Here comes the finale, read on to the end...
Ch45: Epilogue
The next day business had officially begun, which included the cleanup finally underway across the two cities. With aid from the dragons, the remains of the terraformer had been gathered together and dumped into the sea. Ashelin and Torn had also returned to Haven the previous day after the celebrations to finally begin the post war cleanup. Knowing the damage was even heavier than the last one, they knew they had a lot of work ahead of them.
Samos and Keira stayed behind, along with Onin and Packer to be with Jak and the dragons. Being there for the latter because they knew he was still in mourning despite putting on his usual brave face, and the other because they finally wanted to get to know the friends and teachers from Spyro and Cynder's world. The young ones began bonding almost immediately, as Keira immediately started conversing with Saphira and Chloro, with Jak, Spyro and Cynder by her side.
On the other side at the Monk Temple, the senior members along with Zaxto, the dragon Elorian translator were conversing together. Seem also included Samos and Onin with the dragon guardians regarding their translations of the runes while the heroes were saving the planet. Samos had even spoken with each dragon guardian in a collaborative share of knowledge, though the sage was forced to cut the conversation with Volteer short, otherwise as Daxter once predicted, the electric guardian's excessive tongue would have had them going on for days.
As for the discoveries the monks had made regarding the arch, the findings were revolutionary. Within the details the precursors had written the nature of the Arch's purpose, as well as a clue to the origins of their language. It shocked everyone present, human and dragon, for the interpretation stated that their runes had a root dialect learned from another race unknown to them all! What this race was called, was unfortunately left unsaid.
Further mysteries aside, Calidan was meanwhile trying to contemplate where his life was going now. He knew the days of living his solitary life in secrecy were over, and the upcoming transition to civilization would be uncomfortable. Though how else would one feel coming into a civilized life after 18 years in a desert? Regardless, he did his part in aiding in the cleanup, though he kept one piece of personal property from it. Among the terraformer rubble he found a small piece of ruined metal wing, the only remains of his destroyed Eagle pack. He asked his friends what he should do now that it was gone after all the time he spent building it.
Cynder merely answered, "broken wings mend in time Cal, that holds true even for dragons. Stick to what drives you, and I promise the Eagle will fly again."
Knowing she meant that he could build another one in the future, which was true, he resolved to hold onto that. Of course he still had to sort through his desert homestead and ensure he had everything he needed from there prior to leaving for Haven to help his new friends with the cleanup there, since Jak and the others would be returning after their business in the desert was done. In Calidan's case, it started with receiving his final Spargus amulet from Sig, as a proper reward for his part in saving the city in the final battle.
Sig had said aloud, "In the spirit of our late king, knowing full well that you've earned it, I hereby present you Cal with your final battle amulet. You're an official citizen of Spargus now, and all I have left to say is, welcome."
Naturally his friends were present and smiling with pride at him, though Calidan looked like he could barely keep his composure as he gave the new Spargus king a grateful bow. 18 years ago, his grandfather had the door shut in his face to this city, now he had done what his Pap wished from the beginning, he had found a proper home in the wasteland. There was also the possibility of one in Haven too, since Ashelin and Torn were allowing him temporary stay in Freedom League headquarters as he underwent his screening there. All of this happening at once was overwhelming for him, and to think it all began because he decided to follow two strangers into the Monk Temple instead of shooting them, thank goodness he made the right choice!
Having received his citizenship, Calidan felt it was only right to visit his Pap's grave. He even invited his new friends to attend his visit, although he wished they could have met him in person. Sarian's gravemarker was embedded in the rocky cliff near the mountain tunnel's east side, with his name crudely scratched in, stretching only a foot in length. He wished it could have been cleaner, but he was only 6 years old when he had made it, and it was no doubt the most difficult moment of his life. Jak, Spyro, Cynder, Daxter and Sparx kept a few feet back while bowing their heads in respect just as they did at Damas's funeral. All the while, Calidan was ahead kneeling down, speaking to his grandfather for the first time in years.
