Chapter 6

"Are you kidding?" Annabeth said, and she stood with some effort. "More? Chiron, this is exactly like-"

"Hush, Annabeth. Don't scare them, they'll be able to hear you."

Annabeth didn't look very happy about it, but she quieted.

The two Lynk siblings landed in front of the Big House, along with Winston, who was still muttering about finally completing a mission.

"Chiron, I brought the Lynk children in just like you told me, I completed the mission, can I go now? I don't really enjoy this very much."

Annabeth looked at Chiron and mouthed, "I told you we couldn't train fauns to do the satyrs job"

Chiron just shook his head at her, and turned his attention back to the new demigods in front of him. "Welcome to Camp Half-Blood. What are your names?"

"I'm Jo. This is my older brother Caleb. Winston said he was bad at explaining, and he had to wait-"

"He would." Annabeth interrupted. "Look, things can be hard to take in, but one of your parents is mortal, and the other is a Greek god. We're demigods, which means your life can be dangerous, because monsters also are still around, and they don't like us. But if you train here, and work together, we can beat the odds and survive. Here, demigods can live without fear of monsters."

"So who's our parent?" Caleb asked

"It can depend. My mom is Athena, the goddess of wisdom, but your...which parent do you have?"

"We grew up with our Dad if that's what you mean." Jo piped up

"Your mom could be anyone. The only way to know is if they send a sign and claim you."

"Neat." Jo said. "Now what?"

"Now, you'll be shown around camp. I suppose I'll find someone to guide you-"

"No, Chiron, I'll do it."

"Annabeth?"

"Sure. I've been here the longest of anyone. I can take care of these two." She turned to the pure black pegasus, "Sombra, I need a ride." It trotted over to the steps, and she got onto the winged horse.

"Alright, young half-bloods, time for you to see my home."

The horse trotted along, and the two siblings followed her. She led them straight to the cabins.

"These are my own creations. I designed all of them, except the original twelve, and they're all unique to their patron god. Whoever your godly parent is, that's the cabin you'll be assigned to. Until then, you'll be staying in the Hermes cabin."

The three continued through, touring all the cabins, seeing if they could get the right feeling from one. As the passed Cabin 7, Jo halted.

"Which one is that?"

"That's Apollo. But if your mom is your godly parent-"

Jo poked her head in. "This is the right one."

As she stepped out of the doorway, a golden glow surrounded her, and as it faded, it was clear it was from a bow and quiver that had magically spawned onto her back.

"It appears I was wrong, Jo Lynk. You are a daughter of the god Apollo. Plague bringer, driver of the sun chariot, and archer."

"Cool, but...how'd you know?"

Caleb rolled his eyes. "It might be the bow that glowed gold as we arrived at this cabin?"

Jo glanced around her shoulder, and yelped. "Oh, yeah, that would do it I guess."

"Sara Lee!" Annabeth called out, and a blonde haired girl who looked very similar to Jo ran from the basketball court in the middle of the U of cabins. "This is your new sister, Jo Lynk. She and her brother just arrived. Would you please show her around your cabin, fix her with a bunk, and show her the rest of camp?"

The young girl nodded. She couldn't have been more than eleven. "Of course, Miss Annabeth!" She bounced on her feet, before grabbing Jo's hand, and dragging her toward the cabin.

Caleb gave the woman on the pegasus a confused look. "What, are you royalty around here?"

She chuckled. "I'm not one to brag, but my husband and I are pretty much the authority on demigoding. We've survived a lot together, not just through our younger years. It's an achievement to make it to our age, one that not all of our comrades-in-arms achieved with us."

She stopped for a moment, and gazed sadly into the hearth fire. "But we made it through because we trained here, together. And now, it's our goal to continue to train the next generation of demigods, and hope they can make it further than we did. This camp has been my home since I was seven. Even when I left, I always wanted to come back. I want it to be that for others."

She shook her head, as if clearing her memory. "But come on. I'll show you my old cabin. I was head counselor there for years, until I moved into the Big House."

They went a little further. "Here we are. Cabin 6. Home to my half-brothers and sisters." Caleb peaked inside, and saw several honey-haired teenagers sitting at tables littered with maps, drawing out diagrams, and reading, surrounded by copious amounts of books. If he had to guess, Annabeth must have had that trademark blonde hair and ability to lock down and study something that all her half-siblings seemed to possess.

"It's really cool, it just doesn't feel like my cabin."

She shook her head. "I suppose not. You remind me of someone my friend once described….her first quest….I wonder."

But rather than explaining herself, she simply clammed up, and moved on. "Look, here's the hearth fire…."

Caleb sighed, and went on following her, feeling more lost than ever.
