Chapter 4

Strange Encounters

Bobby worked on the Colt, while Dean was busy melting metal into bullets.

Kimberlyn sat on the couch holding onto one of her spell books. She was surprised that Dean and Sam were able to talk Bobby into trusting her. She nibbled on her lower lip to see if she could find something to help with the Colt.

Sam walked into the room seeing that everyone was working. "Hey."

Dean looked up from what he was working on. "Hey, what's up?"

"Might've found some omens in Ohio. Dry lightning, barometric-pressure drop." Sam said as he looked at his brother.

"Well, that's thrilling."

"Plus, some guy blows his head off in a church and another goes postal in a hobby shop before the cops take him out. Might be demonic omens."

"Or it could just be a suicide and a psycho scrapbooker."

"Yeah, but it's our best lead since Lincoln."

"Where in Ohio?"

"Elizabethville. It's a half-dead factory town in the rust belt."

"There's got to be a demon or two in South Beach."

Sam smiled. "Sorry, Hef. Maybe next time." Sam looked over at Bobby. "How's it going, Bobby?"

"Slow." Bobby said leaning back in his chair looking up at the younger Winchester brother.

"Eh, I tell you, it's a little sad seeing the Colt like that." Dean said looking over at the Colt that Bobby had before him.

Kimberlyn got up to her feet and stretched out some.

"Well, the only thing it's good for now is figuring out what makes it tick."

"So what makes it tick?"

Bobby looked up unamused.

Sam held up his hands in amusement.

Dean got up to his feet. "So, if we want to go check out these omens in Ohio…" He looked over at Bobby with a straight-face but teasing the older man. "... you think you can have that thing ready by this afternoon?"

Sam let out a chuckle.

Bobby stared at Dean incredulously. "Well, it won't kill demons by then, but I can promise you it'll kill you."

Dean smiled. "All right, come on, we're wasting the daylight."

Kimberlyn shook her head. "Must you two tease him? It takes a lot of time to figure it out… Bobby."

The old man looked at Kimberlyn who came towards him.

She held the book she had been looking at to him. "There might be something in here." She said softly.

Bobby took the book from her. "Thank you."

Kimberlyn nodded her head.

"See you, Bobby." Sam gestured for Kimberlyn to follow.

The three of them slowly began to leave.

"Hey! You boys run into anything — anything — you call me." Bobby called out to the boys.

The boys nodded their heads as they headed out of the room and towards the front door.

Kimberlyn bit her lip as she walked with the two brothers. She stuck her hands in her pockets as she walked.

Sam, Dean, and Kimberlyn dressed in suits talking to the Father.

"There's not much left for the insurance company. It was a suicide - I saw it myself." Father Gil said as he looked at the three of them.

"Well, this shouldn't take long, then." Dean said looking at Father Gil.

Father Gil let out a soft sigh. "That's where Andy did it. It's the first time I'd seen him in weeks. He used to come every Sunday."

"When did he stop?" Sam asked curiously.

"Probably about ... two months ago? Right around the time everything else started to change."

"Change how?"

"Oh, let's just say this used to be a town ... you could be proud of. People ... cared about each other. Andy sang in the choir, and then one day, he just ... wasn't Andy anymore. It was like he was …"

"Possessed?"

"You could say that. Gambled away his money, cheated on his wife, and destroyed his business. Yes, like a switch had flipped."

Kimerlyn's brow raised as she looked at the father.

"Father, did you know the man who killed those folks in the hobby shop?"

"Sure, Tony Perkins."

"Tony Perkins."

"Good man."

"Would you say that his personality suddenly changed one day, too?" Sam questioned as his brow raised.

"I never thought about it that way, but... yes. about the same time as Andy — about two months ago."

"Well, thank you, Father. Appreciate your time." Dean said as he turned to his brother.

The three of them began to walk away from Father Gil.

"Two months ago, we opened up the devil's gate, all of a sudden this town turned into Margaritaville? It's no coincidence." Sam said under his breath to Dean and Kimberlyn.

Kimberlyn pursed her lips together. "You may be onto something." She said softly as they left the church.

SPNSPN

The three of them entered their room.

Dean chuckled at the mirrors that were on the ceiling of the room, when the door across the hall opened up. Dean turned and saw the man that was coming out. "Richie."

