Second Chances-Chapter One

Laverne has always been a romantic. What Shirl had always referred to as smut, it was romance that she wanted. She got what she wanted for a little while and fate usually moved her on to something new. Will she ever meet Mr. Right? Laverne didn't know and she wasn't in any kind of a hurry. All through the years she's enjoyed the adventure of meeting different people and the romances with other types of men.

It was the night that Laverne worked at her father's restaurant, Cowboy Bills that she met Peter. The latest and maybe the last man that would ever have Laverne's heart. They met while Laverne was closing the place up for the night. Shirley was away with her husband and new baby. She had a little girl and named her Sophia Laverne. She was very happy and honored to have her best friend's child named after her. Laverne was mopping the floor when she heard a voice behind her.

"Excuse me are you closed?" Laverne turned around to answer the mysterious stranger.

"Yes I'm sorry" just then Laverne turned around and stared at him. "I am really sorry that we're closed." She dropped the mop and walked toward the mysterious stranger. "My name's Laverne."

"I'm Peter. How do you do?" Laverne just stared into his deep blue eyes. She walked closer to him as if she was being drawn toward him by some force stronger than herself.

"I don't know. I don't know how I feel." He was tall and handsome but there was something in his face that she was drawn too also. He was also drawn to her. There's this innocence in her face. Playfulness that he found absolutely beautiful. Laverne stepped even closer to him and pulled him close to her and he bent down and kissed her softly on the lips. Even though they had only known each other for literally thirty seconds they both felt that they were being drawn together. Laverne put her arms around him and pulled him close to her. Forgetting that she was in her father's restaurant and actually was supposed to be cleaning up.

Frank and Edna came through the kitchen door. Frank was just about to yell at Laverne to get back to cleaning up, when Edna stopped him, and put a finger to her own lips. They both quietly slipped back in the kitchen and left the two alone. Laverne stepped away and a little embarrassed by her actions. She usually wasn't apologetic by something like this but there was something about him that she couldn't resist.

"I'm so sorry to be this forward and only meeting you now." Laverne turned red and Peter laughed.

"I'm not sorry. I could never be sorry for kissing a beautiful woman like you." He stepped toward her and kissed her again. She pulled away for just a second.

"I have to finish here and then I will meet you anywhere that you want." Laverne knew that was too forward but she couldn't see not ever seeing him again. She pulled him close this time and kissed him very passionately. Like it would be the last kiss that they would ever share.

"I'll just meet you down the street." He kissed her one last time and backed up and out of her sight. Laverne was in a daze and couldn't quite figure out what happened. The only thing that mattered was that she was in love. It was quick and it was real. As strange as it sounds it was the same way that she fell in love with Randy. She was getting a second chance at love. Edna finally came in after Peter had left and Laverne sat down now clenching the mop for dear life.

"Laverne sweetie?" She came behind but Laverne was in a daze still. Edna snapped her fingers and brought her back down to earth. "Laverne earth to Laverne." Laverne just looked at her. "Laverne honey are you alright?" Laverne finally spoke.

"Peter." It was the only thing that she said. "Edna, do you believe in love at first sight? Like in Romeo and Juliet?" Edna sat down with her at the table.

"Yes I do. Laverne are you alright? I've never seen you like this." Laverne just stared out in space.

"Edna I haven't felt like this since Randy. It's almost like he sent Peter to me. I'm supposed to meet him down the street. Do you think Pop will mind if I leave early?" Edna laughed.

"Trust me if this means for the future of his grandchildren then he won't mind a bit." She smiled and Laverne took off her apron and left in a hurry. Frank through the kitchen door.

"What was that about? Where's Laverne?" Edna just shook her head and said that she would explain later.

Laverne ran as fast as she could down the street. Peter was sitting on the curb. Laverne went to him and kissed him as soon as they met again. She sat beside him, and threw her arms around him and his around hers again and he held her tight, kissing her on the lips and then behind her ear and then just looked at her.

"Laverne do you think that this is really crazy? We just met and I can't keep my hands off of you." He put his arms around her and put his lips to the top of her head. "Maybe we should go someplace else. A little more private." She smiled when an idea popped in her head. She lived alone now and that meant she could bring home who she wanted. They reached her apartment and they still couldn't keep their hands off each other. Kissing each other as she unlocked her apartment door and landed finally on the couch. He leaned her against the cushion of the couch and ran his hands through her hair. She held him tight around his neck. Even as they were making out in her apartment. He was still a gentleman and that made her fall for him even more.

He pulled away from her for a second and sat up and looked at her. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. "Laverne I don't want you to think that I am trying to take advantage of you, but I am so drawn to you." Laverne kissed him again not wanting it to end like it did with Randy. She couldn't stop the force that was drawing them together. She didn't want to stop and didn't care at that moment what happened.

"Peter I hope you don't think that I am the type to just jump on any guy that looks at me. I am drawn to you for some reason that I don't know. I don't want this moment to end. So can we just make it last as long as we can?" After she said that Peter grabbed her and kissed her with all the passion that he had inside of him. The more he kissed her the more he was falling for her. They wouldn't do anything other than kiss and hold each other that night, but it was a beginning.

The next morning Peter was still with her but the only thing that happened all night was holding each other close while talking and passionately kissing. It was the most romantic night of Laverne's life. They talked about their childhoods and how she moved here with her best friend Shirl and now she and her husband and child lived far away.

"Laverne would it scare you away if I told you that I think that I am falling in love with you?" Laverne looked at him deeply in the eyes. She shook her and kissed him again and then pulled back.

"It wouldn't scare me away. I wouldn't even think it was crazy, because I have already fallen for you." Peter then smiled and kissed her again.
