Chapter Four
Halloween was always Keith's favorite holiday. Getting to dress up as characters from shows or movies, getting candy, and spending time with friends.
This year, he didn't know what to be. That was, until Lance asked him to be Morticia from The Addams Family.
Lance said that his friend Pidge is going to be Wednesday, his friend Hunk is going to be Pugsley, and Nyma was going to be Morticia, but she ended up going as someone else with her boyfriend.
Lance had also said Keith 'looked just like her.' With his jet black hair, pale skin, and tall frame. He also said he could be a vampire, and after he said that, suggested a 'Vampire Morticia' but that thought got delayed by Rosa saying no.
Keith hadn't ever really watched The Addams Family. Only really knew it was popular and a classic Halloween movie and, in Lance's words, got remade to something worse in the future.
(My actual opinion on the newer Addams Family.)
He and Lance has hung out a bit over the week. Keith started to see that he was very passionate about his friends and family and would do anything for them. He also learned he really cares about beauty care. Last Thursday, Shiro and Rosa had some things to discuss about the land and Lance and Keith hung out a bit. Lance showed Keith his beauty care items and, oh geez. Lance had at least 40 different masks and headbands. He said, they all have different purposes, a few for hydration, a couple for moisturizer, at least 10 pore ones, and some random masks.
Keith refused to put one on when it was time for Lance to do it. They ended up just doing their nails, Keith red and Lance blue.
When they left, Shiro had laughed and said something about them doing nails was pretty gay. Keith just ignored him and his face heat.
"Keith! We're leaving!" Adam's voice rung through the house.
Keith shouted an okay and finished tying his sneakers.
They were going Halloween costume shopping with Lance, and his friends Pidge and Hunk.
Keith, Shiro, and Adam all walked over to the McClain's house and knocked on the door.
Rosa opened the door and told them to come in.
When they walked in, Keith got a whiff of a pumpkin spice scented candle. He could see the candle on the coffee table in the middle of the living room they walking into. Three plain, simple brown sofas around it with a TV off to the side wall. On the right side, an open door way lead to a kitchen with a small dining table that had higher legs and chairs.
"Happy Halloween!" Jose said as he walked into the living from somewhere down a hallway from the other side of room.
"Happy Halloween." Shiro smiled.
A dog, a golden retriever Keith guessed, coat a light blonde, with some gray hairs, came toppling down the stairs from next to the hallway. Keith heard a shout, probably the dog's name, to slow down and take it easy.
The dog wiggled over to Shiro, tail wagging very swiftly, like the dog was going to fall over if it kept wagging.
"Oh, hello Mari!" Shiro cooed at the dog, scratching behind the dog's ear. "Keith, this is Marianna. She's the McClain's golden retriever." Shiro said as he saw Keith's confused expression.
Keith nodded.
"Mari!" A voice called from up the steps, a voice that was pretty familiar. "Take your time down the steps!" The owner of the voice sounded closer then before, like they were coming down the steps. Then, out of the corner of the hallway, he saw Lance approaching, in bath robe with a towel on his head. He had something on his face, most likely a face mask, but Keith just watched as he entered the room, his tall, lanky structure walking, and it was mesmerizing.
"Mijo!" Rose called from the other side of the sofa. "Put some clothes on." She huffed, annoyed.
"Sorry, mami." Lance mumbled. And picked up Marianna and said to her, "Come on, back upstairs." Mari's wiggling body slowly changed to just a small tail wag as he carried her up the stairs.
"Why did he need to carry her?" Keith asked out of sheer curiosity as he saw Lance disappear fully up the steps.
"She has bad hips. Hard to walk up and down stairs. That's why Lance got all jittery when she ran down them." Shiro shrugged as he said.
Keith nodded again, which he seemed to be doing often today. He just didn't seem like talking, he guessed. Or he was shy about it being in a new environment. He gets like that in places he's new with. He didn't talk a lot the first few days at Shiro and Adam's and he didn't really when he hung out with Lance.
Rosa had them sit down on the sofas until Lance's friends arrived and they were ready to leave. Shiro and Adam were taking them all in Rosa's van she was letting them borrow.
