"C'mon Lara, turn around," Dean Gallagher whispered as he watched the great love of his life, Lara Knight walk down the driveway of the Sydney's Rescue Special Operations centre.

She turned, tears streaked down her face. She smiled and Dean smiled back. Both knowing that they weren't going to give up on each other. Not yet.

Soon enough the boys came out and Dean averted his attention for a couple seconds to answer their questions, by the time he looked back she had disappeared. "So, you coming to the pub?" Vince Marchello asked, slapping Dean on the back.

"Yeah, sounds good. Need a drink after today," Dean replied, as they all made their way down the driveway together.

Dean's House

Lara knew where the spare key was to Dean's place. He told her if she ever needed to get in whether he was there or not, there was a brick loose in the wall that the key was hidden behind. Lara unlocked the door and walked in. She found a notepad and pen and began to write.

Dear Dean,

What you said on the roof today did you mean it?

If so I love you too. I just don't know how to tell you face to face at the moment. I'm sorry. I'm going away for a couple months to figure out myself and where I belong. Please forgive me. I'll be back soon and we can work on us. Please don't give up on me and I won't give up on you.

All my love,

Lara xoxo

Lara finished writing her note when she heard the front door open. She quickly folded it and slipped it under Dean's pillow.

"Hey, whatcha doing here?" Dean asked as Lara approached him.

"Michelle has me on 3 month paid leave. I'm going up north for a while. I'll be back, I promise." Lara said, standing on tip toes to kiss his cheek.

"Will you keep in contact?" He asked eagerly, as he followed her to the car and opening the door.

"I don't know yet Dean, but I will be back. I promise." She said, closing the door and doing the hardest thing she has had to do since letting her Mum go and she drove away from him.

Three Weeks Later

It has been three weeks since Lara left. He found her note under his pillow soon after she left and he has carried it around ever since. Either in his top pocket at work or his wallet elsewhere.

"Guys!" Heidi yelled, as she came barrelling up the stairs. Everyone jumped up thinking something was wrong. Since Lara had left they had become even more protecting of the young woman. They usually had both the girls to worry about.

"You okay?" Dean asked worriedly as they found nothing was physically wrong.

"First time Lara has posted on Instagram since she left," Heidi said, calling the app up on her iPhone and going into Lara's profile.

"She's with some old friends from before she left Uni and came to us. She's on the Gold Coast, she looks good but her smile isn't her genuine smile." Heidi said, as they all scrolled through her pictures. Heidi was right, Lara looked good but her smile wasn't the same.

"She looks good, can't wait to see her when she gets back," Michelle said smiling before disappearing back towards her office where her phone was ringing. No doubt another phone call with the Minister.

Dean ambled back over to his desk and brought up Instagram on his phone and began looking through her recent photos. He looked at the photo they had taken a few months ago. They were at a concert with the rest of the team and Heidi had managed to snap a photo of the two as they looked into each other's eyes with ear to ear smiles.

It was one of his favorite photos.

He just wants her to come home, so they could talk about everything
