Final Fantasy XV - Kingdom Hearts

Part 85

Summary: Two warriors of Light, the Chosen King and Keyblade Master, face an unseen Darkness.

*Keyblade Graveyard*

Brandishing the two keys of light and darkness, Roxas cuts his way through two darkballs in the air while descending a pillar of stone. His feet run down the pillar as he slices and dices through the hordes of heartless that flew towards him.

Like a hurricane of blades, he cuts down the heartless while falling to join Axel on the ground, the pyro throwing fire around him at the horde of neo-shadows. Roxas leaps off the pillar while performing several flips with his keyblades in front of him, cleaving through the heartless as he lands behind Axel. Back to back, the former nobodies lash out against the heartless that foolishly tries to consume their hearts, while above Ventus dominates the skies with his armor and glider.

With skill and expertise, he flies around the many pillars, bridges, and through the tightest corridors of the crudely constructed mountains. The less than nimble heartless smashing into the stone while the invisibles flew after him are cut down by his magic and stylish attacks from the glider. He dives down into a canyon of stone and mountains as the flying heartless chase after him, many perished in their pursuit, and those who manage to close the gap are slain in a nano-second. Ventus rides up out of the canyon as Terra slammed an eliminator into the ground headfirst.

He turns around to see a dark thorn running towards him, bashing aside its lesser brethren while roaring at the keyblade wielder. With gritted teeth and a rough grunt, Terra runs at it while his keyblade dragged in the ground, sparks lighting up. He jumps to the heartless and punched it directly in its jaw with a bellowing roar, knocking it on its back. Terra front flips over it and when his feet touched the ground, he grabbed one of the thorns on its back with his armored hand.

With strength greater than he had ever possessed, Terra lifts the heartless off the ground and swings it around him like a flail, smashing and breaking the heartless around him. He then jumped into the air with the heartless in hand and throws it across the field straight into a mountain, crashing into it and letting the stones bury it. Terra falls back to the ground, reels on the next heartless without an ounce of mercy or restraint in his attack.

Xion hops over a large body while it body-slides towards her, shooting a burst of ice magic at the flying red nocturnes. She lands on her feet and turns around to shoot another burst of ice at the large body's exposed back, destroying it. Two lance soldiers, dragged by their weapon of choice, fly towards her with their weapons pointed at her. Xion knocks them both aside with ease, cutting both weapon and user in two strikes while she runs towards the gang of soldiers.

Each one is cut down by her keyblade with little trouble, they all fell helplessly to the girl's strength and will to win, not even their strongest versions could last more than one strike. The raven kicked one aside whilst she swung the keyblade around her, leaning back to cover all spots. Breaking through the gang of soldiers, Xion runs towards a rushing assault rider, charging towards her with its elbow. Xion aims her hand and shoots a ball of aero before her, creating a bed of wind for her to be thrown up into the air.

While upside down and aiming, she shoots a beam of light at the rider, removing it and freeing the heart. In the air, she just narrowly managed to turn herself to evade an on-coming wyvern. It tries again to claw her eyes out with its talons, but the girl flips backward to avoid it, and while above it, she grabbed the head of the beast. Xion lands on its back and plunges the keyblade into it, killing it and leaps off it before the body completely evaporates into nothing.

The girl lands nearby Terra, who throws a solid armor heartless into a charging living bone heartless, killing them both. Xion struck down a sneaking spear lizard and stabbed another shadow in its large round head, glaring at the parasol beauties that just appeared atop of a cliff. Seven in total aiming their weapons at the two, firing a gatling barrage of pink energy at them. Terra immediately grabbed her shoulder, yanking her back and punched the ground, erecting a stone wall to cover them. The sounds of lasers breaking stone rings loudly to their ears while the girl strikes down the heartless from behind them.

"They just keep coming!", Xion squeaks, blocking a zip slasher's sword. She pushes it off her and lops its head off with a yell, before saying: "How much longer can we keep this up!?". Terra lets out a grunt as the wall begins to break away, only a matter of time before the assault breaks through. "As long as Sora and the others need us to!", he replied. Terra growls as the wall finally breaks down from the attack grabbing Xion's collar and leaping into the air. In the air, he shouts a quick apology to the girl before tossing her to the beauties.

Even while yelling in shock, Xion deflects their barrages and lands on the cliff. Sprinting, she cuts down the seven beauties with steel and magic, dancing around their blasts. When she struck down the last one, she looks to Terra bringing down a destroyer (another variation of the surveillance heartless) with him. He gives Xion a nod while she pouts and glares. "You could have told me what the plan was!", she argued, "Don't toss me like that!".

"I had to! You're the lightest and only one I had on standby!", Terra argued with a sheepish smile, "Sides it worked, didn't it?". Xion flails her arms up and down, loudly shouting: "I COULD HAVE SMASHED INTO THE CLIFF! OR BEEN TURNED INTO SWISS CHEESE!". Terra scratched his neck at the girl's childish reactions before a yell from their right caught their attention. They glanced to see Axel and Roxas glaring at Terra even while they were striking down the heartless in their dance.

"DON'T TOSS XION LIKE THAT EVER AGAIN, LUG HEAD!", Roxas yells. Terra groaned while Xion smiles at him, victoriously. "Also, "LIGHTEST AMONG US!?" Are you trying to say something about me and Ven!?". Terra yells: "Ven's wearing armor, and you could afford to lose some pounds!". Roxas growls at him while stabbing a soldier in the chest, his cheeks slightly rosy from that comment while Axel snickers, keeping his eyes forward to hide his laugh. Terra chuckles and spins around to cleave a heartless in half, saying: "Least this will help him lose a few".

Xion rolls her eyes at this jest, mentally arguing Roxas had more muscle than fat. "Least Roxas has a brain AND muscle", she says innocently. Terra stumbles forward at the announcement and snaps to her with a look of insult, then saying: "You trying to say I'm an idiot?". "WELLLLL…you did trust Xehanort…", Xion says while poking her fingers together.

Roxas, hearing this, snickers for a second before he burst into laughter, giving Xion a grateful smirk while she playfully winks at him. Axel practically roars with laughter while in the skies Ventus nearly falls off his ride laughing while Terra just glares at the girl with a look on his face…and wonders how far he COULD throw her when he gets a chance.

