Happy New Year to our favorite fictional couple...
It was a rare situation that caused Seeley Booth to be rendered speechless. He could usually come up with an irreverent quip on the spur of the moment without giving it much thought.
However…
...seeing his Bones in that short red dress...that short red dress that fit her like a second skin...that short red dress that showed off every curve, leaving practically nothing to the imagination…
That short red dress had done the trick, and now he was tongue tied. He swallowed hard, trying to come up with a clever line, but nothing came to mind...it seemed his brain had given way to his currently raging libido.
Holding the champagne flute she'd given him, he stood in her doorway as if rooted to the spot, enraptured as he watched her walk away from him. She was gorgeous no matter what she wore, but seeing her in that tight red knit dress, clinging to her lithe body with its lush curves...well, it was like a dream come true. She was breathtaking.
He took in the vision before him as if wanting to remember it forever. She was barefoot for some reason, and her toenails were painted bright red to match her dress...that thigh high slit in the hem seemed to be calling his name...the way the lightweight fabric clung to her breasts caused his heart to beat wildly…a faint whiff of perfume filled his nostrils...and his senses were overwhelmed. His mind was at the point of turning everything over to his body...he was about to lose control. Sizing up the situation with his finely honed Ranger skills, he was on the verge of charging at her so he could pick her up and whisk her away to her bed, where they'd make crazy love for hours on end.
Suddenly, she turned to him with a smile. "Booth? Aren't you coming in?"
"What? Oh...yeah. Sorry." He shuffled into her apartment carrying the glass, setting it down before he shrugged a duffel bag's strap from his shoulder. "I gotta say, Bones...you look...amazing…"
She sat down on the sofa and pulled her legs up underneath her. "Thank you. Angela felt certain that you'd like this dress…"
And she was right! Thanks, Angela! He grinned as he sat down next to her. "Well, you know...I think you look great in everything, so…"
She giggled before kissing his cheek. "It's nice to know that you think so." She wore a coy smile as she brushed her hair over her shoulder. "Angela thought you might find it sexually provocative, and I agreed. In fact, that's why I decided not to wear it to Director Rollins' Christmas party…I decided it would be better for a different occasion, such as tonight..."
Booth waggled an eyebrow at her as he took a sip of champagne. "If you'd been wearing that dress, we definitely wouldn't have made it to the Director's party." Seeing her slight grimace, he rushed to explain. "I mean, you looked great in that black dress, and I'm looking forward to seeing you in it again...like maybe at another party or something like that. But this one…" He gestured from her shoulders down to her knees. "...you do look beautiful in this, too, but I don't think anyone else should get to see how great you look. I think it should be just for me."
"I see." She slowly licked her lips as she studied him. "Are you being territorial when it comes to me, Booth?"
"Yeah, maybe. I mean, you look so damn hot tonight, and, of course, as an alpha male, being seen with you when you look this way would definitely enhance my standing within my herd and all that shit, but maybe I also don't want everyone else to see how good I have it, because they might try to take it away from me, right? I want to avoid the competition from all the other alphas and stuff like that, okay?"
Batting her eyelashes at him, Brennan smiled sweetly. "Excellent application of anthropology, Booth."
"Yeah?" He grinned as she snuggled next to him. "Maybe I've learned something about it after all these years of working with you."
"Perhaps...although surely you don't think I'd be willing to give you up simply because of some random interloper who might make incursions into our territory." She regarded him seriously. "I'm quite satisfied with the way things are...and with you..."
He shrugged as he gently rubbed her shoulder. "Good...but, you know, I gotta keep on my toes. I don't want to get complacent, okay? Who knows what might happen if I let my guard down? You might feel like you'd want to spice things up with someone else."
"I understand your point, but let me assure you...you have nothing to be concerned about." She poured some more champagne into their flutes. "I do want to ask you a question, however." Seeing him nod, she continued quietly. "Do you think I've lied to Angela?"
"About what?" Surprised at her question, he shook his head. "Oh, about our New Year's plans? Well…" Booth thought things over for a minute or two. "I don't know." He wore a silly grin as he looked around her apartment. "I guess this hotel room in Montreal does look a lot like your apartment…"
She rolled her eyes at him in mock exasperation. "You know what I mean! I told her I was going to Montreal to present a seminar, when in reality I'll be staying here with you for several days! Isn't that a lie?"
"Well, in the strictest sense of the word, I suppose so." Booth caressed Brennan gently as she sighed. "But let's look at it this way, okay? Let's suppose we're on an undercover assignment, okay? When we go undercover, we don't always tell the whole truth about what's going on...we make up stuff about where we're going and what our backstories are, right?"
"I suppose that's true…"
"Right. And if Angela knew you were going to be here in town, spending some very personal time with me over the next few days, she'd be calling you every thirty minutes or so to get the skinny, right? She'd want to know everything that was going on, and we'd never have a moment's peace until she found it out…"
"Also true…"
"So this way, since we both came up with suitably believable stories, we get to spend the next few days alone together without anyone bothering us…" Booth wore a naughty smirk as he sipped his drink. "And although we may not really be on an undercover assignment, we are planning to spend a lot of time under the covers...so I think the same rules apply."
Brennan giggled at his silly joke. "I think your answer is almost logical...but what if she finds out I never left town? And won't people notice that you didn't get a tan on your supposed trip to Florida?"
