First A.U Arc!

The Russian Demo happened on July 1st on the Canon Timeline but I moved it here because both Touma and Mikoto-chan need to get away from Academy City for a while. Of course because Accelerator is dead.

Be mindful that I've created a completely A.U Russia after the Cold War for my story. So if I miscounted republics and oblasts it's purely intentional. There is no Putin here.

This arc is all in preparation for my version of World War III when we get to it.

This Arc introduces at lot of A.U characters that are on top of the Government as well as explores a bit of the more leftover side-characters such as Vasilisa and the Patriarch. There is a lot of Worldbuilding for both Academy City and A.U Russia.

The whole Russian saga: Moscow, Elizalina and Shopping Mall will have a lot of gore!

Next chapters are already available on my page.

Don't forget to follow or favorite if you want to be alerted to new chapters!

I hope you enjoy.

Russian Demo — Moscow — I
X❖X

"Eh, so Misaka-san is going to do a week-long demonstration in Russia of all places."

Saten Ruiko said as she sipped her cold drink. She grabbed her long skirt, making an outline of her bottom curves as she sat down on her seat on the Family Restaurant, Uiharu stumbled into her as they moved, so their cheeks touched. Uiharu got all embarrassed as she picked her drink with both hands and sat next to Ruiko.

Shirai Kuroko was sitting there with her miniskirt revealing most of her toned legs and on her thighs were a pair of black leather straps, tightly wound around the creamy thighs holding metal spikes, she wore the usual Tokiwadai summer uniform with both the shirt as well as the summer brown vest sweater over her shirt.

"Yes, Onee-sama is often called for demonstrations outside Academy City."

Kuroko sipped her drink with her pink lips and then sighed. Mikoto would be gone for a whole week and she wouldn't be able to see her Onee-sama during that time, thankfully they could still communicate via phone. Academy City's phones were very powerful indeed, even able to use carriers from overseas without their knowledge... It was due to that that she held on for now. Not even she could cross the Pacific Ocean without tiring halfway through the voyage. So Kuroko would have to remain behind.

"So that's why she was so happy this morning." Uiharu replied, happily drinking the soft cold drink which was green in color and carbonated with soft bubbles rising.

"Well, that's…"

Shirai Kuroko stopped on her own words, her Onee-sama's good mood was likely because someone, most likely that shabby gentleman saved her. She even cried of happiness and relief during her own sleep.

How much suffering did her Onee-sama take on herself during these past few weeks?

Kuroko cursed her own inaction and inability to help. Kuroko did not even know the nature of the problem her Onee-sama was having and still to this day she did not know what was happening.

Saten Ruiko was interested in this demonstration talk, because on the news, there weren't anything interesting going on.

The only incidents passing there were a melted iron bridge with its asphalt destroyed. And a train yard that was completely destroyed.

There were some loud noises outside that night however somehow the streets were empty.

The official story was that a group of criminals were able to steal some weapons from a facility in district 15 and that Anti-Skill had an awfully hard time facing them.

No other information had been released other than that the criminals all died in the exchange at the train yard. And that the information on their identity wasn't released because they were minors.

Her friends Kuroko and Uiharu worked at a Judgement branch which was the student's side of the Judicial system of Academy City.

The two enforcer groups that existed and were famous were the Anti-Skill, headed by adults and primarily teachers, then there was Judgment, headed by students with Esper powers that could combat dangerous situations.

The two branches had their obvious hierarchy, so basically, Judgment handled the every-day stuff and could arrest individuals and send them to Anti-Skill. However when the criminals weren't students or when things got out of hand then Anti-Skill would come in and act as the primary enforcing force of Academy City.

Even when students with Esper powers above Level 2 had the same power as a person with a handgun or a rifle. The officers of Anti-Skill were trained and ready to combat even them.

However things got extremely muddled when an Esper got past Level 3 and into Level 4 territory.

They could not be considered the same anymore. Her friend Shirai Kuroko was a Level 4, and she was ten times what a battalion of Anti-Skill officers could ever be.

When speaking about powers, a Level 5 is often brought as the most powerful people in the City. However there were only 7 of them. The Level 5 worship often made people blind to the rare but still varied population of the Level 4s.

Sure, a Level 4 could never beat a Level 5.

This was intrinsically true.

Her friend Shirai-san was eleven worlds below in terms of power, combat, skill, and everything else when it came to power when compared to someone so insane and godlike like Misaka-san was. The distance between them was greater than the distance between the Earth and the Sun.

However when not compared to Level 5s, Shirai Kuroko was so above everyone else it wasn't even funny.

To say simpler things. Ruiko did not think that there was anyone else that could beat Shirai-san other than Misaka-san herself. To everyone else, even the Level 3s, it was like measuring the distance between the Earth and the Moon. That's how far removed Shirai-san was above everyone else.

Another easy power comparison would be to think that the Level 5s were the 'billionaires' of the world, while the Level 4s were the 'millionaires'.

Of course, it doesn't mean they all had that kind of money, it was just a power comparison using the simplest terms.

Misaka-san was certainly very well off but Ruiko never saw her buying companies left and right. Shirai-san seemed even richer than Misaka-san at first glance since the Teleporter was the daughter of a Shipping Magnate.

To say simpler things. Level 4s which were more numerous, were still utterly insane when not being compared to the Level 5s.

The only reason Anti-Skill was able to go against a Level 4 was combat inexperience of their opponents, detailed information on their abilities and weaknesses and greater numbers and specialized equipment.

Though Ruiko was still sadly a Level 0, powerless. And that was the situation of 40% of the population of students.

"So how often does Misaka-san goes on these demonstrations?"