"Thanks for that!", shouts Roxas, turning back to the heartless and resuming his attack alongside Axel. Terra grunts out in frustration as he turns around and slices a heartless in two just as Xion struck down another gargoyle trying to sneak up on her. "By the way, I think I'm winning!", Xion chirps while taking down a hammerhead. "You've killed a fraction of my kills!", Terra reminds, backhanding an invisible's head.

"Besides, I'M the one with the higher count!", Axel shouts as his chakram lops the head off six soldiers in a row, "I took down a big one earlier!".

"BIG ONES ONLY COUNT AS ONE!", Ventus shouts as he soars through the air and shoots down more of the wyverns. "Sides I think Sora's got the bigger count than all of us combined! He and Noct any took that a tornado!". "No, that was Aqua and Donald!", Axel reminds, dodging a blade and cuts down another, "What about that roller coaster? Who got the most?". "Roller coaster?", Xion asks, jumping over a large body.

"Oh yeah, Sora's got some ride summoning powers", Axel says, "Spinning teacups, a merry go round, splash ride thingy…and two ships".

"Wait? When did he learn all that!? And why can't we do that!?", Roxas questions, leaning back from a swiping blade. He chops the arm off of the armored knight and stabbed it in the chest. "I dunno! He just says he did one a while back and boom, he can summon them!", Axel replied, just as confused. "I wanna summon magical teacups too!", Xion chirps as she cuts another heartless down, "We can make amazing tea with magic!".

"Will all of you PLEASE focus on the heartless!?", shouts Mickey. The keyblade wielders look to see Mickey being swarmed by flying heartless, leaping, and dancing around their blasts while simultaneously keeping Kingdom Hearts open. Still up on the keyhole to this world, slowly being overwhelmed by the endless onslaught of the heartless, Mickey dodged as best as his restricted limbs could do while keeping his focus on the task given to him.

"Someone get up there and help Mickey!", Axel yells out, slashing a throat of an armored knight, "We've gotta keep that keyhole safe!". Terra grunts in agreement over the shout, and despite their threats, he grabbed Xion's collar, bringing the girl's attention back. "Terra-

"Go help Mickey!", he yells before he throws her to the platform, her shrieks earning the attention of her friends again. "WHAT DID WE JUST SAY!?", Roxas bellows. "Stop complaining and keep killing!", barked Terra as he slammed his armored fist into the stomach of another large body. Xion flies, screaming in fear as she overshoots the pillar and while in the air, has gained the attention of the heartless from below her.

The surveillance heartless unleashed barrages of energy at her, forcing Xion to erect a reflect barrier around her. Using the barrier as cover, she allows herself to fall to the ground without harm. Once she lands, she detonates the barrier and fires off several blasts of light magic that spread out their fire, striking the heartless all around her and removing the pests from the skies. She jogged to Mickey, now standing still and resuming his task undisturbed, though she saw his arms shake with exhaustion.

"Are you okay?", she asks kindly, holding her keyblade with both hands while looking out for more heartless. With a deep breath and panting after, Mickey shook his head. "I'm reaching the end of my rope, Xion", confesses the king of Disney Castle, "I can't even keep my arms straight". Xion glanced at him and can confirm even the master amongst them is starting to feel the weight and fatigue of these constant battles.

She could sense his magic and strength were indeed at their lowest point and only thanks to his will alone he's keeping their side open for Sora's team. Tragically for herself and even the others, they weren't going to last much longer with the pace they were going and against the never-ending army of heartless. From the moment Sora's team ventured forth to slay the old master, the guardians that remained had been throwing everything they had against the heartless.

Xion couldn't even determine just how long they had been fighting, everything was moving so quickly, and wildly they could have been fighting for twenty minutes for all she knows. Buying as much time as Sora's group needed to save them all, and sadly there would be no reprieve nor any other solution to their predicament either. Not even sealing the keyhole would have been an option as Mickey says, it would take time for them to seal it. Approximately five seconds max to seal, but all it would take for a heartless to destroy the world?

One second.

Xion looks back at the battle below them, watching the guys doing everything they could to keep most of the higher threats of the heartless as busy as they could. Xion spins to the king to offer she take over before a chain wraps around her waist and then roughly pulls her into the air. She yells out in surprise, her name cried by Mickey as she is flailed into the air, jerked around by the chain around her stomach. Xion is then yanked down off the battleground and slammed into the ground with a powerful thud.

With a groan and whimper, she rolls onto her side but is then dragged along the ground like an animal. Quickly, she summons her keyblade and after several desperate attempts, she manages to slam the keyblade on the chain, freeing herself. The girl skids to a halt and quickly scramble to her feet and groans when she feels pebbles and sand running down her back, groaning loudly at the sudden discomfort.

The attacker is an anchor raider heartless, dropping its broken chain and calls for an anchor while brandishing its saw-like cutlass. It throws its anchor at the girl as she raised her keyblade, wrapping around her weapon like a snake. It then yanked her forward while she held onto the keyblade, digging her feet into the ground to halt its attempt to pull her forward. It tries again to pull her with a more powerful yank, but as soon as it does, Xion jumps toward it and uses its pull to speed her towards it.

With a single slash, she splits its skull in half and lands behind it. As the body fades away, she smiles to herself victoriously. Only to then be punched in the stomach by a flying metal fist, emptying her lungs of air as the metal fist takes her flying through a pillar. She is then grabbed by the fist, binding her arms and rendering her helpless. She thrashes in its grip, shaking her head in pain while her feet furiously kick.

She looks up to see another metal fist hovering above, ready to crush her head like a melon. As it falls, she is saved by a speedy Ventus charging at it. He jumps off his glider, turning it back into his keyblade and with one spinning slash, slices the gauntlet into nothing. With the hovering fist gone, he front flips and swings his keyblade downwards to free Xion from the iron grip, allowing them both to fall together back to the ground. On the ground, they both spin around to see the steel boots of the guard armor flying to them.

Ventus and the former vessel spin their keyblades in their hands, take off together, and with perfect timing, slashing them in half with a single strike. As the boots fade into the darkness, they start to run on the ground as the main torso of the guard armor reveres and aims its lower half at them. Dark energy gathers up and it shoots a large ball of purple energy at them. Xion runs faster and in front of Ventus, leading the charge. With a single thrust, Xion plunges her keyblade into the ball.

