Out in the Open:

When Jay and Astrid arrived at their home, Jay opened the car's trunk, which stored their future child's baby clothes and toys.

"You have any idea on what their names will be?" Astrid curiously asked.

"Well, it's too soon to say. We don't know for sure if it's a boy or girl," Jay said.

"I seriously wish for a boy, " Astrid said.

"Why?" Jay asked.

"Well, a baby boy will give me the feeling that I'm taking care of my own brother or father. Besides, I didn't have a father due to being conceived through sperm donation," Astrid said. "I never had a father and I wished I had one. Even though Mom raised me right."

"I understand. But I wish for a girl," Jay said.

"What makes you say that?" Astrid asked.

"Well, it'd be nice to have a baby girl because they give me this feeling of taking care of another woman you care about in our family," Jay said.

"That's sweet, Jay. But that ain't changing my mind," Astrid said, still sticking with her preference for a boy.

"Why are the lights on?" Jay said, looking at their house is full of light.

"Do you think… Oh god!" Astrid said, opening the door, only to find her mother, sitting on the couch, watching the 49ers season opener.

"Thank god you guys are here! What took you so long?" Jan said.

"We were out shopping," Jay said, holding the bags to prove a point.

"By the way, congratulations, you guys! I couldn't be more happier for the both of you!" Jan said, hugging both Jay and Astrid together.

"Thanks, Jan. Why are you here?" Jay asked.

"Well, I'm here for a reunion. I was part of a documentary released 23 years ago. It's called The Office: A Workplace. I wonder if you heard about it," Jan said.

"Nah. I didn't, Jan. Sounds interesting, though," Jay said.

"More than interesting. You should watch it," Jan said.

"Huh. Where can we watch it?" Jay asked.

"It's on Youtube. But, I have the entire CD collection of the documentary," Jan said, pulling out 10 CDs.

"Cool," Jay replied, taking the The Office: A Workplace's 1st CD.

"You know, I was very impressed with that game of your against the Eagles. Not bad," Jan complimented.

"Well, we're starting to become top-team. Reviving the legacy left behind by Montana, Young, Garcia, Garoppolo, Kittle, and Mostert," Jay humbly said.

"Speaking of the 49ers, you guys have gotten two new players from the Eagles. I'm not sure if that's legal," Jan said.

"It is. Any trade before the deadline is legal," Jay said.

"Can we talk anything other than football, please?" Astrid asked.

"Sure, Astrid. How's the movie filming on the spin-off on Nikhil Yadav?" Jan asked.

"We finished a week ago. It's on post-production now, but it's all good," Astrid said.

"You should've seen Astrid in 13 Reasons for Vengeance. She was a rockstar," Jay said.

"I know she was a rockstar performer because she's my daughter," Jan said.

"True," Jay said.

"So when are you guys coming open with your marriage? Aren't you guys permanent?" Jan asked.

"Well, our private life is private. Though we get our fans love us, they have no business in our private life. We'll come out when the time is right. Around the time when Astrid's 3 months pregnant," Jay said.

"I see. Anyhow, it's gotta come out. Just like this documentary," Jan said, popping in the 1st CD into the DVD player.

As the DVD player started playing the CD, the screen played the Office Theme song with shots of Scranton. When the main menu was pulled up on the screen, there were six episodes listed. Jay clicked on the top episode, Pilot.

Watching the episode, Jay was surprised to see Jason's father Michael in the documentary.

"I know that guy. He's my friend's father," Jay said.

Jan paused the documentary and asked, "You know Michael Scott? How?"

"He's Jason Scott's father. You know my friend Jason Scott, right?," Jay said.

Jan was surprised. She didn't expect Jason Scott to be the son of her former lover, Michael.

"Wow. I didn't know that Michael had a son. Especially after three vasectomies," Jan said.

"How do you know Jason's father?" Jay asked out of curiosity, unaware of Jan and Michael's history.

"I'm sorry? Three vasectomies?" Astrid said, with a sudden shocked look on her face.

As Jay has no idea about the connection between Jan and Michael, Jan decides to not tell him and Astrid all the truth.

"It's complicated. Very hard to explain," Jan said. "Anyhow, I realized it's bedtime for me. Feel free to watch the documentary."

Jan got off on her couch and went to sleep in the guest bedroom.

"Is it just me or am I thinking Jan had an affair with Jason's dad?" Jay asked Astrid.

"Actually, you're right about one thing. Jason's father and my mom have a past connection. I don't know what that connection is, but we'll find out if we watch the documentary," Astrid said.

