Preface: Hello, everyone! This is the third installment of my one-shot series, and this one's a companion of sorts to Sonic's Log, only this time it switches between Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic's perspectives during the events of Chaos Haven. Hope you enjoy!

Coup D'etallic

[Party Selected: Dr. Eggman, Metal Sonic]
[Worlds: Egg Reverie Zone, Mobius, Whisker Planet]
[Locations: Phantom Wasteland, Dr. Eggman's Lab, Death Egg Model S]

[Dr. Eggman, Log 1]

[BGM: Turret 3471 - Dr. Robotnik's Theme (AoSTH)]

I, Dr. Robotnik, have let my hubris get the better of me.

When I first discovered that a Phantom Ruby had appeared, I was so determined to keep a hold of it that I tried to keep those Hard-Boiled Heavies controlled, despite their newfound free will. It was almost like the ruby was controlling me - I unleashed my Death Egg Robot in the Green Hill Zone, for crying out loud!

And then, I used Sonic's sudden absence after my first plan to gather the Chaos Emeralds, but he still defeated me anyway. When I discovered that the Heavy Magician had survived, I was so desperate that I tried performing my Phantom Ruby plan exactly as I did it before.

And now, here I am, trapped in this stupid pocket dimension where Sonic defeated me the first time. But I'm not going to sit here and wallow, like what I did when the Death Egg was brought down for good. I am going to begin working on getting out of this place.

I just hope that blasted hedgehog doesn't take advantage of my absence like I did with his.

I have everything I need to unleash my plan. Tomorrow will be the beginning of preparations.

Apologies, I am getting ahead of myself.

As soon as Little Planet began to return to its proper place, I was inclined to believe that Master had been defeated by my copy once more. Using what energy I had left from my damaged body, I transferred my AI to one of the backup bodies made for me. Master was smart to add that when he unleashed his plan on Isolated Island - I still remember how difficult it was to fly all the way to the Mad Gear Zone on Mirage Island.

As soon as I found myself in my new body, I noticed that Master was not in his lab. The body I had chosen, however, had a small recreation of his mind included, so not only did I have his incredible intelligence, but I could sense it - he was still there, but trapped in a pocket dimension.

I knew his birthday was coming up, and so, in his honor, I decided to put into action an incredible plan to show Mobius what he can truly do. But I was not going to do it on Mobius - I was going to do it in another dimension.

Infiltrating the lab of my copy's uncle, Sir Charles Hedgehog, I found an invention of his - the Dimensional Displacement Capacitor. I stole the plans for this contraption, for it will be how I will find the right dimension.

Another set of plans I stole were for what seems to be artificial recreations of the Phantom Ruby titled Phantom Ruby Prototypes. Based on Charles' notes, it seems these duplicates have the same properties and power of the ruby, but are less durable and take much perfection before they can be determined undefective.

Through several attempts and trial and error, I have created a perfect Phantom Ruby Prototype. And now, I have found the perfect dimension - a world inhabited by animals that are somehow both mobians and mobini. There is this silly little kingdom named Whisker Haven, and that is where I shall begin…

Oh, and I also found Master's work playlist. It could be because I have a small recreation of his mind, but I found it strangely enticing. Apparently, he likes Elton John a little too much.

[Dr. Eggman, Log 2]

After many hours of searching, I have finally discovered my way out of here - the blasted Phantom Ruby went with me to this pocket dimension. But I am not going to use it for my own selfish reasons anymore. I have read that when a Phantom Ruby is destroyed or exits the dimension it is currently in, all effects it had on that dimension are instantly undone.

My collection of tools were sucked in alongside me, but they seem almost useless. My hammer, which I specially made to smash and pound in anything, only created a small chip in the ruby.

But I also have several scrap materials from the ruins of my glorious Titanic Monarch Zone. With these, I should be able to create the right device to spell the end to this blasted ruby. But based on my previous experiments with the ruby, it may require a good amount of trial and error. I may be here for a while…

[Metal Sonic, Log 2]

My takeover will be a swift and utter coup d'etat. Those silly animals will have no clue what hit them.

Apologies again. I really need to work on not getting ahead of myself.

The Dimensional Displacement Capacitor worked like a charm, sending me to the world I located. Stealthily, I began to look for the correct place to set up my base of operations. I was surprised to find Little Planet in this dimension - I have no clue how it got here, but I did not squander the opportunity. I flew right above Little Planet and activated one of the Phantom Ruby Prototypes I created. Right before my eyes, a brand new Death Egg was created, with my own personal touch.

That's when I started preparing. Don't ask me why, but I brought along those nincompoops Scratch and Grounder to assist me. Surprisingly, they made very good production line workers for Badniks. While they were doing that, I traveled onto Little Planet. The mobini there made the perfect vessels for the Badniks, but that wasn't the only reason I went there. I also gathered all seven Time Stones, and this time, I will keep my control over them much tighter than Master's first attempt at taking over the satellite.

Of course, I knew I wasn't going to succeed based on that alone. As I went into the Special Zone to search for the Time Stones, I also found the Chaos Emeralds, which would be essential in my defensive line. As I searched for them, however, I also found the six Chaos Rings, which were created from their energy on Isolated Island. If they worked for me the first time, then they shall be my backup plan.

Now that my production is nearly complete, it is time for my takeover. Like I said, it shall be a swift and utter coup d'etat.

[Dr. Eggman, Log 3]

I think I found the Phantom Ruby's weakness: Mega Mack.

Some canisters of the fluid from my Titanic Monarch laboratory got sucked in with the rubble. I was using the scrap materials to create some sort of laser that would destroy the ruby, and I was just about to fire it, when suddenly, some of the tea-like substance I was able to find ingestible spilled all over it, causing it to short out. I was so frustrated I began jumping up and down in anger. The rumbles resulted in a vat of Mega Mack spilling onto the ruby. I stared in awe as part of the ruby melted.