She destroys it, ending the attack as Ventus dashes past her. He jumps and with a flurry of reverse gripped strikes, slices, and cuts down the body. One final strike and the armor falls to pieces as if it had rusted and broke away. He front flips and lands behind it as Xion halts herself in her speedy sprint by digging her feet into the ground, both turning to ensure Ventus struck the killing blow. As the body fades, they both release breaths of relief and exhaustion.

"You okay?", he asks, grimacing at her state after a moment's break. Xion flinches as she stands upright, then feels blood leaking down from her forehead and dripping from her brow. Her black garb looked like it was ready to join the trash, the coat was torn in several places and barely clung to her, the sleeve on her left arm was half gone while the right shoulder was ripped. It is filthy with dirt and stone, more tears around her back.

"…my coat's ruined…", she pouts, "But I'll be okay".

Ventus rolled his eyes as she unzips the coat and with reluctance, tosses it aside. Letting it fly in the wind where it will join the darkness for the last time, a sense of loss washes over the girl. Odd as it was, that jacket was a part of her, like an important memento of her past. Like Kairi's good luck charm or Sora's necklace. But as she watches it disappear, she feels a weight loosen around her heart, the days of her being an "it" was gone…

"…you're wearing a tank-top?".

Xion blinked and looked to Ventus' confused look, then down to the jet-black tank-top she wore with a pair of torn dark pants and those high heels Larxene wore. She pouts at him and folds her arms. "Tank-tops are comfy…". She then points at him with an accusing glare and says: "Besides, haven't you been wearing that for nearly twelve years? You must have stunk in those!". Ventus opened his mouth but then shuts it as a hue of pink dashes his cheeks.

It would explain why Aqua all but threw him into the shower at the tower…

Even so, his clothes were far from a pristine presentation. His armor beneath his shirt had been lost thanks to an attack from an explosive heartless, his shoulder piece hanging on just barely and there were several tears on his pants. Xion also noted the cuts on his cheek and eyebrow, plus the faded patch of red on his left stomach worried her, he may have more wounds hidden underneath his clothes.

They turn back to back just as more heartless surround them, the youngest keyblade wielders turned their worries into steely determination. "Think Sora's group is having better luck than us?", Ventus asks as he stares down a shadow. "I…really hope so", sighs Xion, "Even with everyone with him…". She feels an elbow brush against her lower back and glanced at the smiling boy who looked so much like her best friend.

"Come on! Loser buys the ice cream!", he suggests. Xion beams and nodded with enthusiasm. "Sea-Salt ice cream, here I come!", gleefully sung the girl as she leaps into the fray. With a playful laugh, Ventus turns back to the heartless and rushes in.

Lopping off a row of six heads with Oblivion, Roxas flings Oathkeeper in a saw-like toss. The weapon of light through several nightwalker heartless, bypassing Axel's back as he flings his chakrams at a winterhorn. The burning weapons reduced the heartless to nothing but melted water, flying and returning to their master in time for Roxas to stand beside him as bigger and tougher heartless began to swarm them.

Roxas spins his keyblades in his hands as Axel reverts his chakrams into his keyblade. "This…this is never gonna end…", Roxas huffs, "I think I've lost count of how many heartless I've beaten…". Axel didn't even attempt to make a joke out of his friend's claims, be they him bragging or just making a point. They had to have been fighting for hours now, or at least it felt like it to him anyway. Like his friends, he was far from perfect condition.

His jacket had long been lost thanks to himself burning his clothes to ward off some touchy and clingy heartless, now wearing a tank top with a "bomb" monster on his back, pants torn around the knees. Several cuts and nicks on his arms and a bad bash on the left of his skull with dried and dirtied blood. Roxas seemed to be the only one with his coat still, though its left sleeve was gone from shoulder to wrist, the right side of his coat in tatters.

Dried blood on his back leaked from a slash along with his leg coating in dried dark blood. "And Sora's probably fought off thousands more…jeez…", chuckles Roxas, "Kinda wish we had our back-up". He glanced at a smirking Axel, who raised his unarmed hand and says: "Well… *I* do". With a snap of his fingers, five nobody assassins dropped from the grey portals and slay the leaping heartless. Roxas looks at their new allies, completely forgetting that Axel did control them in the past.

"Alrighty boys, do what you do best!", commands Axel. His assassins dash into the horde of heartless surrounding the two best friends while their master struck down another heartless. Roxas watches the nobodies perform their tasks, their superior skills, power, and simply better teamwork (and by better, he means actual teamwork), a weight of despair lifted off his shoulders. Yet before he re-join them in the fray, he looked at his keyblades and remembers…

Just when several neo-shadows lunge at him, they went still. Suddenly lines ran down from their heads to their legs and they split in half. Surrounding Roxas from appearing out of nowhere, the samurai nobodies appeared to guard their master like dutiful samurai serving their shogun. Roxas nods to his loyal guards and says: "Show these guys what you're all made off!". The six samurai nod to their master's command and begun their slaughtering of the heartless while the boy takes to the skies.

Grabbing a hammer frame's legs, Terra begins to play a brutal game of "whack-a-heartless", slamming and smashing the shadows that attempted to swarm him. He then jumped into the air towards a dark follower and brought down the hammer right on top of its head. Smashing through the heartless like it was nothing but paste, killing it and the hammer frame. Terra runs across the battlefield, slicing and crushing the heartless ferociously as he reaches Ventus and Xion.

He punches a darkball in the face, obliterating it and when he lands on the ground, he rolls forward and launches an uppercut right into the invisible's chin, knocking it in the air. He stands by Xion and Ventus, still surrounded by the heartless that were growing in number by the second. Terra growls in anger and frustration, feeling the pain that the heartless inflicted on his body starting to take its toll on him. But with gritted teeth, he grabbed his keyblade with both hands and stares down the horde.

He swore he would make things right, and if that meant killing every single one of the heartless until Aqua saves the world, then so be it.

Xion glances at Roxas and Axel, gasping in surprise when she sees the nobodies fighting along with them. "Huh? Oh right! They can summon nobodies too!", she comments happily. The two apprentices of Eraqus glanced and Ventus hummed: "Good thing Axel remembered…". Then he pauses and looks to Xion. "Wait, don't you have anything like that?". Xion opens her mouth before she grins widely and snaps her fingers.

"OH! I do have something up my sleeve!", she chirps happily, then frowns and looks at her bare arms and says: "Err…I mean, metaphorically…". Terra holds back a morning star's charging, swings his keyblade up to throw it upward. He then stabbed his keyblade into the ground and jumps after the large metal heartless, grabbing it. He roars and throws the heartless into the swarm of heartless like throwing a meteor. It crushes several minions of the darkness, granting them somewhat of a reprieve.