"We should. I think this documentary holds all the answers," Jay said, resuming watching the documentary with Astrid.

"All right, Jim. You quarterlies are looking very good. How are things going at the library?" Michael on the TV screen said.

"I told you, I couldn't close it, so…..," a gawky, tall salesman said.

"So you've come to the master of guidance?" Michael said. "Is this what you're saying, grasshopper?" Michael spoke with a Chinese accent.

"Uh, actually, you called me in here. But yeah," the gawky salesman said.

As Jay and Astrid kept watched the episode, they were watching with genuine interest.

"Oh! Dammit! Jim! I-" said a weird looking salesman with glasses.

"Hold on, hold on. Judge's in session. What is the problem here?" Michael asked.

"He put my stuff in Jell-O again!" the weird looking salesman with glasses angrily said, pulling out a stapler inside lemon flavored Jell-O.

Looking at the prank caused Astrid and Jay to burst into laughter.

"Oh my god! That's genius!" Jay said out laughing.

"I know! This reminds me of a prank Cecelia played on me. It was the exact same prank, but with chocolate pudding," Astrid said.

"I like that woman Pam. You can tell she was in love with Jim," Jay said.

"Same here. You wanna keep watching?" Astrid asked.

"Sure," Jay said, resuming the documentary.

When they were done with the first six episodes, Jay and Astrid wanted to watch more. But they felt sleepy.

"You know, I'd love to watch more, but it's already late. We'll watch the 2nd CD tomorrow," Astrid said.

"Ok, baby. Let's go to bed," Jay said, carrying Astrid bridal style.

"Baby! This is a little much!" Astrid remarked at Jay carrying her.

"Well, it isn't much. Especially when you're sweet as candy," Jay flirted.

"I know. But you're more sweeter than candy," Astrid flirted back while drawing her fingers on his soft cheeks

"You know it," Jay said, kissing Astrid in the lips very deeply.

When Jay and Astrid went to bed and cuddled into each other while having their hands on Astrid's belly, imagining their child's heartbeat, Jason dropped off Cecelia at her apartment.

"You sure you don't want to come?" Cecelia asked.

"Nah. Gotta check in on my little brother. Besides, I can't leave him out there alone for the night," Jason said.

"See ya later, boo," Cecelia said.

"Adios, mi amor," Jason said, driving off to his house.

When Jason drove off to his house, Cecelia walked toward the building where her apartment is. Taking an elevator, she gets off at the 30th floor, the highest floor in the building. When she arrives at her apartment, she took out the keys in her purse and opens the door. When she turns on the lights, she never expected to see the people she loved the most.

"Surprise!" Jim, Pam, and Phillip exclaimed.

"Oh my god! I thought you guys would be here on Friday!" Cecelia said.

"Well, we came here for three reasons," Jim said. "We came for a reunion for the documentary your mom and I were a part of."

"The Office: A Workplace documentary? Wasn't that 23 years ago?" Cecelia said.

"Yeah, it was. And we came here to open our Athleap branch in San Francisco. It figured it's time we settle in California because you guys are here and the fact the 49ers have been the rising team here in American football," Jim said.

"That's cool," Cecelia said.

"And, sorry to disappoint you at yesterday's game," Phillip said, referencing the game with Philadelphia and San Francisco.

"Buddy, it's cool. Besides, whatever team you play for is my favorite team. Ok? You played for Philly, and you're now playing for the 49ers. Gotta tell you, you're gonna be great out there," Jim said.

"So what's up, Phillip? How's SF so far?" Pam asked.

"It's ok, actually. I've seen the city for a bit. I've been liking the piers, to be honest," Phillip said.

"That's cool. So you're gonna tell us about this girl you've been dating?" Jim said.

"Yeah. You know her name's Emily Scott. She's the MVP of the Los Angeles Sparks. And a feminist icon," Phillip said.

"That is quite the résumé, Phillip. You know her parents?" Cecelia asked.

"No. But, I'm meeting her parents on Thursday. I heard my big sister is dating an NFL rockstar," Phillip said. "Who's the lucky guy who brought home the gold?"

"Um. I'll say his name if you promise you won't get mad," Cecelia nervously said.

"Why would I be mad?" Phillip said, confused at the question.

Jim and Pam, also confused at the question, also ask who's her boyfriend.

"Remember that concussion that Stanford player gave you, Phillip?" Cece nervously asked.

Phillip realized who Cece's dating based on the hint.

"Jason Scott?!" Phillip shouted. "You're dating Jason Scott?!"

"Oh shit," Jim said, concerned about Jason's angry reaction.