Ruiko took a bite of her dessert and blushed at how good it was.

"Often, two or three times per year. Onee-sama's been to a variety of places. Including South Korea. Australia and New Zealand. France and Germany and those are the one Onee-sama talked to me about."

"Heeh, she's so lucky, she gets to go on all these amazing foreign places." Saten replied.

Academy City's student body often did not have that luxury, most of the cases, the students stayed on this city and did not leave.

There was a fear that other countries might spirit the students away for their own crazy research, the student's body would be dissected to see how the Esper power system worked so that that country could replicate the Esper program.

Or so the horror story went.

It was a boogieman tale for students, most likely passed down from above. Therefore most students did not leave Japan, or did not even leave Academy City's walls, and if they did, there were strict rules to be followed.

Of course, the higher the level the stricter the rules. So someone like Saten Ruiko had a much easier time getting permission to leave for a country-only vacation with her parents than someone like Shirai Kuroko who was a Level 4 Teleporter.

X❖X

The Cold War was a period of geopolitical tension between the Soviet Union and the United States and their respective allies. during the ending of the Cold War, Academy City itself flourished as a technological marvel of the modern world and pulled the rug form below the two superpowers.

The term cold was used because there was no large-scale conflicts between the two superpowers who were at odds with each other however they supported regional conflicts known as proxy wars. The conflict was based around ideological and geopolitical struggle for global influence by the two powers not knowing that in the far eastern country known as Japan a singular being was creating something larger behind the scenes.

Aside from the nuclear Arsenal development and conventional military deployment, the struggle for dominance was expressed via indirect methods such as psychological warfare, propaganda, espionage, far-reaching embargoes, and all sorts of rivalries ranging from sports to food and other basic things.

Dissolution of the Soviet Union was a tenuous process starting with the disintegration within the USSR, which began with their citizens protesting against that country itself, some say that Russian Orthodox Church was the primary drive that overturned the old regime.

With it on the South part of Russia bordering the European Union and spanning the length until the border with China. different ideological groups that lived in the region started rebelling against the USSR by themselves and were not led by the Russian Orthodoxy. They became independent countries that had small scale conflicts with the Soviet Union and later the Russian Government that was to follow as well with Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and China on the south borders of these independent countries.

Thus with the arrival of a single woman that was able to make alliances with these different countries on South Russia she was able to form the Elizalina Alliance of Independent Nations and with that woman's political strength she was able to grasp for herself the full control over the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea.

On the western side of Russia a 1991 Coup led by the military was foiled. That led to the government in Moscow losing most of its influence, and many republics proclaiming independence in the following days and months. The secession of the Baltic states, the first to declare their sovereignty and then their full independence, was recognized in September 1991.

On the most insidious side of things the Russian Orthodox Church which had already spread its influence over the population of Russia and gathered their support started infiltrating the government itself. And the Russian Orthodoxy gathered an iron hand influence over the top decision-making rules of the country.

While not official, Kremlin itself was being controlled by the Russian Orthodoxy from the shadows.

However the Patriarch was not fully in control of Russia itself, even when unofficially the Presidents of Russia since then had their candidatures decided by the Church and their decision-making was guided by them.

The truth was that the Patriarch did not have full control over even his own Church, some elements were in clear opposition of the Patriarch's every decision. And the Patriarch could not eliminate the contentions elements within his own group.

There were also groups ranging from ex-KGB operatives that now served in the Federal Security Service and the Foreign Intelligence Service who on the front served Kremlin were primed and ready to sink their teeth into the Patriarch of the Russian Orthodoxy if the leader of the Church showed any weakness.

There were also different sects, ranging from Druidism beliefs, some Agnostic and some Atheistic belief rising within the new generation that was in clear opposition to the Russian Orthodoxy belief system.

The Russian Orthodox Church today could not boast the same stronghold it had back in 1991 when the Cold War ended.

So while the Patriarch ruled Russia from the shadows. There were still various elements that could not be erased; therefore the Russian Orthodoxy did not have full control over Kremlin and the Government itself.

Misaka Mikoto arrived on District 23 with her cute pink baggage being dragged by wheels, the baggage had many Gekota stickers on it, making a crazy pattern that she adored.

School District 23 was a unique school district that specialized in aeronautical and astrological engineering. Beside civilian aircraft this place is where the fighter jets and other protectors of Academy city's airspace as well as unmanned helicopters were developed. Half of the district was their runways satellite launch areas with high perimeters guarding them.

"No matter how many times I see it, this district is insane."

She strolled forward with her Tokiwadai uniform, she had to wear it everywhere, even in official functions of Academy City, however official functions in Foreign countries were different.

She had to wear the designated uniform that the Board of Directors chose for her.

After all she was the shiny toy on display for the world to see.

Normally it was a bright white or bright blue dress with a band so that showed her naked shoulders.

Mikoto sighed, it was like she was a in an underage beauty pageant and the sweaty old men of the Board of Directors chose what she would wear. Except she would be performing in a foreign stage, and most likely she would be interviewed, and the footage would be shown worldwide.

Mikoto met with the pilots of the black jet outside in the runway. They were leaving Academy City at 2:00 P.M. and would be arriving there at 4:00 P.M.

Not because the jet was that fast as to cross the entire Eastern hemisphere. No, this was a luxurious jet that offered the greatest amenities and luxury only available for high-paying customers or celebrities. The reason that only two hours would pass was because of the Time Zone difference between Academy City and Moscow. The flight was a direct one scheduled for 8 hours in total.

Mikoto arrived at the foot of the airplane and was walking with her belongings as the pilots went ahead and entered the cockpit.

She was about to walk up the stairs when someone who was on top of the stairs arrived and bowed fully.