Landing back on his feet and plucking his keyblade from the ground, Terra stares down the heartless and says: "At this point, you can summon a giant dog that eats the heartless for all we care!". Ventus grunts in agreement, saying: "Go ahead, Xion!". Xion nods, grips the keyblade with both hands, and holds it up high. A green ring circle around her feet as magic and light shines from her heart, slowly enveloping the keyblade.

"I'm counting on you, help us out!", cries Xion.

Glyphs of magic appear in the air, a ball of light in the middle. Xion spins her keyblade and shoots a blue beam at it. When they connected, a pillar of light shined from it and into the darkened clouds. A flash of light booms above, and then something large falls from the sky. "Xion…what exactly are you summoning?", Terra asks, regretting his words. "…something big", she says innocent yet cryptically. When the large ball falls upon the heartless, it shook the ground and a shockwave erupts.

The light fades and sitting there in the middle of the heartless was…a chocobo.

A very…VERY fat chocobo.

Sitting there amidst the heartless horde, an extremely large obese, and fluffy chocobo sat, letting a low "kweh" like it was a yawn. Terra and Ventus stare at it, then slowly turned to Xion. "…tada!", she exclaims. The two glanced at the bird, then back to Xion, then the bird again before they turn their heads back to her. "W-Why…WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO SUMMON THAT!?", Terra shouts, baffled beyond comprehension. "Oh!", squeaks the girl as she reaches into her pocket and pulls out a summoning charm. "I found this earlier when we were trying to catch up to Prompto and just held on to it!".

"You couldn't have found something, I dunno, helpful?", Ventus groans. "It IS helpful! It's big and fluffy!", argues Xion. "What's your plan, you're hoping the bird will kill with cuteness!?". "Cuteness can kill people!?", exclaims Xion in horror, then her face turns to confusion. "Then…how come Sora never died around Kairi?".

Their little argument was cut short when the giant bird rolls through the heartless like a bowling ball, crushing and knocking aside the minions of the darkness. Despite the humongous size, it had little trouble using its small wings to lift itself off the ground, and then drop itself on top of them, crushing the heartless. Shockwaves strong enough to obliterate the shadows with each drop, its feather body kept all the attacks from the heartless at bay like it was made of steel.

It flaps its wings, magical swirling tendrils circle it before they all flew up into the air and touch the five guardians. Instantaneously the gang could feel the pain from the heartless leave their bodies and a burst of energy rushing through them. Terra clenched his fist and looks to the younger keyblade wielders. He sternly nods and rushes back into the fray, seeing several darksides rising from below, while the other two quickly scale the top of the mountain where the keyhole laid in wait.

Reaching the top, they both joined Mickey's side and together aimed their keys. Firing two beams at Kingdom Hearts, they hold it in place. Mickey looks at the two, surprised but any questions that he had died when he sees the look in their eyes. One final look to the sealed keyhole, Mickey nods to them and turns the sky full of invisibles and dark balls, keyblade glowing in the light. Immediately the heartless swoop in to attack, but fire and light weapons fly and cleave through them.

Axel and Roxas appeared in the middle of the sky horde, fire, light, and darkness working together to bring down as many as they could in one fell swoop. While they slaughtered as many as they could, some heartless that manages to get past them went for the keyhole, but the master is already on the case. His unmatched acrobatic skills quickly reminded these creatures why he was worthy of being called the master, slaying them with single strokes of his keyblade and decimating their numbers with magic only Aqua could rival.

They just needed that one moment, that one heartless to break the barrier. And whether it is luck, fate, or perhaps destiny, a single shadow had managed to sneak past all four guardians. Once its foot touched the barrier, it breaks apart like fragile glass and exposes the heart of the world for the dark beings to feast upon. The shadow's greatest feat is short-lived, however, as Terra leaped from below and crushes it with a single swing.

"Mickey!", he roars.

Mickey spins in the air and aims his keyblade as the invisible horde tries to ambush him. Axel and Roxas appear by his sides, the pyro aiming his keyblade and fires a hurricane of flames from the tip of his keyblade, engulfing the heartless while Roxas crosses his arms and them opens them up as his shines with light. Bluish white tendrils rocket from his body and strike down the invisibles. Mickey fires a single blue beam at the keyhole, yelling for Xion and Ventus to get off the ground.

At once the two jumped in the air, keyblades still holding Kingdom Hearts in place. Mickey's light stabbed into the keyhole, creating a brilliant flash of light from it. Like a rising sun, the light pierces the darkness and covers the world, making all those near cover their eyes from the holy light.

Then…a loud locking sound resonates throughout the battlefield.

When the light no longer blinded them all, the five guardians were standing upon a plain and empty battleground, looking around to see the world had finally returned to what it was before being on the brink of annihilation. The guardians look around, unable to believe the world was back to normal, not a heartless or even a trace of that oppressing darkness around. "D-Did it work?", Axel asks, "Or did we die?".

"Feel pretty alive right about now…", Terra huffs, laying his keyblade on his shoulders, "But…I think we're safe for now…". Mickey nods as the Xion sighs in relief. "Whew…huh? Umm…Mickey?", she says, eyeing the strange light that Kingdom Hearts was emitting. Before anyone could answer, suddenly the five were swallowed by the light…

*Scala ad Caelum*

His Armiger holding back the golden weapons carried by the man who had taken so much, Noctis holds their foe back while Sora soars past the barricade of weapons. With Ultima and Royal Key, Sora slashes his way through the magic ray of darkness with ease, reaching Xehanort. The old man and the boy dual in the skies with the X-Blade and keyblades going after each other with every fiber of their power going into each strike. Sora held back one swing from the X-Blade, then slashes Xehanort's chest with his free keyblade.

Xehanort growls in pain before he kicked Sora aside, throwing the X-Blade at him as Sora flies. Noctis telepathically calls for Shield of the Just to appear in front of the flying blade, stopping it from closing in on Sora. Even against the most powerful key, the mighty shield fulfills its purpose to shield the ones the king held dear, allowing Sora to backflip and land his feet on the wall of the building, then propel himself back at Xehanort.