The man turned and looked up.

"I don't believe it."

"Hey, Dean... Winchester, right?"

"Yeah."

A tall scantily clad girl came out of Richie's room.

"This is my sister, uh, Cheryl."

"Hey." The woman said, waving a little.

"Cheryl." Dean said with a nod of his head.

Kimberlyn looked down pursing her lips together, she couldn't understand why women would degrade themselves to selling their own body for pay.

Richie handed Cheryl some money. "There." He waited for Cheryl to leave. "Well, you know... stepsister."

Kimberlyn rolled her eyes.

"Come on in. This is my brother, Sam. And our friend Kim." Dean gestured for Richie to follow them into the room.

"Hey. How are you doing?"

"Not too bad. How do you two know each other?" Sam questioned in confusion of how Dean knew this man.

"You were in school." Dean explained as they went into the room.

"It was that succubus, in Canarsie right?" Richie questioned looking over at Dean.

"Yeah, yeah."

"Oh, man. You should have seen the rack on this broad. Freakin' tragedy when I had to gank her."

"Whoa, whoa. Wait. Who killed her? If I remember, your ass was toast until I showed up."

"Oh, I forgot what a comedian this guy was."

"Richie, Richie, know what? I told you then and I'll tell you again — you're not cut out for this job. You're gonna get yourself killed." Dean said as he looked over at Richie.

Richie's phone began to ring and he quickly answered it. "Talk to me." He looked over at Dean. "FYI, Winchester — words hurt." He went back to the conversation that was on the phone. "Yeah? No, it's not a good time, babe. Later."

"So you find anything in this town, anyway?"

"Ah, no. I got nothing." Richie said, shaking his head. "Oh, wait a minute. You mean as in demons and whatnot?"

"Yeah."

"No, I got nothing."

"Typical. What about your sister back there?"

"Oh, honestly? She definitely had the devil in her, but she wasn't no demon, you know what I'm saying?"

Dean's brow raised looking at him.

"Right. Seriously. Church guy, hobby-shop guy — they were lunch meat by the time I got there. Hey maybe they were possessed, but I can't prove it." Richie said with a shrug of his shoulders.

"Yeah, that's where we are, too. You know, let's just say that demons are possessing people in this town. You know, raising hell—" Sam said before Dean cut him off.

"Yeah, but why would a demon blow his brains out?"

"Well, for fun? You know he wrecks one body, moves to another. You know, like taking a stolen car for a joyride."

"Anybody else left in the town that fits the profile — you know, nice guy turned douche, still breathing?"Dean questioned looking at Richie again who was eyeing up Kimberlyn.

"There's Trotter." Richie said as he looked away from Kimerlyn to look back at Dean.

"Who's that?" Sam questioned his brow raising.

"Well, he used to be head of the Rotary Club. And then people say he turned bastard all of a sudden? Brought in the gambling, the hookers. ... Ah, he practically owns this whole town."

"Know where we could find him?"

"Oh, he'll be at his bar in a few hours." Richie looked back at Kimberlyn. "Hey sweetheart, why don't you leave these two and come out with me for a night of fun?"

Kimberlyn looked at him with a red brow raised with an unamused look on her face. "Oh love, you wouldn't be able to handle this." She said gesturing to her outfit and body.

"Oh feisty, I like my women feisty." Richie said moving towards her.

"Not interested." She said as she turned away grabbing her bag and headed towards the bathroom to change her clothes.

Sam simply shook his head lightly wondering why Richie even tried to hit on Kimberlyn. He looked over at Dean.

Dean let out a breath. "See you later Richie." Dean said ushering Richie to the door. Dean let out a breath as he closed the door and then turned to look at Sam.

"He couldn't tell she wasn't interested in him."

Dean shrugged his shoulders. "He's like that, but she handled it like a champ."

SPNSPN

Dean pulled up in the Impala. He looked around seeing the town buzzing, walking around with cocktails in their hands, sexy women and a lot of action. He blinked a few times before looking over at his brother. "I thought you said this was some boarded-up factory town."

"It is. At least, it's supposed to be." Sam said as he looked around seeing the action.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's do some research." Dean said as he got out of the car. A woman wearing a mini skirt gestured for him to come over to her. Dean approached the car and looked at her smiling.

