Majula
I walk to the blacksmith, who appears to be waiting for something by the door that is closed. You can see right through the door. There's an anvil and tools with an unlit fire area. Quiet.
"I am looking for a better weapon, or maybe you could fix my weapon?"
"Who are you?" He says sternly. "Oh it doesn't matter. Just help me open this door. It was empty when I got here, so I packed my tools inside. Now someone's gone and locked the door. I'm a blacksmith but I'm nothing without my tools."
"What should I do?"
"Well bring me that key, chop chop." As I don't know where to go or even start, I see another man to my right. Up a set of stairs he sits, contemplating. I figure I'll start there. I approach the man sitting by a monument that has engraved numbers that are forever changing. He suddenly speaks.
"You're...undead aren't you? You have the distinct smell of irreversible fate."
"What is this place?"
"This? Majula. Think of it as a settlement, where life is...almost normal. Not many places like that are left in Drangleic."
"Who are you? Are you...undead too? Are we all?"
"I am Saulden. I came here after I lost everything, much like yourself. I wanted to break the curse but there's nothing here for you, me or anybody."
"Why do I feel so...different."
"Well what do you know about souls? I don't know too much but I'm told that souls are the essence of life itself. All sentients have a soul. Do you see what that means? To live and walk upon this earth is the real curse. We as undead will never die and that's quite the problem."
"Do you know anything about the four immense souls in this land?"
"Yes. There are four beings that carry giant souls. They are inescapable wherever you go. Eventually you will have to face them. If that frightens you then you might as well give up now, as I have, hah hah hah."
"I feel like maybe, I'll need help. Maybe you and I could go at it together."
"If you need help I suggest you proclaim your faith to the Blue Sentinels. They will come to your aid and protection if you accept their kind embrace."
"I will place my faith in the Blue Sentinels then. I will need their aid at some point I presume."
"That is a wise decision. Now let the Sentinels cradle you in their embrace."
"First I have to find out where I am to go next. I need to find the Blacksmith's key to the door, so he may help me with better equipment for my journey."
"Do you see the way beyond the bonfire? That path takes you to the Forest of the Giants, where what's left of the great fort resides. Careful how far you venture or you might not come back. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for bonfires to rest at." I look at my broken and rusted broadsword. I grip it, turn around and bravely make my way to the path of the Forest of the Giants. I must find that key and bring it back to Lenigrast.
