I hope everyone is keeping safe during these dystopian times. As there's nothing better to do, I thought I would revisit my childhood memories by writing this fanfic, an idea which has been brewing for some time. And I mean, my childhood being the actual Teen Titans cartoon back in the 2000s, not the Teen Titans Go GARBAGE (sorry, not sorry to those fans who actually like that crap)!

If you could, please review. I need all the motivation I can get right now and you would help me tons if you could review – constructive criticism is also welcomed!

So be prepared for lots of angst, fluff, and plot…

The Knight of Death

Chapter 1

A Tranquil 'T'

Where: Titans Tower

When: May

The darkening clouds of nightfall loomed over Jump City. Residents were busy commuting home. Car horns were beeping and trains were rattling. Yet, what really makes this city unique, were not its everyday citizens… far from it. What makes Jump City unique, you ask? Well, if you scan the city's skyline, especially if the sun's rays are slowly falling below the horizon, like they were on that day, a 'T' stands guard and overlooks the entire population of Jump City. On that particular day, the 'T's' striking silhouette was emphasized by the grey clouds and the orange sunset. The unusual building was located on an unusual island and was inhabited by an unusual group of teens. And in the building that day, unusual events were taking place. The tower was quiet. For once. There were no bad guys pounding through the glass and steel. No shattering of fists pounding on their flesh as inevitably, the Titans would always kick their butts straight out of their home. It was peaceful. Calm.

"Easy Cyborg." Robin said steadily, adopting his calm leader voice, as he attempted to diffuse the tension, which had permeated its way through each and every one of his teammates.

"I know Rob." Cyborg could feel a bead of sweat (or oil he wasn't sure) trickle down his forehead.

"I can't watch!" Beast Boy quickly transformed into a turtle and buried his head into his shell. Now oblivious to the doom which was about to follow.

"Well, we can be thankful Beast Boy isn't the one performing the task." Raven's signature monotone drawl caused Beast Boy to slide his head out of his shell, stick his tongue out at her, and slip his head back into his shell. Raven raised a perfectly trimmed eyebrow, for a second she contemplated about throwing Beast Boy against the wall, but decided against it, as she couldn't be bothered to waste her energy, and continued reading her book.

"Oh, friends this is too awful, why don't we play the game of the dodge?" Starfire's innocent request was quickly refuted by a glare from Raven, and a visible cringe from both Cyborg and Robin, and a small chuckle from Beast Boy, who had resumed his human form.

"Because last time we played dodgeball, Star, BB decided to play using stink bombs." Robin said, matter-of-factly.

"Guys, I can't concentrate." Cyborg narrowed his eyes. This was it! He was moving the target. He was going to make it-!

A sudden thump from across the room sent tremors ricocheting along the ground like deadly waves towards the team. Starfire, BB and Cyborg all cried out in horror, as their ten-foot giant Jenga tower crashed to the floor. Robin sighed with frustration. Raven smiled a small smile. She could go back to the peace of her bedroom, for the trivial games (or the team building exercise as Robin had put it earlier) were clearly over. They all glanced over towards the source of their misfortune. Terra grinned sheepishly, her blonde hair covered one side of her face as if she was trying to hide her embarrassment.

"Er… what's shakin' guys?"

Cyborg slid a weary hand down his face. "We almost had our Jenga record beaten!"

"Terra didn't mean anything by it, right Terra." Beast Boy's face reddened as Terra smiled at him. Then she glanced apologetically at the other Titans.

"'M sorry, I went out for a walk."

"You know Terra, you should join us more for Game night." Robin said, smiling gently at the newest Teen Titan, "We could use some more brains on the team." He grinned as he nodded over to Beast Boy, whose face now looked like a tomato.

"Hey, to be as funny as I am, you need a brain like mine." He winked at Terra, who giggled in response. Raven eyed Terra's reaction quietly behind her book, and muttered under her breath,

"So not a clever one then." Raven drawled.

Beast Boy promptly turned back into a turtle. Starfire laughed and flew over to Terra, swiftly drawing her into an excited hug. "Oh friend Terra, perhaps you know what game we should play next, we could play the x of the box, or the station of the play, or we could play the board game that has the colonel with the mustard!"

"Can't breathe." Terra panted. Now it was Starfire's turn to blush as she let go of her friend, who took steady gulps as air rushed back into her lungs.

"And don't worry Star, you can be Colonel Mustard if we play Cluedo." Robin said, smiling as Starfire flew happily into the air.

"Of course he would let his girlfriend have her choice." Cyborg muttered to Beast Boy, who was still in turtle form, laughed a throaty turtle laugh. Robin quickly shot a nasty glare towards Cyborg, who simply waggled his eyebrows in retaliation, and smiled knowingly.

