The Wedding:
After the Superbowl, Halpert, Schrute, Jason, and Jay decide to remain best friends in different teams. After a much needed talk with their families, they decided to join new teams.
While Jay was busy tending to his children, he was talking to Jason on Facetime .
"I'm not sure, man. I mean, the kids are getting a little fussy. I mean, they cry loud, but at least not for a very long time. And I have to say, it would be nice if you had Halpert or some guy from our Stanford squad as your best man. Same goes with Astrid though," Jay said.
"Well, it is what is. But you guys are coming. Ok. And you have to give a speech. Both you and Astrid. Ok?" Jason ordered.
"Ok. I need to go to sleep, man. I'm on the 2-kid sleep schedule and I feel like it's 2:25 am right now," Jay said, feeling tired.
"The kids keeping you up that late?" Jason asked.
"Yeah. Astrid and I have been taking turns on who's watching the kids everyday. It's pretty good. As long as we notify ourselves on the events and commitments that we have to make. If there's a conflict, we can bring them to the events. That's how I'm doing it. How far are you in the documentary?" Jay asked.
"Just started watching Whistleblower," Jason said.
"Oh. Cool. See ya man," Jay said, ending the call.
As Jay kept rocking his daughter and son, he felt very tired. It was 5:50 am. Although Jay tried to keep his eyes shut, he promptly fell asleep.
When Jay fell asleep, Astrid woke up, wondering if her husband's still up late. Looking at how her husband's sleeping with their kids next to him, she smiled. Out of respect, she decides to give Jay a break on watching the kids, noting how he's spending time with family.
Knowing that Cecelia and Jason's wedding is only a few days away, they decide to go.
As Jay and Astrid got ready a few hours later, they decide to bring the kids with them.
When Jay and Astrid boarded their plane to Scranton, Pennsylvania, they felt promptly asleep while cuddling their kids to sleep.
While Jay and Astrid were sleeping on their plane, both the Scott and Halpert families are preparing for the wedding.
"You sure this is enough, Michael?" Holly asked as Michael received a huge order of flowers that are supposed to be part of decoration for the wedding venue in Scranton.
"Of course it is! Look, Emily's the wedding planner who knows what she's doing. I trust my daughter. And you're telling me that you don't trust my daughter?" Michael said with a hint of annoyance.
"I didn't say that. I was saying that this is a bit much," Holly said.
"I see. Both Jason and Cecelia are athletes who are widely celebrated athletes in the U.S. How do you think their wedding should be?" Michael said.
"Michael, you know our son's a modest and humble man. With the decorations and the cost of the wedding, it's incredulous," Holly reminded.
"It's not incredulous. I'm just throwing a big fat wedding for my pride and joy," Michael stated.
"That's what incredulous is," Holly said.
"It's not like I'm pulling office antics around nowadays. And I know how I am doing my finances properly," Michael calmly argued.
"For once, I have to agree with Michael here. Out of all the things he's done in and out the office, this has got to be the least harmful, self-absorbed, narcissistic thing he has ever doner," Jim interjected in the conversation.
"Hey, Jim. Listen, I know it's hard. But are you sure Pam's ok with her daughter marrying my son? Given how personal relationships worked out in the past, I'm kind of skeptical," Michael said, showing his concern.
"Is this about what Pam did when you dated Helene? Dude, we're way past that. And, to make things better, we didn't invite her to the wedding. Because you'll be there as part of the groom's family," Jim assured.
"You're not answering my question, Jimbo. Is Pam okay with it?" Michael questioned with full clarity.
"Yes. She is perfectly okay with it," Jim assured with strong confidence.
"Fine. Look, for the misgivings that I did, I just want to say…" Michael said.
"Michael, it's fine. Don't worry about it," Jim interjected, reassuring Michael that Jason marrying Cecelia won't bring problems between the two of them.
As Michael was reassured, Jim decided to talk to Pam, who was getting Cecelia some bridal make-up on for the wedding.
As Jim saw Pam dress-rehearse Cecelia's makeover, he signaled to Pam that they need to talk.
When Pam finished the dress-rehearsal of the makeover, Jim explains to Pam about Michael's concerns and insecurities.
"Wow. He's that concerned?" Pam asked, surprised to Michael's symptoms of possible cold feet.
"Well, that's what I'm hearing. Are you sure that you didn't invite your mom?" Jim asked.
"Actually, I did," Pam confessed with guilt.
"Are you f*cking kidding me, Pam?! Now you're just gonna make Michael worry!" Jim reacted with shock and disappointment.
"He's never gonna find out. Listen, I'll keep my mom away from Michael. I need Jason to do vice versa," Pam explained.
"How do you think that's gonna work? Jason's the groom," Jim explained out of frustration. "You just put us in a situation that will cause Michael to be completely unhinged and we don't want that. Michael doesn't need anymore PTSD when he sees Helene. Ok?"