When Jim walked toward his kids' confrontation, Phillip smiled and chuckled at the news, showing he pretended at being angry.

"It's all good, big sis. I think it's time I bury the hatchet with the guy. I mean, sure. He gave me a concussion. But he better give an apology for taking me out at that game. And I think it's time I apologize too," Phillip said.

"So, you're not angry at me dating your rival?" Cecelia asked for clarification.

"Of course not. I have something to tell you too. I'm dating Jason's sister," Phillip said.

Cecelia was sort of surprised at the news.

"What?" Cecelia said.

"Emily Scott. You know WNBA Championship MVP for the Los Angeles Sparks?" Phillip said.

"You're messing with me," Cecelia claimed. "You did not get intimate with Emily Scott."

"Oh, big time," Phillip said.

"What major did she study and where?" Cecelia said.

"She studied Economics at USC," Phillip said.

"Woah," Cecelia said, realizing the truth. "I think it's gonna be lot easier than I thought it would be."

"Wait a second. So you guys are dating, top-notch athletes, who are brother and sister?" Pam said.

"That's what we said," Phillip told.

"Ok. Whew, I have something to tell you, Phil. I did know, Jason Scott. He's the other guy who signed the Athleap contract with me. I lied because I knew that you hate Jason Scott. Now, I see that you put your grudge aside," Jim said. "And Jason's my former boss's son."

"He's Michael Scott's son? Holy shit!" Phillip said. "I'm surprised at that piece of news. But hey, I'm chill. Besides, it would be nice if Jason came over for dinner tomorrow with Emily and his family. It would be great to say our apologies," Phillip said.

"So, dinner tomorrow?" Jim asked.

"Ok, I'll let him know," Cece said with a smile, who just went to her room.

When Cece went to her room, Phillip still kept the smile on his face.

"So you really have gotten over your grudge for Jason Scott?" Jim asked, trying to confirm if it is true.

"Yeah. If hadn't met Emily, who I didn't know was Jason's little sister back then, I would have taken things personally," Phillip said.

"So, Emily basically changed your way of thinking," Pam clarified.

"Exactly. I'm dating her for a year. Turns out, we had pure mutual feelings for each other and we learned about our families for a while," Phillip revealed.

"And how'd you take when you learned Emily is Jason's younger sister?" Pam asked.

"I was surprised. With all honesty. But, I realized that I shouldn't let my professional career get in the way due to personal grudges. And I started to respect Jason. I still don't like him, but I respect him," Phillip truthfully revealed.

"That's convincing. You sure Jason knows that you're dating his sister?" Pam asked.

"No. But Emily's gonna tell him. Probably today," Phillip said.

"Ok. I'm glad you overcame that personal grudge. Have you settled your beef with Phillip Halsted Schrute?" Jim asked.

"Nah. He's still annoying. I can tolerate Jason more than Schrute. He is so rude! He called Jay Sharma an Indian N-word when Stanford was playing Havard," Phillip said.

"Shit. Does the NFL know about that?" Jim asked with concern.

"They do, but they let it go when he issued a sincere apology," Phillip revealed.

"Well, I'm glad. And I can't believe he's with the 49ers now. Don't get me wrong. He's an excellent QB. Top passer rating, consistent completion percentage, highest rushing yards, and 1st in TDs, lowest in INTs, and never got sacked. It's just the team chemistry that he needs to work on," Jim said.

"How the fuck do you know all this?" Phillip asked, annoyed by his dad's knowledge on Phillip.

"We wanted to sign him, but we learned about the history between him and Jay Sharma," Jim said. "And we don't tolerate racist incidents in the company, so, the signing's void."

"Best decision ever. The good side in joining the 49ers is that I'll be able to play with the best. The bad side is that I have to play with Schrute," Phillip said.

"Did you know that the NFL is making a documentary on the new 49ers era?" Philip added on.

"What?" Jim said.

"Yeah, it's a huge thing for the franchise. The filmmakers would be filming us for 9 years. Sounds like a time-expansive process," Phillip said.

While Jim was surprised about this, Pam feels like Phillip's going through déjà vu. Remembering that the Office filmmakers filmed for 9 years, she starts to think it's fate.

"How do you know this?" Jim asked.

"Coach Larson told me. He told me that it's due to publicity the 49ers are getting due to 3 consecutive Superbowl wins," Phillip said. "It's more like an inside look into the making of an elite franchise. More elite than the Patriots."

As Phillip and his parents start discussing about the incoming filming of the documentary, Jason arrives at his house. When he gets his keys, he's surprised that the lights are still on.

