Yep. I'm doing another version, but this time, Ratigan takes Fidget's own words against him.
Blackclaw, the pet raven of Ratigan not only heard hurtful words from Basil, but also from Fidget. The first thing Blackclaw saw was Fidget attacking the toymaker and taking him away from his daughter. Next, the raven witnessed Fidget kidnap the little girl in the toy store and taunted Basil and Dawson. Then, as Fidget imprisoned Olivia in a bottle, he mocked her. "I could get Fidget fired," Blackclaw said to himself and flew off to his master.
…
The raven flapped his wings and cawed and the professor immediately stopped his work. "What can I do for you, Blackclaw?" Ratigan asked.
"Professor Ratigan, I heard Fidget say mean things to the toymaker, detective, doctor, and the toymaker's daughter," replied Blackclaw.
"Hmm...bring him to me," Ratigan instructed him.
"Yes, sir." Blackclaw dashed over to find Fidget, who was lying on the cobblestone ground after his ordeal with Felicia. "Pst, Fidget."
"What?" asked Fidget.
"The boss wants to talk to you," answered Blackclaw. Like Ratigan, he didn't care if Fidget was injured. Blackclaw took the bat over to Ratigan.
…
"Thank you, Blackclaw," Ratigan told his raven.
"It was a pleasure, Professor," Blackclaw said and to Fidget, he taunted, "Ha, ha, Fidget!" The bat snarled at him.
"Blackclaw, don't be rude," Ratigan said, pretending to scold his raven, but Fidget knew the rat was taking Blackclaw's side.
Blackclaw smiled maliciously knowing Ratigan was feigning sympathy for Fidget. "I'll leave you two alone," said Blackclaw as he flew away.
"Now, Fidget, from what I've heard from Blackclaw, you said rude things to Basil of Baker Street, his new partner, the child, and her father," Ratigan said in a slightly stern tone.
"I was doing what you asked!" Fidget fumed.
"Well, who am I going to believe? YOU or my precious Blackclaw?"
Fidget crossed his arms. "Ugh! You always take his side!" he snapped, "He's all you ever cared about besides your stupid cat!"
"Ah, ah, ah!" Ratigan said, waving a warning finger, "We don't want to cross the line, do we?" He held the bell in his other hand.
"Anyone who's crossing the line, it's YOU!" Fidget said, putting his accusing finger on Ratigan's breast shirt, but the rat was quick to take the bat's finger off his chest.
"You're the one who's back talking." Then Ratigan imitated Fidget's voice, "Ha! Now, I got ya, toymaker! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!"
Fidget growled. "You copied me! You used my own words against me! How dare you!"
"Do you know what it's like to lose a family member or see one taken from you?" Ratigan demanded.
The bat gasped sharply because this hurt him to the core. "Yeah, but why do you care?"
"I ended their lives," Ratigan told him, "You should be grateful for that, you selfish brat!"
"Grateful for you killing my parents?" Fidget raged, his blood beginning to boil and sounded snarky on his part, "It was wrong, but you didn't care! I hate you!"
Ratigan was stunned to hear one of his henchmen say the last three words. "Yet you were insensitive, uncaring, and selfish enough to kidnap the toymaker and his daughter." He pointed to Olivia, who sat alone in the bottle, overhearing their argument. "You can hate me all you want, but it's true."
"I did those things under your orders, but you still emotionally abuse me and try to feed me to your cat!"
"That's because you lost the list and we agreed you can bring Basil and his partner along to trick them," Ratigan chided and grabbed him by the scarf with a smirk on his face as he continued to mimic Fidget's voice, "Gotcha! Ha, ha, ha!" He threw the bat in the sack and carried it with him. Then dropped it and said in a fake heartfelt way, "Oops!"
This gave Fidget the opportunity to crawl out of the sack. Ratigan imitated Fidget's cackles and said, "Bye, bye! Bye, bye!"
"Now you're really starting to make me mad!" Fidget fumed.
Then Ratigan used Fidget's song against him, "I got the gears, I got the tools, I got the uniforms! I got the girl!"
"Stop!"
