Writer's Note: This is the first story I've ever written about Isa, since I had never really written one about him.. There hasn't been many stories based on Isa and so I had decided to make it.. Truth be told, this had kinda just came to me while listening to some creepy stories while on my way to work.. It may be a bit unusual but I still hope you like it. (Rated for dark themes)
Prologue
Isa let out a sigh as he made his way down the mostly empty streets of Twilight Town. Not many people were out at this particular time of day. He continued walking through town, heading toward the wall which had once been the main access to the old mansion. Isa stopped walking as he was met by a newly assembled wall. He looked from his right to his left, finding no other way through to the other side.
Isa let out a breath through his nose as he pursed his lips in thought. Turning around, he began to backtrack from where he had passed the Underground Conduit and slowly made his way in, coughing as his eyes stung from the stale air, accompanied the sound of muffled splashes of the murky water beneath his boots. Isa quickened his pace, keeping his focused on making it out of the sewers and reaching the forest.
At long last, Isa felt the welcoming breeze brush past his face, allowing Isa to finally relax as he made it out into the clearing which led into the forest. A light breeze blew through the trees, making the branches rustle and causing small leaves to fall around him, causing a soft smile to spread across Isa's face. It seemed to have been years since he had been to the forest. Something about it seemed peaceful. He glanced about the clearing, taking in the sounds of birds that trilled in the trees of the forest as soon began to make his way down the path to head toward the mansion.
Isa made his way through the forest, his feet lightly crunching within the tightly packed dirt. He looked all around, soon taking notice of a section of the forest he could not remember seeing before. Isa stopped walking as he surveyed his options. He could either follow the path and head to the mansion, or leave the path to explore the hidden section of forest. After a moment or so, he decided to head toward the hidden forest.
It felt like he had been walking for hours as he continued onward, soon taking notice of the huge branches above him seemed to stretch out and block out any light from shining in through the thick canopy of leaves. He had been so entranced by the sight above him, that he nearly ran head-first into a tree, causing him to stop as he took in his surroundings.
It was a massive and sturdy oak, the trunk reaching high up into canopy of the forest. Isa turned to look at the tree itself, taking in much if the detail. It was clearly very old, but still quite sturdy and showed no signs of disease or rot. Even the bark was unblemished, showing no signs of wood-peckers or other creatures. Isa stared at the tree, taking in the sight of the untarnished bark of the tree.
He turned his gaze up at the large and gnarled limbs which was empty of any leaves, many of which had already begun to pile at its base. It was at that moment, Isa realized there was a lack of any sound within this section of the forest. The songs of birds, the scrapping of branches, and even the wind blowing through the forest.. Had gone completely silent. That was, however, when he heard what he could only describe as a scratching type of noise. Isa looked all around to find where the sound was coming from. He turned this way and that, trying in vain to place the source of the noise. Isa soon stopped walking to see if it would be easier to find the sound if he was standing still.
Isa listened closely to where he could hear the scratching. He turned his attention toward the direction where he could hear the sounds, stopping as his gaze landed on the massive old tree. Long and gnarled branches hung low enough for him to be able to reach if he were to stand on the many ever spreading roots which tore up the mostly barren ground. Slowly raising his gaze up toward the upper branches of the tree. As he continued to look at it, he felt an unexplained shiver run down his back as the tangled leafless branches almost seemed to bend slightly, as if welcoming him among its branches. Isa took a step back from the tree, watching in morbid fascination as the tree's branches seemed to bend back into their natural position the farther he distanced himself away from the tree.
"You are being ridiculous.." he told himself. "Trees cannot move on their own.."
He began to turn around when he heard the scratching once more. His feet crunched long dead leaves as he drew closer once more, peering up at the old tree once more. Isa continued to take in the sight of the old tree. They appeared to be leaning much closer towards him now. Its large and spindly branches straining, almost reaching for him. Isa swallowed the lump in his throat and backed away on trembling legs. However, he felt a sharp pain as one of the branches seemed to shoot out and catch him in the shoulder.
Isa let out a cry of agony as he was knocked to the ground! He clenched his eyes shut, gritting his teeth as a branch swooped down and struck him in the side. Isa gasped as he tried to catch the breath that had been knocked out of him. He gripped at his side, horror washing over him as he saw his hand becoming covered in a deep crimson. Isa quickly and painfully scrambled to try and get to his feet, only for vines covered in thorns to wrap around his legs, the thorns digging deep into his skin as they began to drag him closer toward the now bulging trunk, the wood of which beginning to split apart to reveal sharp needle like spines within.
The next thing Isa knew was awaking with a jolt as he felt someone grabbing him by the shoulders. He took in a deep gasp of breath as he shot up into the seated position, surprising Axel, who had been in the process of shaking him.
Author's Note: This is something a bit new to me still so it might be a bit unusual.. I will try to get more up soon..
