Chapter 1
The ground was cold, so cold. Metal pressed against his skin. It hurt to lay on it but it hurt to move. He was too tired to move. Heavty cuffs. kept him from lifting his hands. He was lying on his back. No shirt, that's why it was so cold. Nothing felt real, artificial. It was then Naruto realized he was not in the Hidden Leaf Village.
His whole body ached as memories flooded back into his mind. They felt so faded and vivid. There, but untouchable. It came back in chunks. The waterfall, the pain... He'd been fighting. With who…? Right, Sasuke. Sasuke!
Naruto jerked up, opening his eyes. His body burned in protest, the shackles immediately slamming into his wrists, digging on impact. He winced and loosed his hands. He was right. Metal poles and plates were everywhere, running in different directions. The chains connected to the wall, easily replaceable if broken. It was a small room that had only one exit, a door.
Naruto lit up, pushing on his hands to get up.
But his legs wouldn't move. They weren't shackled, he just couldn't move them. They throbbed and were incredibly weak. He sat back down. They weren't moving. That was really bad.
Where was he? Was he with Orochimaru? No, why would he want him… He wasn't home, duh. There didn't seem to be anyone else in the room. Naruto shuffled into a better sitting position. He can't just wait here, can he? Naruto definitely didn't want to. But he can't move his legs…
The thought was cut short as he saw the door swing open.
"Oh, you're awake." A man said, entering the room. He was tall, a large presence in the otherwise empty room. A large orange mask covered all of his face. Only one hole remained. It swirled to the hole, scattered with scrapes and impressions from years of usage. He walked confidently, striding along. His dark black cloak swung with each motion. A single ring hung from his finger. Brown hair spiking upward. He wore a black cloak. Red clouds with white outlines were scattered across it. A cloak he had seen only once before.
He was with the Akatsuki.
Naruto felt fear rise in him. The thought blared through his mind, unrelenting. He knew. He knew why he was here. He had to get out of here. He can't... he can't.
Naruto pushed with all might forward, trying desperately to get closer to the door. The shackles kept him from getting too far.
The man closed the door tightly. Naruto stayed close, the metal shackles breaking skin and bleeding.
"Tsk. Now don't do that, you'll get an infection."
"Let me go!" Naruto said, letting his hands fall behind his back.
The man laughed. It was sharp and mocking, "And why would I do that?"
"Or I'll make you."
He laughed again, his voice echoing through the room.
Naruto smirked and ripped his hands forward, a small blue ball of energy smashing the chains and directed towards the man. The man let it slide through him. Naruto got up, his legs almost crumbling beneath himself, staggered with the attack, falling through the man. The rasengan blew a hole through the door. Naruto yanked himself through. He stumbled, his legs totally giving down, dragging himself.
The man calmly picked him up and threw him back into the room.
"Wow, that was unexpected. You sure are going to be a handful, aren't you? Your legs are nearly broken but you still get up and run."
Naruto glared at the man. Hate boiled and pricked at his skin.
"I'm going to need stronger chains, aren't I? Well now that that's all out of your system, may I introduce myself?"
Naruto glanced at the door, the hole still open.
He had to get out of here. Sasuke still needed him. He can't die here.
Die. Dying… oh no.
"And don't try to run away now, I'm talking to you. My name is Tobi, nice to meet you." Tobi extended his hand, like he wanted him to shake it. He felt a surge of anger and bit at his hand. He jerked his hand away from Naruto, the statement being quite clear.
"Fine then. Apparently your parents never taught you manners. My name is Tobi and I am the leader of the Akatsuki. You are a very special boy, do you know that?"
"Yeeeah, I know," Naruto snapped. He knew why he was here. He knew why they wanted him. Well, why they wanted the Nine Tails. They would kill him, if he stayed there. Technically, Pervy Sage had never said they would, be he figured it out soon enough.
"Then I'll make this simple then. You are going to stay in this room until I say you can come out, alright?"
"Not happening." Naruto said, spitting at him. If he thought he was just gonna give up and die, then he was dead wrong.
"Yes, it will be."
"No, it won't!"
Tobi walked over to Naruto, grabbing his arms. He tried wrangling out of his grasp but couldn't. He took out a sharp gleaming needle, filled with a clear substance. He slid it into his arm, which made Naruto wince. Tobi let go and Naruto immediately tried to move his arms. But he couldn't. They didn't hurt like his legs did, more felt numb and lifeless.
Tobi came back holding a new set of chains and bandages. He wrapped the bandages around his bleeding wrists and put the shackles on. Once he was done, he grabbed Naruto by the hair, wringing it in his hands and yanking him upward to make eye contact.
Naruto stared in the one hole in the mask, the boiling red eye of the Sharingan staring back.
"Yes, yes it will."