The master recalls the blade of destiny and fires three dark fireballs at Noctis before firing a chilling ray of ice at Sora. The king of light phases through three of the balls and then warps towards the old man. Sora calls three keyblades to act as a wall in front of him, blocking the ray of ice and pushes through it even as it coats his weapons in frost. Sora reaches Xehanort by using the keyblade wall to charge forth, halting the attack as he and Noctis both strike at the old man together.

Flashes of light and darkness sparking around them all, darkness fighting back against the light as even Xehanort is starting to be overwhelmed by the two who defied their fates too many times. Xehanort managed to strike Sora with a downward swing of the X-Blade, knocking him back to the ground and with lighting in his free hand, slams his palm into Noctis' chest. Bathed in golden lightning, even as agonizing as it is, Noctis snarls and calls for Star of the Rogue to appear behind the old man and spin toward him.

Sensing the danger, Xehanort teleports from the king as the spinning weapon reached the king. Noctis flips in the air, catching the weapon mid-flip, and then when he stands upright in the air, he throws it at the elevated old man. This time Xehanort forces himself to strike the weapon with fury, landing the blade between the two extended blades. Noctis then warps back up to him with Night's Sky in hand and with a thrust, pierced the old man's shoulder.

Xehanort snarls in pain, using darkness to blast Noctis aside and grant himself some space. As the king falls to the ground on his feet, Sora is already leaping to resume his fight with the master. Xehanort then performs a Form change with the X-Blade, turning it into a large double blade. Sora faces him with both keys in hand regardless of Xehanort's new weapon and having more reach and taking more space.

He thrusts the blade into Sora, the boy narrowly spins around it and smashes his elbow into the old man's face, making him lean backward. Sora swung both keyblade down upon his body and finally slammed the old man back to the plaza floor. Sora dashes down to stab him, only for Xehanort to change his weapon again into chakrams, much larger than Axel's. He flings them both and they struck Sora, blowing him into the air even higher for a moment before he falls on his back on the plaza. Sora stumbles back to his feet but he slouches and stumbles, stunned.

Xehanort callously smirks and with a snap of his fingers, two glyph cannons appeared in the air and trained them on the boy. They fired a spread shot beams of light at him, cutting off any escape he could have taken were he not dazed. Noctis warps in front of him and with Bow of the Clever in hand, he shoots several bolts of light against the beams. Colliding with them disrupts them and shatters the attack, sparing the two. He turns to Sora shaking his head and glaring where Xehanort was but sees only a keyhole.

The old master appears before the king of light and throws the X-Blade at him. Noctis almost swipes it aside, but the moment his keyblade meets the misguided weapon, he is suddenly encased in ice, freezing him solid. Then all around him, fireballs appeared and charged, Sora quickly calls his keyblades, Queen of Storms, Liberating Flame, and Braveheart. The three keyblades pierced the fireballs and spared the king, Sora placing a hand on his frozen shoulder and using fire magic to melt the ice from his body.

Free of his icy prison, Noctis shivers, and gasps. He shook his head as suddenly a circle of whitish-blue lightning surrounds the two boys, both dashing out of the ring quickly. But they weren't out of the fire zone yet, as more glyph cannons appeared in the air. All six of them fired spread shots of light at the boys, only thanks to Sora's keyblades protecting him while he dodges and Noctis warp-phasing through them were they able to dodge this ruthless and merciless attack.

Sora rolls under the beams just as Xehanort reappears from another keyhole, swinging the X-Blade and fires a globe with blades around it at him. Sora swings Royal Key and splits the globe in half, one step is taken, and a twirl and he slammed Ultima into Xehanort's chest. Xehanort is knocked back but goes through another keyhole and then reappears behind Sora with the same attack. Only this time Noctis crushes it with the Sword of the Tall. He front flips with the blade slammed on the ground and throws it at the old man during a flip.

The giant sword misses Xehanort as he disappears through another keyhole.

He reappears above them, arms out. "Come, Kingdom Hearts!", he cries, aiming the X-Blade to the sky. A blue beam of light fires from the legendary weapon into the dark clouds. The sickening colored clouds spread apart and reveal the yellow moon of Kingdom Hearts, looming over the plaza and ruined city. "You've gotta be kidding…", Noctis growls, "How the hell did he bring this here?". "Don't know…but maybe we can beat an answer out of him!", suggest Sora.

Magic circles appear beneath the two keyblade wielders, surprising them and they rose into the air. Now in the sky, Xehanort fires a shower of dark fire upon them. Noctis takes up his challenge and with all his Armiger, he roars as he throws them all at him. The weapons of light decimated the fireballs as they charged towards the seeker of darkness, forcing Xehanort to fire a storm of blizzard magic at them.

The ethereal weapons however were unaffected by even Xehanort's magic, bypassing the spell. Xehanort growls as he starts to swing the X-Blade at them, knocking every one of them aside and almost broke a few in the process. He then stares at the boys, seeing Sora already flying towards him with all the keyblades of those who are closest to him, rotating around him. He yells in anger as he fires all the keyblades at the old man, like guiding missiles of light.

Xehanort rises a barrier to protect himself, but once more he underestimates the bonds connecting to Sora, the keyblades of the students of his best friend pierce his barrier, the keys of the nobodies strike the X-Blade to hold it back, and then the other key of the mouse king shines so bright it blinded him. When he re-opens them, Sora slammed Destiny's Embrace onto his shoulder, spins and smashes Brave Heart into his side, and blasted him aside.

In the air, Xehanort sees Sora dashing to him with Royal Key and Ultima in his hands, reaches him and unleashes a barrage of attacks upon him. Like the beat down he had given his nobody in the past, just fuelled with greater anger and determination than ever before. Sora then thrusts both keys into his greatest nemesis' stomach and sends him into the air further away from the two, and then yells for Noctis' aid.

The king of light aims his Ultima Blade at Xehanort and grunts, commanding all his royal arms to fall from the skies above and plunge into Xehanort like a thousand arrows. The divine weapons of the royal family stab and pierce the old man, and when the Sword of the Father pierced him, Noctis warps above the old man with his royal arms and dives down with it. He strikes Xehanort with all his strength, cutting into him as he descends.

Blood erupts from Xehanort's torso, he gasps blood in tow. Noctis warps back to the ground as Sora falls by his side, both keeping their eyes on the old man. The old man is hovering in the air, weakening and judging on his ragged breathing and hisses, Noctis smugly thinks the old man is finally on death's doorstep. But when he thought it was over, Xehanort smirked wickedly. He holds up his right hand, letting the X-Blade spin in the air his palm.