"Misaka-sama, we have been eagerly awaiting your arrival."

The one who welcomed her was a lady with brown-hair wrapped into a bun, she wore a modified flight attendant's uniform to be as revealing and sexy as possible, with the skirt and the shirt being as skintight as possible. Then as she raised her body, the massive breasts jiggled impressively. Both were like giant watermelons attached and with the soft clothing they enticed any member of the other gender.

Mikoto looked down at her budding breasts beneath her vest and she felt the world crumbling around her.

The flight attendant had a brilliant red lipstick and had beautiful make up on her gentle face as she led Mikoto, who was defeated by the crushing difference in bust sizes, inside of the airplane. Then as Mikoto stared forward at the woman leading her, she saw the lines of her butt on her tight skirt as the attendant moved her hips side to side, she was swaying her hips as if it were something natural to do.

I think they mistook what kind of attendant I want. This would entice any male guest and customer of course, but she wasn't a man, she was a girl who was slightly curious about a certain idiot one year above her age. I'm not some sex-crazed male billionaire.

However Mikoto thanked the heavens Touma wasn't here, from spending days and days with him this summer she learned one simple truth, he had some constant gravitational pull that only attracted women on the first time meeting him. Normal everyday women and teenager girls would drop everything and become hopeless in his presence, and even elementary school girls would suddenly promise to marry him when they got older.

It was the strangest thing and the creepiest thing she ever saw happening in those days she spent with him.

And the weirdest part was that even from a simple 10-minute interaction with him, the girls would not forget who he was, ever. It didn't matter if you were married, it didn't matter if you already had a significant other, it didn't even matter if you had other sexual preferences. Every women Mikoto saw at that time made the same 'gogogaga' eyes at him and they were extremely physical with him, to the point of almost being considered sexual harassment.

However even when women literally molested him on the side of the street, he remained normal, as if that was the usual for him and he was already accustomed to it.

If it had breasts and a vagina, then they would be ensnared.

Almost like some hypnosis from some bad porn or some strange disease.

The point being if Touma was here, that woman would be already ensnared just from looking at him and would have instantly tried to flirt and molest him.

Thankfully, I'm immune to his strange disease. Mikoto puffed her non-existent breast forward with pride.

—She couldn't just admit that she was infected by that same disease way back then.

Three comfortable leather chairs, a large sofa, a king-sized bed, a giant micro LED screen. There was a bathroom, transparent shower partition and a giant bath open to the room itself. The tables were made of black marble and were pristine with baskets full of succulent fruits.

"Wow, you don't see stuff like this every day."

Mikoto whispered, she had been in such luxurious planes before, but never one with a bath. One needed to know that she, Mikoto could not afford such luxury when travelling, the best she could afford was business class. This was all out of the pocket of those at the top of Academy City.

The attendant bowed again as she extended an arm into the massive one-room of the plane. That motion made the lady's big bouncy breasts jiggle hypnotically again, making Mikoto feel painfully self-conscious.

Mikoto entered the room and closed the door. Most likely there would be no further in-person chat until the time for dinner came.

A demonstration again. There was a lot of frustration when things like these happened in her life.

At least there was one demonstration that she did. The one she did in France where she saw her father. Her father was always busy overseas, and that chance meeting was one she couldn't predict.

She put her luggage on the bed and retrieved the dress they prepared for her and displayed it on the bed. A bright white dress with a blue jewel decoration on the breast part. It was a shoulder-less strap so it would enhance Mikoto's beauty. Willing or not, she had a meeting with the governing body of Russia and then a national pre-demo interview before tomorrow's show in Moscow.

She rested her body on the chair and breathed in.

Right now there aren't any news about yesterday's incident. And this elaborate ploy of a demonstration came about because of yesterday's incidents, or did it come about the incidents that happened the day before or even those that happened on the night of the 16th?

It could be because of Accelerator's death, but she wasn't the one who killed the bastard and there were no eye-witness nor electronics recordings of the fight.

Mikoto unfortunately had been sleeping until midday due to her tiredness over the past few weeks so she hadn't had the time to investigate any rumors.

So maybe this strategic demonstration had come about because she was sniffing around the dead bodies of ITEM, the governing body had decided to use the body of Mugino and Takitsubou for something nefarious because Mikoto didn't realize at the time that vaporizing a Level 5 body was necessary.

She could find solace in the fact that Accelerator would not be used for anything else ever again. She was the one who vaporized his remains.

However… The #4 still concerned her.

And I will be spending a week in a foreign country with no way of picking up the trail. It's growing colder and colder.

Unfortunately Mikoto could not do anything about that now. Academy City got a point over her again.

The pilots voice arrived in her ears through the communications. It was time to take-off.

Her seat was positioned so that she could see the giant screen. And as the plane took off with a pleasant feel, the TV turned on. The screen was black beside the icon in the center saying, 'VOICE ONLY'.

"Good Afternoon Misaka Mikoto-san, we of the Governing Board shall now explain in detail the rules and restrictions placed upon you during your Russian Demonstration, as well as go in depth over your stay at Russia..."

… It was always like this. They always gave off lectures whenever she travelled overseas, she was the great representative of the Esper population of Academy City.

These demonstrations were always about showing off their might to the world. Showing that they achieved the supernatural through the scientific method by displaying what an Esper could do. Drawing in money and greedy businessmen, investors, banks and billionaires to the jaws of Academy City where the city would either eat them alive or to survive, they would fall in line and assimilate with the City's mindset, never again to look at the outside world, to know that only that City mattered.

And finally showing the massive benefits of sending children to Academy City for their scholarly developments. Enticing children or the parent to send their kids to the open jaws of Academy City.