"It's around 11:00 pm. Is Benji still up with Stanford party girls?" Jason thought to himself.

Wanting to find out, Jason opened the door and found a surprise he never expected.

"Surprise!" Benjamin, Michael, Holly, and Emily exclaimed!

"You guys! I was expecting you for tomorrow!" Jason said in joy, hugging them.

"Well, we wanted to see how you guys are doing in the Bay! We know you guys are getting lots of publicity. But, we felt that a good break from handling all that attention is needed," Holly said.

"Hey, ma. So glad you're here," Jason said.

"Don't forget about me, kiddo," Michael said.

"Sorry, dad," Jason said with a smile.

"And me," Emily said.

"Right," Jason said apologetically.

"And me," Benjamin joked.

"Man, shut up. You're living in my house. How can I not forget you?" Jason jokingly quipped. "How come you guys are here?"

"Well, I wanted to see you kids. Also, your mother and I were part of a documentary, which is having a reunion here. You remember which documentary, right?" Michael said.

"The Office: A Workplace documentary?" Jason clarified.

"Yeah. So, because of its 23rd anniversary of being popular, everyone who played a major part in the documentary, will have a reunion here at Santa Clara," Michael said.

"Woah, that's big. So, you guys came to see us and take part in a reunion?" Benjamin said.

"Exactly. We're also here to meet the people who captured Jason's and Emily's heart," Michael said.

"About that, I'm dating this football player who captured my heart," Emily said.

"Oh! Another football player in the family! Who's the lucky man?" Holly asked.

"His name's Phillip Halpert. Former Philly Eagles cornerback and now in Jason's team," Emily said.

"Wait. Phillip Halpert?" Jason said.

"You know him?" Emily said.

"Yeah. I was matched up against him during the game against Philadelphia," Jason said, not revealing his grudge.

"You must've given him a sore time, given how many touchdowns you got," Emily said.

"Nah. It's not many. He's a great dude. We didn't have a friendship at first. He usually trash-talks. But he proves his words when he's on the field. He's like the "next-gen Richard Sherman," Jason praised.

"So you guys are friends?" Holly said.

"Not exactly. We have respect for each other. We had a small altercation during a game when I was playing in college. He was part of the opposing team. When we entered the NFL, I felt it was time to let bygones be bygones. But, we didn't find the time to say our apologies," Jason said.

"Well, you have to do it sooner than later," Michael said.

"I also have another thing too. I'm dating his older sister, Cecelia Halpert," Jason nervously revealed.

"Wait a minute? You're dating Cecelia Halpert?" Emily said.

"Yeah. Volleyball player. Gold medalist in U.S. Olympics," Jason said.

"What major did she study and where?" Emily questioned, trying to confirm if Jason's telling the truth.

"She studied finance at UC Berkeley. Her friend Astrid Levinson and her met me and Jason. That's how we got together," Jason revealed.

"Oh god!" Emily said.

"Well, son. I'm happy for you. That's really good!" Michael said.

"Thanks, dad," Jason said.

"Have you thought about the deal with David Wallace?" Michael nervously asked.

"Yup. I'm gonna take it. But if he crosses the line with me, I'm voiding it," Jason warned.

"So, problem solved. I'll tell him later. In the meantime, we should get some sleep. I'm still in mountain time zone. So to speak," Michael said.

"Sure," Jason. "Benji. Show dad where the guest bedrooms are."

Jason directed Michael and Holly to the guest bedrooms.

When Michael and Holly are left to themselves in their guest bedroom, Michael and Holly discuss.

"Are you kidding me? Jason and Emily are dating Jim and Pam's kids?! God! I already had a bad experience dating Pam's mom!" Michael complained.

"That's because she didn't want changes in her family, Michael. She warned you to not date anyone in her family. That warning doesn't apply to our kids!" Holly stated.

"So you're suggesting Pam would've hated me just like I hated Jeff?" Michael asked.

"Exactly, Michael," Holly stated. "Now, listen. What happened many years ago is not part of our kids' lives. I assume Pam knows that too. Just don't bring up unpleasant memories which might ruin the whole thing."

"Ok," Michael relented.

When Michael was sitting on the bed, he started to think about his time with his step-dad, Jeff. Behind every smile on Michael's face, there was sorrow and pain behind it. Jeff was neglectful of him and didn't seem to care for him. Because of this, Michael despised him. When Michael's mom married Jeff, she became neglectful and harshly criticizing. With all the neglect and criticism he endured over the years, he became lonely and was emotionally damaged, leading him to make terrible decisions in his future. Because of the emotional damage, he become unaware of social norms, social cues, and common sense. In an emotional damaged state, he leaned toward comedy, which gave him some joy, much to the expense of his co-workers at the time.