It is thrown into the air, rays of light come down onto the arena like a cage, entrapping them all. But that wasn't all, the light is then sucked out from Sora's body. Spheres of golden light begin to leave his body as he slumps, making Noctis scream his name in fear. Sora's body goes dark, then he suddenly jerks up into a stance as he is reverted to his Rage-Form. He hisses and snarls at Xehanort's cocky grin, turning to Noctis.

But Noctis' light doesn't leave him, his body glows in the blue light instead of the golden light. Not even Xehanort was able to keep the shocked look from appearing on his face when he witnessed only one of them had become a darkling. Smugly, Noctis aims his sword and growls: "What part of King of Light didn't you understand?".

This declaration distracted the old man long enough for Sora to close the gap between them as his clawed hand grabbed the old man's shoulder, startling him. With a snarl, Sora flips over the old man and slammed him into the ground with a slam so powerful even the magic circle crackled and fizzled like it almost was destroyed from sheer force of power. Sora wails on the old man with his darkened keyblade, spheres of light escaping the man with each hit.

Noctis joins in once Sora knocks aside the old man, taking over the long-awaited beatings the old man had long deserved. With each slash of the keyblade and sword, light spheres poured out of the old man like it was his blood, all of them going back to where they belonged. Noctis strikes Xehanort with every ounce of his power to knock him back into the air, just as Sora could feel his light replenish within his heart.

Sora flips backward in the air before he dashes through Xehanort several times, leaving trails of red darkness with each hit until he appears in the air him and Noctis. Tendrils of darkness escape him as he hovers in the air, then with a beastly roar, Sora dives down with keyblade guiding the way as he plunges it into Xehanort. They both slam into the center of the magic circle cracks spreading throughout the circle until it shatters into nothing.

All three wielders of the keyblade fall back down to the plaza, except Xehanort uses the last ounce of his magic to levitate in the air and likely to give himself space from the two. Both guardians of light stagger and stumble on the ground, suddenly the Armiger vanished from Noctis' form and Sora is back to his normal form, almost falling to his knees. But the boy uses the very last ounces of his strength to lift his keyblade and aim it back at the old man.

With the last of his strength, Sora fires the beam of light that seals the keyhole of so many worlds he's saved at the old man. But to their horror, before it even touched Xehanort the beam is destroyed by an invisible force. Both boys gasped in horror, none had ever stopped the attack before, and as powerful as Xehanort is even in his state he shouldn't have been able to stop Sora. With his signature grin, Xehanort raises the X-Blade and boldly proclaims: "It ends here and now".

Kingdom Hearts is enveloped in darkness, Xehanort's body glows in its shadow before he fires his beam of light at Sora. Sora raises his keyblade to defend himself, too weakened to run. Once the beam connects to his key, Sora struggles with every fiber of his weakened and weary being to stand against this attack, but in the end…he failed. His guard is broken, and the beam strikes him, earning a yell from the boy.

A sudden sensation washes over him, a sense of him floating on nothing and he feels himself getting further and further away from the realm. He could hear the weakening beat of his heart slowly grow duller and lower with each beat, was he, going to die? Maybe…maybe it was his fate to die against Xehanort's hand.

"…ra…So…Sora!".

He stirs in his nearly complete slumber, eyes fluttering weakly to open as the voice calls his name desperately. Clearer and clearer with each call of his name, but the voice started to grow in numbers too. He could hear them all, voices of those who believe in him, voices of those who stood by him.

"Sora!".

"SORA!".

"SORA!".

He finally opens his eyes to see several lights of color twirl in the darkness above him, like they were guiding him back. They all fluttered and dive into his heart.

When his senses return, he finds himself standing against the ray of light. With resolve, Sora stomps his feet into the plaza ground and holds his ground, gritting his teeth as he pushes back against the beam. A sudden lift of weight leaves him, and when he glanced to his left he sees Noctis holding beam back with his keyblade with determination in his eyes. He glanced at the younger boy with a smirk, and says: "We're not done yet, are we?".

"Not until we walk tall!", Sora says with confidence. The two guardians stand together as they pushed forward, the beam slowly weakening in force. Xehanort sees this and barks: "You will fall here, IT IS YOUR FATE TO DIE BY MY HAND!". With the final piece of his magic, Xehanort uses his left hand to summon balls of dark fire and rains them down upon the two defying children of light.

"SORA/NOCT!".

The balls of darkness were suddenly struck with by opposing magic from behind the two, while a large boulder is thrown at the rest. The two looked back to see an extremely worn out Donald carried by Ignis, both hands aimed at the air with faint glowing magic around their hands. The on the right is Goofy and Gladiolus, the shield lifting another broken bit of a building and chucks it at the other raining fire with Goofy throw stone like he was throwing snowballs.

Gunshots ring out in the air, and when they turned to Noctis' side, they spot Prompto atop of a building with his gatling arm firing without end, him shouting at the old man. Riku suddenly jumps from the building with a bellowing roar, shooting his barrage of darkness at the old man. Xehanort foolishly uses his magic to shield himself from the younger master's attack, which finally drained him of all his magic at long last.

The on Sora's side, a weary and even sickly Aqua, still cursed with grey hair, shoots her beam of light from the keyblade at Xehanort. While it didn't finish him off, it was enough to weaken him for the boys to gain some leverage. After, she slumps against the wall, but then shouts: "KAIRI!".

Behind the boys, hovering in the air with light shining around her weakened form, Kairi aims her hands at the two chosen heroes and fires her light into them. They could feel the power coursing through them, newfound power they had been so desperate for. Kairi gives Sora a loving smile and says: "Do it!".

Sora and Noctis grinned at her before turning back to Xehanort. With cries, they break through his beam of light, then together aimed their keys at him. Sora's crown appears beneath their feet as the light from all their friends here shines with tendrils leaping from their forms onto the boys. They fired a beam combined of the ten lights, so bright and pure it was as if Kingdom Hearts itself was fighting against Xehanort's dark power. The struggle of light and darkness begins to weigh on the light's favor, slowly pushing back the old man's dark power.

"YOU'RE FINISHED!", both boys cried out as the beam destroys the false beam of light. Their joint attack pierces Xehanort's body, throwing him back and breaking his guard.

It was finally over.