The merits were too large to ignore, everything in Academy City was thirty years more advanced than anywhere else… Even the standard curriculum not involved in Esper knowledge was advanced.

It was not an exaggeration to say that freshmen high school students were smarter than graduating college-level students from other parts of the world. Every step of the education was higher than anything else in the world which meant that your child would have the best education even if she or he did not have the talent for Esper abilities, and the other thing.

The Esper development was something parents could not feasibly ignore… having your child have a supernatural advantage over others was something that spurned non-religious parents on… Having your child with powers like in a comic book was something that could not be ignored.

Of course there were the conspiracy nuts and religious nuts that said the Esper development power would kill their children and whatnot.

Using Mikoto's experience as a measuring stick, it was not far off from the truth.

This city was ripe with conspiracies all around making the children's lives unbearable or completely hopeless sometimes.

Of course there were hundreds of thousands of children there who would never witness a cruel incident in their lives.

However, those who were touched by the darkness of that City, those that truly witnessed its jaws would never truly be able to unsee or go ignorant with their lives and live out in the brightness. Misaka Mikoto knew the incredible deep depths of Academy's City's cruelty and even as she lived in the brightness, she knew she had been touched, her naked body had been corrupted by it, every crevasse of her slender body was dirtied by blood and cruelty, of others and herself.

"…You shall meet some members of their government and then there will be an interview. Just to make sure, you will be visiting Western Russia, the Elizalina Alliance of Independent Nations and our own Institute settled in Eastern Russia."

So now, she was hearing the Governing Board's speech through a secure channel as they crossed the country still.

If this was three weeks back, she might have nodded to their every word. But she now knew, the ones sitting behind that monitor, speaking so calmly, were her enemies.

The ones that gave the go-ahead for such an insane experiment were them. She was much obliged to them for birthing her adorable and lovely sisters, however the thanks stopped there.

Mikoto clenched her teeth.

If the Level 4s were the 'Millionaires'.

If the Level 5s were the 'Billionaires'.

Then each member Governing Board was as important as a 'Prime Minister'.

And unlike other countries, there were no bribes or promises a billionaire could give to politicians. In Academy City only threats, violence and suffering between the Level 5s and the Governing Board worked.

And the Governing Board knew her weaknesses intimately. Her sisters, and her precious friends.

Any movement against them had to be calculated. Therefore, right now she would be the obedient dog going on a foreign country to do a little demonstration for them.

"For the duration of your stay in Western Russia you shall be accompanied by and stay with the Russian Orthodox Church."

"Wait… why does a Church come up in a scientific demonstration?"

"It was the only concession that the Russian government asked of us, we had no reason to refuse. During your stay you shall be accommodated in the Russian Orthodox Church's Headquarters. The so-called Danilov Monastery. When you're out exploring the city you shall be accompanied by their Patriarch Krans R. Tsarskiy. And with your stay in the Independent Nations you shall be accompanied by their Regent, Elizalina herself and you shall be accommodated in her Palace. Of course during your stay at our institute you will be accommodated in the best hotel of that city."

In other excursions in Europe, she had been given official accommodations by the Government of that Country. And true, she had met many a ruler of a country during her demonstrations. However she never thought she would spend her nights on a Church and a Palace of all things.

Patriarch Krans-san and Regent Elizalina-san, huh?

One was the leader of a Church of Christianity, presiding over 200 million followers. And the other was a regent of an Alliance of Nations totaling the population to about 178 million.

I wonder what they are like?

"… During your time there, you are not to reveal your technology manipulation and do not reveal the power of the #4 in the demonstrations outside of our Institute…"

Mikoto almost coughed.

So they know about it and say it to my face, the bastards.

However their wording is key, to not reveal them in either the demo or outside, so she could use them if she was sure that the government of Russia could not witness it.

"… Do not reveal your Railgun in the demonstrations, you only need to make an electrical show of both lightning and thunder for the audience. And again, you must be accompanied by the Patriarch at all times while on your free time while on Western Russia. And the same goes for the Regent of Elizalina Nations. Other than these restrictions you are free to do as pleased."

"I see…"

They must have known about the killings, and yet they did not arrest her, so that's how the world had spun. There was virtually no restriction on her whatsoever on what she could do in Academy City's Russian Institution. And if she thought well, her only restrictions were related to the demo on what Academy City wanted to show. And to be accompanied by some Priest and some Regent all day and sleep on a monastery and a palace...

There was no restrictions upon killing people she disagreed with in secret.

She was no stranger to conflict in foreign countries, in fact she learned to expect it, there were always some group of extremists or some secret government group that wanted to nab or kill her. She was a prized Level 5, a great targets for the insane people and a great target for governments who wanted to know the secrets behind the Esper development.

Any security detail she had on her was arbitrarily decided by the foreign nations she visited, it meant that only the visiting country actually cared to put some 'protection' on her person. Academy City never ever put a bodyguard with her. She was always alone on the other side of the world without any Academy City's help.

That meant that Academy City was supremely confident in Mikoto's power as an Esper or they did not care if they lost her.

She was more inclined to believe in the former, now that both the #1 and #4 died, they couldn't squander more Level 5s or they would really lose influence.

"…This is all from us, I hope you have a pleasant stay in Russia, Misaka Mikoto-san."

The man behind the TV said the name of the country with such disparagement, she wondered if he had some sort of xenophobia. But of course they had, and it wasn't just limited to Russia and other countries, even Japan was included on the list.

Everything that wasn't Academy City was met with derision by those folks.

When one basks in the holy grail of progress and technology, everything else looks like trash in comparison.