After working as a salesman under Ed Truck for 8 years, he became Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin Scranton. Despite being the comedian in the branch, he still cared for his employees like family. Though he had absurd and idiotic ideas, which have been negatively viewed upon and resulted in disastrous consequences, there are genuine good intentions behind them.

Even though comedy has given him a smile on his face, he still felt lonely and emotionally damaged. He hadn't come out of his trauma and it is evident through his formerly poor relationship with former H.R. representative of Dunder Mifflin Scranton and famous New York crime-thriller writer Toby Flenderson. Because of Toby's status as a divorcee and a better parent to his kids, Michael became jealous of him. Because of that jealousy, he started to hate Toby because Toby found Michael's antics to overstep some safety rules.

When Michael found love in different places, he started to get more lonely. Until he met Holly Flax. Initially, he disliked her due to being a H.R rep. But, as he got to know her, he develops a genuine interest in her. When they had a smooth relationship going, they were separated due to David Wallace, who saw their relationship. Citing it as a relationship problem, he had Holly transferred to Nashua. Due to the long distance between Nashua and Scranton, Holly and Michael broke up.

When Michael was going through his break-up, he found temporary love with Pam's mom, Helene. When Michael broke up with her due to being older than him on her birthday, he kept quiet about the real reason why he broke up with Helene. It was because Michael feared Pam would hate him and possibly ruin her emotional well-being, just like he hated Jeff and became emotionally damaged. Regardless, Michael and Pam became friends again and the reason was never mentioned.

When Holly moved back to Scranton and broke up with her boyfriend A.J, Michael and Holly reunite and resume their relationship. As a result, Michael became more mature and started to emotionally heal from the trauma he experienced due to being neglected as a child. When they got married, he and Holly moved to Boulder, where they settled happily.

After being more mature and emotionally healthier, Michael befriended Toby and became good friends with him. Making amends and peace with his blunders and antics, Michael still kept the enthusiasm and joyful attitude he had in Scranton.

"Dad?" Jason said, noticing Michael was sitting on the bed.

"Hey, kiddo. I'm so proud of you. You know that?" Michael said in an emotional state.

"You ok?" Jason asked under concern.

"Yeah. Your remember my step-dad, right?" Michael asked.

"Yeah. Jeff. He was neglectful, and so was grandma when she got married to him," Jason said.

"I never thought I would start a family when I was living with them. I was emotionally deprived. Even if I did start a family, I wanted to keep it together, at all cost," Michael emotionally said, while showing a few tears.

"What is this about?" Jason asked with concern over his dad's emotions.

"It's just that I never wanted you and your siblings to go through what I've gone through as a child," Michael revealed.

"You're not like Jeff, dad. You should know that. And if you were like Jeff, I would've not been a football player at all," Jason said. "You're a better parent than he was. You cared for our family."

"I just feared that I wasn't good enough to be a dad. Given the fact I didn't have a positive figure in my life, besides your mom," Michael said emotionally.

"Dad, look at me. You are a great parent. Remember that. Ok?" Jason emotionally said, hugging Michael.

"I love you, dad," Jason said.

"I love you too, son," Michael emotionally said.

When Michael and Jason were having an emotional father-son moment, Jason's phone has ringed.

Wiping his tears, Jason rushed to get his phone, seeing that Cecelia has called him.

"Hey, Cece. What's with the late night call?" Jason said.

"Phillip found out. And surprisingly, he's ok with it," Cecelia revealed.

"Oh, another thing. I found out your brother is dating my sister. And I'm ok with it too. If he gives me an apology," Jason said.

"So the cat's out of the bag with surprises," Cecelia said. "Anyway, my parents want to meet you for dinner tomorrow. Bring your sister and your family."

"Will do, baby girl," Jason said. "Love you to the moon and back."

"Miss you, sweetie," Cecelia said, ending the call.

"Who was that on the phone?" Michael asked.

"It's my girlfriend. She told me to come to dinner with Emily, mom, and you," Jason said.

"Boy, it's gonna be one of a kind reunion," Michael said.

"What do you mean?" Jason asked, not understanding what his father meant.

"You remember the couple I was referencing daily when I talked about my time at Dunder Mifflin?" Michael said, giving him a hint.

"Holy shit! Cecelia and Phillip are Jim and Pam's kids?!" Jason said.

"Yup! And it's gonna be one of a kind reunion," Michael exclaimed.