Xehanort falls onto the plaza with a thud, struggling to get back up as Sora and Noctis fall to their knees, exhausted and weary as their friends rush their sides. Even as weary and practically near dead as they all were in comparison to one another, they all checked on the two heroes first and foremost. Sora weakly raises his gaze to a still pale and close to collapsing Kairi, who gives him a smile of exhaustion neither knew she could do, but the relief in her eyes just filled him with joy.

He gives her a small and weak smile as she envelops him in a soft hug, too weak to express herself while Noctis is lifted to his feet by a bloodied and weakened Gladiolus. "Why…how…". They all turned their gaze to Xehanort, slowly getting to his knees. "Oh come on…why won't this bastard just die already?", Noctis groaned weakly as he is pulled back. Ignis and Donald stepping in front of him while Kairi helps Sora to his feet.

"It's over now! You lost!", Sora declares.

Xehanort however, just smirks at him with a low laugh. "No…you are too late", he claims. Their answer to the question comes when they all looked at Kingdom Hearts. The yellow moon was now emitting an ominous orange-red aura like it was about to explode. "Blue, is he telling the truth here…?", Gladiolus grunts out. "I don't know…", confessed the woman, unable to tear her gaze away from the moon. Riku turns his eyes onto Xehanort and says: "What's going to happen!?".

"A purge…The World will be returned to whence it started", explains Xehanort as he stands up. "Purge? You mean, all worlds will be destroyed!?", Prompto questions in shock. "The world began in darkness. And from that darkness came light. From the light came people, and from the people had hearts", explains Xehanort. "Evil burgeoned in those hearts, begetting more darkness. Spreading across the World like a plague. The light, the very symbol of the World's hope, was devoured by shadow".

"Leaving nothing but ruin…an utter failure". Xehanort shakes his head as the wounds began to weigh on his body. "But the first light…the light from Kingdom Hearts can give us a fresh start. An empty world, pure and bright". The guardians mulled over the words spoken by the master before them, each one taking into account the actions he did and the reasons behind it. Memories of their greatest enemies, the evils that were born from the darkness of people's hearts.

"That wasn't your call to make", Noctis grunts out.

Xehanort, insulted by the know-nothing boy's words, gains a sudden boost of energy and grabbed the X-Blade, stabs it into the ground, and uses it to help him stand up properly. "Then whose was it!?", he challenges. No guardian spoke up, all eyes staring down the old man while he stood up and looks ready to fight again. "The World needs someone to stand up and lead", he bragged, "Someone strong to stop the weak from polluting the World with their endless darkness".

"Someone to dictate their destiny".

"If so…you're not that person, Xehanort", Sora says honestly. "Not after the methods you used to reach this goal…all the people you hurt, the worlds you destroyed, the amount of darkness you made". "And if the weak are polluting the worlds, then what about the strong destroying it?", adds Noctis, "Ardyn…you…and the other people with evil in their hearts?".

Noctis steps forth with Sora. "A real leader knows that even destiny is beyond his control…and accepts that", Sora says. Noctis nodded with him even as Xehanort looks to the king, and asks, "And you, Noctis? Does a king have no sway over his destiny or those around him?", he challenges. "…maybe…maybe I was supposed to fulfill the prophecy of my family line and die…or maybe it was never my destiny…maybe I wasn't meant to be a keyblade wielder…or even know about other worlds…", he says.

"But what I know is this: be you king, a master, or even the wielder of the X-Blade, you can never control destiny".

The master of darkness stares at the boys, not seeing any traces of doubt in their beliefs, fears of the unknown to their hearts. Strangely…they reminded him of an old friend.

"Sora, Noct, look!", exclaims Goofy. All eyes turn back to Kingdom Hearts and their surprise, the surface breaks away. Revealing a dark reddish glyph with several beams of light shining down to the plaza. Slowly and surely, the light reveals the six other guardians joining the ten, each of them showing their share of battle. "Oh heya, good to see you guys show up AFTER the boss fight!", Prompto teases with a reliving smile.

"Figured we'd let you guys get a head start before we save your asses", Axel taunts with a smirk. Mickey frowns with worry at the state of the ten, Ventus and Terra immediately running to Aqua and held her, panicking over her hair and looks while Axel fusses over Kairi. "Holy crap, what the hell happened to you guys?", questions the pyro. Kairi giggled weakly and shrugged. "How did you guys manage to get over here?", she asked.

"Kingdom Hearts was closing on the other side…I guess we just managed to follow our hearts to you guys", Roxas theorizes. Terra then fixed his gaze to the old man, and without a word approaches him. Aqua sees this and almost lunges for him, catching Gladiolus' attention and without another word, he grabbed Terra's forearm. The two men stared at each other, but in the younger man's eyes, something convinced Gladiolus to relinquish his grip and allow him to do whatever he needed to do.

"…don't get possessed again, ya hear me?", he commands. "Never again", promised Terra. He steps forward to Xehanort. Even after everything he had put his friends through, all the pain and loss, it wasn't for him. No, whatever he had for the old had died a long time ago, somebody else had a message for him. As Xehanort awaits Terra to speak, the younger man says: "There is more to light than meets the eye".

"As I told you".

Xehanort's eyes widened with a spark in his memory, only one person had ever said that to him. "You sly fox…", he comments as a smile appeared. Terra's body glows in the light, slowly a heart leaves his chest and then materializing in the light is none other than the man who had taken himself and his siblings in as children of his own…Master Eraqus. Gasps escaped the group, more so from his students while Prompto almost yells out "ghost".

"Now hand over the X-Blade, Xehanort", spoke both Eraqus and Terra. Yet even against the odds stacked, Xehanort vehemently rejects the command. "It is too late!", argues the old man. "For us, perhaps…but not for them", spoke Eraqus, turning to Sora and Noctis. But Xehanort raises the X-Blade against Eraqus, defiant. "No…I can do this!", Xehanort says. Eraqus shows neither anger nor even resentment to his friend's stubbornness.

He only shows sorrow and sympathy.

Eraqus steps forth and gently lays his hand on the X-Blade, lowering it despite the old man's defiance. Then he placed his other hand on his shoulder and says: "Enough".

"Checkmate".

Xehanort recalls the day he indeed heard those words from his old friend. A game, a battle between light and darkness, one where he learned the even the light had many tricks up its sleeves. Where perhaps, there is more to it than just its delicate balance against the darkness. Looking at X-Blade, and accepting that perhaps, it was not he who would decide the world's destiny. Maybe it is time for the next generation to finally take up the mantle.