The connection was cut by them and she finally relaxed. The TV turned dark again, and she did not have the drive to turn it on. She just wanted to rest.

Mikoto took off her seatbelt as the plane was already stabilized in the sky. And then she threw herself on the couch and then closed her eyes to a light nap.

If she had turned the TV on, she would have seen some interesting news coming out of Academy City.

X❖X

"A concerning announcement has been given to us this afternoon. Last night Anti-Skill confirmed the death of the #1 Level 5 Esper, Accelerator-san. That means there is only six Level 5 Espers in Academy City at the current time."

Saten Ruiko's drink dropped and slipped on the table. Both Uiharu and Shirai did not comment because they were all intensely staring at the news, in fact, everybody in the restaurant was glued to the TV and its announcer with gaping jaws and widened eyes.

A Level 5, died?

That was such an alien statement, nobody knew how to process it.

"Therefore the rankings have been changed and here is the list:

The #1 Level 5 Esper is now Kakine Teitoku-san.

The #2 Level 5 Esper is now Misaka Mikoto-san.

The #3 Level 5 Esper is now Mugino Shizuri-san.

The #4 Level 5 Esper is now Shokuhou Misaki-san.

The #5 Level 5 Esper is now Aihana Etsu-san.

The #6 Level 5 Esper is now Sogiita Gunha-san."

"T—This is surprising news isn't it Daichi-san, to have one of the top level Espers die so suddenly."

"Yes, that's right Suzume-san, all of our Espers are children at the end of the day, a news like that is tragic."

Without any concern on what the viewers were thinking the commentators on the news continued as normal. The news continued as they brought new commentators and reactionists, as well as interviewed some experts and some of the law-and-enforcement.

However the culprit had even Anti-Skill stumped, there was literally no clue to latch onto, most likely the culprit would never be discovered with their investigation.

Shirai Kuroko was reminded of something.

"I'm sorry, I need to talk to Misaka Mikoto, is this her room?"

A boy had arrived on the dorms, he was a shabby gentleman who was more akin to a delinquent and a punk wannabe. She was surprised that with his build he was still fifteen years of age, just one year above her Onee-sama. She recalled that he had been meeting with her Onee-sama on the two weeks where Onee-sama was all stressed. Uiharu and Saten all said that she was meeting a boy and that's why she never returned to the dorms at that time, but she wasn't just skipping the curfew, she was also skipping classes. Kuroko was extremely worried at that time and this shabby gentleman was a person that could have known what had happened.

Of course Kuroko took the courage to invite him into the dorms, she wanted to know. She wanted to be of help, even if the world her Onee-sama lived in was so far away from her.

"I'm sorry, I can't talk about what's going on, but I promise I'll bring Misaka back safe and sound and with a smile on her face."

He put one step on the opened window, he had a black cat on his arm and he had some papers with him, and yet she could not make what was on it. She implored him, implored him to say what was going on, however he denied her and stopped her on her tracks by knocking her out with a light chop on the back of her neck that she could not even perceive.

He had known that she would trail after him when he went out and knocked her out to protect her? Her, a seasoned member of Judgement?

Were her skills and experience wholly insufficient?

The answer was obvious, she couldn't even perceive his strike and was instantly defeated without any chance for a reaction.

And… And Kuroko knew that if Onee-sama was ever serious she could do similar things to Kuroko despite having such an overwhelming power called teleportation.

Kuroko knew that if Shirai Kuroko and Misaka Mikoto ever fought, the battle would be over immediately without any questions to who the victor would be.

If her Onee-sama was having trouble and that shabby gentleman was able to walk in the same plane of existence as that all-powerful girl.

Then… Then Kuroko was really not needed.

All she could ever do was receive her Onee-sama back home. Kuroko could not even begin to meddle in her Onee-sama's personal problems.

After all, to a one-woman army who could do what she pleased, what could Kuroko even offer? What could Onee-sama's friends even offer?

Uiharu? She was an excellent hacker, but Mikoto could hack things around her with but a thought and if she had a physical connection with a grid then she could extract all sorts of information on her own.

Saten? Her uncanny information-gathering was interesting and her luck in dangerous situations was definitely something supernatural, however Mikoto had no need for luck when she was so completely overwhelming.

Kuroko? Kuroko had combat experience and training from Judgment, she was a powerful Level 4 teleporter and yet Mikoto could defeat her in less than a second if she really tried.

And yet, that overwhelmingly powerful and peerless existence was being plagued by a problem greater than herself?

There were few things Kuroko could ever imagine, and with the news playing, she came to a hair-raising possibility.

"He saved me… He saved me… He saved me… He saved me…"

Last night. Last night, she did not want to believe it but. Could there be a link? There was no proof other than it happened on the same time. However her strong intuition gave her a bad feeling in her gut.

What happened on the night of the 18th of August?

Shirai Kuroko dreaded the answer.

In that afternoon of the 19th, Academy City itself ground to a halt over the news. As if time had stopped completely and their minds could not comprehend a world where a Level 5, especially the #1 had died.

A Level 5 was an untouchable and peerless creature.

A world where that untouchable presence crumbled was a bizarro world.

Beyond the crevices — II
X❖X

The government of Russia exercised the Executive power of the Russian Federation. The members of the Executional Branch of the government were the Prime Minister, the Deputy Prime Minister, and the Federal Ministers. Under the new constitution ratified by the transitional government of that period.

The President of Russia was snake-like, holding his position for more than four consecutive terms was a man named Ermolai R. Stepanov. There wasn't much to say about this man other than he expertly handled all sides of the conflict within the elements of the Upper society of Russia together by a small and fragile tape. He was a slippery snake, expert in saving his own hide and garnering support from all parties. He held no ambition for himself other than a stable power and stable money.

