Chapter 4 Making Plans

Every evening of the last week had gone the same for Hermione Granger. At six o'clock on the dot, Draco came to her office to work on some overdue paperwork. At least that was the pretense they had concocted. What really happened was they made small chit chat and spent the best part of an hour in a passionate kissing session. The first few days time had purely been frenzied kisses with a bit of hair stroking and the occasional fondling. But on the seventh evening things were different. Draco had pulled Hermione up onto her desk, sending parchment flying everywhere as he laid her down across the desk. But as Hermione was hitching her leg over Draco's hip he suddenly leaned up letting out a long exasperated sigh.

"Why did you stop?" Hermione said with a disappointed tone.

Draco paused for a moment before looking at her. A serious look spread across her face.

" I can't do this." He told her as he gently untangled her leg from his waist and got into a seating position.

"Can't do what?" Hermione asked, pulling herself up to sit beside him. "Draco. I thought we both agreed that this was the distraction we both needed?"

Draco turned to look at her smirking as he gently stroked her cheek.

"No. That's right. I'm fine with this. I promise. It's just becoming difficult to control myself around you."

Hermione felt her face blush as she realised what he was getting at. Straightening out her skirt she got up and walked a few steps away from him only speaking once her back was safely turned away from him.

"You mean. You want sex?"

From behind her Draco rolled his eyes. He hated it when she assumed the worst in him.

He strolled up behind her to wrap his arms around her waist and placed a sweet kiss on her cheek.

"It's not just about sex Hermione. I would like to spend some time with you away from this office. Out in the open. Sharing a glass of wine in a pub. Eating some food. Being able to have a proper conversation."

Hermione turned around to face him so they're heads were inches apart.

"It does sound nice. I do want all of it. But it's just…"

"Just what Hermione?"

"The moment I cross that line. This fling or whatever we call it becomes a whole other thing." Hermione told him.

Draco looked into her eyes and raised his eyebrows suspiciously.

"That's not all. There's something else. I can tell."

"OK. It's really embarrassing." She finally admitted as she removed her arms from his neck and rubbed them across her face. "I've only ever slept with one person. Ron. I'm nervous that I won't be any good."

Draco looked at her sympathetically.

"Well I did sleep with a few people before I got married to Astoria. But I'm just as worried as you are. There's been no one since Astoria. Sleeping with someone that isn't my wife and for the first time since she passed away. That's going to be difficult for me."

"Oh god!" Hermione groaned as she pulled Draco into her arms "I'm so sorry Draco I didn't think about that."

"Don't worry." He told her as they broke apart.

"What are we doing?" Hermione said incredulously.

"I don't know." Draco admitted. "If I'm being honest I don't understand it either. All I know is ever since you visited me that first time I've not stopped thinking about you. About kissing you about touching you. Just you."

At that moment he pulled Hermione close to him pressing a gentle kiss to her lips.

"It's the same for me too." She whispered.

"So let's make a plan. We'll try and get away somewhere where no one can see us."

Hermione's eyes lit up suddenly. A thought just occurred to her.

"Draco! I've got it! My Aunt. She has a country house. We could go there. No one uses it since she passed away and no one would know us. We wouldn't have to worry or hide."

As she told him her plan he cradled closer to her the words were soothing and the idea inviting.

"Sounds perfect." Draco murmured into her lips.

Just as they were about to seal their secret plan with a kiss, the handle of Hermione's office door began to rattle heavily. They broke apart immediately. Thank god the door was locked. Hermione thought to herself. But what happened next caused more alarm.

"Hermione! Are you there? Open the door!"

She instantly recognised the deep tone of her husband's voice.

"Oh no!" Hermione hissed. "It's Ron!"

"Why are you whispering? I put a silencing charm around the room."

Hermione batted Draco on the shoulder in annoyance. He seemed far too calm in this situation and it infuriated her.

"You need to go. Now!" Hermione snapped at him.

Draco looked around helplessly.

"How do you propose I do that?"

Hemione suddenly noticed the fireplace standing in the middle of her office another quick idea appeared into her mind. Rushing over to the fire she quickly lit it before grabbing a box of powder and strolling over to Draco holding it out to him.

"Flu powder!" She insisted. "It will get you straight back to Malfoy Manor!"

Draco nodded in agreement as he leaned towards her lips.

"No time for that! Just go!" Hermione ordered as she pushed him towards the fireplace.

Letting out a dissatisfied sigh Draco muttered under his breath as he begrudgingly grabbed the Flu Powder and stepped into the fireplace. With a sudden announcement of Malfoy Manor and a flash of green light Draco was gone. One problem solved, now another to attack. Quickly checking her appearance in her mirror, Hermione quickly fixed her hair before grabbing her wand to remove the charm. By the time she got to the door she was able to put on a casual facade, whilst Ron stood red faced and looking visibly annoyed.

