I'm sure many of you have seen the promo shots released for the February 3 episode, especially the one of Adam holding Kim on the couch. There's so much going on in that shot, Adam laughing while Kim stares, and then there's the questions of how they got to that place and what it means.

This a one shot, my interpretation of what that picture means. Who knows what the show will do with it. Even though the picture, synopsis, and promo clip seems promising for Burzek, I don't trust it lol. Here are some of my long winded musings, hopefully I'm not jinxing anything.

It had been a really long day. She let her body be cradle by the soft, warm blankets and for the first time in a while she felt a little bit of peace. That was her last thought as her eyes drifted shut and she welcomed the sleep that washed over her.

"Hey, I think she's finally asleep," Kim said softly while keeping her gaze on Mikayla. Adam rose from the floor and peaked over Kim to see the resting girl's face. "Yeah, that's good. You want to head out in the other room, we can keep watch from there."

Kim hesitated, unsure if she should leave her in case she woke up scared. Adam could sense it and gently placed his hand on her arm. "Kim, we'll be 15 feet away. With the door open she can see the couch."

She knew he was right and nodded slightly, slowly raising herself from the bed and tucking the blankets in tightly. She stood back and watched her sleep, making sure her breaths were even. Adam wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her back to him, telling her without words that she, they, could count on him. Kim smiled and wrapped her own arms over his, never breaking sight of Mikayla. After a few moments she broke his hold but held his hand as she led them from the room. She let go as she detoured into the kitchen. "You want a beer?"

"God, yes," Adam said as he plopped down onto the corner of the couch that lined up with Mikayla's room. Kim walked toward him and handed him his beer and sat in the middle of the couch with her own bottle. She stared into her guest room at the little girl that was continuing to break and steal her heart.

"So, what's next?" Adam asked as he placed his bottle on the end table. Kim's face was unreadable but he knew a million thoughts were floating through her brain. He rubbed her thigh hoping to break her trance. It did the trick and Kim took a pull of her beer before resting back against the couch. "DCFS is dropping by in the morning for a site visit. Platt and Voight pulled strings to let her stay here tonight while the emergency foster paperwork goes through. After that, I don't know."

Adam grunted his agreement and patted her leg. "Do you need me to do anything to help you prep for the visit?"

Kim's eyes shot open as the realization of what would be happening in less than 12 hours hit her. "Oh my God, what are they going to look for? Adam, I don't have stuff for a child here! I barely have food in the fridge, we work so much it feels like I live at the 21st. And there are hardly any children in this building, I'm not near a park... Schools! Adam, I don't even know where the nearest school is!"

"Hey, hey, Darlin' it's going to be ok," He said as he reached over and pulled her to his chest. "They know how fast this is happening and no one is going to expect you to have this all sorted out in a day. She's safe, she's warm and..."

"She's wanted. I want her here, Adam." Kim said firmly, sitting up so Adam could see the determination in her eyes. He leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on her forehead, letting her again rest on him. "I know Kim, she's going to have a home here. And I'll help you with anything you need."

Kim didn't say anything, just moving her head back to his chest and fully submitting to the comfort in Adam's arms. They stayed that way for another few minutes before Adam chuckled and reached for his beer. "DCFS didn't know what hit them today with Platt and Voight on the case. One is bad enough but them as a tag team, dear God."

Kim almost smiled, her mind still occupied with the day's activities. "Yeah, I'm never going to live long enough to pay them back, am I?" Adam laughed this time as he put his beer back on the table and gripped her arm a little tighter. "They both have a soft spot for you, and kids, but Platt lives for us owing her favours. I think she only helps us so we have to pay her back later. Believe me, I know."

Her smile grew as she picked at the button on his shirt. "Spoken like a man that almost became 'Mr. Platt.' Her father loved you right?"

"Ok, can we not go there?" Adam asked as he stilled her hand. "Today has been enough by itself, we don't need to add to it."

She nodded against his chest as her phone dinged. Pulling it from her pocket she saw it was just another reminder to return the voicemail from the clinic.

"That DCFS?" he asked while glancing into Mikayla's room. Kim pocketed her phone again, "No, just another message from Dr. Eli."

He knew that name from somewhere. "Eli? Eli... why is that familiar?"

Kim paused before answering, knowing if she connected the dots Adam was going to ask why he was calling and that would lead to a conversation she didn't think she was ready to have before today. But this day, things were happening today that would change her, maybe them, forever so maybe tonight was the time to lay it out there. "He was my OB/GYN."

A breath hitched in Adam's throat, "Oh. Right... Why did he call you, Kim?