He kept things from imploding from both inside Russia and outside Russia as well.

That was not to say that Ermolai R. Stepanov was a pacifistic man, on the contrary, none had more bloodlust for conflict on the Regions of Elizalina and Eastern Europe than this man. However he was certainly tamer when going up against countries like China and the U.S. But then again, those two countries were so focused within themselves and their economies in recent times that they did not care about what happened with the Geopolitics of the world.

A President, who was elected by the majority vote of the country could serve more than four terms consecutively and was vested with significant powers, he was the one who appointed the Prime ministers, the key Judges and Cabinet members. As well as being the Commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the Country of Russia.

However that was all a farce under the surface, The Russian Orthodox and it's key allies had a vested interest in keeping the options of President close to their chests, a President could not win an election without the key support of the religion that dominated the country, therefore all key persons appointed by the President after his term started had the express approval of the Russian Orthodoxy. Cabinet members, Judges and Ministers were chosen indirectly by the Church itself.

However one must note that even that massive Church was divided. The key members of the Executive Branch were not always allied and so factions formed within the tightly controlled hands of the Russian Orthodox Church. Because the Church was segmented, the country was also divided at the highest level.

The old Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church which garnered more than 200 million believers was dead. The one who inherited his position was a child named Krans R. Tsarskiy.

Despite being a child of about ten years old he controlled the massive Church and by extension controlled the dealings of the Russian Government, having more power than the President himself. However elements within the Government and elements within the Church itself did not agree with his rule.

They did not want to be led by a child.

Even so they still complied with him on the surface, there were horrors stories of those that went against the old Patriarch, that there was a secret group within the Church that assassinated any dissenters be it members of their own or even members of the Government, and to rich and powerful people, the threat of death without having the justice on their side, as everything they ever held was ripped away from them, scared the Government more than anything else.

The Prime minister was an important figure in Russia but not quite as large as other figures. A young man named Afon P. Sorokin, mostly popular with the younger population of Russia, there was nothing really notable about the man himself, he was a man who just did his job because he was the most qualified for it, he held no aspirations for more political power or some sort of nefarious ambition. One could say he was the most normal person in power right now.

Then, there was the ultra-extremist Minister of Defense, he was an ardent supporter of the Russian Orthodoxy but was a vehement opposer to the rule of the new Patriarch, his name was Timofey F. Stanislav.

He was an old man who had a history of being an abuser when drunk and had ties to the darker elements of the Russian society. While the President technically held the title of Commander-in-chief, the Army, Police force and Intelligence agencies all held Timofey F. Stanislav as their leader and again the certain elements of the Russian Orthodox church never failed to put him again and again as the Minister of Defense. He also held control over the majority of armed militia within the country.

One could say that Timofey F. Stanislav had ordered more people to be killed in Russia than even the Old Patriarch. He was an ardent religious nut and extremist which made him hate Academy City and its Espers with all he had. To him Espers were unnatural demons in his eyes.

After 1991 under the new constitution, the federal assembly became the Country's Legislative Branch. Consisting of the Federal Council —which was an upper house consisting of appointed representatives from each Russian administrative divisions, it consisted of 17 Republics 41 oblasts, 7 krais, 3 federal cities and 4 autonomous okrugs. Every unit of the federation sent two senators every 5 years without re-election limits to fill the upper house to a total of 144 senators. The council held their sessions within the former Soviet State Building Agency. And for the purposes of succession in case the President died, the Chairperson of the Upper House was second-in-line after the Prime Minister.

The Chairperson was elected among senators and that position is held by one member of the council itself. And ever since 2002 one person held the position during all of her terms.

Sashura V. Makarova has held the position ever since she was elected as a senator and has controlled the Upper House since that time, she often held moderate views and held close allyship with most of her peers, she was elected from Leningrad where she held absolute power over the region from the shadows.

On the front she was just a senator that held the position of Chairwoman.

However in the dark she held more power than even the Prime Minister himself. She styled herself as a Queen who enjoyed certain pleasures, mainly slavery and children, for the better part of the year when the sessions were adjourned, she spent most of the days in her palace enjoying torturing children slaves, be it a girl or a boy she did not care, all she wanted was the tenderness and smoothness of a child to viciously torture.

Some elements knew that in the future Sashura V. Makarova, even if she held moderate and centrist views, one day that woman would become one of the central figures in the collapse of the government's trust that the people were slowly losing. However until her controversies and proclivities were discovered Sashura V. Makarova was a constant in Russian Politics, almost boasting about being the direct rival of the great woman Olay Blueshake, the Media Queen that controlled the Americas.

The State Duma — a lower house which consisted of 550 representatives popularly elected. Its members were referred to as deputies any Russian citizen who is of age 21 or older is eligible to participate in the election or maybe elected as deputy to the State Duma. However the same person cannot be a deputy to the Federation Council, with powers to consent the appointment of the Prime Minister of Russia and appointing the Chairman of the Central Bank of Russia. The Chairman of the State Duma was the presiding officer of the lower house of the Russian parliament. His responsibilities included overseeing the day-to-day business of the State Duma presiding and maintaining order at the regular sessions of the parliament.

Daniil A. Korolev was the current Chairman, an old man with a history of being elected as mayor, then as deputy. He was someone considered as a corporate slave, receiving dealings from under the table and overall representing the interests of the Corporations and Billionaires living in Moscow and Western Russia. He was the quintessential old fossil politician and just looked over Western Russia, generally leaving parts of Eastern Russia behind, so he held some animosity in the middle-high class population in Eastern Russia. Other than him being a corporate dog, there weren't anything damning to him other than two rape allegations that had small press coverage before being forgotten entirely.