"Hey Pap, been a while since I've come here. I've honestly lost track…sigh...sorry. But I felt I should tell you in person, or as close as I can now, I am an official citizen of Spargus. I also found out why you were ignored before, the Spargus king before the one who approved me was a real monster. He only cared about gaining power with his subjects, not taking care of them. It's actually a good thing I guess, otherwise odds are we both would have been dead from living under him. Don't worry, he's long gone now, and the city and wasteland are in better hands. Now I am too, I found something recently I was never able to find no matter how deep I dug in this sandpit...friends, good friends."
Cynder could only smile as she and the others watched him speak to the only family he had ever known, now departed.
A few more days soon passed, and the hero party was making their way through the Monk Temple. It was now the dragons final day on Elorin, and none of them intended to miss it. While passing through the atrium, Cynder finally decided to speak to Sparx about a certain matter.
"So Sparx, about earlier, what has happened to show this surprise sense of respect for me now?"
The dragonfly thought on his words before answering, "well Cynder, as you know when you first came along, you were the scariest thing I ever had the displeasure of meeting."
Scowls were seen or heard from the entire hero party, but it didn't stop Sparx, "but even after Spyro saved you, I continued to see nothing but the monster that had first attacked us, despite Spyro's protests to the contrary. However, now that I've seen with my own eyes who the real monster is, the one who made you what you once were against your will, I've finally come to realize he was right all along."
Sparx finally shared his epiphany with everyone present, Jak, Daxter, Calidan, and Spyro. Cynder listened intently hearing the sincereness behind Sparx's tone, the only time the dragoness remembered hearing it before was when she and Spyro left for the Belt of Fire. Now this time it was about her, and Sparx's realizations about Malefor after finally meeting him in the flesh. She was soon moved by what she heard the dragonfly say.
"You didn't choose to be a monster unlike that ugly purple traitor of a dragon, you were forced from the start. In my ignorance I kept a grudge against you, one that you never deserved regardless of what had been done in your past. I see things clearly now, and all I have to say is, sorry for everything I've ever said to you...and...my brother is really lucky to have someone as amazing as you in his life."
Cynder's face broke into the happiest smile she had had in a long time, after so many years of bitterness and disagreement, she and Sparx had finally come to a full understanding. Their friends behind her nodded in approval at Sparx's speech, though none were more proud than Spyro. The bad blood between his girlfriend and his stepbrother was now gone, they had finally made peace.
Cynder stepped up and gave the little dragonfly a nuzzle, and said emotionally, "thank you."
Sparx was at first stunned, then nodded back before saying, "anytime, though still, you two keep watching out for one another ok? It's not like I'll always be around to save your lives after all."
Spyro and the others laughed, "sure thing Sparx."
"Oh yes, where we would be without your lightbulb head lighting our way?" Daxter sarcastically asked.
"Better than down all those pitch dark holes you seem to lead us down!" Sparx retorted pointing at him.
"Hey! I don't lead down to them! They always find me!" the ottsel argued.
"Yeah? Not from where I'm flying, 'Mr. precursor' the dragonfly argued mocking his so-called blessing.
"Now don't you be…"
"AHEM"
Once again, the sidekicks were interrupted by their respective heroes, Jak and Spyro giving them a stern glare of silence. Cynder and Calidan merely huffed in exhaustion before they continued into the temple. Even though Sparx and Cynder had finally made peace with each other, it seemed highly unlikely that Sparx and Daxter would come to the same agreement anytime soon, if ever…
The hero party had soon completed their trek through the temple and arrived at the Alliance Arch chamber. All the dragons, guardians and acolytes were accounted for. They had gathered there along with all of their present allies of the Monk Temple and Haven. This included Seem and her group of monks, Samos, Keira, Onin, Packer, and Sig. Torn and Ashelin would have been there, if not for the fact they were currently overseeing the heavy cleanup back home.
In the past few days, the newfound 'Union Alliance' treaty had been written. Copies had been made of the original which would remain in the temple, one was written for the Haven group to take back with them as part of reestablishing a functional government body once reconstruction was finished. The other was written for the dragons to take back with them to the realms, drafted courtesy of Zaxto, who was also taking back his scroll copies of Precursor language study gifted from the monks to keep his newfound skill sharp and even help teach others. His time at the library along with Cyril and Volteer had also given Seem lessons of her own on how to interpret the draconian language, as a means of further cementing the newfound alliance.
