AN: This is a story on my Wattpad that I wrote years ago.
It had been pouring cats and dogs outside all day long. Dewey and his friend Webby could hardly stand it any longer! They were going to play tag outside, but the rain immediately ruled that out. They couldn't play inside either because Huey was sick in bed, and they weren't allowed to be noisy. There was literally nothing for the two hyper children to do but lay around the house.
Dewey dramatically flopped into his blue bean bag again, "Arrrg I'm soooo bored! This is the worst day ever!"
"Yeah," Webby nodded from a green bean bag across from him. "Donald's probably having more fun at work right now. Ugh." She face planted into the bean bag. They were so bored they could hardly think anymore.
"What do you think Louie's doing right now? I haven't seen him since breakfast," Webby admitted. They had blueberry waffles that morning and they all dug in quickly. Louie came late and most of it was already gone. Beakley offered to make more for him, but he refused to eat any.
"He's been acting weird lately," Dewey said, "He didn't even complain about us eating his waffles this morning. He loves blueberry waffles more than any of us!"
"Maybe he's sick too like Huey."
"Nah Beakley checked and said he was fine."
"Hmm." Both friends thought about how odd the youngest in their group had been acting as of late. He was sleeping more than usual. He didn't talk or participate in their games as much. And he refused his favorite food!
Webby and Dewey grinned stimutanously.
"You thinking what I'm thinking Webby?"
"Maybe. I was gonna check on Louie. You?"
"Same thing. Come on. Let's find out what's wrong with my baby brother!" The two friends left their comfortable bean bags and went searching for the youngest triplet. Webby would check the kitchen, bathrooms, and garage, while Dewey would check all the spare bedrooms and houseboat.
As they searched for Louie, they thought back on how he'd been acting earlier that week.
Four days earlier...
"Truth or dare Louie?" Webby asked her friend in green. They were all having a sleepover in Webby's bedroom again. And sitting on the floor playing a round of truth or dare. So far Huey was dared to do a headstand, and Dewey had to admit an embarrassing secret. (He was still scared of the dark) Now it was Louie's turn to take a truth or dare.
"Truth. You get too crazy with your dares sometimes Webby. I don't want to get hurt this time." The last time they played this game Louie ended up with a sprained ankle from jumping down the stairs. Beakley gave him medical care, then Donald lectured him.
"Is it true that you write fan fiction in your free time?"
Louie pulled his hood over his head and whispered in a low voice. "Maybe."
Huey and Dewey tried not to aww.
Dewey asked, "Do you read it too?"
"Mmm. Maybe."
"I think I read a fanfic once," Huey admitted. It wasn't that bad-" Louie threw a small pillow at his face.
"Enough! Let's just go to sleep now. I'm tired anyway."
Webby clapped her hands together. "Last one in bed is a rotten egg!"
Huey, Dewey, and Webby all hurried off to the huge water bed and snuggled in together. Louie came a minute after and joined the group snuggle. Beakley and Donald came later to kiss them goodnight and turn off the lights.
Webby's POV
Webby searched the garage first since that was where the cool treasure was. The last time they'd all been there they accidentally released the gold eating dragon. Scrooge got mad at them, but they helped him stop the dragon. Although Scrooge discouraged them from returning to the garage, Webby caught Louie there alone once. She playing tag with his brothers when she followed him in. Louie refused to play to tag earlier because he was always caught first, and didn't care for running. Yet he was looking around the place nervously as if he expected to be caught any second. But unlike the first time he was down here Louie didn't try to attach green sticky notes to everything. He just sat in a corner and tapped away at his phone. Webby watched for a few minutes, then left. Louie never saw her and she suspected he might have been hiding out in the garage again.
She looked around every artifact, in every corner of the room. Louie wasn't there. She left and made her way to the kitchen. Maybe he was hungry. He didn't seem to be eating enough lately.
Five days earlier...
Webby was reading Louie to sleep as she did most nights. Donald used to be the one doing it, but Webby had since taken over the bedtime reading. Huey and Dewey pretended to never listen, but they were captured by Webby's calm reading. Webby could be really calm when she was reading. Other times she seemed to be too hyperactive. But around Louie she was sometimes relaxed. His chill personality really rubbed off on her.
"...and they lived happily ever after. The end."
Usually Louie and his brothers were asleep by now. But none of them even yawned.
"Read another book," Louie asked.
"Which one?"
"The three little pigs. That's my favorite one."
"But we lost that one remember?" The book had disappeared weeks earlier. "Oh I know! I can make up a story!" She got off his bed and put the book with the others before returning.
"Once upon a time there were three sad little ducks. They were sad because they lost their mom. They cried for weeks and months after. But then they were all adopted by their nice relative. They felt whole again and lived happily ever after. The end." When she finished the story Webby tucked Louie in tight then checked the time. " It's getting late, I gotta go to bed now. Goodnight guys."
"Goodnight Webby," Dewey and Huey said together. Louie was already fast asleep. She flipped the light off before leaving.
Later that night Dewey caught Louie sneaking in a midnight snack. The next morning he missed breakfast completely.