"Jim, I said I got this. And I want to correct myself on the fact that Holly will keep Michael away from my mom," Pam explained with clarity.
"Whew. That's a relief. Now that way, Michael will be protected," Jim said.
"Jim, stop overreacting. It's your daughter's wedding," Pam said.
As Pam and Jim started to bicker, Jan and Coach Larson spent time casually talking in Jan's office at White Pages Company.
"I don't want to go into the affair, but it's great being back together again," Coach Larson said.
"It is. I'm glad. The biggest shocker is that Astrid accepted you as my boyfriend. I think she's taking it slow. Besides, she knows that I needed someone. What are the odds that turned out to be you?" Jan said with a chuckle.
"To be fair, not having sex when we resumed our relationship was a huge plus factor. I mean, we got to see something more deep," Coach Larson said. "Why did you protect me? Even if you didn't love me?"
"That's a tough question. But I can answer that. I didn't want to lose our daughter. Correction, my daughter. I can lose you, but I can't lose her. That's why I kept her out of the blue from you all this time," Jan answered.
"I see. Well, thanks for the talk. Because I know that what happened between us wasn't love at all," Coach Larson said before leaving the conversation.
While Jan and Coach Larson had their small talk, Addison is starting to show a few signs of pregnancy like morning sickness.
Unlike Phillip Schrute's parents, Addison and Phillip decided to raise their child in a respectable manner which fits both societal and Schrute norms. Although Dwight was confused why Phillip didn't have a child-rearing contract, Phillip retorted, saying that's what split up the family before it even started.
Seeing the logic in his words, Dwight decides to let him do his thing.
"Is it just me or our kid's gonna be the best of the best in the next generation?" Phillip Schrute said.
"Well, we did promise that our child will not go through your family's cultural shenanigans," Addison said.
"Yup. Although the rules in the family were kind of creepy and awkward, I found some to be useful. But the useful rules' punishments is a bit much," Phillip Schrute said.
"Agreed. I mean, who gets shunned for 2 years because of not saving an excess can of tuna oil?" Addison questioned.
"My dad, Dwight Kurt Schrute the 3rd. Gotta say, he's not one for smiling," Phillip Schrute said.
"True. Gotta say, marrying in your own graves makes it sound like your family is are necrophilic," Addison stated.
"On the bright side, it's a symbolic way of saying our love's eternal, even after we die," Phillip Schrute explained.
While Addison and Schrute have their personal time, Dwight and Angela were watching over them.
"Where's Jake?" Dwight asked while looking at Phillip and Addison.
"He's out pranking with Mose and Samantha again. They want to vandalize the Manheims' farm," Angela said.
"Are you kidding me? At a time like this? Well, the Manheims deserve to have their fields vandalized because they're cowards," Dwight said.
"I'm kind of concerned that Addison will only make our eldest son grow further away from his roots," Angela said.
"Monkey. Relax. I know Phillip. Although he may look like he disapproves our family's customs, he does show an understanding and some appreciation for them. Like the rules Schrute boys learn before the age of 5," Dwight assured.
"I hope you're right," Angela said.
While Angela and Dwight were having their talk, Phillip Halpert and Emily Scott were preparing for the wedding of their siblings.
"So, what do you think?" Phillip Halpert asked.
"I think it needs a little touch. Plus, I wouldn't add anymore more exquisite detail. My brother's down-to-earth. Not really larger than life," Emily stated.
"Same with my sis. You know, it's kind of ironic. How I ended up on the same team as your brother, being able to get along with him, win a Superbowl, be each other's bro-in-laws, and finally move to another team," Halpert said.
"Yeah. What are you thinking off?" Emily asked.
"Probably the Rams or the Chargers," Halpert suggested.
"Why? So you can get close to me?" Emily questioned.
"You don't want to be close?" Halpert asked.
"Actually, I do want to be close. I started realizing that this long-distance isn't exactly working for me. And I'm glad you want to sign with those teams," Emily said. "If you're looking for a good defense, go for the Rams. You know their defensive coordinator is Hall of Famer Aaron Donald," Emily said.
"Ok, sure," Halpert said with a smile. "And where do the hydrangeas go?"
"Down the left aisle, first row," Emily said.
"Do you know my mom's allergic to hydrangeas?" Halpert said with frustration.
"I do now," Emily nervously said. "Put it on the front of the wedding chapel."
"I'm just playing you," Halpert said while he burst into laughter.
"Why you little!" Emily angrily said before hitting Halpert with hydrangeas.
"Ow!" Halpert yelped while being hit with hydrangeas by Emily.
While Emily and Phillip Halpert are bickering, Benjamin was making a call to someone that sounded like his girlfriend.
"No. Teresa, you don't get it. My brother's wedding is gonna happen in 2 days. If you come to the wedding and my brother finds out who your parents really are, he will lose his shit," Benjamin said over the phone. "No, I'm not being dramatic! I'm serious! Listen, I'll call you back after the wedding. And please don't come."