"It's okay, guys, really, I think I'm going to hit the hay. I was just coming in here to get some food."

"Pizza in the house!" Cyborg shouted, prompting Beast Boy to change into a salivating, slobbering dog. "Ugh, BB, no dog drawl on the couch!" Cyborg protested; Beast Boy barked in response.

"That's okay, I don't know if I'm well enough for pizza, maybe tomorrow."

Robin frowned underneath his mask as Terra crouched behind the counter, rummaging in the fridge for food he knew was properly too bad to eat.

"Are you okay, Terra?" Robin asked, puzzled as Terra managed to find some carrot sticks from the fridge which weren't covered in slimy purple goo from Starfire's Tamaranean berry juice.

"Yeah, yeah… just got a sore stomach that's all, I'll see you guys for training tomorrow."

"Do you think it's the month thing girls get?" Beast Boy whispered to Cyborg, who stared at the green shapeshifter incredulously.

"Not appropriate, BB." Cyborg hissed quietly, so Terra wouldn't hear.

"See you tomorrow then." Robin relented his questions for now, he would figure out why Terra suddenly had become more withdrawn than usual, just not tonight.

"Night Terra!" Beast Boy shouted; Cyborg put earplugs in his ears.

"Night friend." Starfire giggled.

"See you around." Raven muttered.

"Thanks guys. See you tomorrow." Terra waved, and grinning, she turned on her heals and walked out of the room, shutting the door loudly behind her, which caused the Jenga pieces to rattle.

"What's up with her do you think?" Cyborg asked Robin, as he took his earplugs out of his ears.

Robin put his closed hand underneath his chin. "I'm not sure." He glanced at Beast Boy, whose eyes were drooping with concern, "But I'm sure she's fine." Robin lightened his tone as he clapped his hands, becoming their leader once again.

"Alright, who wants pizza?!"

"Booyah!" Cyborg cried, pulling out a telephone from his robotic armour. "Meat deluxe extreme feast pizza, here I come!"

"Dude, those are animals you are killing."

"BB, for the last time, I don't care."

"You're eating my friends."

"If that means I get my meatballs and bacon, I'm good with that."

Beast Boy and Cyborg continued to banter for a good while before Raven decided to call the pizza company herself. Robin shook his head, smiling at his friends' silliness. It had never been this warm back in Wayne Manor. Here, they could still be teenagers. They could still be relatively normal kids arguing about what foods they should eat, and what games they should play. He would never let anything bad happen to them. For they weren't just his team, they were his family. He glanced at Starfire, who had flown towards the kitchen and was retrieving her daily serving of mustard – five bottles of the stuff! Robin grinned, he was lucky, nothing would ever break his family apart.

Terra breathed a sigh of relief after she shut the door. She trembled as she took her communicator out from her pocket. She couldn't keep doing this. The constant pretending. The constant act of trying to please those weirdoes. Those betrayers. Her hand shook sharply as she dialled the number. She clasped her other hand around her wrist to steady it as she held the communicator up to her ear. Then why did she feel this way? Why could she feel nothing else but guilt?

"Report."

She closed her eyes. His silky, smooth voice penetrated her eardrums. The voice always made her feel queasy. She never understood why.

"There are no new developments, I have already identified all of their strengths and weaknesses, I'm not sure what else I can…"

"And Robin, does he suspect anything?"

It was always Robin this, and Robin that. Terra felt a twang of jealousy flood through her heart. She steadied her hand as she took a deep breath.

"Terra."

"No Sl… Master. He doesn't." She lied. She was certain he was the least bit suspecting that something was up, but she was going to prove to Slade that Robin does not matter to them, or their future plans.

"Good." He paused, as though contemplating his next words, then, after a few seconds, he said, "It's time. We strike tonight."

Terra let out a deep breath. Finally, the wait was over. Finally, she would no longer be pretending. Finally, she was going to kill those Titans one by one.

"Leave Robin alive, but kill the others, just like we agreed."

Terra felt her stomach curl. Slade's orders were clear but why did he want to fight Robin? Robin was nothing compared to her power. "But Master-"

"Know your place, Apprentice." Deathstroke hissed into the communicator, the order was harsh. Abrupt. It felt like Terra was receiving a bite from a poisonous snake, painful and sudden.

"Yes, Master." Terra said, reluctantly, she knew the conversation was over. "Terra out."

As the communicator went dead, Terra felt her life flash before her eyes. Guilt threatened to throw her mind off balance. Guilt threatened to worm its way into her heart like a parasite. She was going to play the plan out just like they had discussed. But, before she could fully contemplate what she was about to do, there was a sharp knock at her door.
