The love from you guys is just unreal to me. Thank You all for taking the time to read my story and leave reviews-good, bad, or otherwise. I know that since this isn't a Babe story, a lot of people don't really like it or agree with my twist. But after reading the Plum series for years, I just don't see Stephanie ever maturing or changing her mind on having a family. But I'm a sucker for a happy ending with lots of babies since I have five kiddos of my own! Again, Thank You from the bottom of my heart for reading my story.
(Also, if you notice any mistakes or if the formatting is weird/hard to read, please send me a message and I will fix it!)
Ch. 22
Amy stopped in the control room on her way to her office. There were a few guys watching monitors and one guy manning the phone. "How did the night go?"
Stan, the newest member of the team turned to Amy, "Pretty quiet. There's a summary and a report on your desk Mrs. Manoso."
Amy smiled, "Stan, you can call me Amy."
Lester chuckled as Stan's cheek turned a little pink. "Ranger said I was to call you Mrs. Manoso."
Amy rolled her eyes. "Ranger is not going to fire you if you call me Amy. Lester, can you reassure Stan?"
"Oh I don't know, Mrs. Manoso, Ranger likes everyone to be professional."
Amy scowled at Lester and pointed her finger at him. "Lester, that is the first time you have ever called me Mrs. Manoso. Stop scaring the poor guy!"
There was a noise behind her so Amy looked and found Phil behind her. "Phil, what's my name?"
Phil looked nervous at being put on the spot but cautiously answered, "Amy."
"Ha! Thank You!" She turned back to Stan, "If you ever have any questions, please just come ask me. Don't trust Lester."
Lester laughed. "Tank called in already, their plane should be in tomorrow around two."
Amy nodded, "Thanks Lester. I'll see you guys later."
Amy grabbed the summary of the issues that came up overnight, along with the report on the FTA that was caught and then went to the conference room for the Wednesday morning weekly meeting. A couple of people were already there, but there was still about ten minutes before the meeting was supposed to start. She took a seat at the head of the table, a seat she was definitely not accustomed to sitting in for these meetings, and waited for everyone to join them before starting the meeting.
Half an hour later Amy was on her way back to her office. She was thankful that there wasn't a whole lot of new business to discuss so that the meeting was short and easy for her. She was looking down at some of the reports and paperwork she had gotten from other departments at the meeting when she walked into her office. The second she walked through her door she knew someone was in there without even looking up. What surprised her was who the person was.
"Carlos!" She said on a gasp as she looked up to see him sitting in her chair. She walked right over, dumped all of her paperwork on the desk, and then met him as he made his way around her desk and immediately wrapped his arms around her and literally swept her off of her feet. "I thought you weren't coming back until tomorrow." She said into his neck, she refused to lessen her hold on him to look at her as she talked.
"I wasn't spending one more night away from my girls." He finally urged her to release him so he could look at her. He just smirked as he leaned down and sealed his mouth over hers. He really hadn't intended to do more than give her a quick kiss. But a couple of minutes later Carlos was sitting on her desk with Amy sitting on his lap, a knee on either side of his hips. Amy was about to start pulling his shirt off when she suddenly remembered where they were.
"Oh shit." She whispered as she finally pulled back from Carlos.
She started to remove herself from his lap but he kept her firmly in place with both of his hands on her thighs.
"I'm kind of embarrassed to admit this, but if anyone comes in that door I'm going to have to try to hide a massive hard on." Carlos looked like he almost could have a little pink on his cheeks.
Amy just smiled. "Or we could go upstairs and make good use of it."
Carlos smiled, "I would love to, though it'll have to wait for lunch. I really do need to go tackle a few things in my office." Carlos groaned. "I don't want to leave your office."
"I don't want you to leave my office. I can't believe how much I missed you." Amy grabbed his face with her hands and pulled his mouth back to hers.
"I know." Carlos held her firmly on his lap, his hands on her hips. "A few hours and we can have a nice private lunch upstairs." He pressed his lips to hers for a few seconds before pulling back. He touched his forehead to hers, and smiled. "Tank is going to walk in on us any second. I don't really want to stop touching you, but you should probably get off of my lap."
Amy groaned, before reluctantly scooting herself backwards and putting her feet back on the floor. "Fine."
"Look at you." He put both hands on the sides of her belly. "I didn't think I was gone long enough for the babies to grow so much."
"They have definitely grown. My pubic bone can attest to that." Amy put her hands over his. "But I can't wait for you to feel them move."