Feigning hurt, Ratigan shouted, "OW! My foot! My foot! My only foot!"
"You're faking it!" Fidget said with a scoff.
Ratigan returned and pushed Fidget, making the bat land on his bottom. "That ought to hold you!"
"Ow, you hurt me!" Fidget complained.
The rat turned his words against him once more, "See how you like that!" Then to add a cherry to top it off, he blew a raspberry at Fidget, who cringed at his own hurtful words that were now passed on against him in return. He knew now how bad it affected others, but then Fidget stood up and slapped Ratigan in the face.
"Shut up, Ratigan! I'm sick and tired of you bullying me as well as bullying others! Have you thought of being loyal to me and your gang? Because you treat them like dirt, too!" With that nerve, he turned his back away from the evil professor.
The rat pressed his palm to his cheek, which hurt from the slap from his own henchman. He couldn't believe any of them would slap him. "What I was suggesting to you just now was you need to be careful of what you say or you'll regret it."
"And so do you!" The bat started to walk away and storm off to his room, slamming the door behind him.
Ratigan sighed to himself. "What am I going to do with him?" To Fidget, he added, "You're fired!"
"You can't fire me, I quit!" Fidget retorted.
…
An hour later, Fidget stepped out of his room to make up with Olivia. However, Olivia wasn't having it; she hadn't forgotten how poorly he treated her. "What are you doing here?" she demanded, "I heard what was going on between you and Ratigan. He's right about one thing: You need to be careful of what you say or you'll regret it."
This caught Fidget off-guard, making him flinch, but he knew she had a point. He sighed. "You're right. I'm sorry."
Olivia folded her arms. "I don't trust you. Even though your parents were killed, it doesn't give you the right to kidnap other people in a fit of jealousy, including those with families. My mother died when I was really young and I never kidnapped anyone nor did I work for criminals. Besides, Basil and Dawson will save me and my daddy."
The bat needed to think of how to get Olivia to trust him, but he knew he had to earn her trust. Little did the two of them know that a trio of Ratigan's gang members were watching and listening to them, but the trio decided to help Olivia and her father like Fidget was doing.
The peg legged bat sighed. "Your mom's gone?"
"Yes, but that's why I only have my daddy; he's all I have left."
"Sorry for your loss." Then Fidget had an idea. "Tell you what: I'll let you out so you can go undercover."
Olivia stared at him in confusion. "Undercover?"
Fidget nodded. "It means in disguise." He went over to the bottle's neck to pull out the cork.
"Are you sure you want to help me?" asked Olivia.
"Sure I'm sure."
"Okay." Olivia climbed up to Fidget and he pulled her out.
"Now let's go before someone sees us," said Fidget as he brought her to a dressing room filled with sailor and rogue outfits.
Olivia picked out the red sailor coat and the sailor hat with the same color as the coat. Once Olivia picked out an outfit, Fidget ushered her to the changing room. In the changing room, Olivia put on her disguise, covering her regular clothes and the sailor hat was big enough to cover her normal hat.
"You look great," Fidget complimented, "Now let's go get your dad."
When the two of them were about to save Olivia's father, a trio of Ratigan's gang members already helped him get out. Hiram was wearing a sailor disguise since the trio wanted him to go undercover. He wore a green suit with yellow buttons and a brown belt and green hat, and blue pants.
"We thought about what you said, Fidget," Snakes told Fidget.
"We wanted to help out," Bill added.
"Because that's what friends are for," Red stated.
"He's already in disguise," said Snakes, "So we should be fine."
Hiram gave Fidget a look of resentment, still upset with him for kidnapping him and his little girl. "For your sake, I hope you're telling the truth," Hiram warned.
Knowing what the toymaker was thinking, Fidget nodded. "I am," the bat assured him.
…
At The Rat Trap, Fidget, Red, Snakes, and Bill brought the Flavershams in the bar to see any signs of Basil and Dawson. Luckily, Basil and Dawson were also in disguise. "Dawson, here's our peg legged friend!" Basil called and he saw a man and his son. "What do you think you're doing? Don't you know your son isn't allowed in bars at such a young age?"