And it would seem fate had chosen…the right one.

He approaches Sora, some held their breaths, some readied to rip the man's head off if he so much as touches him, while Sora stood before him. With reluctance and even a hint of shame, Xehanort holds the X-Blade towards Sora. "Very well done", he praises. Surprise takes the boy's face as he looks to the legendary weapon, as if unable to believe he would be the one to wield it.

While this was happening, Eraqus turns to the three students…three children under his care looking at him with emotions he wished he never inflicted upon them. Sorrow, loss, and pain. "Terra, Aqua, Ven. Forgive your foolish teacher", he pleaded softly and weakly, shame coating his words. Even with his shortcomings, even if he was part of the cracks in their bond, both Aqua and Ventus run to him, crying "master" with tears in their eyes, and embraced him.

Not even Terra could hold his tears back as he hugged his father. "Ven…I put you through such a harrowing experience…Aqua, I left you with such a heavy burden", he says with sorrow in his voice as his children cried into him. "Terra…look after them for me", pleads the master as he looks to his eldest son. Terra nods firmly, but then gestures Noctis and Gladiolus, and says: "I think…you should say hi".

Noctis and Gladiolus approached the ghost man, the shield considering this was Aqua's father while his king sheepishly smiles. "Noct…your father would have been so proud of you", he promises, "You've become a far greater king than he ever dreamed…and more". Noctis hisses a hiccup, somehow the words touching his heart more gently than he ever thought of as tears sting his eyes. "Eraqus…thanks…thanks for, everything", says Noctis.

With a nod, he smiles at the king before turning to Gladiolus. "…look after my daughter, son of Clarus", he asks. Gladiolus nods and with a glance to Aqua, proudly says: "You should be proud of her. Not gonna find a better master than her". Aqua blushes softly before Eraqus chuckles softly in agreement. The final goodbyes that were long overdue were completed, as Xehanort's body finally gives away to the pain, he is held by Eraqus.

"Time to go", he says. With a roll of his eyes and a smirk, Xehanort nodded to him. Together they shined with the light of Kingdom Hearts and finally are levitated into the air. For a moment, they were reverted to their teens before they become nothing than hearts returning to the place where all hearts are born from.

Finally, with everyone looking at the one who was destined to open the door, Sora lifts the X-Blade and aims it Kingdom Hearts to close it at long last. Performing his task, Sora fires a beam of light at the sacred moon and upon impact, a wonderous burst of light explodes from the moon. The dark clouds that gathered around it all fade away as the world long forgotten is bathed in light for the final time, the guardians are all engulfed in its purity…

*?*

Standing there in the crossroads of destiny, the sixteen guardians of light all stood. No heartless, no nobodies, vessels, or any other being from Xehanort's organization. Even the wind from this old ruined world breezed past them softly and even comforting them, a great burden had finally left their shoulders and hearts at long last.

"It's…over", Mickey says, "We…we did it".

There were relieved smiles and accepting grins, but Sora and Noctis still shared the same expression. "No…not yet", Sora says. All smiles vanished when they remembered the two who had given their lives, the ones who sacrificed themselves to give them a fighting chance to save the world. "…let's go back to Yen Sid. Perhaps there we can start looking for Luna and Naminé", suggested Ignis. "No need…we know what we gotta do", Noctis dismisses.

"Noct…", Prompto starts as both Noctis and Sora face the others. "…my journey started when I had to meet up with her after our separation…and it's going to end with her by my side", Noctis says warmly. "Naminé has been left alone for way too long now…and I'm not going to end this journey until we're all back home" Sora adds.

"Then…we're coming too", Kairi offers. But for the second time since his whole journey began, Sora refuses her. "Thanks…but this is something we have to go at alone", Sora says. "Sora…the power of waking is meant to go chasing hearts…", Aqua reminds softly, "If you two go down this road…there is a chance you may never find your way back home". Noctis and Sora looked at each other before they both smiled and back to the others.

"The four of us will be back before you know it. I mean, we were taught by the best, right?", Sora assures. Aqua looks to them both, before ultimately sighing and shakes her head. She smiles at them and nodded. Mickey opens his mouth to stop them, but Riku places a hand on Mickey's shoulder, hushing his fears. "You know those two won't listen…", he reminds. Mickey once more tries to argue, but sighed, accepting it.

The royal trio turned to their king, who gives them a wink and a thumbs up. "I'll be home later…promise". Gladiolus scoffs with a smirk, Ignis nods with a smile, and Prompto wipes a tear from his eye with a watery smile. "You better…otherwise I'll find show off the worst photos of you to everyone we know!", threatens Prompto.

Noctis nodded as Kairi stands before Sora. Even if he is going for a good reason and with all the confidence in their hearts he'd be back, somehow a horrible sense told her this may be the final time she'll see him. Her heart yearned for him to stay, to not go away again. She couldn't be selfish, however, not if it meant never seeing Lunafreya or Naminé again. Sora pulls her into a hug, one tight and loving as if the moment either let's go, they will disappear.

Smothering her face into his chest, tears staining his shirt as he held her close while carefully to not irritate her scar. "I'm sorry I have to go…", he whispers, so only her ears would hear it. "I wish I could go with you…I…I don't want to see you go forever…", she whimpered. In her condition, both physically and magically, she would be more of a nuisance than a valuable aid to him at this moment. Sora cups her chin to get her to look at him and warmly and lovingly says: "No matter where one of us goes, or what we see…we'll always come back together…right?".

Kairi giggles, remembering those fears were once her own. She nods and kisses him. Her fears will melt away in time, she knew deep in her heart Sora will return to her, to them. After all, home is where the heart is.

With farewells bid and promises made, the two heroes go on one more journey to find two missing hearts…

Sora and Noctis' journey…was far from over.

Question for writers: how do you find your writing when it comes to fighting in series like Kingdom Hearts? I say they're the most fun because you have a lot of creative freedom.

Big thanks to Jikker Jack for the fat chocobo idea, it was random…but it had to be done.

I wanna say a massive thank you to everyone who stuck through the ludicrous amount of fights we've been having and I'm extremely grateful for the support, I know the fights were starting to wear out their welcome and even I was sick of them. So thanks again.

As always, thanks for reading! Stay awesome but more importantly stay safe!
