A/N: So just a little continuation of "Us" of what might have taken place in the train car and what Riley is thinking and feeling. Hopefully you like it, it just came to me when I was listening to music; love how music and art can inspire you. Anyway let me know your thoughts! Thanks!

Chapter Thirty Three: Whatever it Takes

Riley was vaguely aware of people talking behind her. After the declaration of "they're fucking with the wrong people" Rick started talking, making plans and throwing out ideas the other members of the group adding in their two cents when the time felt right. Riley hadn't moved from the spot at the train car door one hand placed on the rusted metal her forehead resting next to the crack that allowed a slight breeze to blow its way in

'protect your wife…your wife…..your wife….kill for your wife…..protect your wife…..your wife'

Daryl was listening to Rick hearing every word but his eyes were focused on his sister watching as her broken blue eyes closed and the hand that lay at her side turned into a fist. His eyes floated away from her until they rested on Maggie who stood behind Glenn silently listening to the words that her leader spoke. Maggie raised her eyes and they landed on Daryl. Daryl wasn't sure if he should tell Maggie about Beth, about Beth and Riley about any of it. He lowered his gaze bringing his thumb to his mouth and biting at the nail letting the words Rick softly spoke wash over him.

Riley heard the words her father spoke the plan he was creating, the steps that were involved, she knew she had to come back, hold it together do what was needed but regardless of the plan, the steps, the ideas Riley had her own plan, her own steps, her own ideas…..kill….kill whoever touched Beth, whoever laid one finger on her would die and die in the most painful way; Riley didn't care what the cost was…protect your wife….your wife…your wife….

Riley opened her eyes and let out a breath she unclenched her hand and brought it to her back pocket reaching inside, when the pocket came up empty she removed her hand from the rusted metal door and placed it in the other pocket when it too came up empty she swallowed hard her eyes closing once again as she remembered the moment on the road

"I'm never going to leave you again Beth; I won't let anything happen to you…I promise…"

Riley spoke softly once again getting lost in something over Beth's shoulder "I won't break that promise again" Beth glanced down as she sensed Riley holding something in her hands; she smiled at the small square piece of paper that was a tad wrinkled but was in otherwise good condition

"you still have that" Beth spoke with a small chuckle pulling the photo from Riley's hands

Riley let a small grin come to her face "hey come on now give it here" Riley voiced reaching out trying to snatch the picture back Beth smirked and quickly shoved it into her back pocket

"nah…" she spoke as she gripped Riley's hands and kissed the girl lightly on the lips "you're not gonna need a picture anymore..."

Riley opened her eyes and too a step away from the door

'you're not gonna need a picture anymore…..you're not gonna need a picture anymore'

Turning her attention to the small circle that was huddled in the middle of the car she took a step forward and watched as Carl quickly approached her, she looked at him and opened her arms, the boy stepped into her and she pulled him into her body "nothing will touch you" she mumbled giving him a slight squeeze before releasing him and walking towards her father and brother

Rick turned his attention away from the group in front of him and watched as Riley joined the small circle, she gave him a subtle nod and he returned it. He then resumed his instructions and finalization of the plan. Riley looked around at her family both new and old her eyes finding Maggie, Riley bit the inside of her cheek before she walked away from her father and over towards the girl, her friend…her sister

"Maggie" Riley softly spoke causing Maggie to turn and quickly embrace the Dixon

"God I'm so glad you're okay Riles" Maggie started. Riley knew she needed to say it now while she still had the courage, was still holding it together

Riley pulled away from the girl and looked into her green eyes "listen Maggie….Beth was with us…."

Riley watched as Maggie took a small step back a hand going to her mouth and tears starting to fill her eyes

"they….they…she's out there…."

Riley stopped as the emotion became too strong saying the words out loud hearing them fall and hang stagnant in the air was almost too much to bear

"she was with you before though…." Maggie questioned

Riley looked at her and nodded "for a bit yeah….I…I asked her to marry me right before we entered Terminus…." Riley spoke

'protect your wife….your wife….your wife…'

Despite the situation Maggie smiled; but before the oldest Greene could say anymore Riley cut in

"we'll find her…..I'll find her and I'll kill whoever touches her"

Maggie's eyes once again filled with tears as she listened to the words leave Riley's lips as she heard the threat and the determination and the honesty behind them

"I made your dad a promise, I made her a promise…."

The words Riley mumbled to Beth replaying in her head

"….and I refuse to break anymore promises"

Maggie pulled Riley into a hug knowing how it felt to think that your loved one, your spouse could be dead or dying was a feeling she wouldn't wish on anyone and the fact that Beth was within reach made the situation even worst even more heartbreaking

"she's a fighter….you taught her well" Maggie mumbled pulling away

Riley looked down and bit her lip "I don't know what I would…."

Riley looked up locking her blue eyes on those of her best friend

"stop that right now…. we'll get out of here and you'll get her back end of discussion so let's go and finish listening to your dad tell us what to do to make that happen"

With that Maggie gave Riley one last hug and walked back towards the group. Riley stared at the stop Maggie had just vacated looking down into the blackness that engulfed the back of the train car

Riley took a deep breath and pushed down the fear, the pain the sadness and turned walking over and standing beside Daryl looking up at him and giving him a quick nod before she listened to the full plan that was being mulled over. As Rick spoke he looked over at Riley and stopped for a moment

"we'll get her back…..we will find her"

Riley looked at her father and gently nodded her head adverting her eyes for a moment before Rick picked back up where he had left off.

As the discussions were finished Riley walked back over to the train car door bring her eye to the crack only seeing what looked like another rusted train, removing her eye she rested her forehead on the door once more the last words she told her wife running wild in her mind

'She returned her eyes to Beth watching as they slowly filled with tears; Riley grabbed the back of Beth's head and crashed their lips together in a hard, rough life depended on it kiss. As Riley pulled away she looked at Beth and mumbled something causing the tears to overflow even more.'

"I will figure this out…I will find you and I will save you, I love you Beth Dixon"

A/N: Did you like it...would you like one from the other side; where it's Daryl's, Rick's and Carl's thoughts on Riley being out there? Review or PM they mean a lot. Also my hope for a writing schedule is to watch the episodes on Sunday and start writing that Monday and hopefully depending on things like life have them out by that following Sunday...we'll have to wait and see though no promises!