After Benjamin ended his call, he made sure no one was watching him or secretly listening to him.
Minding his own business, he started to read news about the trailer of Enchantment, where news about Jay Sharma and Jeff Sharma are revealed to be identical twins. Surprised, he kept on reading about Enchantment. He read that Jeff's character, Kevin Dhulipala is a introverted famous comic book author who detests actors due to being extremely artificial and vain. He also read about Samantha Evans's character, Jana Daddario, an Academy-award winning actress and the "next Angelina Jolie."
While reading about Enchantment and its trailer meeting with extremely positive reviews from critics and viewers alike, Benjamin made a mental note to watch the movie in August 11, 2037.
While Michael and Holly were done arranging the wedding venue and decorating it, they decided to talk to Jason.
"Hey dad. I was just keeping the promise made by the Michael Scott's Next-Gen Tots Foundation," Jason said before closing his computer.
"Are you sure you have enough money to fund the Foundation where you pay college tuition for underprivileged kids who hold high GPA and SAT scores?" Michael questioned after learning his lesson about not being able to keep a promise to 3rd Graders despite being invested in them.
"You're the one to talk. You promised to pay those 3rd graders college tuition and look where that led you. You basically were projected to pay over a million bucks. And I earned money 40 times more than that. For that reason, I'm putting 2 million into the Foundation," Jason said.
"Ok, you got me there," Michael said in defeat.
"Well, you kind of hold back on your promises, but that's fine," Jason said. "What do you guys want to talk about?"
"Are you sure about marrying Cecelia?" Michael asked.
"What do you mean?" Jason asked.
"Well, I don't think she's gonna fit in with the family," Michael expressed.
"It's not we're living with you guys. We'll be staying together in whatever city I'm in once I get traded," Jason said.
"Yeah, here's the point. We want you to be happy. And I know Cecelia makes you happy, but she doesn't make us happy," Michael explained.
"What makes you think that she won't make you guys happy?" Jason questioned.
"I'll explain. Your dad thinks that she's gonna give us this insecurity about not being the happiest you've ever been," Holly explained.
"That's why?" Jason said. "You guys are scared that I'll turn out like Toby Flenderson, who left the seminary to marry a woman named Cathy and got divorced?"
"No! Why would you think that? The reason I hated Toby before reconciling with him was because he wasn't enthusiastic enough to make this office fun. Although he did realize that my antics can endanger people, he was pretty boring to be frank," Michael said.
"That's your excuse? My god, dad. Listen, is this about the bad history that our families had? You know that has nothing to do with our relationship or this wedding!" Jason angrily argued.
"Ok, I'm sorry," Michael apologized.
"Dad, I get that it may seem hard for you to accept that I'm growing up too fast. But here's the thing. I love you guys and Cecelia. I love you all more than anything. And I won't let anyone disrupt that love. Not even our own egos and insecurities!" Jason explained.
Listening to Jason gave Michael and Holly renowned confidence that Jason will be really happy with Cecelia. With that in mind, they apologize for their doubt-filled mind, which Jason accepted. As a result, they decide to spend a little time at Poor Richards' Pub.
While Michael, Holly, and Jason head to Poor Richards, Leah is secretly contacting her boyfriend.
"Baby, I love you to meet them. I mean, they can be too eccentric. But not more eccentric than yours. Besides, they'll like you. As long as you don't mess it up. Call me when you reach, Scranton. Love you," Leah said before ending the call.
As Leah saw Jason and her parents leave, she decides to check on Emily, who's busy arranging the flowers and decorations with Phillip Halpert.
"Eminem! Where's Benjamin? I can't find his damn ass!" Leah said.
"Wait, Leah calls you Eminem?" Halpert said, chuckling at the name.
"Don't say that. He's upstairs on the building," Emily said.
While Leah went upstairs, Halpert was smiling at Emily.
"I'm a huge fan of Eminem music. Ok? Even his mashups," Emily said.
"Didn't take you for rap, Em. I'm surprised," Halpert said.
"You should be. I'm full of surprises," Emily said.
"What are they?" Halpert asked romantically.
"One, I'm more of a tomboy than you know," Emily stated. "Two, you were the most charming man I've ever met."
"I'll take both. And we should get going. I believe that the guests will arrive around 3 pm," Halpert said.
"But, don't we need a guest list to make sure those on them are at the wedding?" Emily said.
"Leave that to me. Plus, I uploaded a guest list for everything," Halpert said.
While Halpert looked at the guest list on his computer, he was surprised to see David Wallace's family was invited along with 2 children named Teresa and Teddy Wallace. After overhearing Benjamin talk to someone named Teresa, Halpert deduced that Teresa is probably David's daughter.
Emily realized that Benjamin's probably toast if Jason found out, despite Jason clearing the air between him and Wallace.
"Your brother shouldn't know," Halpert said to Emily.
With Emily in agreement, they decide to not tell Jason about it. If Benjamin gives them what they really want.
