Little A/N to the folks wondering about names and connections to the Destiny Universe.

Yes. Varyks is a play on of Variks the Loyal. In the lore for Varyks himself, he was raised with his family until Seven, before Snoke got his claws in him and around the time Starkiller fired, he got free and left because he could not withstand the hatred any longer.

Savathûn was born into the control of Sidious' Sith Eternal, she knows nothing but the Dark Side at it's finest, but she craves knowledge and understanding. Her creator wanted to make a sith that was foreboding as well as highly intelligent enough that her plans were never understood by even her own teacher.

So get ready for a ride. They won't be super powerful, but at the same time, more than a match for some characters. Also, you'll be meeting at least two of my original team, Stygian Nero, and for the sake of the story, Kombu Ao, to keep the team rather… Diverse and unique.

As for what's in store? You'll have to find out.

Vale. 7:30 PM

Varyks didn't even wince while the nurse applied stitches, her face set in a deep frown as she was trying to figure out why he had not brought up his aura to defend himself. "Next time, do not let your aura go to the point it breaks, especially when you're out there fighting the Grimm." The woman kindly scolded while she continued to stitch up the young man. "You should know this."

"My teacher was an old, old soul who didn't unlock my aura… I was trained in a way that let me see things a bit faster than most… And he was none too kind about how I was trained…" Varyks lied smoothly.

The woman scoffed. "I can believe that. You have the scars to prove it all." She said, looking over his body. Primarily, on his back. It was marred by heavy scarring, some of which overlapped others, and some looked recent, as well. "And now you have more scars to add."

Varyks had no qualms about talking ill of his old master, his short time here made him realize that he was indeed free of Snoke's hold. Every ping he set off towards the dark master was met with a static that he could be comfortable with. Same with the Ren. And along with that came some memories that were slowly flowing back. The first one he saw while he had fallen into a slight sleep was the face of a woman with flowing white hair and golden eyes, smiling at him with a foreign warmth that he was so very uncomfortable with. He didn't know what the case was with the woman, but he didn't chase it. There was no sense in chasing the past when he had far more important things to worry about when it came to the present and the future. But, it was also something that he could meditate on later.

"Perhaps you should get your Aura unlocked… It isn't something that I can do, since I am not a Huntress or student, however…"

He didn't even know if he could do such. The Force had been all he needed, and it was not a top priority, however…

If the Grimm could harm him, he had no doubt others could. "Perhaps… I shall see about that. I honestly might have used too much when I used my semblance out there…"

It was an excuse, but a workable one. Stygian poked his head inside the doorway and looked at Varyks with a narrowed gaze over his shades. "Hey, so… I have no idea how you managed to do so, but, you have the attention of the headmaster of Beacon. He wants to have a word with you after you're done…" He said, slinking back out of the doorway again. Varyks had no clue who that was supposed to be, but he regarded the nurse, who had a slight look of surprise on her face.

"Well, how about that?" She muttered. "Best not to keep Professor Ozpin waiting." She said, moving on to finish up stitching his wounds up.

After arduous moments of getting his stitches done, he tapped into the Force with ease, feeling the life in this building as it roamed around. He zeroed in on the feeling of ancient power, tilting his head slightly, suspecting that this may be the one they spoke of. Ozpin?

It made little sense when he saw the man in person. Gray hair, glasses, the green outfit and cane. He assumed that it was his weapon, as well as a piece to look at, but he looked to the man's eyes.

Normally, Varyks was very good at telling peoples intent. But he saw a man who had seen far more than anybody his age should have, far more than should have been allowed in a certain lifespan. Something about Ozpin was very… Old. Wise.

Powerful.

"Good evening, Mister Ren." He spoke, giving a nod of his head. "I assume you are feeling much better now?"

Varyks shook his head indifferently. "I suppose so… I did get bitten." He responded curtly. "Not only that, I lost all my other things, save for that bag." He muttered as well.

"Yes… Your arrival has been quite trivial, I must say. That ship you crashed landed was certainly not of any make we are aware of."

Oh, Kriff.

What was Varyks to do? He couldn't have been made that quick, could he? "I'm not following…"

Ozpin closed the door fully, approaching Varyks and looking at him closely. "You, my friend… Are not from this world…" He stated plainly. "But fear not. Nobody is going to dissect you for study." He chuckled before he motioned for him to follow.

Varyks stood up and began to follow Ozpin, pulling on his jacket and covering his exposed chest before he grabbed his bag and looked over to the older man. "I would hope so. The fact I've survived this long only to die to experiments would be something I could never get over." The youth said as slung his pack over the uninjured shoulder.