Sam quickly came over and grabbed Dean's arm pulling him away smiling embarrassedly at the woman.

Kimberlyn came over and let out a breath. "Bullocks, is that all you think about Dean, is a good time?" She questioned as she looked at the older Winchester.

"There's nothing wrong with having some fun."

Kimberlyn shook her head lightly pinching the bridge of her nose.

They walked into the bar and saw that it was crowded.

Kimberlyn's eyes widened as she looked around. She never had seen a bar this full of people, and it was out of her element of being around so many people.

The three of them threaded their way through the crowded bar, passing many people who were drinking and dancing, having a good time. Dean looked more at ease, moving around the crowd like he was trying to pick out the best action. Sam and Kimberlyn were getting bumped into and the two of them flushed in embarrassment.

Richie brushed past a woman and approached Sam, Dean, and Kimerlyn. He wore a somewhat shiney orange short-sleeved shirt halfway unbuttoned revealing a white shirt underneath it.

"Oh, Richie. Look at you." Dean said with his brow raised. He was surprised that Richie was dressed in such a way.

"Hey." Richie said as he shook Dean's hand.

"Bringing satin back."

"Oh, you like this? Try Thai silk — Canal Street. You'd have to pay $300 for threads like these, easy. Cost to me — fuggedaboutit."

"How much is "forget about it"?" Sam questioned as his brow raised as he looked at the shirt.

"Ah, forget about it. That's Trotter over there. He sits there all night. Can't touch him."

"So,what do we do now?" Kimberlyn questioned as she wrapped her arms around her black clad dress middle.

"I don't know about you guys, but I'm gonna do a little investigating with that bartender." Dean said with a smile.

"Easy. Me and her, we got a little ... somethin'-somethin' lined up for later." Richie said with a grin.

"Yeah, right."

"Stings, don't it? All right. I got to hit the head, release the hostages. Be back in a few." Richie said as he left.

Sam let out a laugh shaking his head at Richie's cheesiness.

"No way he gets a girl like that. I mean, look at her. You could fit that ass on a nickel."

Kimberlyn shook her head lightly.

"You think so?" Father Gil questioned coming up behind them.

"Oh." Dean said with a laugh. "Sorry, Padre."

"Knew you three would find your way here. They all do."

"No offense, but what are you doing here, Father?" Sam asked curiously of wondering why Father Gil was there in a jam packed bar.

Kimberlyn looked over at Father Gil with her brow slightly raised.

"Like it or not, you go where your flock is." He said as he went to the bar.

Casey poured him a drink before putting it in front of him. "Plus, the clergy drinks for free."

"True, and a certain bartender owes me a confession." Father Gil said looking over at Casey.

"Not in this lifetime, Father."

"I better see your butt on Sunday." He looked over at Dean as he left the seat. "Nickel or no nickel."

Casey came over to where the three of them were. "What can I get you boys and girl?"

"What's your speciality?" Dean questioned as his brow rose.

Casey grinned looking at Dean directly into his eyes. "I make a mean hurricane."

"I guess we'll see about that."

Sam let out a laugh as he looked at his big brother. "You drink hurricanes?"

"I do now." Dean said with a grin looking over at his younger brother.

Kimberlyn's brow raised as she looked at Dean. "Never thought that I would see a man drinking a mixed drink."

"Hey, what are you doing?!" A loud voice rang out.

Sam turned his head and noticed a guy had a gun. He hit his brother and gestured towards Reggie. "Hey."

Reggie raised his gun and shot John in point-blank range into the forehead, causing the crowd to erupt into chaos. Reggie aimed his gun to his own head.

Dean tackled him to the ground.

Sam surreptitiously splashed Holy water onto him.

"What are you doing?!" Reggie yelled at Sam. "He slept with my wife. That bastard slept with my wife!"

"Somebody call 911!" Sam yelled before he exchanged a look with Trotter.

Kimberlyn pinched the bridge of her nose letting out a soft breath. "Well this is becoming fairly interesting."

Sam looked over at Kimberlyn. "Do you sense something?"

Kimberlyn took a breath looking over at the younger Winchester. "Something doesn't feel right." She said softly. "I can't put my finger on it, but the air feels rather heavy." She bit her lip softly.