With the diplomacy now complete, and the planet saved from the Dark Makers, the dragons mission on Elorin was now coming to an end. They had already said their goodbyes to all their Spargus friends, though Saphira had to hold her tears when the children were begging her not to go. Despite the bonds they had formed, she knew she had to return home, though she promised them they would meet again one day.
The one matter that still bothered the dragons was that Spyro and Cynder said that even though Errol was gone, Malefor was still out there, where they did not know. However, unlike before they knew he barely had anything working for him right now, and if he ever resurfaced, with the newfound alliance in place, he would have two worlds after his head now instead of one. For now, the time had come to return home and settle matters there, but not before they gave all their newfound friends a fond farewell.
Terrador spoke for the whole dragon group gathered near him to the human group right beside them, "all I can say is, it has been an ordeal unlike any the previous guardians before us have ever had, but even more so it has been a grand adventure, and meeting all of you to establish this newfound pact has been a true privilege."
"The honor is ours as much as yours dragon guardian," Seem spoke for her group, "if it wasn't said the first time your young ones came to our world, we can say now, that you and your kind will always be welcome here, just please call first."
The dragons chuckled as well as the humans before Terrador continued, "the door swings both ways, wise monk, our world is open all the same."
"Guess this means we'll have to increase security to this thing for the future," Sig said looking at the currently inactive Alliance Arch, "which will be a challenge, especially out here."
"Perhaps we can set something up for it in Haven? They have security measures few know the way around after all," Keira suggested, "and it would be a way to help clear the air between the two factions."
"Your intentions are good Keira, though they might be fleeting," Sig kindly warned, "though what I find really outrageous is your suggestion of moving the Arch. Do you really think you can move something like that?"
"Trust me Sig, it wouldn't be the first time," informed Daxter, remembering the Rift Ring from Sandover Village, remembered only by Jak, Keira and Samos.
"We'll work something out, we always do. In the meantime I'm sure Spargus can spare a few guards here, they're the best anywhere right Sig?" asked Jak.
"Right," agreed the one-eyed wastelander.
"We too will work something out regarding the gate on our end," Terrador added in.
"That all said, I believe there was one more thing we had to share, right old chap?" Cyril asked.
"Yes," Terrador agreed before turning toward his colleague's present acolyte, "Saphira?"
The blue dragoness nodded before reaching into her satchel, pulling out the mystic gem she had brought with her. The sight of it stunned the Elorin group, they didn't know the dragons had another one with them all this time!
Terrador addressed the humans, "Prior to coming here, an old friend of ours wished to make himself known when the time was right, and that is now." He nodded to the dragoness, and Saphira set it on the ground, touching its hem with her paw, then after a few moments, it gave a brilliant shine blinding them temporarily. The humans' vision soon returned, only for them to be shocked by what they were seeing, a transparent image of a white dragon was being projected from the gem, gazing at them with a mysterious yet kind expression.
"Everyone, allow us to introduce the wisest dragon present in our realms, as well as an old friend and former guardian leader, Ignitus, also known as the Chronicler," Terrador introduced to them all.
"Greetings natives of Elorin, it is an honor to finally meet all of you."
"By the precursors," gasped Samos. Keira, Sig, Seem, and the monks were all speechless. Even Onin and Packer were, for even though the soothsayer was blind, she could tell from the voice that it emitted great wisdom and power. She already had sensed plenty from the dragons present, but this ancient one in addition was beyond anything she had ever encountered in even her lifetime!
Jak and Daxter were stunned for a moment themselves, until they recognized the white dragon from over a year ago. In their eyes, he hadn't changed a bit, both in appearance and his knack for dramatic entrances. They even saw out of the corner of their eyes how thrilled Spyro was to see his old mentor again.
"Ignitus? The guardian you said had died?" Seem questioned, "He was really alive?!"
"At first we didn't believe it either," Cyril explained, "but as we understand it, apparently before his spirit was called into the next world, it was called to take a new role in ours instead."