A knock on Amy's door frame interrupted them. "Hey Ames," Tank strode into her office. "Do you have the FTA reports and the notes from this mornings meeting?"
"The FTA reports are already filed away in Carlos' office, except the one from last night; it's on my desk. Along with the notes from the meeting." Amy didn't move to get them.
Carlos stayed where he was a few more moments before finally releasing a breath and pulling his hands off of Amy's growing belly. He turned and grabbed the paperwork they needed. He turned back to Amy, leaned forward and gave her one last kiss, then walked out the door with Tank right behind him.
"Bye Ames!" Tank said just as he disappeared around the corner.
Amy was sitting at the kitchen island in the apartment eating her lunch when the door opened. Carlos walked straight to her, ignoring the open seat next to her that was already set with his lunch. He pulled her chair back, swept her up in his arms and carried her back to the bedroom. He stood her up at the side of the bed, slowly and carefully stripped off every single article of her clothes, before gently lowering her to her back on the bed.
"I am not waiting another minute to have you." He whispered as he straightened back up and divested himself of his own clothes.
"It has been a very long week." Amy said as Carlos leaned down and kissed her ever-growing belly.
"We may need to change positions, I'm not sure this is going to work." Carlos righted himself, grabbed Amy's hands in his, and pulled her up off the bed. "I love you." It came out as more of a groan. Before Amy could really get into the kiss Carlos spun her around and guided her to her hands and knees on the bed. "I'm sorry, this is probably going to be embarrassingly fast."
A moment later Amy gasped as Carlos thrust into her. He bent over her, pressing his chest to her back. "I can't tell you how much I missed this." He kissed her shoulder before righting himself. He slowly pulled out and then quickly thrust back in. Amy moaned, the position and angle were just right, she wasn't going to last any longer than Carlos.
A few minutes later they were laying on their sides on the bed, Carlos was still twitching inside Amy, they were both panting.
"Okay, another minute and then we can get up and eat lunch." Carlos chuckled.
Amy let out a little laugh. She pulled Carlos' hand off of her hip up to her belly. "Well that certainly got the boys moving."
"Boys?!" Carlos sat up, keeping his hand on Amy's stomach. "You didn't seriously find out without me did you?!"
Amy was really laughing. "No, dumbass." She sucked in a breath, "I just really think they're both boys."
Carlos narrowed his eyes at her. "Not funny." He was about to move his hand when he felt something lightly bump his hand. His eyes quickly darted down to her stomach and felt another tiny little bump against his palm. He moved his hand lower and both watched and felt as their babies moved around in Amy's belly. "That's amazing." He whispered.
Amy just smiled, a tear slowly falling down her cheek. Troy hadn't really been into the whole pregnancy and baby thing. He'd been excited to find out she was pregnant, but he didn't go to appointments, he didn't really get excited about feeling Lexi kick inside her belly. It was nice to be with someone who seemed to be enjoying the whole process as much as she was.
"They've been doing that a lot over the last week. And since there's two, I'm sure it won't be long before they're fighting for room and literally being a pain."
"You'll love every minute of it." Carlos said confidently.
"I absolutely will." Amy admitted. "But I'm one of those rare people who love being pregnant. Even when I was huge and uncomfortable with Lexi, I still enjoyed it. And after the complications I had in the beginning with this pregnancy, I will just sit back and enjoy every second."
Carlos leaned down and pressed his lips to hers. He kept his hand on her belly, and had himself propped up with the other. He started to deepen the kiss, fully intending on going again, just a bit slower. Then Amy's stomach growled. Carlos broke the kiss and laughed.
"I guess I need to feed you, and the babies. We can take it slower later, at home."
Amy sighed, "Yeah, when I'm hungry, they're hungry. And they really don't like waiting."
Carlos grabbed onto Amy's hands and pulled her up off the bed.
"Get yourself cleaned up and dressed, I'll warm up our lunch." He quickly pulled his underwear and pants back on, padding barefoot and shirtless out to the kitchen. He was broiling their salmon and roasted veggies in the oven for a few minutes when the front door to the apartment opened.
"Carlos Manoso!" Ella called out his name as if her were a child caught doing something he shouldn't.
"Yes Ella?" He calmly answered.
"I cannot believe you brought your wife up here for a nooner!" She literally tsked at him. "She needs to eat her lunch or those babies make her grouchy."
"Hangry."
"Call it what you want, but you could have waited."