Sam looked over and exchanged a look with Trotter.

SPNSPN

The police handcuffed Reggie and led him away to be hauled off to jail.

"Too many cops here. I say we roll." Sam told his brother to lean in some so the cops wouldn't hear them talking.

Kimberlyn raised her brow slightly.

"Just be cool. Poor jerk. Only thing possessing him was a sixer of Pabst." Dean said, calming his brother some.

"So, what's the deal, then? People in this town getting possessed or not?"

"I don't know. Maybe it is just what it is — a town full of scumbags."

"Yeah. Maybe."

"Or there could be something more that we are not seeing." Kimberlyn said as she shifted some uncomfortably in her heels and dress, now wishing she had dressed more comfortable.

"You three ready for your mug shots?"

Sam and Dean looked at the cop nervously.

"The photographer's gonna be here in a few, and ... take your picture for the local paper."

"Be an honor, Officer. What a thrill!" Dean said with a chuckle.

"Yep, time to go." Sam said softly to the two of them.

"I couldn't agree more." Kimberlyn said as she got up to her feet.

"Wait a second. Wait a second." Dean said to the two of them.

"What?"

"Where's Richie?"

Kimberlyn let out a breath pinching the bridge of her nose. Of course Dean would want to go looking for the man that had made a move on her and failed.

SPNSPN

Dean sat at the table with Kimberlyn, a large burger was in front of him. He hung up his cell phone and looked at it speculatively.

"He's not answering is he?" Kimberlyn asked as Sam came over with three beers.

"You do realize there's red meat within striking distance, right?" Sam questioned as he put the beers down in front of the two of them before sitting down.

"How many times do I get to tell Richie, he's gonna get himself in trouble?" Dean complained as he put his phone down.

"Dean, you're assuming he's missing. I mean, maybe he just bailed."

"He's a moron. I mean, he's a sweet moron, but he's not a coward. He wouldn't just bail. I got to go find him."

"All right. Meanwhile I think I'm gonna trail this Trotter guy."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. I don't know. Something about the way he looked at me last night. Maybe there is something going on here."

Kimberlyn looked up biting her lip. "I'll go with Dean to help find Richie, even though he is a pervert." She said, shaking her head softly causing her red hair to bounce some.

Dean looked over at her. "You sure?"

Kimberlyn nodded her head. "Of course I'm sure." She said with a small smile.

Dean nodded his head. "Alright."

SPNSPN

Dean gripped the wheel of the Impala as he started it up.

Kimerlyn looked over at Dean. "I got to admit, I'm surprised that you haven't killed me yet."

Dean looked over at her. "You expected me to?"

"You saw me come back to life. Surely I thought you would have killed me right on the spot."

Dean shrugged. "You have been helping us out, why would I shoot you, when you have been a big help to us?"

Kimberlyn shrugged her shoulders. "Because I'm a witch. That's why I am surprised."

Dean shrugged. "You're helpful, and not evil like the ones we kill."

Kimberlyn swallowed the lump in her throat and then nodded her head.

"And Sam has seemed to take a liking to you." Dean pointed out looking over at her from the corner of his eyes.

Kimberlyn looked over her red brow, raising in confusion. "Taken a liking to me?" She tilted her head to the side in thought.

Dean nodded his head. "Don't believe me?"

"I don't know why he would take a liking to me."

Dean shrugged. "It just looked that way… ever since…"

"Ever since I was shot and killed in front of him and came back to life?" She questioned looking out the window. "It was just a spell… a spell that was in my grandmother's spell book." She shrugged as she bit her lower lip. "Something to help protect me from being killed… if it was something besides a regular bullet then… yeah I would be dead."

SPNSPN

Dean walked into the bar with Kimberlyn right beside him. "He hung up on me." He told her as they walked.

"And you think that there is something wrong?" She questioned as she walked avoiding people that were still crowded in the bar as they made their way up to the bar to ask questions.

A woman came over to where Dean was. "I got to tell you — every woman in this place? They want to eat you up." She said in a husky tone.

"Well, hey. Anybody could have tackled that guy … and wrestled the gun away ... prevented mass murder."

"Here's what I'm gonna do."

Dean smiled at her.

"Normally, I charge $400 a night." She leaned forward and whispered into his ear. "Why don't we call it an even deuce and get the hell out of here?"