"We apologize for holding out on this until now, but it was his request that he not be known until it was assured your world was safe and diplomacy had succeeded," Terrador said with slight somber tone, knowing they had kept Ignitus's state a secret since arriving on Elorin, even though they had done so only because the Chronicler had asked the guardians and acolytes prior to the departure to hold it off until a proper time.
"My old friends speak true," Ignitus spoke, "since I learned of Malefor being unleashed on your world, I believed it was best to remain anonymous until it was certain the threat of his malice was dealt with. For if he had even a hint of my involvement, he would have most likely attacked with even greater ferocity a lot sooner, and your planet would have suffered greatly. That said, I offer my apologies for remaining unknown."
"Such apologies are unnecessary as far as we're concerned! We're just thrilled to finally meet you!" Samos said, "Spyro spoke quite highly of you the first time he came."
"Hehe, did he now?"
"Yup, how could I not Ignitus?" Spyro replied grinning at his old teacher.
"I see nothing has changed at all in that regard," Jak commented, catching Ignitus's attention.
"Young Jak! Good to see you again lad! I presume you're still doing right by your world?"
"Eh, more or less," his calm response surprised the rest of the humans, especially Samos and Keira, they didn't know Jak had met Ignitus before this!
"Yeah, when we're not being shot at or nearly killed while trying to do it, of course," Daxter added, feeling the same as Jak.
"Hehe, from the previous stories I remember being told young Daxter, that's where you truly shine."
The ottsel merely shrugged his shoulders with Jak rolling his eyes.
Spyro then stepped up in front of Ignitus close to Jak and his old friends, "Ignitus, allow me to introduce Jak's teacher and guardian, Samos the sage, and his daughter Keira."
Terrador came up from the opposite side next to the Monk group, "Also Ignitus, allow me to introduce the friends here who have helped us non-stop upon arrival. This is Seem and her order of Precursor Monks, dedicated to discovering and protecting the secrets of the precursors themselves, as well as keepers of the Alliance Arch that brought us together."
"Hello noble ones," Ignitus greeted.
"Salutations, Dragon Chronicler," Seem replied with a bow, her monks following her lead.
"Uh, hi" Keira said with her father bowing to the dragon spirit beside her.
"Also, allow me to introduce Lord Sig, the ruler of the local city of Spargus," Terrador finished the introductions addressing the man standing next to Seem. Sig somewhat shifted uncomfortably, still not used to being called by his new title.
"It is a privilege, your highness," said Ignitus
"Likewise Lord Ignitus," Sig responded.
"No need for peerage, please just call me Ignitus, like all my friends do."
"Likewise...again," Sig replied, with all the humans giving a respectful nod.
"That being said, I would like to extend my offering of an open channel with your world through me. While the Arch will remain a gateway, an open link with me will provide for a more efficient means of communication. My only condition is to keep the mystic gem present under proper protection, and it's yours."
"We honorably accept the offering, and its conditions," said Seem in agreement.
Ignitus then addressed his dragon kin one last time, "The Arch is ready to receive you all back. Also, an old friend has come along with the acolytes to greet you upon its activation. See you all soon."
With that, Ignitus's image vanished, and the mystic gem's glow faded. With a nod from Terrador, Seem motioned for her monks to pick the gem up, given its size it took three of them, and they all left down the walkway to store it in their vault. Only Seem and her Head Research Monk stayed behind with the others, but then the lady monk turned to Jak.
"Now then, Heir of Mar, may you do the honor of opening the Arch again?"
Jak was stunned momentarily at Seem no longer calling him 'Dark One' before replying, "sure, you have another crystal on hand?"
"Given the newfound mastery of your powers, I believe that will no longer be required. I theorize now that your own abilities will substitute just fine," Seem said gesturing to the arch.
"She may have a point, when the Dark Makers activated the arch on my world, they first opened it with their own powers, you should be able to do the same," said Spyro.
Jak walked up to the arch, facing its left leg as the others observed behind him. He began concentrating on his eco powers, gave the arch a pulse, and the drawer successfully opened once again!