Carlos just shrugged his shoulder then opened the oven and pulled their lunch back out. "It's still my apartment. And this is still my business."
Realizing she wasn't going to make him feel guilty, Ella shooed him away. "I will re-plate your lunch. Go put a shirt on." She waited until Carlos was out of the kitchen before smiling and whispering "Damn kids."
"I heard that!" Carlos called just as he walked through the bedroom door.
"Heard what?" Amy asked as she walked out of the bathroom; fully dressed and her hair back to normal.
"Ella walked in as I was waiting for our lunch to warm up in the oven. Since I didn't have a shirt on she knew what we'd been doing."
Amy just shrugged her shoulders, "Is she surprised?"
Carlos pulled his shirt on and started tucking it back into his pants. When Amy passed by him he leaned down and gave her a quick kiss. "I'm not sure why she's surprised, but she thought it was inappropriate."
Amy tried not to laugh as she walked back out to the kitchen.
"Hi Ella."
"You two are worse than teenagers, I swear." Ella put the plates back on the island just as Carlos joined them.
"How do you think this happened?" Amy teased as she pointed to her belly.
"We're also married." Carlos added as he sat down.
"Incorrigible." Ella muttered. "Eat up, Mrs. Manoso." She said as she pushed their plates in front of them.
Amy took her first couple bites, then looked back up at Ella. "What?"
Ella was smirking at them. "Carlos, I never thought I'd see the day that you'd leave your desk in the middle of the day, because you just had to see your wife."
Carlos put his fork back on his plate, "I guess there's a first time for everything." He put the hand closest to Amy on her knee, and resumed eating his lunch.
Christmas came, and Carlos spoiled Amy and Lexi more than Amy thought was possible. For Lexi he bought a pink and purple little four-wheeler with a matching helmet so she could ride it around the property. She also got a Barbie playhouse. The gift that meant the most though was the necklace with the butterfly pendant, the pendant was made out of genuine gemstones. Amy cried, and Lexi's face lit up like their Christmas tree.
For Amy, he surprised her with a custom-made oak dining room table and chairs that could seat sixteen.
"You've been snooping on my Pinterest account again." She teased as Carlos showed her their newly furnished dining room.
"It's not snooping when you leave it open on your computer." He teased in return.
Amy turned and threw her arms around Carlos' neck. "This is gorgeous. Thank You." She leaned her head back and looked Carlos in the eyes before gently but firmly pushing her lips to his. "I love you." She whispered before returning her lips to his. "It's perfect."
"Well, we needed a dining table. It's not exactly like we can just go shop anywhere for a table to fit this monstrous room." Carlos led Amy over to one of the chairs and pulled it out for her. "Try out the chairs, they're surprisingly comfortable for solid oak chairs."
Amy sat and relaxed into the chair. "Very nice." She ran her hands over the top of the table. "Well my gift for you pales in comparison to this beautiful table."
Carlos exhaled, "Gift giving is not a competition Amy, you have yet to give me a gift I haven't loved."
"I know. But it's not fair that you always come up with the perfect gift every time." She teased, but got up from the table. "Let's go back to the family room."
They got comfortable on the couch again and Amy handed Carlos a box. He watched her for a few moments before tearing off the wrapping paper and opening the box. He smirked when he read the paper on top of the tissue paper. He set the paper aside and lifted the tissue paper to find a print out that said they had reservations at a private beach house along the coast.
"I thought I had already promised you a honeymoon to The Maldives next year after the twins are born."
"You did." Amy smiled, "But I wanted you and I to take a little trip before then. One of the drawbacks of marrying a single mother is not having as much time getting to know each other just the two of us, there's less of an opportunity for you and I to learn each others habits and develop routines of our own organically. You've had to adjust and change your routines to fit the needs of Lexi and I, and now the prenatal appointments too."
"Amy," Carlos set the box down and turned toward Amy. He took her hands in his, "I want you to know, never once have I ever doubted my decision about you or us. I knew that we would not have a "normal" relationship. The twins are a moot point because we've already talked about this and you know that I am looking forward to growing our family. I don't want you to ever worry about us or be anxious about our relationship."
"I know. We still deserve a few nights away, just the two of us. Well, the four of us anyways." Amy chuckled.
"When do we leave?" Carlos put his arm on the back of the couch.
"In two days."
Carlos paused for a moment. "Seriously?"
Amy nodded once, with a small smirk on her face. "Your mom said she and your dad would be more than happy to keep Lexi. I think your mom is looking forward to having a little girl in the house to dote on."