"If she asks you about your trip, just tell her the seminar got canceled or something like that...and believe me, Bones...you're the only person I know who'd notice if I came home from a Florida trip without a tan…"
Still somewhat unconvinced, Brennan finally nodded in agreement. "Okay. You know I don't lie, but...I do want our time together to be as uninterrupted as possible…and perhaps it's permissible for me to give into temptation and not tell her the truth...just this once...to protect our privacy."
"Exactly." He drained his glass and put it on the table. "So...did you stock the refrigerator for our holiday time together?"
"Yes...I made sure we have plenty of beer. I purchased some of that soup you like from your favorite deli...vegan lunch goods for me and sandwich meat and bread for you…and we can probably have some meals delivered if we want."
She rose from the sofa and waved for him to join her in the kitchen. Opening the refrigerator, she took out some ramekins. "I'm going to put some macaroni and cheese in the oven for this evening's dinner…"
"Yum." Smiling happily, Booth pulled her into his embrace. "Dinner sounds good...and I can't wait for dessert…"
Chuckling, she gave him a flirty grin and a peck on the cheek. "So...did you bring the items I requested?"
"Yep...they're in my bag. I've got my hockey jersey...the nerd glasses from when I went as a squint for Halloween a couple of years ago...a sleeveless tee shirt...and a couple of other surprises. What about you?"
"I found some eyeglasses that might be suitable for a librarian, as well as my Wonder Woman costume, and I also brought home my lab coat, although I'm not sure I understand why you asked for that…"
Booth cocked an eyebrow at her. "You'll see…I'll show you later." He paused as he ran his hand down her lower back towards her hips, and an impish grin spread across his face. "Bones...are you going commando?"
"What?" Her brows knit for a few seconds before she nodded slightly. "Oh...I see." Turning away from him, she started the oven. "When I bought this dress, I asked the boutique's proprietor what sort of undergarments I should wear with it, and she said none." Brennan giggled as she heard his soft groan. "However, I was surprised to find that I was uncomfortable wearing the dress that way, so I put on a thong…"
"A thong?," Booth croaked. "Really? Jesus, Bones…"
"Yes, you know...it's basically a lace triangle held in place with elastic…"
"Oh, I know what a thong is, alright." He quickly grabbed her hand. "C'mon...dinner can wait…"
"What? Why? I thought you'd be hungry…"
"I am, but not for food…"
Much to Brennan's surprise, Booth scooped her up and carried her bridal style into her bedroom. After gently putting her on the bed, he stripped down to his boxers and lay down next to her.
"Now then…" Booth's hand moved up Brennan's thigh and under the slit in the hem of her dress. "...let's do some role play, alright?"
"What do you have in mind?," she purred, moaning softly at his caresses. "Maybe a spy and a femme fatale?"
"Nah...I was thinking maybe Tony and Roxie in Las Vegas." Booth grinned as he moved his hand under her dress and ran his fingers across her lower abdomen. "You know, I always felt like we had some unfinished business there…"
"I take it you don't mean gambling…"
Pushing the snug red dress up over her hips, he inserted his fingers into the lacy red thong she was wearing. "Oh, I don't know...it looks like maybe I'm gonna hit the jackpot…"
Oooooooooo
An hour later, Brennan was sitting up in bed, smiling as she watched Booth sleep. "He certainly has a marvelous physique.," she murmured to herself. "And remarkable stamina…a very fitting mate for an alpha female such as myself..."
Hearing his lover mumbling softly, Booth opened a sleepy eye. "What?"
"Nothing…" She moved to lay next to him, running her fingers across his well developed pectoral muscles. "I was just admiring you."
"I see." Fully wake now, he grinned as he put his arms around her. "I'm glad you think there's something to be admired…"
"There is." She sighed softly as she enjoyed their physical proximity. "By the way, thank you for assisting me in fulfilling my New Year's resolution."
Booth rolled his eyes at her. "I thought you didn't make resolutions…"
She giggled softly. "Normally, I don't feel the need to do so, as I'm usually satisfied with myself and the way I conduct my life. However, I felt like I wanted to do something different this year."
He nodded slowly. "I guess that makes sense. So what was this resolution? Was it to wear me out in bed so I'd be a docile boyfriend?"
Laughing out loud, she pretended to punch his arm. "NO! I don't want you to be docile, and I'm not sure the term 'boyfriend' is appropriate…"
"But you will go for the whole 'wearing me out in bed'' thing...," Booth grinned as he brushed her hair away from her face. "...and I'm definitely okay with that…"
She pretended to scowl at him. "Fine...perhaps that does go with my resolution." Fidgeting with the hem of the sheet, she shrugged. "I want us to experience 'togetherness', Booth. I want us to be together as a full time couple…on a permanent basis..."
"C'mon, Bones…" Booth smiled as he pulled her closer. "...me and you, we're gonna be together for good, okay? We're gonna experience the rest of our lives together. Nothing's gonna stop me from being with you, okay? And not just for this year...I'm talking about thirty or forty or fifty years…"
"Are you sure that's what you want?"
The uncertainty in her eyes took his breath away. "Look, I know I've made some mistakes this past year, okay? But I think I've always known...ever since I met you...that I wanted us to be together for good. And I promise you this...if I have anything to do with it, we're gonna be together for a long, long time…"
"I love you, Booth.," she whispered. "I always will…"
"I love you, too, Bones…" Booth kissed her gently. "Now...we've got some time to kill before we ring in the New Year, so how about me and you make the most of our time...together."
Laughing happily, she quickly moved to straddle his waist. "Happy New Year to us, Booth!"