He didn't sound, well, like anything. For as emotional a person as Adam Ruzek was, in this moment he had no idea how to think or feel. Kim sighed and responded, "I keep shaking him off for my follow-ups. He wants to do some tests to see if there was any long-term damage from the miscarriage, well, from the attack."

She wasn't sure if Adam realized it but as she spoke he tensed up and moved his hand from her arm to her hip, his fingertips grazing her stomach. "He thinks everything is ok. It's just something to do before I consider getting pregnant again."

His breath stopped this time. "Is that something you want, Kim? To have another baby?" He tried to look at her face but she hadn't moved from her focus on Mikayla in the next room. "I mean, you'll be the best mom, any child will be lucky to have you. I, just..." he faded off, mind whirling from the news. He wanted to ask her if she wanted to have his baby again but he was afraid of her answer.

Kim could feel his turmoil, his body still tense. "I spent so much of my pregnancy being caught up in fear and confusion and work that I barely had a chance to appreciate what was happening, I didn't let you appreciate it either." She could feel Adam's chest rise as he was about to speak but she rose up to look in his eyes and put her hand on his cheek to still his words. "I'm sorry you only got to experience what I let you in for. You should have been there for all of it, the sonogram, the heartbeat. And I'm sorry my actions ended our baby's life." She couldn't look at him for that last line, she could barely touch him, dropping her hand to her lap. They had been over this before and she knew somewhere in her mind that Adam didn't blame her but her heart would never leave her be.

And it was almost like he felt her heart break again as he placed his palm on her chest and he tipped up her chin, imploring her to look into his eyes. "You know I don't blame you, for any of it. It was unexpected and messy and tragic, but for a moment it was beautiful. You gave me piece of something I've wanted since I met you but had given up on having, thank you for giving me that moment."

His watery eyes matched her own and she reached up to wipe the stray tear that began its lonely path down his cheek, leaning in after to kiss the place where it's path stopped. She lingered for a minute before moving back to her place next to him. Reaching for his hand she intertwined their fingers and rested them in her lap. "If I can have another baby I'd love that but what I really want is a family. Adam, when I got pregnant I told you that we were meant to be a family and while everything has changed since then, that idea hasn't. Life is coming at me fast today, I might legally have a kid this time tomorrow. You asked me earlier if I was trying to replace what we lost but that is irreplaceable. Mikayla needs a family right now and I want to be that for her. I want to be her family and I'd love it if you would be part of that too, but if this is too much I ge..."

She never had a chance to finish before Adam's lips were on hers. His kiss was intense, filled with an answer he didn't need to speak but did so anyways. "Hell yes, Darlin', I am all in. You are my family and I welcome everything that's a part of it." He pulled her closer, resting her forehead against his before dipping in for another kiss, this time softer and slower. Kim responded to his touch, having an overwhelming desire to be closer to him, She rose up on her knees and began to swing her leg over his lap but instead made contact with open drawer of her coffee table and slammed it shut. Kim jerked away from Adam and swung back to glare into Mikayla's room, praying she didn't scare her.

Adam rubbed her back as his breathing slowly started to return to normal, "Geez Kim, keep it down. Soft doors, remember?"

She turned back to swat his chest, telling him to "Shut up," before collapsing next to him and resting her head on his shoulder. Her eyes didn't leave Mikayla's sleeping form, still not trusting the child was asleep. "Years ago this guy said we'd be freaking awesome together, I think he was onto something."

"Hmm" Adam agreed as he slipped his arm around her shoulder. "Man, we took a winding, ass-backward path to get here didn't we? That guy didn't know what he was getting into when he fell in love with you."

Kim smiled as she looked up. "Really? Well that Kim first fell in love with his hair. She'd be disappointed with some of the hair years that followed, but the man got more lovable with time." She ran her fingers through his hair, pushing the loose strands away from his eyes before resting her head against his chest again.

"You cut your hair short once and they never let you live it down." he mumbled into her own hair, breathing in her scent. "I love you, it's always going to be you."

Kim's heart was filled to the brim when she whispered back, "I love you too, you are it for me. And I love this journey for us."

Adam eyes widen and he lightly punched her arm, "You started watching Schitt's Creek, didn't you! We were supposed to watch it together! It's good isn't it?!"

Kim giggled and snuggled further into his hold. "It's great, only a few episodes in. I promise to not go any further without you."

Adam held up his pinky, "Promise? Pinky swear?" Kim linked their pinkys and pulled it in to kiss his hand, "Promise, we're in it together from here on out." She yawned as she dropped their hands to his leg. "I'm just going to rest my eyes for a minute. Tell me if she wakes up, even if she stirs, yeah?"

He grabbed the blanket resting on the back of the couch and draped it over her resting body. "No worries, Darlin', I've got us," as Mikayla continued her contented sleep in the next room.
