A month had passed, and Kurt was sat on the sofa in the loft watching TV. Rachel had only started talking to him since Santana had been sentenced to eight years in prison. He hadn't spoken to Blaine at all, but he wasn't short of missed calls from him. He was all alone whilst Rachel was at her rehearsals when there was a loud knock at the door. Not expecting anyone Kurt opened the door.
"Elliot!" Kurt exclaimed.
"Hey man, how you doing? Last I heard Santana was telling me you were in the hospital, 'long story', and with it being Santana, I didn't question it." Elliot replied, happy to see his friend after so long.
"Well she wasn't lying when she said long story," Kurt chuckled, "Come in I'll tell you all about it over tea." The two sat down on the couch as Kurt began telling the unbelievable story.
"Okay, seatbelt on, this is a fucking ride. So, Rachel fails her midwinter critique, decides to drop out of NYADA. Obviously, insane, so me and Santana meet up with her at the really nice Italian in town, but Rachel just ends up storming out. So, me and Santana then leave but as we are walking to the subway, we hear someone getting gay bashed. I step in, but the guy just beats me unconscious, then when I wake up, blood, everywhere. Santana. Murdered. Him"
"No way," Elliot gasped, "That was you guys? I have a friend that owns a shop opposite that alley and he told me all about it."
"Wow, kind of forgot people would find out. Okay, anyway, the next day I was with Blaine and junior year he told me about how at his old school he'd experienced gay bashing, he was beat up at a Sadie Hawkins dance. So I'm asking him questions and it was only until I was on my way home I realise, the facts don't match up."
"Wait, what?"
"Whole thing. Made up," Kurt said simply.
"Holy fuck man."
"Then I barely remember much after this, but Rachel finds out what happens, we fall out, go to bed. This is all what Santana has told me after this because it's so hazy in my mind. So, she is having this nightmare, banging on the walls, I go in to see her and we sleep on the floor. When she wakes up, I'm asleep, but turns out I'm unconscious and not breathing because my lung had collapsed." Elliot just looked at Kurt in shock, surprised the story could get any worse. "I was in a coma for a week and then not long after I had to testify in court for Santana, but she got eight years because there wasn't enough evidence that she was defending me. Personally, I think the broken ribs are evidence but here we are."
"Well, unfortunately, I do not have a story that interesting to tell you, but I do have a great new show we can binge together."
"Shove it on," Kurt said, "I am bored out my mind stuck at home recovering on my own."
As they cuddled up on the sofa, Elliot put on the show and a small part of Kurt felt like he was with Blaine again. They hadn't officially broken up, but they hadn't spoke since they fell out. According to Rachel, he had come looking for him whilst he was in the hospital but hasn't heard from him since.
Suddenly, Kurt realised something that could change everything. "Wait, wait, wait, pause it, pause it," he shouted out of nowhere.
"Is everything okay?" Elliot asked a little surprised.
"Your friend, the one with the shop by the alley, does he have any cameras?"
"I assume so, why?"
"They didn't have enough evidence to keep Santana out of jail, if your friend has a camera, it wasn't used in the trial," Kurt said, both their mouths wide open. Quickly, they grabbed their things and rushed out the apartment, calling a cab.
.
Once they got near, Kurt began to feel queasy, as if all his worries that came after the incident wall fighting inside of him.
"Oh, here will be fine thanks," Elliot called out to the taxi driver handing him some cash. Kurt froze for a second, slightly reluctant to get out the cab. He found himself starring at the alley, feeling lost, feeling empty inside. Swallowing hard, he finally opened the door, his hands shaking slightly. With the door held open, Elliot called over to Kurt, who was still lost his own world. Snapping back into reality, he scurried over to the shop, looking back at the alley before entering.
As Elliot greeted the guy behind the counter, Kurt kept his glance outside, looking through the window intensely, not hearing a word Elliot or his friend were saying.
"Hey," Elliot called over to Kurt before approaching him. The shop owner had left to go find the footage. "Are you okay, you seem a little off?"
"Um, yes, I'm fine," Kurt responded turning his head to face his friend.
"You can talk to me about you know?" he reassured him, putting a hand on his shoulder, "I'm here for you." Kurt didn't respond, he just starred up at Elliot. For a moment they both just stood there, looking admirably at each other.
"Found it mate!" Elliot's friend announced, holding up a USB stick and carrying a laptop in the other. "What date would it have been?"
"Erm, late November, 27th, 28th maybe?" Kurt suggested, "Around midnight."
Whilst they were waiting, Elliot couldn't help but look over at Kurt, who was once again staring out the window, his thoughts driving him insane. Did he really see Kurt in that way? Sure he always thought Kurt was a cute guy but were they more than just friends?
"Ah, got it!"
Kurt ran over, the footage clear as day showing everything that happened, even what had happened before they turned up.
"Holy shit," Elliot mumbled, seeing for himself just how fast everything had happened.
"Here you are," the shop owner said handing Kurt a second USB to keep. He gripped it tightly in a fist, never wanting to let go, trying to hold back tears. This was it, this was all they needed.