I smiled sinisterly, for I had finally discovered how I will be able to leave this blasted pocket dimension once and for all. I would create a new laser from the Mega Mack, and once I fire it, I'll be able to kiss this place goodbye!

[Metal Sonic, Log 3]

I did not leave a single animal behind when I went in. Every single one in that silly kingdom is in my grasp. The last one, a frail white puppy, is in the control area. It seems I was only able to capture their hummingbird companion in a capsule, however.

Nevertheless, one of the things I expected had occurred - my loathsome copy and his friends have arrived. That blasted echidna was one of the first to arrive, so I grasped the opportunity to snatch the Master Emerald while he wasn't looking. And all sorts of Badniks had been set to attack them. But they're as persistent as I am - unfortunately, the body I am in right now has incomplete attack circuits, so I was forced to use an Egg Mobile with a boxing glove add-on to take care of them.

It seems they are now on their way to Little Planet, but I have more tricks up my sleeve. I ordered Scratch and Grounder to unleash my pack of SWATBots to attack the heroes, while I am preparing to unleash an invention of mine.

I call it the Hyper Metal Sonic, and it is inspired by the Phantom Ruby Prototypes in that they are duplicates of myself. I plan on using one of the first models, powered by one of those animals, to battle my copy in the Stardust Speedway Zone, just as I first battled him.

I know exactly who to use for this model - this kitten who seems to be the puppy's best friend. That is sure to break her spirit…

[Dr. Eggman, Log 4]

[BGM: Mitsuhiro Tada - Sunset in Eggmanland]

It seems I was wrong to write down that the Phantom Ruby's weakness is Mega Mack - it is a totally massive amounts of pressure. It seems when I spilled the liquid onto the ruby and it melted, that was because it was practically thrown onto the ruby.

It appears I may need more energy than Mega Mack to power this laser if what I need is pressure. Perhaps it is speed that I need.

Searching through the rubble, I found a monitor with an icon of one of Sonic's shoes on it. From experience, busting this open results in a temporary increase in speed. Perhaps if I mix this with the Mega Mack, I can create the right serum that will destroy the ruby for good!

Regardless, I am making progress. When I fired the laser the first time, more of the ruby was destroyed, and the dimension seemed to collapse slightly. Victory is within my grasp. And as soon as I am out, I shall never trust another eldritch abomination for as long as I shall live.

[Metal Sonic, Log 4]

Slowly, but surely, the heroes are loosening my defenses, and they are currently on their way here, with all seven Time Stones. I was so desperate for victory, I accepted something built by that idiotic Coconuts.

However, I managed to trap Tails in the prison hall, where apparently there has been an escapee. Thankfully, I found that the Hard-Boiled Heavies are still up and running, so I decided to put them in as a method of defense.

Meanwhile, I am using the others' brief blockage to advance my own defenses. I have discovered that the Chaos Emeralds, Master Emerald, and more Phantom Ruby Prototypes I have created serve as just as strong a power source as a living thing. I shall unleash them, alongside other duplicates of my copy that Master has previously built. With all of this power, there should be nothing that can stand in my way.

As for myself, I shall now consult the Chaos Rings to finally take over Whisker Haven. Mobius will finally see how powerful Master can be and give him everything should he return.

[Dr. Eggman, Log 5]

[BGM: Turret 3471 - Dr. Robotnik's Theme (AoSTH)]

The laser worked, and the dimension collapsed around me. There I was, back in my lab...and Metal Sonic, Scratch, and Grounder were there, with the most pathetic birthday stuff I've ever seen.

Apparently, time moves faster in that pocket dimension, so I was gone for weeks! And I almost missed my birthday, too! I may be out, but something tells me that Sonic was the reason for my horrible birthday. I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE THAAAAAAAAAAAAAT HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEDGEHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOG!

[Metal Sonic, Log 5]

Alas, my copy triumphed over me. I was forced to flee back to Mobius and make meager preparations for Master's birthday, after which he suddenly reappeared from the pocket dimension he was trapped in for the past weeks.

I may have been defeated, but I'm not going to let this defeat keep me down. Another invention of Charles' that I noticed was a DMC-12 converted into a time machine. And now, I have another plan in mind.

Prepare, Sonic the Hedgehog, for a taste of time travel!

Postface: I'm actually pretty proud of how this story turned out - I hoe you like seeing how Dr. Eggman got back to Mobius after Sonic Mania Plus's Encore Mode!

Trivia time! I originally created this story as a way of clearing up a few plot holes that I thought was in the original Chaos Haven, such as what Metal Sonic used the Chaos Rings for, as well as how Metal Sonic got the plans for the Phantom Ruby Prototypes. I also included a small nod to the events of Sonic 4! As for Dr. Eggman's perspective, I originally had it be pretty bare-bones. I actually found it a little tricky at first to make it more in-depth so that Dr. Eggman's shared focus could be more highlighted, but then I thought of the liquid that you'd encounter in the Chemical Plant Zone in every single one of its appearances - Mega Mack! Since it was designed to hurt Sonic, I thought it'd be clever at being the one thing that can defeat the Phantom Ruby. But then I thought of the final weapon of Sonic Forces, the Triple Boost, and in a flash of inspiration, I decided that the combined speed of the Sonics and the Avatar was actually incredible pressure. And the Power Sneakers power-up from the Genesis games was the perfect way to include it! And this story ends on a small bit of foreshadowing for Spacehog from Mobius III: Chaos Haven II...

That should be it! Please read, review, and share around, and I'll see you next time! Stay diamond, everyone!