Carlos just smiled. "My mom will love having her in the house. She's always adored kids. She'll have her making delicious but horribly unhealthy food by the time we get back."
Amy laughed. "I don't see anything wrong with that."
Carlos and Amy got to spend four days and three nights in a cute little cottage on the Jersey coast. For the first time in their relationship, they got to simply enjoy each other's company. They cooked breakfast together every morning; egg white omelets for Carlos and regular omelets for Amy. Their first morning they went right back to bed after breakfast and didn't leave until the middle of the afternoon when Amy needed to eat again. Carlos made them salads with grilled salmon. When Amy complained that the babies were still hungry, he gave her a banana. She ended up back in the kitchen making herself some peanut butter toast. They spent the evening wrapped around each other on the couch watching a movie. The second day they decided to leave their beach house and go on a walk through town.
Amy found a cute gift shop and bought a t-shirt and a coloring book for Lexi. She also bought two little baby hats.
Carlos eyed her as she took the bag from the cashier. "We don't know whether the babies are boys or girls, or both, yet."
Amy thanked the cashier and started for the door. "I know." She stopped and shrugged a shoulder. "I just have a feeling about it. If I'm wrong, then we'll have a couple of hats we can save for later."
"You know," Carlos opened the door and waited until they were on the sidewalk to continue. "I was talking to my sister and she asked me if the twins would be it or if we would have more kids. I told her I wasn't sure, that you and I hadn't really decided. Since you brought it up, you obviously want more. And just so you don't freak out, I'd love to have more. You're the one who has to do all of the heavy lifting, literally, when it comes to carrying the baby-or babies-so I'll just leave that up to you."
Amy nodded and smirked, "So, if I wanted to fill all of the bedrooms in the house with kids you would be okay with that?"
Carlos didn't even hesitate when he answered, "I'm game if you are."
Their trip was exactly what they needed. Lexi was happy to see them, but also sad to have to leave Ric and Marie's house. It warmed Amy's heart, and definitely made her a little emotional, knowing that Lexi had a wonderful set of grandparents to dote on her. Marie insisted on them taking another weekend getaway soon, and often, so that Lexi could stay with them again.
Amy had completely given up on even trying to fit into her pre-pregnancy jeans and pants and had fully embraced the stretchy maternity pants. But at 18 weeks pregnant with twins, she looked about the same as a 30-week singleton pregnancy. So she embraced her new bump and actually had Ella embroider the Rangeman logo on a few maternity shirts for her to wear at work. As soon as she got home from work she usually changed into yoga pants or sweat pants, basically anything with an elastic waist, and a maternity top. The babies were both growing right on track, and Amy seemed to really enjoy her second trimester.
It was when Amy reached 28 weeks at the end of February that things got a little complicated. Amy was sitting on their bedroom floor trying to put together a baby swing when her cell phone started ringing. She knew she shouldn't have left it on her nightstand. As she very awkwardly got to her feet, she felt a sharp pain low in her belly. She thought it was just some round ligament pain until she straightened all the way and she started to have cramping and lower back pain. She took a deep breath in and let it out slowly before walking over to her phone. She had missed the call and had just made it to her phone when she heard Carlos outside their bedroom.
"Hey sweetie," Carlos walked in with his phone to his ear. "Mama asked if you and Lexi would want to go have a girls day with her."
Amy smiled hesitantly, "That sounds wonderful, but I'm not sure what I'll be doing this weekend."
Carlos knew by the tone of her voice that something was wrong. "Hey mama, I need to help Amy with something. I'll call you back." He put his phone in his pocket as he rushed over to Amy. "What's wrong Amy?"
"I don't know. I was sitting on the floor putting the swing together when my phone rang. I got up and felt a sharp pain. I thought it might just be round ligament pain, but then I started cramping and my lower back hurts. I don't know if it's just growing pains or what."
"Ok, do we need to call Dr. Sayre?"
"I don't know." Amy gave a nervous laugh, "I've never been pregnant with twins before. I don't know if this is normal."
"Why don't you just sit and relax for a little bit, lay in bed…"
"I don't want to lay in bed." Amy interrupted, annoyed.
"Okay, lets just go out to the living room then. Sit on the couch with your feet up. I'll see if Claire can make you your favorite eggplant chicken lasagna for supper."
Carlos got Amy settled on the couch and refilled her water bottle for her. He went down the hall to his office and called Dr. Sayre, she had given them her direct on-call cell phone number so they wouldn't have to wait for the answering service to get their message to her.
