"Can you please tell me where we're going?" Sheldon huffed, and Amy knew that if she could see his eyes behind the scarf tied around his head he would be rolling them. "You know I hate surprises."
"Yes," Amy replied patiently as she took her boyfriend by the shoulders and gently guided him off the boat. "But you'll like this one, trust me."
Sheldon's taut, lanky body moved languidly beneath her fingers as he walked, and Amy had to suppress a telltale 'hoo' from escaping her lips. Touching was still such a rarity for them, let alone in public, so she treasured any moment she could get her hands on him.
"Can I take this off now?" Sheldon whined. "Having my vision obstructed makes me forty-two percent more likely to be mugged on the street."
Amy snorted. "I don't think you'll have to worry about that here. Just one second more…" she situated him in just the right position before moving in front of him so she could see his reaction. "Okay, now."
Sheldon carefully untied the cloth, and upon taking in the sight before him his mouth dropped so far and his eyes gleamed so bright it was absolutely worth all the twists and turns and backtracks to throw Sheldon off the scent. "Disneyland!"
"Not just Disneyland," Amy reminded him with a grin at his childlike excitement. "It's Tom Sawyer's Island. Now we can play hide-and-seek like you wanted."
His head snapped towards her, brows furrowed in a way which puzzled her. "Oh, I don't wanna do that."
That was not an answer Amy was expecting. "But that's what you suggested doing at the ballgame."
"Because anything was better than watching Wolowitz outrageously and publicly humiliate himself. If I wanted to witness that, I would just visit the engineering department at work." Sheldon peered up into the sky as he got that faraway look in his eyes. "The last time I played hide-and-seek was with Georgie and Missy when I was four. I hid in the washing machine and my mother, unbeknownst that I was inside, chucked in a load of dirty unmentionables and started it up. The world didn't stop spinning for two days."
"Oh." The disappointment on Amy's face was clearly obvious to anybody; she just wanted to make her boyfriend happy, excite him and show just how much she cared. This was not obvious to Sheldon, of course, but the fact that he was tilting his head to the side and giving her the most curious look showed that he knew something was up.
"Alright," Amy said brightly, hoping to perk him up again and distract from her sadness. "So what do you want to do?"
Sheldon frowned in thought, glancing down at the scarf still in his hands. Then he slowly raised his gaze back to Amy's, a sly grin slowly overtaking his features.
Before Amy could ask, Sheldon had strode over and whipped his girlfriend around and wrapped the scarf around her head this time. "Well, Amy Farrah Fowler," he breathed in her ear. "I've always been fond of Blind Man's Bluff."
Amy couldn't stop the shudder crawling up her spine if she tried. Was Sheldon, her innocent, straightforward, aromantic Sheldon… flirting with her?
He was gone in an instant, and Amy immediately missed the warmth his body heat just behind her provided. She reached out hesitantly in front of her, then quickly jerked around only to grab nothing but air. Where was he?
She felt a sudden tap on her shoulder, and she twisted her body towards the source only to come up with nothing once again. Then there was a playful push at her back and a moment later the breathy laughter of her boyfriend from the distance.
Oh it was on.
The two giggled like schoolchildren as they chased each other around the island, Amy sometimes feeling a teasing touch from her target, other times being jerked to the side in a way that she knew was Sheldon navigating her around some unknown obstacle. Her heart warmed at the thought of him protecting and keeping her safe, even somewhere as unthreatening as Disneyland.
It had been a while since Sheldon had hinted at where he was, and Amy found herself turning around and around until she was dizzy in search of him. "Sheldon?"
A pair of gangly arms threw themselves around her and pulled her back until she hit something soft yet firm at the same time. Wrapped like a cocoon around her, Amy could practically feel his smirk as he murmured, "Gotcha. I win."
She bit back a smile. "I don't think that's how the game goes."
"I like this way better."
Amy pulled the scarf down to her neck as she turned her head to face her boyfriend, choosing her next words carefully. "Not that I'm complaining, at all, but what's gotten into you?"
Sheldon's lids were at half-mast as he gazed down at her. "Just… thanking you. For today." His gulp was almost imperceptible, but it was a gulp nevertheless. "For every day."
They stayed that way for who knows how long, not caring that they were surrounded by screaming children and disapproving parents. Sheldon licked his lips, eyes spelling out what he wanted but wasn't ready to do in this kind of environment. But Amy knew just what to do.
"Sheldon…"
But then her face broke into a grin as she pulled the scarf over her head and shoved it over her unsuspecting boyfriend's. "You're it."