Ermolai R. Stepanov, The President.

Afon P. Sorokin, The Prime Minister.

Timofey F. Stanislav, The Minister of Defense.

Sashura V. Makarova, The Chairwoman of the Upper House.

Daniil A. Korolev, The Chairman of the Lower House.

Krans R. Tsarskiy, The Patriarch of the Russian Orthodoxy.

The 6 most important people of Russia who rarely were under the same roof would be meeting today. As well as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, but that was an afterthought, she was still way below the political influence of these six people, she was more of an add-on due to her technical job.

They were there to welcome someone called an Esper, a child with supernatural powers coming to make a demonstration of her powers on seven cities of Russia, with her major debut being tomorrow on the Moscow Stadium. Academy City withheld all the information of the so-called Power Development Curriculum so all of them were interested to see what an Esper looked like, what an Esper could do, what she was capable of.

Misaka Mikoto was the only known Esper that the world actually knew. Her Father was very famous on the Geopolitical stage. The girl had traveled the world to do demonstrations.

The aides passed the files to the powerful people seated on the sumptuous rooms of Kremlin.

"Misaka Mikoto, daughter of Misaka Tabigake, his job is a 'consultant' to the world's most well-connected people."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs read the files out loud to the people as they read exact copies, she was a nervous wreck. While the President, Prime Minister, Chairman of the Lower House and the Patriarch were mostly harmless to people under them. There were three people here that gave her the shivers.

The first and most vile person here was a red nun. A blond woman of about 18-years-old with a terribly fake kind smile, and eyes as cold as frigid ice. She was the aide of the Patriarch and was named Vasilisa, just Vasilisa.

The second most vile person here was the comrade Chairwoman of the Upper House. A woman who looked eternally 20-years-old, but was over 50-years-old, she had white long hair and a collected and silent look. Having a completely red dress and hat and rich jewelry on her fingers. She was possibly the second most powerful person in the room and the supposed rival of Olay Blueshake, The Media Queen, who controlled all of the Politics on the U.S… This Russian woman was called Sashura V. Makarova, a complete moderate centrist who decided which piece of legislation passed in this country.

The third most vile person here was the comrade Minister of Defense, Timofey F. Stanislav was an old ghoul. He appeared to be especially irritated today. He was sometimes called the Commander-in-chief, hidden in the shadows, some rumors said the old ghoul even had access to nuclear codes. He had access to most armed militias and had the support of both the army and the police force. He was an ardent religious nut and extremist and was said to be the third most powerful person politically in Russia.

"…She has shown incredible aptitude for controlling electricity, even being able to control thunderstorms and call lightning on a clear sky as long as there is a cloud twenty-five kilometers away."

"Is that real lightning or electricity, can the lighting she generates really go as fast as our electrical grids?" The Prime Minister asked.

"In the first place, is her power even real?" The Chairwoman asked with a cold look.

"…"

The President kept his snake-like personality and just stood back and let the members of the government squabble under him and kill each other if it came to it, it's how he survived ruling for so long. However he was also interested in the so-called Esper powers.

Was it real lightning or fantasy-like lightning that appeared on the bland American hero movies?

There was a clear distinction between fantasy and real.

"From the footage and documentations about her other demonstrations, especially those coming for France we can all agree that Espers are in fact a reality, however we need to ascertain the capabilities of her powers."

The Patriarch added; however he was met with derision from the Minister of Defense and a predatory look from the Chairwoman. His words were not even detected by the Chairman. While the President and the Prime Minister paid close attention, only due to different reasons.

"So this is the reason why we are holding this farce in the first place, to see her 'capabilities'? There is nothing to see, they are the spawn of the devil. Humans trying to achieve the power of God is a sin. I say this and I will say it again, we should have gotten rid of Academy City long ago. They are doing the devil's work right under our noses on this Earth, and we have the gall to lend a space for them to mount their so-called Institute." The ghoul who controlled the Ministry of Defense replied with his religious drivel.

"If they are the so-called devils, then we need to confirm whether their powers are real or not. What? We'll know soon enough. The Devachka is arriving in a few hours, right?" The Chairwoman said with her coldness still in place. To be honest this whole affair did not even concern her.

"The problem that she brings is that she'll convince the parents of our nation's children to transfer their progeny of that city, causing a brain drain bigger than we have right now in Russia, if her powers are real and she gives a good show then we can expect 2.1 to 3.5% of the future generation to leave Russia and not come back." The Prime Minister replied, a professional young and bright man that was the most qualified person to the job.

The honey-trap that was Academy City promised a lot of things, a drip down of technology for the whole world, returning children who were Espers and could be used by their countries of origin, however that never happened. All the children sent there never returned and became integrated with the adult society of that city. Intelligence reports stated that Academy City would increase its population twice fold over the next ten years and the leap of technology over the whole world would triple. They would be ahead of the world by 90 years in terms of technology in the next ten years, and that was something that was not ideal for the corpse of a superpower that was Russia.

"We need to consider what a 'Level 5 Esper' is capable of, they said that city has 7 of them. And she is considered the third strongest out of them…Now…" The President appeased all sides as his speech started and he went on for ten minutes giving the benefits and cons about the whole situation and the leverages they were able to get. The President was a slippery snake, however one thing that he disagreed with was Academy City. He would not cry if tomorrow that damned city fell.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs added after her President's speech "…Misaka Mikoto has travelled to various countries. She faced a lot of hostility in some of them, especially France. She has experience facing hostile heads of state so we should account for that as well when we meet her."

France was not a Geopolitical ally of theirs but held a similar position that they now had. Interesting.