Ozpin tilted his head slightly. "Perhaps we could come to an agreement, then?"

Ah, there it is. Varyks saw this coming, it was inevitable. A deal to be struck for his continued survival.

"You could tell me about the abilities, you see… In return, you can learn how to live upon this planet." The man said. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but, your ship is gone and likely had technology that is advanced enough to support space flight. I do not see you going very far without it."

Varyks didn't really see how exactly the man knew so very much, but also, it concerned him on ever getting free. "I… You are correct, Headmaster Ozpin." He said. "Where I'm from… Things are far more different. Your world is a small, tiny dot in comparison to the Galaxy at large. I pray that we are still within it, that this is just… Some backwater world that's been entirely self sufficient to get this far into it's natural cycle of life. That I may be the first to initiate contact…"

"I can tell you for certain, Mister Ren… Remnant has never faced any kind of extraterrestrial encounter of this form. Many things have happened in this planet's past that have led to the current situation of the planet now." Ozpin began to explain. "Now, I'd wager to believe that you are aware of a great many planets in your 'galaxy'. Have you ever heard of Remnant?"

Varyks shook his head almost immediately. "I have not… If I had access to my holoterminal, perhaps I could search through the known database… but-"

"Your ship is currently a slag heap in the forests…"

"Precisely."

Ozpin paused at the street, hands resting on his cane as he adopted a very thoughtful pose. "I see… Well then, we shall figure this out a step at a time." Ozpin started, looking to Varyks

"Tell me. Do your people have Fairy Tales and mythical legends?"

Varyks almost laughed. "I'm sorry, but I do not know what you mean… I guess in terms of Mythical beings, you could consider me one of them, but it's… Complicated. Everything about my life has been."

"Or perhaps… You've merely forgotten the simpler things. Things that require a smaller, more honest soul?" Ozpin said, about to continue, only to pause as his scroll began to ring. "One moment, please."

Vale - 6:00 PM

Savathûn was intently watching as the airship landed, and she let off a slight hum of amusement when she saw how primitive the tech was. She looked over to the youth next to her, the Sith tilting her head as she poked at Ruby with the Force, seeing almost no reaction aside from her shivering.

"Oo-ooh, that was weird…" Ruby chattered out, before she looked at the taller Savathûn next to her. "Did you feel that?"

She only earned a shake of the head in response. "No, little rose, I most certainly did not." But in her mind, Savathûn was actually amused by this development. It seemed some of the people on Remnant had a vestigial connection to the force, even though it was highly diminished to the point that they could only feel certain things, such as her brushing her presence against them. But she could also chalk it up to Ruby being a slightly special case, seeing as she felt something very different about her compared to the people around her. Her father, Taiyang— Who she had not a single clue as to how they produced Ruby— did not have that feeling, and the sister, Yang, was not around for her to tell.

It was a most curious thing for her to figure out.

"So… I'm like… Super awkward and really bad with meeting new people, I prefer to work on weapons." Ruby attempted to make small talk, even though she stumbled on words here and there and poked her fingers together.

Savathûn turned her gaze up to meet Ruby's silver eyes. "I believe I can relate, Ruby." She responded. She wouldn't share the details, but Savathûn did not think it was pertinent either. She did not make friends, they held one back and were a key for weakness.

Her surprise was great when she felt the presence of that boy, using the force as if it were just some tool, but she could also feel the fear that rolled off of him. How has he survived such a crash? With a glance to the side, she could see rising smoke off in the forest, and she shook her head. "It would seem there is a fire." Savathûn pointed out, earning Ruby's attention.

"Uh oh… Looks like Vale's authorities are on it though…" Ruby pointed out the amount of bull heads heading towards the location. "Though hopefully, they'll be able to get to it before it spreads." Ruby said as they landed at the port. Disembarking with everyone else, the pair began to wander around Vale, with signal academy looming in the background, Ruby was ready to part ways with Savathun until she realized that the older girl had nowhere to go. "Hey… Do you want to see the sights before it gets darker?"

Savathûn looked over, blinking those golden eyes of hers as she thought it over. It seemed like the absolute perfect opportunity to gather more information about this place, and where to properly ambush the boy who attacked her. She gave Ruby a nod. "Yes, that would be nice." She said, looking back to see the sun was beginning to set.

And so, for a while, the pair continued to wander, Ruby pointing out several locations of interest to Savathûn, before Ruby brought them to a Dust Shop, appropriately named From Dust Til Dawn. Humorously named… Dry humor, that is. She mocked in her head. Ruby practically pranced off to the back, while Savathûn began to walk around, studying the multiple facets of the actual merchandise that was there.

