"I have agreed to be your legal guardian. I know your full story, I'm a police officer so I can provide for you, and we can pass off your oddities as a strange, but powerful quirk." Tsukauchi explained. "The presses would be going crazy if a hero were to take you in."
I nodded. In the weeks I had come to know the police officer, I had learned about quirks, and his in particular, human Lie detector.
I nodded. "Aye." I said to him.
He smiled. "You'll be discharged at the end of the week. We'll get a room together for you."
Chapter 2: New world
As the weeks went by I completed my school work, the police detectives home wasn't a large one. A... set of rooms owned by another man that Naomasa paid rent to. Apartment as he put it. I sat at the desk in the room that was given to me, I rolled absent mindedly a gold septim across the wooden surface under my finger. This world of quirks and science was so backwards to me. I had everything that I had on me, I had left my holy and deadra weapons with the Skaal should Miraak defeat me, all I had was my trusty sword that Eorland Grey-Mane had made me. The Skyforge steel blade shone much like it had the day he had given it to me, and a set of Companions wolf armor.
The iconic defense of the Companions had been shred by Miraak's blade, so much that it had to be scrapped. I had my trusty nordic bow, and a full quiver of nordic arrows. I picked up the quicksilver and steel weapon rolling it over in my hands. Leaning back in the chair I let my mind wander home. 'I wonder if Kodlak and the others know... I hope the Skaal were able to keep Miraak in Hermeaous Mora's realm.' I let my eyes fall to the gold coin. 'I saved the world twice... and the third time I failed, not against the dragon bent of eating the world, not the Vampire that wanted to block out the sun, not even that frost troll on the path to Hrothgar.'
A knock came at the door. "Amavera, I'm home." He said as he opened the door. I looked at him up and down. "How are you holding up?"
"I'm just... cold." I said as I as I pulled a blanket around me. "I'm always cold."
He just sighed. "I'm sure we can find a cure in time."
"You don't have to lie to me." I turned to look back at the desk, the gold coin glinting in the light, "I wasn't born with a human soul anyways. Being Dovahkiin, some chosen by the gods... a small scared girl that just wanted to be free..."
"I know you've been hurt, come on. Let's eat." He smiled down at me.
I just nodded as I stood up and went to the kitchen with him. "I know why you took me in, your superiors want to keep an eye on me."
He just nodded. "You may be a child, but you have seen so much death, and you have by your own admission killed, both in self defense and in warfare. They worry that you'll try to take the law into your hands."
"I often found myself running from law enforcement once someone realized I was well... a monster." I said as we cooked the meal. The smell of the the cooking meat was muted to me.
"Sounds like they didn't give you a chance." He said.
I sighed. "Why should they? Most vampires give into their desires for domination and evil... at death our souls go to Molag-Bal, one of the evilest Deadric Princes. I'll be no different, even with a dragon soul. Now I'll only die once I am cut down, and the hell that is Coldharbour will be my eternal home... If I'm lucky the Heroes of Sovngarde will try to save my soul from Oblivion."
"It's strange, to think that there is a world that knows of the afterlife, that you have even crossed that line yourself, and that if my quirk was anything else I wouldn't believe you." He said before we stood in silence. "Why did you ran away from home?"
I remained silent for a few seconds. "I'm a vampire... I had no choice... and... I couldn't stay there..." My shoulders shook as the disgusting memory of what happened came back. War, undead, dragons, vampires, cults, none of them terrified me as much as the mere thought of even going home to Bruma. "I... just really don't want to talk about that..."
He went to put a hand on my shoulder but I pulled away. "If you ever feel safe talking about that, come to me."
I gave a short nod as we finished cooking, I grabbed from the fridge a container of blood and pour myself a glass. Just the smell made me want to run and hide, but I had to drink daily otherwise I'll look more and more unnatural. In battle I was fine as I was focused on other things, but the repulsive addiction that kept me ingesting the crimson fluid was like a chain.
I didn't have a choice, I never did.
The days turned into weeks, and the weeks turned into months. My grades were getting better as the tests came and went. I never had much of a education, but Naomasa would do a lot to help me adjust to this society and the days would pass with little to no change, and one day it came, the day of the recommended students entrance exam. Naomasa dropped me off in front of a large glass building shaped like a 3D H, a large wall surrounded the school, my hood pulled low over my face as I walked along the path with other students.
"I can't believe I'm here." I heard a few people say before I got inside the building and followed the small crowd to a class room, standing in front of the room was Nezu.
"Welcome to UA, you are this years recommended students." He said. "And I am Principle Nezu. We are starting off with a written exam."
I looked down at the paper, and waited for the go ahead. 'Thankfully I'm a quick learner...' I thought as I filled out the questions, going down the sheet, line by line filling everything out. The hour had barely passed when a black haired girl with a large spiky pony tail and I stood up and handed in our tests.
"Thank you, you two can go wait for the rest of the exam." Nezu said as the girl and I walked out of the room.
I pulled out cold thermos and opened it, the smell of blood making me cringe. "Oh, dose it smell bad?" She asked making me freeze up.
"Um... no... it's... um... how do I put this without sounding like a crazy person... I have to drink blood because of my quirk Vampire..." I had spoken with Nezu and Aizawa, my Thu'um was too dangerous to use in the school, so my vampiric abilities were listed as my 'Quirk'. "I'll just go..."
"Oh, no. I didn't mean to embarrass you. We all have our quirks, and they affect us differently. I'm Momo Yaoyoraozu." She smiled at me.
"Um... I'm Amavera Essori." I said... "Well... uh... Nice to meet you." I awkwardly said.
"What a wonderful name. Are you a foreigner to Japan?" She asked me.
"Well, yes." I said as we leaned on the wall as I drank the blood.
"So your quirk is Vampire, what can you do?" She asked.
'Well, I can do everything a vampire can, drink blood to heal myself, transform into a swarm of bats, increased speed and strength, but I also have the weakness to sunlight, I am a lot weaker in the sun, but even just being side is enough for me." I told her. "I can even raise the dead... not that I would... just you know, technically undead... yay..." I really wish Lydia was hear to tell me that I was doing well. At least she could lie to me about that.
"Oh, that is such a strange and powerful quirk. Mine is Creation, I can create anything from my lipids so long as I know it's elemental makeup." She said. We talked back and forth all the way to the next test. A race, as we stood there I noticed a boy with a short brown hair cut approach another with half red, half white hair and a large scar over one eye, before he could talk to him we had to line up.
I got ready and took in a breath. A blank gunshot filled the air and I burst into bats flying as a fast as I could... only to get thrown to the ground by a gust of wind as the brown haired boy flew past me in a large tunnel of controlled air racing the half white, half red haired boy. I got back up as I took another running start as I had fallen behind. Under my breath I said a single word. "Wuld." I shot forward to the line just before the two that had raced past me.
I took a second to catch my breath as Momo came over the line on a motor scoter. I raised my eyebrow at that, squinting through the bright light. "You did so good!" She smiled.
I gave a weak smile, "Thanks..." I reached back and pulled my hood over my hair but she stopped me.
"Keep it down, you look better like that."
"Thanks... but I can barely see." I pulled the hood down, hiding my face.
"Oh... sorry." She said.
I let out a soft chuckle. "It's alright."
After that we finished the last of the tests, getting to know more about each others powers. Until the end of the day where we said goodbye. "I hope to see you in class." She smiled at me.
"So do I." I said back as Naomasa picked me up.
"Make a friend?" He asked as I closed the door.
"Aye, I did." I smiled under my hood.
