"Alright so for our next project you're going to be working in pairs which have already been chosen!" Professor Carrell shouted over the teenagers who instantly tried to grab their friends, "Alright so that's Mickey and Ianto, Jenny and Jack, Rose and David..."

Rose perked up at the mention of her name. David. She looked over at the brown haired boy who was currently messing with a pair of 3D glasses and a screwdriver.

He looked up at her and waved. She smiled and waved back.

"Alright so no that everyone's paired up, get into your groups. You have to calculate the elliptical orbit of each planet and yes that includes Pluto."

"But Pluto's not even a planet!" Harold protested.

"Yes it is!" half the class yelled back.

Before the class could erupt into the Pluto debate again (it had already happened five times that week) Professor raised their hands. "Alright you lot listen closely, I don't care what lies they tell you..." he looked directly at Harold, "Pluto is a planet, now get to work!"

Rose laughed at the expression on Harold's face nd then turned to find her partner.

"Ello Rose," David said, practically vaulting over the row of desks that separated them, "Look's like we'll be working together, I'm David."

"I know," Rose said smiling, "We met at the Christmas party, you're Chris's brother right?"

"Correctamundo," David said, "A word I have never used before and hopefully never will again, which planet do you want to do first?"

"Mercury I suppose."

"Mercury is cool, you know a year there only last 88 earth days but a day there lasts 176. The day is longer than the year! How crazy is that? Not to mention its one of the only planets in our solar system with no moons or rings and... I'm rambling aren't I. I'll stop."

"No you're fine I was enjoying it."

"Really? Most people tell me to shut up by now."

"I'm used to it, your brother does the exact same thing."

"He does?"

"Oh yeah," Rose said.

"Hey can you tell me how you to met? Cause I asked Chris and he's really tight lipped about it."

"Probably cause he's embarrassed."

"Oh well, now I have to know the story."

"He set the chemistry classroom on fire."

David burst out laughing, "No way!"

Rose grinned and nodded, "Yep."

"Oh that is brilliant."

"Your gonna hold that over him forever aren't you?"

"Oh yes!"

"Smith! Tyler!" Mr. Carell yelled.

"Yes sir,"

"There's alot of laughing going on for math, get back to work."

"Yes sir."

They both looked down at their papers trying to laugh.

"So, what do you think of Pluto as a planet?" Rose asked after they worked for a few minutes. She expected him to say no so she was surprised by his response.

"Absolutely it's a planet."

"Really?"

"Oh yeah," He said seriously, "Ceres too. It makes it much more fun you know?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I mean they discover stuff, find out that Pluto and Ceres don't fit this definition of what a planet should be, and suddenly we have 8 planets. It should be ten. Expand the definition, make it so there's more to explore instead of just confining us to eight."

"You can't be serious," Harold sneered at him from a few desks away

"What?"

Harold rolled his eyes, "Getting so emotional. It's a rock in space get over it."

"Oh really? Get over it? I seem to recall a certain someone bursting into tears when they found out it wouldn't be a planet anymore."

Harold glared at him, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh sure you don't."

"Smith! Masters!"

"Yes sir getting to work," David said turning back to Rose, "Where were we?"

"We were on Mars."

They spent the rest of class working with David randomly spouting out facts about the planets. Math definitely wasn't Rose's strong suit, but David actually seemed to enjoy the calculations. Finally the bell rang and they began to pack up their stuff.

"Well, until next time Rose Tyler," David said grinning at her.

"Do you want to come eat lunch with me?" she asked.

He looked taken aback, "Really?"

"Yeah really."

"Uh sure. I would love to," He said smiling at her.

She smiled back, "Let's go then."

"Allons-y Rose Tyler," He said grabbing her hand. She didn't let go till they got to the cafeteria.

So this is a oneshot from a bigger AU that I'm thinking about doing but don't know if I have the time for. This is my first ever doctor who fic so constructive criticism is welcomed!