"What's wrong sweetheart?" She asked him.

"I've been waiting. Why didn't you answer straight away? Why was the door locked?"

"I'm sorry darling. I fell asleep. I only woke up once you started shouting. Also I lock the door when I work and Ethel isn't here to avoid anyone pestering me."

Hermione was shocked at how easily she was able to lie when put on the spot. She was even more surprised by Ron's acceptance of the lie.

"OK." He said simply. "Well I came to get you in case you forgot. Harry and Ginny are round for dinner tonight." Hermione's face was vacant. "You forgot didn't you?"

Hermione shook her head insistently.

"No I didn't. I just lost track of time. Well luckily I've had a stew cooking all day. What time are they arriving again? "

"Now." Ron announced as he mentioned to his watch. "It's 7:30pm"

"Oh goodness. Let me grab my stuff and we'll leave."

Rushing back into her office for her things, Hermione felt at ease. The panic and fear of being caught was replaced by the excitement of the idea of being alone with Malfoy.

A couple of hours later Hermione and Ron were sitting around their table, laughing away with their best friends Harry and Ginny. Lily and Hugo were safely tucked upstairs in bed so the four parents were able to partake in some light drinking. Hermione noticed that for once the tension between her and Ron was less present. Whilst they weren't as connected as Harry and Ginny who sat arms wrapped around each other Ron did at least have one arm half heartedly around her shoulder. Having spent a great deal of time with Draco and being close to him and holding him, the lack of romance between herself and Ron was more apparent than ever. But Hermione tried not to think of Draco in Ron's presence.

"So Ginny. Are you thinking of returning to work when Lily goes to Hogwarts?" Hermione asked her taking a sip from her wine glass.

Ginny paused as she clutched at Harry's hand affectionately. Hermione noticed that they shared such an adoring look for one another. She couldn't remember the last time Ron had looked at her that way.

"Well." Ginny began. "They're may not be a reason for me to go back to work."

Her and Harry shared a sweet smile before he gestured at her to continue talking.

"Harry and I are going to have another baby."

The news was met with shock all around. Hermione was stunned into silence and she noted a sad look across Ron's face. She knew given their recent arguments on the subject that this would be upsetting to him. Fighting off her feelings of worry and guilt towards Ron, Hermione decided to just feel happiness for their friends.

"Wow!" Hermione gasped. "A fourth baby!"

Ron also seemed to have taken Hermione's approach.

"That's amazing news! Congratulations!"

The two of them got up from their chairs to hug and congratulate their friends. Once settled back in their chairs they had many questions.

"So was this planned? Or a surprise?" Hermione asked them with a smile.

"Well. After Lily we really thought we were done." Harry spoke this time. "But then when Lily was eight we thought we would try for one more baby. But nothing was happening. So we decided that if it didn't happen by the time I was 40 we would just be grateful for what we had."

"So you were trying for two years?" Ron exclaimed in shock.

"Yeah. We had just about given up and then all of a sudden I got pregnant." Ginny told them excitedly. "Now I'm three months along. We're telling Mum and the rest of the family at the next family dinner. Lily and the boys know and they're just so excited!"

"Well we're so happy for you!" Hermione said with a smile. Hermione noticed out of the corner of her eye that Ron rolled his eyes at her comment but chose to ignore it.

"Thanks." Harry and Ginny both said together as they happily leaned in for a kiss.

"Why don't I get us some more wine?" Hermione suggested as she got up to the kitchen. She noticed whilst she was in there a familiar looking owl perched on the windowsill, realising no one else had noticed she quickly grabbed the bit of parchment and stuffed it into the pocket of her trousers. By the time she had done this the owl had flown off into the night. Wanting to read the parchment that very second, Hermione quickly found an excuse.

"Hey we haven't got the wine I'm after I'm going to check the shed." She called out as she walked towards the back door.

"Hurry up!" Ron ordered.

Once safely outside, Hermione muttered lumos under her breath so she could read the note under some lighting. Eagerly opening it she was pleased to see some familiar handwriting.

Hermione

I hated not saying goodbye to you earlier. I can't wait to be alone with you. Let's go to your Aunt's place this weekend. Tell Ron you're going away for work. I can't wait any longer to be alone with you! Please don't change your mind. I need this. You need this. We need this.

Draco

Hermione smiled to herself. The words indicated a longing for her that felt so romantic and lustful. Holding the note close to her chest she felt something she hadn't felt in a long time. Happy.
