To say that Hiccup and the gang were bored out of their minds was a massive understatement.

After the whole fiasco with the Submaripper, Stoick and the council back on Berk had decided they were going to step up Berk's game when it came to trading, in order to secure the tribe's economic safety and prevent what had happened when their current trade routes were cut off from happening again. Living off of quickly dwindling rations was not a fun experience, especially considering the fact that Berk was pretty much broke at the moment, and it reminded everyone all too much of the food situation back during the war between the Vikings and Dragons.

So, Stoick and the council had sent the gang on their way to fly in an entirely different direction than their normal trade routes, towards a foreign country that was both friendly and rich, so that they could negotiate and set up a new trade route.

The problem was, it was really far away. The Dragon Riders had been flying for hours straight, and they still weren't even halfway there. The Edge had been left in the care of the A-Team and a couple of other dragon-riding Berkians, so they weren't really worried about it being attacked in their absence. What was the real kicker, though, was that it was incredibly boring.

"I spy with my good eye..." Tuffnut squinted, hanging upside-down from Belch's head as he spoke, "..Something that is blue."

"The ocean?" Ruffnut answered monotonously, resting her chin on Barf's head.

"Bingo!" Tuffnut replied, "Wow, ten in a row, you're really good at this game!"

"That's 'cause there's nothing out here but ocean, stupid," Ruffnut responded grumpily, "Are we there yet?"

"Not even halfway," Hiccup sighed, checking his map and compass for the hundredth time. Why, oh, why did this place have to be so far away?

"I can feel my brain melting," Snotlout complained, looking as if he was about to fall asleep at any second.

"You have a brain?" Was Astrid's witty reply.

"Shut up, Astrid."

As he had done many times in the past, whenever he was either stressed or bored, Fishlegs had begun humming. He'd gotten tired of humming even his favourite lullaby for fifty rounds straight, and a lullaby wasn't exactly going to keep him awake on this flight, so he was humming a different, more quickly-paced tune.

Oddly enough, Tuffnut had taken notice and started humming as well.

And like the flick of a candle fire, he suddenly had an idea.

"There once was a longship, put to sea," He sang quietly to the tune of Fishlegs' humming, "And the name of that ship, was the Lucky Thirteen.."

"The winds blew hard," sang Ruffnut, joining in, "Her bow dipped down,"

'Oh, why not', Snotlout thought, he was bored enough, "bully me, bully boys, blow!"

Fishlegs chuckled at their antics, and soon, his humming had turned into whistling. Hiccup and Astrid decided to join in, and the rest of the Riders ended up bursting into song.

"Soon, may the warriors come! To bring us mutton, and sheep, and rum!"

"One day, when the tonguing is done, we'll take our leave and go!"

They sang the little shanty for who-knows-how-long, and by the end of it, they were all laughing together, morale high and minds awake. The dragons all chuckled fondly at their riders' shenanigans, sometimes lending their own voices to the song, growling low and rhythmically like musical instruments.

And before they even knew it, they were almost there.

"Soon, may the warriors come! To bring us mutton, and sheep, and rum!"

"One day, when the tonguing is done, we'll take our leave and go!"