"This is Dr. Sayre." She answered.
"Dr. Sayre, it's Carlos Manoso."
"What's going on Carlos?"
"Amy is having some cramping and lower back pain. I'm a little concerned."
"Is she spotting or bleeding?"
"I don't think so, she's been doing fine."
"Let me talk to her."
Carlos started walking back to the living room. "Yeah, absolutely."
Amy looked surprised as Carlos walked into the family room talking on the phone.
"Who are you talking to?" Amy was rubbing her lower back.
"Dr. Sayre." Carlos answered frankly, he switched the call to speaker phone. "Have you had any spotting or bleeding today?"
"No. Everything has been good. Normal." She winced as a stronger cramp started in her lower back and then moved around to the front of her belly. "I've definitely never had pains like this before though."
"Where is the pain now?" Dr. Sayre asked.
"It's starting in my lower back and then spreading to my belly." Amy was gently rubbing her belly.
"You guys need to come in now. Just go straight to the hospital, I will meet you there. What's your ETA?"
Carlos had already started walking back to their bedroom to grab a few things for Amy. "We're at home in Princeton, so about 30 minutes, 45 tops."
"Don't get into a car accident trying to rush here."
"I won't."
"Call me back if anything changes before you get here."
"I will." Carlos ended the call and put their phone chargers in the bag he was packing for the hospital. He had already put in clothes for Amy and was going back to the closet for clothes for himself when Amy walked in their room. "You need to go back out to the couch and sit down."
Amy rolled her eyes and sighed. "I just want to get my knitting and my ipad."
"I'll get it. Go sit back down. Now."
"What are we doing with Lexi?"
"Claire said she would stay here with her. I figured that would be better than trying to keep her occupied at the hospital. Once we know what's going on, we can call my mom or one of your friends to get her if needed. Claire is perfectly happy staying at the house with Lexi tonight." Carlos zipped up their bag.
Amy went out to the family room and sat on the couch, as Carlos instructed.
"Lex baby." Amy called out from her seat.
Lexi came down the stairs a minute later. "What mom?"
"Hey baby, come here." Amy waited until Lexi had sat down next to her on the couch before continuing. "The babies may be trying to come a little early, I'm having some little pains in my belly. So Carlos is going to take me down to Trenton so that the doctor can check on the babies. Claire is going to stay here with you. I'm sure everything is just fine, but we want to make sure."
"Why can't I come with you?"
"We'll be at the hospital, which is usually pretty boring. There will just be a lot of sitting around with nothing to do. I promise you won't be missing anything."
Lexi looked a little upset and concerned. "How long will you be gone?"
"We don't know yet. Hopefully not long."
"Can I go to Nana Marie and Papa Ric's?" Lexi looked hopeful.
Carlos crouched down in front of Lexi, "Once I get your mom to the hospital and the doctor has had a chance to check on the babies, I will call Nana Marie and have her come pick you up. Okay?"
Lexi nodded then looked back to Amy, "I hope the babies are okay."
"Me too, sweetie."
"Time to roll," Carlos helped Amy up off the couch and walked her to the garage. "We'll call as soon as we know anything." He said to Claire who was waiting by the door.
"Just try to stay calm." She put her hand on Amy's shoulder. "I know it's hard, but trust in God and your doctors. I have a feeling everything will be fine."
"Thank You Claire. You are such a blessing to us." Amy patted Claire's hand then let Carlos usher her towards the car.
After helping Amy get buckled in, Carlos hurried around the front and had them barreling down their driveway in no time.
"I'd like to make it to the hospital in one piece please." Amy said with a bit of snark in her voice.
"We'll be fine." Carlos assured her.
Carlos pulled up to the emergency room entrance, and he wasn't surprised to find a nurse with a wheel chair waiting just inside the automatic doors. After helping Amy out, he was able to find an open parking spot and be at Amy's side before the elevator doors opened to take them up to the OB floor. The elevator doors opened and Dr. Sayre was standing there waiting.
Dr. Sayre walked quickly along one side of Amy's wheel chair, with Carlos on the other side. "I have a room open and waiting for you. How was the drive?"
"Well we're here and we're in one piece." Amy said, half serious.
"And any contractions or more pains?"
"It's about the same." Amy kept rubbing her belly. "The babies are moving around like crazy."