Dean looked at her with wide eyes. "What do I look like?"

"What do I look like?" She walked away in anger. "Cheapskate."

Casey laughed as she came over. "Did I just see you strike out with a prostitute? How's that work?"

"Well, I just told her I had a thing for the bartender. It was pretty easy." Dean said as he looked over at her.

Kimberlyn walked away looking around trying to see if anything was out of place. She pursed her lips together as she walked around. She ran her hand through her hair as her mind went back to Sam wondering what he was doing and if he had found anything out on Trotter. She turned around and noticed that Dean and Casey were gone. "Oh bollocks."

SPNSPN

Kimberlyn sat at the bar hoping that Sam would come there. She ran her hand through her red hair as she looked around. She turned and saw Sam coming in and saw that the same woman that had hit on Dean prior was hitting on Sam. She got up to her feet and headed towards Sam. "Hey, he's taken." She said as she looped her arm through his causing him to look at her.

The woman scoffed and moved away from the two of them.

Sam looked over at her biting his lower lip. "I could have handled it, Kim…"

Kimberlyn let out a soft laugh. "Yeah, but she's a prostitute. She only has one thing on her mind… and that is money that you have in your pocket." She said rolling her eyes.

Sam let out a breath and walked over to the bar with her. "Thanks." He said softly before turning to the bartender. "Excuse me. Hi."

"What can I get for you?" The bartender questioned looking at the two of them.

"Um, you remember the guy I was with last night? We sat right here. Umm..."

"... The big hero who jumped on Reggie."

"Yeah, yeah. The — the big hero. Right. Um, have you seen him around at all today?"

"Maybe. Depends."

"D-depends on what?"

The bar man raised his eyebrow as Sam caught on.

"Oh my — ! Does everyone around here have their hand out?" Sam let out a sigh and handed some money to the barman.

"He left with Casey about an hour ago."

"Any idea where they went?"

"Her place... for Bible study."

"All right, you got an address?"

"What's wrong with you? You think I'm gonna give you a co-worker's address, just so you can go over there and get your freaky peeping-tom rocks off?"

Sam handed more money over to the bar man to get the answer that the two of them needed.

"Corner of Piermont and Clinton. Have fun."

Sam sighed and looped his arm with Kimberlyn and avoided the gaze of the prostitute that was hungerly looking at him.

"Well… looks like we have our work cut out for us." Kimberlyn said, letting out a soft breath.

Sam looked over at her brow raising.

"There is something wrong here… it feels sick here…"

"Sick?"

"I can't put my finger on it, but it is something dark and sick."

SPNSPN

Sam knocked on the door before the door opened causing him to look at it but decide to go through the door.

Kimberlyn follower Sam biting her lower lip not liking the idea in the least bit.

"Dean?" Sam slowly checked the place out. He stepped onto a pair of pinky piggy slippers and they made a disturbing sound. His eyes land on a picture of Casey with a guy, a cross necklace hung on top of it. He suddenly sees a yellow powder behind it. He put his fingers in it and brought it up to his nose to smell it. "Sulfur."

"Oh bollocks." She said with a soft groan rubbing her forehead.

SPNSPN

Sam had his cell phone up to his ear. "Bobby, It's Sam. We have a big problem. I found some sulfur, and now I can't find Dean. Call me as soon as you get this." He let out a sigh and hung up his phone before looking at the bar man that had given them the directions of where to go. "Hey, excuse me. Um, they weren't there."

"I guess you got to catch your jollies another night. Here. Why don't you have a drink ... and relax?"

"Yeah, I don't want to relax! What is it with the people in this town?"

"Suit yourself — princess." The bar man said as he took the shot that he had poured for Sam.

Kimberlyn let out a soft breath looking around.

Sam tapped her arm causing her to look at him. He gestured with his head to where Father Gil sat.

The two of them approached Father Gil.

"Father."

"Yes?" Father Gil said looking up seeing Sam and Kimberlyn there.

"Um... can I, can I talk to you for a sec?"

Fater Gil nodded his head.

"So, the bartender the other night, Casey. You know her pretty well?"

Father Gil nodded his head again. "Since she was in pigtails."

"Well, um, she and my brother, they, uh…" He paused thinking of how to say what he was thinking. "they... left tonight. Together."