Her sense of danger was rising quite high, and she looked around, eyes narrowed in suspicion as she spotted figures outside, all of them making their ways inside of the building. "Do you how hard it is to find a Dust shop open this late?" The man with the bowler hat asked the owner. Savathûn lowered her stance as she slowly moved back towards Ruby's location.

"Please… Just take my lien and leave!" The owner said.

The Bowler hat man shook his head, shushing the man. "Calm down. We're not here for money." He looked to the others who came with. "Grab the dust." He commanded as they spread through the store, gathering up the red dust.

Savathûn made it back to the back of the store, pretending to look at weapon parts as thoughts crossed her mind and she reached out and gave Ruby a gentle Nudge. It just so happened to be at the same time a thug approached her. "Hey! You got a death wish or somethin'"

Ruby turned, brow raised as she pulled her earphones down. "Yes?"

The thug looked to be very unamused with her. "I said hands where I can see them." He said, sword in hand. Savathûn watched on with amusement growing.

"Are you…" Ruby looked him up and down. "... Robbing me?" She asked, a grin forming on her face.

This girl was truly amusing to watch.

"Yes!"

"Ohhh…"

"H-Hey!" The Thug was sent flying back down the Isle, landing in a crash at the feet of the man with the Bowler hat. He looked at the others, brow raised as he nodded to the others.

Savathûn sighed to herself as she let the Force flow through her and as soon as one of the Thugs had a gun pointed at them, She seized him with a simple grip, before nodding at Ruby with a smirk on her glossed lips. Ruby used her semblance, delivering a heavy flying kick to the man's chest as they flew out of the window of the store. Savathûn, however, propelled herself through as well, landing in a crouch as her black cloak billowed from the sudden wind, her fair skin and dark hair swaying as she let her smaller companion take lead again, brandishing that deadly scythe as if it were nothing.

The man in the hat shook his head. "Okaaaay… Get them!" He said, clearly exasperated at the way his men stood around before they jumped into action, moving in to attack the pair.

Ruby isolated two of them, but Savathûn had no visible weapon, and she avoided his amateur swings with his blood red sword, laughing in his face as she caught his wrist in a hard grasp before she began to push him back. "You think you have the skills to stop us… How cute… Now, sleep." She said, the Force weighing heavily on the man as he fell asleep while standing. She grabbed his fallen sword, looking to see Ruby easily finish off her two, the man with the hat walking out with his cane in hand, shaking his head at the fallen Thugs.

"Worth Every cent, truly… Well Red, Tall Dark and Scary, I think we can all agree that this has been quite the eventful evening, and as much as I would love to stay and chat, this... is where we part ways." He held up his cane, the end flipping up as a fireball flew from it and threatened to consume the pair. Savathûn forced her hand out, moving to stand before Ruby protectively as she diverted the flames around them both. The heat was unreal, but they would be okay, and by the time the smoke cleared, they were face to face with…

The road?

"Where did he..-" Ruby heard a noise and both she and Savathûn saw him climbing up to a roof top. "You okay if we go get him?" She asked the shop owner.

The man nodded, and with a red blur, Ruby propelled herself up to the roof top, stopping short of maiming the man. "Hey!" She shouted, a Bullhead coming up just as Savathûn landed in a crouch next to Ruby, the sword in her hand seeming to flicker with energy.

"Persistence is one thing, Ruby, but I don't think we have much of a match on this one." Savathûn pointed out, watching Roman as he yelled something. Again, she saw danger in the form of a red dust crystal. It landed in a clink, before the sound of Roman firing that cane drew her eyes back up. She was about to throw her hand it, when the explosion redirected away from both Savathûn and Ruby, and a blonde woman with a tattered black cape stood in front of them, a massive purple glyph restraining the explosion and then collapsing smaller as the woman huffed and pushed up her glasses.

Hell broke loose after that, and she sent purple energy flying back at the Bullhead, sending it nearly spiraling along. Ruby took that opportunity to anchor her rifle, opening fire at the opening. Savathûn however, made eye contact with the woman who had come to the opening of the Bullhead, their golden eyes seeking answers from one another as she easily deflected the bullets with her hand.

Savathûn, breaking eye contact, began to let lightning dance along the sword, before she pointed it up, the purple arcs of electricity bolting at the engine of the Bullhead. She didn't even notice the ground glowing beneath them until the blonde sent her back with her Telekinetic Semblance, both she and Ruby getting out of the danger zone as it exploded.