"It's bring your child to work day," the pirate in green said.
"The event is over," Basil pointed out.
"What he's trying to say is-" the child began.
"Olivia?" Basil and Dawson gasped in unison.
"Since Olivia is here, so is her father," Dawson mused.
"Yep, that's us," said Olivia.
"What have you four done to them?" Basil reprimanded Fidget, Bill, Snakes, and Red.
"We saved them," replied Fidget.
"And we helped Fidget with it," Snakes said, trying to reason with the incensed detective.
"Is this a trick? If so, I have no choice but to-"
"It's no trick," Red assured Basil, cutting him off.
"I couldn't trust them at first, either," Olivia said.
"Neither could I," Hiram added.
Basil and Dawson thought this over until Basil finally said, "We'll arrest Ratigan very soon, but don't betray us."
…
At Ratigan's hideout, Basil, Dawson, Hiram, Olivia, Fidget, Red, Snakes, and Bill were stopped by Ratigan and his pet raven, Blackclaw. "Well, well, well," Ratigan said, "I never expected you so early. Got your chemistry set to work properly, old boy?"
Basil checked his watch.
"Right on time," Ratigan said when Basil didn't reply.
"I did not see that coming, Professor," Blackclaw told Ratigan.
"But that's good." To his henchman, Ratigan asked, "What happened to Olivia and her father?"
Fidget, Snakes, Red, and Bill gulped at this, but knew that they had to keep the Flavershams safe. "They got eaten by Felicia," Snakes lied.
"That's strange," Ratigan said thoughtfully, "I never asked you to feed them to her."
"She got hungry," Red fibbed.
"Yeah, very hungry," Bill chimed in the lie.
"And we got bored," Fidget fibbed, shrugging his shoulders.
"But there's a father and a son here," Ratigan said, pointing towards the disguised toymaker and his daughter, who he hadn't recognized.
"They're new here," Red told Ratigan.
"Ah, what do you know, Professor?" Blackclaw mused, "New recruits."
"Yes," Ratigan said with a sly smile and advanced himself on the "new henchmen", cornering them against a wall.
"What are you doing to us?" the toymaker in disguise asked.
Olivia was trembling, fearing what the rat would do to her and her father, but did her best to put on a brave face.
"What I do to new recruits," Ratigan answered and was about to hit them when Basil stepped in between the disguised toymaker and his child and the professor.
"Leave them alone!" the detective shouted.
Ratigan glared at him. "Why should I? They're my new henchmen, so there's no say in what I do to them."
"They did NOTHING to you!" Basil retorted, "They are innocent!"
"Why you, meddling detective!" Ratigan smacked him across the face, realizing it was Basil in disguise.
Hiram and Olivia helped Basil up.
Fidget, Bill, Red, and Snakes wanted to help the trio, but were held back by Blackclaw. Disgusted that the raven was just going to let them stand there, being held back and do nothing to help their new friends, they punched him in the face when he wouldn't let go.
"You'll pay for this, traitors!" Blackclaw snapped.
"You'll pay for doing nothing to help your friends!" Red retorted and the four of them went to join Basil, Hiram, Olivia, and Dawson.
Basil grabbed handcuffs from his coat pocket and cuffed Ratigan's hands. Then the detective handed Dr. Dawson a pair of handcuffs to cuff Blackclaw and Dawson had done so. "You're under arrest for kidnapping, murdering, and assaulting a detective," Basil said to Ratigan, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law…" Basil and Dawson escorted the rat and Blackclaw to the police station where they will be in jail.
Hiram and Olivia took off their disguises, revealing their regular clothes.
Now with Ratigan and Blackclaw arrested, no one had to worry about him any longer. Felicia, on the other hand, died of starvation. No one had to worry about her anymore, either. Thanks to Basil and Dawson, Hiram and Olivia were officially reunited and Fidget, Red, Bill, and Snakes could live peacefully and visit the Flavershams and detectives whenever they liked.
AN: I thought what if Basil and Dawson arrived at Ratigan's lair 15 minutes earlier? Not that it would change much. Would it? Well, it could.
