." Alex said, so that's exactly what I did. I jogged to the door, only to be stopped by Mr. Grumpet.
"What do you think you're doing?" He asked. I didn't know whether to lie or to tell the truth, so I chose the latter. Even if I had lied, I don't think the science teacher would have bought it. That guy can literally see through anything, probably even actual walls, if he wanted to.
"I was going to check my backpack to see if Percy's notebook was in there." I said, hoping he would buy it. He crossed his eyes at me.
"Hmph. Fine. But only if you take one of them." He pointed at Ashley and Beverly. Apparently they were hall monitors, so they never got in trouble. "Which one." It was a question, but the way he said it made it sound more like a statement. I pointed to Ashley, so Mr. Grumpet called Beverly over.
"Yes, Mr. Gruuumpet?" She asked with two extra u's added to the Gru. "Do you need anything?" Mr. Grumpet, or Mr. Gruuumpet, as Beverly called him, just pointed to me.
"Deal with him." He walked away, presumably to check on other groups. Beverly gave me a face that said: 'I feel bad for you, but I soooo don't want to be you'. Out loud she said:
"This is about the science journal thing, isn't it." I simply nodded, and she walked out the door with me following close behind.
When we got to my locker, she unlocked it for me.
"How do you know my combination?" To which I got a 'You're so stupid, how do you not know my locker combination' face. Expressions really seemed to be her thing. I grabbed my backpack and pretended to be searching through it, even though I knew exactly where it was, in the second largest pocket.
"I don't see it." I said, still fake searching through my backpack pockets. Beverly snorted.
"That's because it's right here." She waved a red notebook in my face. I grabbed it.
"Where did you find it?" I didn't have to pretend to be surprised, especially when she answered.
"It was on the bottom of your locker. How you could have missed it, I have no idea." She rolled her eyes, grabbed my backpack and put it away, and started walking down the hall. "Let's get back to class."
Alex, Ashley, and Percy were waiting for us. Ashley looked kind of mad, while Alex had a slightly amused expression on her face. It was Percy who talked first, though.
"You found it?" He asked. Did he seriously still think he had lost his journal? Beverly smiled widely.
"Yep, right here. Max stole it." What?! I jutted out my chin.
"You have no basis to support your argument," I said, at the same time Ashley said,
"HAH! I knew it!" Alex looked at me and glared.
"Was that really necessary?" She asked. "I thought I had a friend in you. After what happened at the swim meet, I was going to give you another try, but you just had to ruin that, too." She grabbed me. "Everyone, back to work."
That was a touch dramatic, I think. Now, onto the reviews!
Reviews:
123Thomas123: Thank you! I'm glad you think it's good, and I have finally updated!
Booklover: No worries! Even if I don't have any online school, I still have to do schoolwork. Life is so weird. This story is a lot like other ones, but most of those are from Percy or Annabeth's point of view.
SeaMaster: I will keep writing!
poseidonsdaughter1982: To be fair, I got my cat before I read Percy Jackson. I wanted to name him Loki, but alas, it was Zeus. Thank you.
IAmTheUltimateFangirl: He will see soon enough...
SpecialDemiTitan: I'm not done! There are still five more chapters to go, and this is my story, so I say those chapters are part of it. :)
Astoria creates: I will probably update as soon as I finish the next chapter, but it might be a few days because I am working on another story right now. Also, thank you.
I think that was a pretty good chapter, but I don't know what you think.
Goodbye!