"Ah. Well ... not that I approve, but they are consenting adults."

"Right."

"I, I'm sorry. You said "brother." I thought the two of you were insurance investigators?"

"Right, right. Well, well we are. Um, it's like, it's like a family business, you know?"

"Ah."

"Anyways, um, so, so, I went to Casey's apartment, and they weren't there. I, I, I just have this feeling that they ... that they might be in trouble."

"What kind of trouble?"

"Just ... trouble. Look, please, Father, I, I need your help. Is there anything you could tell me about Casey — anyplace she'd go, maybe ...?"

"Yes, there is a place. Let me get my jacket."

"No, wait, wait, wait, Father. I can do this by myself."

"Son, if Casey's really in trouble, then there's nothing to talk about." He said standing and putting on his coat.

Kimberlyn let out a soft breath rubbing her mouth as she pulled her jacket closer to her body.

"Shall we go?" He questioned looking back at the two of them.

Kimberlyn swallowed the lump in her throat and nodded her head.

SPNSPN

"So, insurance is investigating. You enjoy the work?" Father Gil questioned as he drove towards where Casey could be at.

"Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I ... like being able to help people." Sam explained softly unsure of what else to say.

"Ever think about doing anything else?"

"Like what?"

"Mmm, anything. You seem like a pretty smart kid. Somehow I see you out in front of the pack. " He paused for a moment. "You could do some great things."

"I don't know. I like doing what I'm doing, I guess."

"Well, it's your life. Does, um ... Dean?"

"Yeah, Dean."

"Does he find trouble often?"

"Yeah. Yeah, Dean finds his fair share."

"Well, it's a good thing he has you — his brother's keeper." He looked back at Kimberlyn who sat in the back. "And you work with them?"

Kimberlyn looked up, her brow slightly raised as she looked at him. "Yes."

SPNSPN

Father Gil pulled his station wagon up outside of Casey's parents home.

The three of them got out of the car and started walking towards the house.

"Dean?!" Sam yelled before pounding on the door. "Dean!" Sam looked over at Father Gil. "Check that way." Sam walked off in the other direction around the house with Kimberlyn.

"Sam!" Dean yelled.

"Dean?"

"Sammy, down here! The basement caved in!"

Sam leaned over a grate. "Dean. Hey, hold on, okay? We're coming."

"Who's we?"

"I'm here with the Father and Kimberlyn."

Kimberlyn leaned over looking at Dean. "Hey Dean."

Dean looked back at Casey before looking back at Sam and Kimberlyn. "Sammy, be careful."

The two of them turned to see Father Gil turning black eyed.

A shot was fired just past Father Gil's head, destroying a small statute, causing Father Gil to whip around seeing Bobby. Using his powers he flung Bobby to the side before throwing Sam and Kimberlyn into the windscreen of the Impala.

Kimberlyn groaned as she fell onto the ground with a harsh thump.

Sam groaned rolling off the hood of the car and rushed towards where Bobby laid on the ground. "Bobby, you all right?"

Bobby nodded his head. "Yeah."

Kimberlyn got up to her feet wincing.

"How did you know where we—"

Bobby handed the rebuilt Colt to Sam. "Go!"

Ruby suddenly appeared causing Kimberlyn to scoff. "You heard the man. Go."

Sam rushed away to go and help his brother.

Ruby turned to look at Kimberlyn. "Knew you couldn't keep them protected."

Kimberlyn narrowed her eyes. "Shut up Ruby and go back to the hole you came from."

SPNSPN

Kimberlyn leaned against the wall letting out a soft breath as she looked at the bag beside her on the ground. Dean went out to go and talk to Bobby while Sam packed his things up. Things were pretty tense across the whole board. Sam had killed two people and two demons at the same time, which was pretty dangerous to begin with.

Ruby had appeared once again and she was telling Kimberlyn that she didn't know what she was doing, but that wasn't what bothered her the most. What bothered her the most was that Ruby had said it right in front of Bobby now Bobby knew that she knew Ruby. She was surprised that Bobby hadn't said anything about it to the boys.

Kimberlyn ran her hand through her hair letting out a soft breath. "Bullocks. I'm sure I'm as good as dead." She groaned. "Again."