"It might be that France was against her because they have been under heavy influence from the Roman Catholic Church. And their hatred for Espers have been very pronounced, especially in these last few years." The young Patriarch added while Vasilisa stayed silent.

The ghoulish Minister of Defense almost scoffed at him.

"We have our best interviewers tonight and they will grill her long and hard, it doesn't matter if she has experience talking to heads of state, we have our expert interviewers to curb that little girl's pride on National television." The ghoul replied.

"…In any case, this all has started because of the Russian Orthodox Church, has it not? I don't know why you want to see what a so-called 'Esper' can do but." The Chairwoman biting tone of voice and her eyes focused on the nun at the back spoke of everything. "This business was started by you, so what are your plans for the little girl who is arriving?"

"She'll stay with us during the duration of her stay in Western Russia, she shall be accompanied by me at all times so that she doesn't cause trouble."

Instead of answering the question of why this demonstration has been set up, the Patriarch chose to be very technical with his answers and go on a completely different route, angering the Chairwoman.

The 6 powerful people had little clue to what was arriving in the country.

Young and reckless she might be.

However she was a monster that no army could ever handle.

And that monster was arriving on their country, mingling with their country, appearing on national television, making a show of her powers at their stadiums packed with curious people.

That tiny little monster will arrive today.

It's fine if you don't like it. But I've warned my viewers on the first chapter that Touma would have a harem and he would be a hentai protagonist. If you can still enjoy the story despite not liking that part, then I've done a good job I guess. One of the things I longed to write was a perspective from a girl in a Protagonist harem, what would she think and how would she act. That's one of the many reasons why I chosen Mikoto-chan to be the center focus of this story.

CodeTalker69
Next Touma arc will have five heroines getting it on with Touma, but it will be a more horror-focused story. Index, Himegami Aisa, Misha(Sasha) Kreutzev, Kanzaki Kaori, and ?(Who it will be? PepeLaugh Oh no no no.)

As for Russian arc, it will be filled with gore. There will be some horror moments, especially in the Shopping Mall. Moscow is an introductory arc for many antagonists as well as worldbuilding for Academy City and Russia, building up to World War III, eventually. It will also give great focus to what Mikoto is capable of and what she will be heading to in the future in terms of her power, as well as cement her villainous attiutde.

And you already have cracked a major conflict that I've prepared heading into the New testament, how will Touma and Mikoto handle Fremea and her situation is the question. As for ITEM and its situation I've been dropping some hints for a while now, but I'll let my readers draw their conclusions. Also thanks for the TVTropes page, I really really liked it!

The fourth thing is hard to stomach, but I personally really really love it as I continue to ponder over it.

I think my readers will absolutely love it when I think about it.

As for Seria lemons before New Testament, maybe? I haven't read the short stories. However there will be Seria lemons in my Biohacker SS flashback when New Testament starts.

But this fanfiction is more focused on story than anything else, writing sex is an additional bonus. This is a plot with porn kind of deal instead of porn with plot.

I know that the Russian demo arc happened before the start of the series, but I wanted to make an attempt at making my own story based on the original. And Accelerator being killed and Mikoto sniffing too hard on Academy City's underbelly made the perfect condition for Mikoto to go away from Academy City for a week.

GlassyHades
Ah, don't worry about it, this fic will explain everything in detail for arcs you haven't seen. So the only strict need for this fic is a tiny little information on the Radio Noise Sisters arc in canon. So this fanfic is pretty open to newcomers who can stomach horror and sex.

Just so we're in the same page, this first part of Russia is completely A.U. The second part which is the Shopping Mall is a real side story that may or may not be adapted along with Liberal Arts City into Railgun season four(And its intense even in Canon!).

Fortitude501
Yep. I completely agree on Othinus, her motivation is pretty weak, but she is still goddamn powerful and old and prideful too. So Touma is still going to face hell because she still stomps him two ways until Sunday. Her motivation might be weak, but she will be a great foil for dark Touma and his whole bullshit.

Chris
I need to make one thing clear. I don't know how to easily say this, but Kuroko and Mikoto are going to grow completely apart starting with Last Order arc. Kuroko will remain Lawful Good and won't be able to handle the tragedies to come her way. Kuroko won't turn dark, not in my fanfiction at least. And Old Testament 13 and 15 will drive Mikoto's mental state to its last legs, she'll really turn completely dark there.

As for Touma, well he's about to suffer in Angel Fall, mentally.

TM
I've probably read all doujinshis of Mikoto at this point. I've probably read the one which you are trying to link too so don't worry.

Don't forget to leave your review on the latest chapter if you want questions answered or engagement with the author on the next chapter.

Beyond the Crevices is my version of Between the lines. Where I can shift the focus away from the main characters to do some Worldbuilding.

There are two long-term A.U Antagonists that will be fully introduced here in this Arc. One for the final Old Testament Arc and another to go even beyond Genesis Testament. They have their name dropped in this chapter.

Who will survive World War III and who will thrive after that?

I hope you liked the first buildup chapter for the conflict Mikoto-chan is going to face in Russia. She is still oblivious about magic but she will be introduced to its effects early on, unlike Canon. This is the first Arc where Touma is nowhere to be found. But there will be a Beyond the Crevices focusing solely on Kuroko and the tragedy she and her friends will face. What tragedy will it be? Well, it's for you to find out.

The next arc after the Russian saga will be a completely reimagined Angel Fall arc. This time focusing solely on Touma with Mikoto nowhere to be found(She's in Russia the Arcs are happening at the same time).

My Angel Fall arc is truly going to earn the Horror tag, so be ready about that.

Along with an early introduction of a certain... character.