"That's always good." They arrived in the room, and Dr. Sayre helped Amy stand up. "Okay, there's a couple of gowns on the bed. Strip down, everything off; even bra and underwear. Put one gown on with the opening in the back and then the other on with the opening in the front-it helps you feel a little less exposed. I will be back in in just a minute and we'll do a quick cervix exam to see if your dilating at all."
"Okay." Amy nodded and felt her pulse start to go a little faster.
As soon as Dr. Sayre left Carlos helped Amy get changed. She was just sitting down on the bed when Dr. Sayre knocked on the door.
"Come in." Carlos called out.
"Okay," Dr. Sayre grabbed a pair of gloves and had the nurse lower the head of the bed. "This will just take a few seconds, but it'll be a bit uncomfortable. Bring your feet up to your bottom and then you can let your knees drop to the side."
Amy grimaced a bit when Dr. Sayre checked her but she kept her eyes locked on Dr. Sayre's face, trying to read her expression.
"Okay, so we are going to go ahead and hook you up to the fetal monitors and keep an eye on the contractions. You definitely are contracting, and they aren't just Braxton hicks. You're almost 3cm dilated and about twenty percent effaced. So we are going to keep you at least overnight. After you've been on the monitors for at least thirty minutes, I'll see how frequent and strong the contractions are and go from there. Have you ever had terbutaline before?"
"No, I didn't have any complications with my first pregnancy." Amy was starting to get worried.
"Okay, we will be giving you some tonight. It's just a medicine that should help stop the contractions. As a precaution, we're also going to give you a steroid injection to help mature the babies lungs. Before you freak out, it is only a precaution. Steroids work the best when they're given at least twenty-four hours before a premature delivery. I am not saying that you will be delivering tomorrow. I just want to be prepared for every possibility. Generally the terbutaline works and then you would just have to go on bed rest."
"Bed rest? Again? Oh man." Amy pouted. The nurse started raising the head of the bed back up and prepping the monitoring equipment.
"Can we do the steroids later?" Carlos asked the doctor. "If her contractions aren't that bad and the terbutaline works, will she need the steroids?"
"I won't give her the steroids until I see what the monitors say after the first thirty minutes. Once I have that information I'll have a better idea of what's going on and what the best course of treatment will be. But since this pregnancy has been anything but normal from the beginning, I just want you guys to know the possibilities up front." Dr. Sayre patted Amy's knee. "Any more questions?"
"I think we're good for now." Amy managed a small polite smile.
"Okay, well the nurse will get the monitors all hooked up and I'll come back in to check on you."
Dr. Sayre moved over to the little table and was typing up some notes-Amy assumed it was in her medical file-while the nurse got started on the monitors. When she was done she gave them a little wave and was gone.
"So what in the hell am I supposed to do if I get put on bedrest?!" Amy moved the pillow behind her head and leaned back, letting the nurse put elastic bands around her belly with some type of monitoring device attached to them. "I barely survived a few weeks of it. Now I'm looking at the possibility of about three months of it."
"Just remember, it's all for the babies." Carlos sat down on the edge of the bed and rubbed her leg. "You just have to keep those two little guys and/or girls cooking for at least another eight weeks."
"That's easy for you to say when you aren't the one who will be confined to the bed or the couch." Amy complained.
The nurse turned on the machine and moved the monitors around a little bit. "Okay, you're all set. I will be staying in here with you to make sure we're getting good readings on both babies. They have a tendency to move away from the monitor sensors, and we just want to keep an eye on their heart rates."
"Is there anything wrong with their heart rates?" Amy said worriedly.
"Not at all. We just like to monitor it during contractions to see if they're getting stressed out at all. So far everything looks great. Like Dr. Sayre said, it's just a precaution. It also helps to know what the babies normal heart rates are. It's all good. I promise. We're just watching for now to see what's going on. Try to relax momma."
"Oh sure, relax. That's easy when you're probably in pre-term labor with twins when you've already lost one baby." Amy said a bit petulantly.
Carlos tried not to chuckle. "Here," he handed Amy her knitting bag. "Knitting usually helps distract you and calm you down."
Amy grabbed it out of his hand and mocked him, muttering "Here, take your knitting it calms you down." She actually sneered at him and started working on the baby blanket she had brought with them. "Call your mom, have her pick up Lexi. Make sure you tell her that everything is fine, because she'll freak out if you don't."
"Yes dear." Carlos smirked as he leaned down and kissed the top of Amy's head. He went over to the windows and pulled his cell phone out to call his mom.