A few minutes later when Rosa gave them some tea and coffee, Lance came toppling down the steps with Mari at his feet and he said a good morning, and opened the door and ran out.
Keith guessed his friends were outside and they texted him or something to come outside.
Another few moments later, he pranced in the door with two people, who had to be his friends. One very tall and muscly man that looked like a huge tank and one very short and geeky looking gremlin.
The smaller one waved and gave a sup, and the tank like young man gave a shy wave and smile.
"Keith, this is Pidge and Hunk. Shiro and Adam, don't know if you've ever met because this is their first time here with you guys here." Lance said.
"Oh, we've met." Adam smiled as he sipped his tea.
Lance looked a bit confused at that. "Really?"
Adam nodded. "Their in my physics class, Lance."
Lance made an O shape with his mouth. "I.. didn't know that."
Pidge punched Lance's arm. "Yeah, doofus. You didn't tell us Mr. Wright was your neighbor."
Adam smiled at her sentence. "Please, out of school, call me Adam."
They both nodded. "Anyways," Pidge said turning to Shiro. " you're the famous Shiro? Adam's always telling stories about you in class when he has time." Pidge had a cheeky smile on their face.
Shiro coughed and hid his blush behind his coffee mug. Adam cleared his throat, like, he was trying to tell them to shut up.
Pidge did after that and Lance announced it was time to leave for the costumes, they waved and said goodbye, and piled into Rosa's van.
When they got there, the bright lights on the front gave away the name and mascot. A huge skeleton with the planet in his arms. The skeleton looked like the Grim Reaper, which he probably was with his long dark robe.
Adam parked the van they had spent the last half hour in, and they all piled out and walked into the store.
"Hello everyone!" A voice said. It sounded very feminine, and very British. A woman with dark skin and hair with some silver in it. She had a strapping on her chest that looked like the ones you would hold a baby with. And then Keith noticed a baby in the strapping with the same dark skin and small tuffs of brown hair on the baby's head. It also looked like she had a small baby bump on her stomach as well. "How was the drive?" She smiled.
"Hey 'Lura." Shiro smiled. "It was okay."
"And how's little Carson?" Lance cooed, walking up to the woman and started to play with the baby on her chest. "And how's little miss Olivia?" Lance asked the woman.
The woman sighed. "Getting bigger, so more kicking, but besides that, good. Carson also is starting to stand on the baby gates." Lance nodded understandably. Her gaze turned towards Keith. "Who's this?" She smiled.
Shiro walked up and put his hand on Keith's shoulder. "Allura, this is Keith. Keith, this is Allura. We practically grew up together."
The woman, Allura, nodded. "Yes, my father and your mother were very good friends." She smiled. "Anywho, Lotor, Coran, Romelle, and Lizzie are all in the back. Just call if you need anything. I have to be going back to work now. My lunch break is almost over." Allura waved and said goodbye and disappeared into an isle.
The six of them continued into the isle where Addams' Family costumes were supposed to be and picked their sizes.
On their way to the cashier desk, they encountered Coran, the manager and Allura's great uncle, and Allura's husband, Lotor.
Shiro once again introduced everyone and they continued on their way.
The girl manning the cash register was Romelle, Coran's granddaughter and Allura's best friend. When they were all finished, they waved goodbye. And, of course, on their way out, a little girl, probably around 8 years old, waved them goodbye. Lance said that she was Lotor's daughter and Allura's stepdaughter, Elizabeth, but Lizzie for short.
Keith didn't want to know the story, or anything really because she was very, and he means very, energetic. Even more then Sylvio and Nadia, and their pretty energetic.
Lance smiled and waved back as they headed out of the Halloween store and once again piled into the van.
That night, trick or treating was pretty enjoyable. Keith had a lot more fun then he thought he would.
He got along with Pidge nicely and Hunk was full of love, probably the opposite of Pugsley.
Lance got a kick out of a few costumes and laughed an awfully cute belly laugh, which Keith will definitely not admit he felt a flutter in his chest.
The rest of the night was fun, and after they all finished trick or treating at the town hall, because there weren't a lot of houses up where they lived, they went back to Shiro and Adam's house and sat in the backyard around a fire pit.
Yes, this was probably the most enjoyable night of October so far.
