CHAPTER 13 – IT WAS ME!

"Hey Liv" Elliot says walking towards me. "Let's get this worm spit out." I nod and get up from my chair. We walk together towards the interrogation room's door and I get to see through the double sided mirror the man who's sit inside staring at the ceiling.

"Do you have a strategy?" I curiously ask before entering. We have been working together just a few days; actually it is our first time to question a suspect together, so I need him to fill me with the game.

"Well, quiet a lot." He says with a grin. "I've lower the temperature of the room, and you see the light flicking?" He points toward the light bulb so I notice how it flashes every now and then.

"I like that one." I say smiling at him.

"Sure you do." He says with a cocky smile. I don't know if I will ever get used to his huge ego. "Just go with me ok?" He says cockier, but I say no more; shall see how it turns out. We enter the interrogation room forcing my expression to be tougher and I feel like he does the same, that cocky smile had not left a trace.

The interrogation is getting tedious because the suspect neither wanted to talk with us, neither wanted to call a lawyer. He uses his 'right to remain silent'. But to my surprise, suddenly it changed, Elliot began to make his move, and I immediately get him. He decided to be against me making the man to think he wanted to help him but that he couldn't while I was in the room. We put up a good "fight" and as soon as I am out of the room the suspect start splitting out the whole truth. Half an hour with Elliot in the room was enough for him to say the truth.

"Good job partner." Elliot says getting out of the interrogation room with a beautiful confession that would lead the man to prison. I walk towards him taking a paper bag in my hands.

"So, shall we celebrate with a couple of hot dogs?" I say handing him the bag "Someone told me that they are the bests in Manhattan." I throw him the bag and he opens it sniffing it and letting out a big sigh.

"Definitely the best, that 'someone' didn't lie." I watch him taking out one and settling into his desk but, before he can take the first bite, I stop him.

"Wait! We should go to the place." He smiles and stands up understanding.

"The place." He says walking towards the exit.

:

I'm in a dimly lit room, trying to focus on the voice of the man who stands in front of me. His lips move and he is looking at me with an annoyed expression. I watch carefully the wrinkles that form on his forehead.

"Did you shot a gun, yes or no?" I know the words coming out of his throat mean something, but I'm just not here. My mind is lost in the middle of the park, wandering alone in the rain, footing in the moist grass, touching the trees and concentrating on that feeling, trying to reach the "place" where we should be together; trying not to face reality.

"Benson!" He angrily yells managing to get my attention. I shake my head in an effort to come back from that memory.

""I'm sorry." I manage to say. I take a look around me and I can recognize the room we are in. That huge mirror that was in front of me is so familiar, but the woman reflected in there is not me. I can't recognize that pale woman with dark circles around her eyes; she looks like a zombie.

"Detective, please focus, this is an important situation." The man says really annoyed. I try to remember .Why are we in the interrogation room? Why am I being interrogated?

"I don't know what you are talking about." I achieve to say in a raspy voice.

The person responsible for Elliot's death, that's I'm talking about." The wound in my chest begins to burn out of nowhere; just by hearing his name coupled with the other words has managed to pull me into reality I've been trying to avoid.

"I..." My voice is cut and the huge lump that is formed in my throat doesn't allow me to say more.

"Yes, you shoot the gun, detective. You did it in revenge, didn't you?" He says pointing his finger to me. But I still not quite understand what he means. Did I kill someone?... Him?

"It was me." The words come out from my mouth, but it doesn't seem to be my voice.

"Do you confess you shot the gun?" My mind starts spinning. I feel dizzy trying to remember that moment. Perhaps I HAD shot a gun. Could I have killed the only person that had kept me alive? I feel the fear through my body with the simple thought of that possibility and a blur flashback comes to my mind. I have a gun tightly in my hand, my finger flies to activate the trigger; Elliot on the floor bleeding. Can this be true? Had mind blocked out everything because the truth is the most atrocious thing I've ever done in my life?

"Just say it." I can't answer back. I feel the cold tears sliding down my cheeks, and the invisible wound in my chest is growing up rapidly rending me in.

"It was me." I repeat taking my hands to shout my mouth, trying to breathe, or perhaps trying to stop my own breathing.

A sudden blow distracts Tucker and I feel how the wind hits my face the moment the door opens. My right hand goes down my chest pressing hard the intense burning. I try to breathe but I can't. It's like my body is trying to die, and I don't plan to stop it to do so.

"Hey! I'm in the middle of an interrogation!"

"She doesn't understand!" I hear the voices in the distance.

"You can't interrupt like this, doctor!"

"Sure I can! I'm a FBI agent and I can't allow you do this!"

"She is a murder!" The word bounces hard in my mind and I feel how I lose all my body's strength.

"She is not! She did it in self-defense! Odafin, take her out of here!" I hear Cragen's voice and before I can fall to the ground I feel how I'm taken out by the shoulders lifting me without much effort. Soon I'm in the locker room with Fin in front of me saying some incomprehensible. I feel how he lightly shakes me. But the pain eating me from the inside is stronger than me.

"Olivia!"

"I killed him, Fin. I killed Elliot!"