The distraction was enough that it let the Bullhead escape, just as Sirens were heard below.

"You're a huntress!" Ruby called out, looking at the blonde who was very unimpressed. "Can I have your autograph!?"

"Humph…"

Vale 8:36 PM

It had been over an hour when they finally got to speak to someone else aside from Police Officers, and in that time, Ruby had been a bundle of nervous energy that couldn't ever sit still, her chair constantly wobbling. "What you and your friend did was foolish and I hope you realize that both of your actions tonight will not be taken lightly, young lady. You put yourselves and others in great danger."

Savathûn was in the darker side of the room, her arms crossed as she watched the woman. "To be fair..-"

"They Started it!" Ruby called out.

There was no way Savathûn would get a word in with Ruby letting her emotions reign freely. With a sigh, she looked over to the woman. "If it were up to me, you'd both be sent home with a pat on the back… and a Slap on the wrist!" She slapped her riding crop on the table. Ruby jumped, yelping in surprise, but Savathûn didn't even flinch.

Her grandfather had done far worse to scare her into obedience, and the woman did not inspire much fear in her. "Why aren't you, then?" Savathûn asked lowly.

"There is someone here to meet you."

The door opened up and a man walked in, a cup of coffee in one hand, and a plate of cookies in the other… He looked to Ruby with a brow raised slightly. "Ruby Rose… You." He leaned in, studying her closely. "Have silver eyes…"

Ruby was a bit confused, even more so when Savathûn stood up. "Q-Quaria?"

The man motioned for Ruby to move to the side, and another stepped in, his cracked face mask and goggles giving the allusion of a Grimm. He locked eyes with Savathûn, before a red beam of energy suddenly sprang out from his hand with a snap-hiss, and he struck out at her with a heavy overhead strike, cutting a slight streak into the ceiling, only to be intercepted by a purple blade in Savathûn's hand as loud crackling was heard from their meeting.

The other woman quickly moved away and moved the table as the two continued to fight in the closed space, moving faster than the eyes could see, even faster than Ruby using her semblance, only for them to stop when they both locked blades again, their lightsabers crackling harshly.

"How are you still alive?" He asked. "The ship exploded…"

"I jumped." She returned. "Fool... I am a Sith, not some pretender." Savathûn remarked as she gave a smirk and her eyes glowed yellow. "But… I feel now is hardly the time to fight…" She shook her head, giving her opponent a moment to realize the truth.

Varyks huffed, before he disengaged the lock up of their lightsabers, pointing his at her. "This isn't over.." He stated.

"Oh, but it is, Ren."

Savathûn extinguished the purple crossguard, and she then stored it in her robes. "We are in a strange place with abilities that we cannot explain. Surely, we can find some way to work together now?"

"She has a point, Mister Ren. It's very clear both of you are in a very precarious position…" Ozpin interjected, tapping his cane on the floor. "This world can use warriors such as yourself. Where your masters failed you, you can succeed here, and I have firm belief that you have been brought here for a reason. I ask you now what you wish to do with your second chances?"

Savathûn looked at Ozpin, brow tilted up in a suspicious manner, before she faced Varyks again. "Very well… I cannot promise to move mountains, but as I am a seeker of knowledge and understanding through power, I will stay here. Provided this one holds his blade."

Varyks let off a huff, crossing his arms slowly as if he were in pain. "Fine…" Came a begrudging response.

"Splendid… Now if you please could wait outside. I would like to finish my conversation with Miss Rose." Ozpin responded as he faced the shocked Ruby.

Stepping out, both Varyks and Savathûn studied each other, before she spoke up. "Tell me, little Ren…" he sneered at that remark. "... Did Snoke ever tell you the truth of your family?"

"No… What would you know?" Varyks became uneasy, she could feel it in the force.

She clasped her hands before her, letting the dark side recede from her face, and she looked at his masked face. "You, Varyks Ren, are living in a fabricated elaborate lie…" She said, the silver roots of her hair showing she dyed it. And it was making him very uncomfortable.

"How could you… Wait…" He stared at the features of her face, ignoring everything else. "You have… Her face…"

She arched a brow, amusement forming on her face. "Do I? I certainly do, don't I? You know what this means, yes?" She stepped closer to him, looking into the crimson visor of the mask. "Ah… You do… you can't deny the truth."

She took his mask off, taking in the shocked look. "Hello… Little Brother…"

And this concludes another chapter of RWBY: Darkness and Light.

I know that this is a cliffhanger, but considering how long I wrote this, and how long it took for me to actually get around to finishing, I think it's going to be OK.
