Dust kicked up and dragged by the winds. The breeze occasionally whipping through the air as two young wolves perused in the valley. The valley where it happened. The marriage… the accident. Humphrey stood near the ceremonial stone. The ceremonial stone held more than just marriages. It operated as a graduation ceremony for the up-and-coming Alphas. But it's main purpose, funerals.
"Do you think they are going to give up hope?" Humphrey pondered.
Lily sat down on the right side of the ceremonial stone. "Come here Humphrey." Humphrey reluctantly stepped inside the stone. "A little to the right." The wolf unwillingly complied.
"I understand that you are afraid, but hope is a very fragile thing. If you look to someone else for hope it is already destroyed." The grey wolf shifted his head down in tears, "If you truly have hope you don't need someone else's reassurance. So, Tell me Humphrey." Lily's white paw gently placed on the grey wolf's paw with care as to protect him. "Do you still have hope?"
Humphrey withheld his answer. His silence conveying the truth, as a gust slowly blew past them. Lily continued with a soft and caring whisper, "You deserve love more than anyone in this pack. You've worked so hard and gained so little in return." The white wolf lifting Humphrey's muzzle with her soft paw. Lily and Humphrey's eyes connect, "The pack thanks you for brining Kate back… I thank you."
The grey wolf's heartbeat pounding filled with trust. Humphrey cracked a small smile, "You give me hope." His sapphire eyes closed with tears. Slowly lifting his head into the sky. The breeze moving his silver fur in a delicate flow.
