CAP 11: Wonderland.

"How long have you lived in New York" Elliot asks as we walk down Fifth Avenue.

"All my life." I answer him with an it-is-obvious tone. "Don't I look as an authentic Newyorker" I ask pointing to myself.

"Sure, but how come I've never met you before?" He asks explaining the reason for his question.

"It's a big city." That's the reason why.

"Well yes. But I we should had met at sometime, somewhere… ahm… you do not pass unnoticed." I instantly feel blushing.

"I constantly pass unnoticed." I say and then we walk in silence. I'm getting hungry and the weather is hot. Summer, not my favorite season of the year.

"Hey are you hungry?"He asks me with his hand on his expressing he is hungry.

"You are reading my mind." I accept.

"Well, if you are an authentic Newyorker you should know which are the best hotdogs in Manhattan are."
"Of course, north of central park." I answer with security.

"Oh no! Not at all, those are lies! The best ones are in 72nd street."

"I don't think so." I say feeling kind of indignant.

"Have you tried them?"

"No." I answer doubtfully.

"Then, we should definitely go get ones. You HAVE TO try them and it's not far away from here." He says smiling at me.

"OK, but you are buying." He accepts and we keep walking a few more blocks until we get to the corner of 72nd Street and Fifth Avenue. There is a small hot dog stand which is crowded but fortunately we get the last two.

"Wait!." He stops me from giving mine a bite. "Don't eat it yet. We have to go to the place." \

"The 'place'?" I repeat with evident doubt. Now, wat is he talking about now?.

"Yeah, you'll have the best lunch of your life. Follow me, it's not far, I swear." So we cross the street and walk to the park through one of the corridors but suddenly he takes me by the hand and diverts me.

"Shortcut." He explains moving into the bushes and trees until we reach the statue of the famous Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland ". He take me to the nearby bench and make me seat.

"Now you can eat." I just smile and hurry to take the first bite. Oh god. Delicious. I see him smile at my astonished face.

"Told you." He says while taking his own bite.

"I admit they are better than the north ones... mmmm." I keep chewing. "Do you always bring your new partners here?"

"What? Oh no no. This is a secret. It's wonderland uh?" He says pointing to the statue.

"I think if you had brought them here none would had abandon you." I say kidding to then take another bite.

"That funny... funny Benson." He says laughing with me. "Well, now you won't leave me."

"Probably no. But, partner fact: I'm use to run away."

"Lets hope you don't cause I've just share with you my favorite place in the city."

"Lets hope…"

"Partner fact: If one day I runaway you should probably find me here." He says smiling… and suddenly it all disappears.

I hear a phone ringing in the distance, people talking, siren sound; it can be a patrol or perhaps an ambulance? I really can't tell. I can hear a couple of drops hitting the window through which a light ray filters direct to my face. I move slowly. I'm cold. Where am I?

I open my eyes which immediately complain to the light. I try to clear my view and identify the place where I am; a pair of bunk beds and some lockers but it's not my station, though is very similar. I try to get up a little until I'm in a sitting position on the edge of the bed trying not to hit my head. I bring my hands up to my face trying to get used to the light. What is happening?

"Hey Olivia." I hear someone's voice calling me so I make an effort to concentrate and pay attention to the person who's talking. "Are you all right?" I raise my eyes; a woman is watching me from the doorway.

"Yes. Where am I?" I ask feeling a little dazed. I'm still thinking about what I had just dream or rather remember.

"You are in the homicide unit. We found you last night in the park." She stays quiet for a few seconds to then approach and take her hand to my shoulder. "I identified you by your plate. I call your station." My gaze keeps fixed on the ground. "They told us what happened, I'm sorry."

"I'm fine." I say avoiding her gaze. My chest is in pain again and the knot in my throat comes back to asphyxiate me. I hold on to my dream not wanting to return to reality. I'm not ready to face it... not yet.

"I have some dry clothes in my locker. You better change." She says rising. I only hear the sound of the metal door opened. "Last night you were soaked but you didn't want anything. Dr. Beresford came to check you. You're not hurt but perhaps you catch cold." She approaches again and leaves me the dry clothes aside.

"Thank you." It's all I can say. I listen as she sighs and I know she is looking at me. I don't even turn to see her so she leaves the room. I move automatically, like a robot, I get up and take off my clothes keeping my thoughts in that beautiful place of my dream, thinking on that moment… on him.

I have no idea at what time I've leaved the room and walked to the woman who looks at me with a sad expression.

"Do they fit?" she asks about the clothes.

"Yes, thank you."

"Do you want to call someone to come and get you?"

"No. I can… walk… alone. Thanks." I know I'm not acting very friendly, but really, at this point I don't care. I leave the station and try to get where in the city I am.

"Olivia." I hear someone calling me again, I can recognized that voice from somewhere.

"Hey! I can give you a ride if you want." I look at the man but I cannot recognize him. "I'm Samuel, Karen's partner. We brought you here yesterday." He explains and now I know where I had seen him. He is the man who had taken me in his arms.

"Oh ... thank you." He walks me to a car and helps me up. I think I don't seem quite alive cause he won't stop asking me if a feel right. I just nod as I look out the window. A child spends playing with the water puddles on the sidewalk, behind him an embracing couple walking under a huge umbrella. Yes Olivia, distract yourself with them, don't sink into your thoughts.

"Here we are." Samuel's voice brings me back to reality and, indeed we are outside SVU's building.

"Thanks." I get off the car without another word. I walk trying to avoid understanding where I am. I just enter the building and go up the elevator trying to ignore the stares that are focused on me while I pass. In the silence of the elevator my pain gets bigger. I can almost feel how it burns inside trying to take me; my mind flies to a better place… wonderland, where my pain doesn't exist. I try with all my strength to hold on to that vision before I let myself understand what I don't want to face.

"Olivia?!" as soon as the elevator's doors slide open I listen to the surprised voice. I raise my eyes and there is Munch. I don't say anything; I just go out the deafening silence and walk down the hall to the station's door, as soon as I'm there my eyes fly willingly to the place where I saw him fall.