Despite this, Jak had to ask, "umm, if I recall correctly, weren't we supposed to put a crystal in here regardless?"
"Huff, you may have a gift for channelling eco young one, but you still have much to learn," Seem said dryly, "darkness can only go so far, light is what leads the way."
Her cryptic comment actually made sense to Jak, and refocusing his abilities on Light Eco, he sent a pulse of energy into the drawer, causing it to close. The Arch lit up as it did before, giving everyone the familiar show right up to the blue swirling tunnel which began to melt away almost instantly as the Master Control took a hold. As the images were becoming clearer, they saw a figure standing on the other side in the Dragon Realms temple. As soon as the distorted picture finished settling, the figure walked right through the portal onto the other side, pleasantly surprising the whole group.
"Hello my old friends, it's good to see you again," greeted the cheetah archer from Avalar.
"HUNTER!" cheered an ensemble which included Jak, Spyro, Cynder, Sparx, Daxter, and Keira. All of them walked up to their old cheetah friend with warm greetings.
"Is that cat walking on two legs, and talking?!" Calidan exclaimed pointing a finger in surprise from what he had just seen emerge from the portal.
"Like the guardians all over again, seeing this bipedal feline is more illuminating than the descriptions," Seem told Sig who nodded back in response, having been the one along with Cynder to tell the monk of the Dragon Realms ally that had aided them on Elorin a year before. The guardians as well as the acolytes were moved that Ignitus had sent not only an old friend, but the official ambassador from Avalar, of course who else would one send when setting up diplomatic relations?
"I see Ignitus isn't the only one who hasn't changed since I last saw him, good to see you again," Jak said while shaking Hunter's hand.
"You as well Jak, though I can't say the same regarding your attire," Hunter replied upon noticing Jak's wasteland outfit.
"Yeah, we've been through some costume changes to say the least," Daxter added while patting the right side of his new pants, which Hunter could only raise an eye of obscurity to.
"How's everything back home Hunter?" Spyro asked.
"Other than the upheaval of endless discussions going on around Avalar and Warfang regarding your discovery here, it's been quite pleasant," Hunter replied.
"Anything serious?" Keira asked, concerned with the possibility of repercussions from what she was hearing described going on in the Dragon Realms.
"There may have been at first, ever since Pulster and others returned with their report, but Ignitus's involvement through the temple's mystic gem cluster has helped curb some anxiety. Still, I know receiving the full details from all of you will help finish settling the matter," the cheetah answered.
"Then, I guess it's time," Cynder said, everyone now feeling slightly sad that the time of departure had arrived. They all knew it was for the best though, even as Seem stepped up to speak.
"While we may be parting ways right now young dragons, it is not goodbye," she assured them, setting at ease not only Spyro, Cynder, and Sparx, but Jak, Daxter, and Keira.
Seem introduced herself to Hunter before they said goodbye, "I am Seem, head of the Precursor Monk Temple, and Elorin Ambassador to you."
Hunter introduced himself, "Hunter of the Valley of Avalar, acting ambassador of my people to yours ma'am."
"While this meeting is short, I foresee many more in the future, so until next time ambassador, take care."
Hunter bowed as he addressed the groups in between him. The dragons were all off to the chambers right side, with Spyro and Cynder at the lead of them. Jak, Daxter and Keira had rejoined the humans on the left side. Both groups looked at each other wholeheartedly with feelings of mutual respect, before Terrador said his final words, "as we say in our world, may your ancestors look after you."
"May they look after us all," Jak concluded, drawing nods and grins from both groups. Hunter finally led the way back through the portal window, with the dragons following right behind him. Spyro, Cynder and Sparx were first, then Saphira, Cyril, Zaxto, Volteer, Chloro, and Terrador at the tail who halted before the window to turn around one last time. From left to right stood Jak, Daxter, Keira, Calidan, Samos, Onin, Packer, Seem, and Sig silently wishing him well. Jak walked up to the earth guardian to give his final respects.
"Thank you, for everything," Jak thanked wholeheartedly.
"Your father would be proud of you," Terrador said, feeling relieved that his deceased friend's bloodline survived through his son, and who like Spyro, had become his first human friend. The guardian then turned around to enter the gate as Jak took in his words with pride. As soon as Terrador became a blur on the other side, Jak walked up to the Arch's side power junction and set a hand on it, taking back the eco he gave it. The glow from the arch faded away along with the blurred windows, which gave both planetary groups one last look at the other before they disappeared completely.
With their dragon friends safely back home, Calidan had to ask, "so, what do we do now?"
Daxter immediately answered while pointing at him, "what do you think we do? We give you a proper initiation newbie!"
"Who are you calling a newbie!" Calidan yelled back.
"The one who has three adventures now officially added to his belt, whereas you have only one," Daxter replied, jumping down from Jak's shoulder.
"For your information furball, living out here is its own share of adventures, not that you would know anything about that!"
"Now you…" Daxter retorted as the argument began.
As the two of them continued to bicker, Jak had walked over to the others and exhaustively said to them, "and here I thought we found another me, not another Daxter."
"There's a scary thought," Samos droned.
"Give him time, his social skills are practically nonexistent right now. But, Cynder said he can be trained, if made willing to listen," Seem informed.
"Don't suppose she gave you an instruction manual then?" Keira asked jabbing at the rogue wastelander.
"We all have our limits," Seem replied dryly.
"Let's hope they hit theirs real soon," Sig said, gesturing to the two still bickering.
"Ah, there's no place like home," Jak said grinning. Everyone could only laugh to themselves as Calidan and Daxter continued their rant. Between worlds saved, new friends made, and establishing a newfound alliance with an alien world, one could say...life was good.

In the Leaper Lizard pen of the Monk Temple, the lizard mounts were busy sleeping or lounging after finishing their dinner provided by the temple's newest volunteers. Though community service was best to describe Krust and Bore's labor right now as they continued shoveling lizard dung into the nearby trolley. Their punishment of a year long service in the temple for desecrating its halls with gunfire was harsh yet deserving. Of course they couldn't pass up a chance to complain or vent...
"This job stinks, literally!" Krust yelled while throwing another pile into the trolley.
"Yeah well its your fault we're stuck here in the first place!" Bore shouted back to his left while digging in with his own shovel.
"My fault?!" Krust shouted back.
"Yeah, you shot first!" Bore loudly reasoned.
"And you followed!" Krust retaliated.
"Well that's the last time I follow your lead," Bore growled while picking up a pile.
"Lead this!" Krust shouted before throwing his shovel at Bore who just barely ducked, causing the shovel to hit the wall behind, cracking the stone.
"Why you!" Bore lunged for Krust and the two began wrestling each other into a chokehold. But before their pathetic contest concluded, the sound of crumbling rock caused them to pause. The shovel had cracked some unstable rock, which fell away to reveal a small cave in the far wall of the leaper stalls. Their rage turned to curiosity as they stood up to approach the cave. Seeing what was done, Bore couldn't resist ribbing.
"Now look what you've done, you broke the wall," Bore bragged to Krust.
"Idiot! it was already busted, no way I did it myself, it was already weak. Question is..."
Hiiissssss
Krust finished his sentence feeling fearful, "...what...is that?" Bore was feeling the same as the two dimwits kept staring into the cave. Only for thousands of creepy green eyes to emerge from the darkness, and lunge at them with their eight legs!
"AAAAAIIIIIEEEEE!..." Krust and Bore screamed like banshees as they ran in the opposite direction, with dozens of black widow spiders hungrily pursuing them.
well, that should tie up loose ends right? Hehe...also, it felt only right to give Hunter a breif appearance, even if it was only at the very end.
...
That concludes this story, the dragons are back home, and the humans are busy rebuilding their respective cities once again, and the newfound Union Alliance between their worlds has been established. In addition to finally learning the true nature of the precursors, they have also uncovered new mysteries from the arch runes, particularly about the origins of their language. I know a lot of you are wondering, what about Malefor? All I can say right now is...To be determined...
I have had ideas that have been in my head for years about where to go next with this crossover universe I have made, and I hope to write them someday. I can't promise it will be anytime soon, but it will happen one day.
