Chapter seven
Harry now that he was thinking more clearly, and not running more on his instincts more than anything else, like he had been when he had first gotten out of the CDC. Felt a nagging question build up in his mind as he realized that they were heading in the direction his house was; however far ahead said house may be.
As he began to wonder if he should think about letting the others that were now with him know about his home and the safety it would give them. Something that Harry found himself really reluctant to do. Even when he knew the dangers that were outside said home. Even when he knew the fact the others in the group could easily die if he didn't tell them.
This was because in all honesty, Harry wasn't so sure he could even trust this group. Not only with the knowledge of his home, but the knowledge of his magic as well. As they would have to know about his magic before he could ever bring them to his house considering just how said house was hidden and protected for that matter.
And in all honesty, Harry wasn't so sure he wouldn't be attacked by the others or considered crazy or even for that matter out right killed by some members of the group if he did inform them of this.
Which was the main reason Harry was having the inward battle that he was, as the ideals that the Headmaster had tried to permanently install in him fought against the hard-won instincts Harry carried in him. Something he never really had trouble with until now as he hadn't really been in a situation similar to this one before.
One side of him seemed to be telling him he had to save everyone he could, even if it put himself in harm's way. While the other side was using the cold hard logic that Harry usually used. And all but screaming to him that Harry couldn't safe everyone, and that he had no real reason to care about anyone in this particular group either. That saving one of them now before giving them a place in his home, could very easily kill someone he actually cared about in the future. Something that seemed to ring true to Harry the more he thought on that particular fact.
But at the same time made Harry wonder if he could just leave them like he would eventually have to if he didn't inform them about his home. Could he honestly walk away and leave the entire group without any idea of what Harry could offer them?
It seemed just as Harry was thinking on this and wondering what he was going to do next. That the decision was made for him, when Harry found himself knocked out of his inner debate as the truck, he was in, pulled to a sudden stop and all the group members got out to stare back at where the CDC had been located.
Or to be more precises Harry made a decision on just what he was going to do when after everyone after looking back at the smoke cloud that had been the CDC that both Shane and Lori had decided that they had been quite enough. And in a decision that Harry felt they had agreed with in the vehicle they had been in Shane stormed over to where Harry was and attempted to stare down at Harry while grabbing for the bag he had.
Seeing this, Harry slapped the hand away and jumped back to put some distance between him and Shane. A glare clear on his face as he did so. hand on the gun on his side as he did this; ready and willing to use it in place of his magic to defend himself if he had to. Though this seemed to be just what Lori had been waiting for because she started on of her rants, this time looking demandingly at Rick as she let lose.
"Did you see that, why are we letting that so-called doctor even be with us in the first place? Wasn't he with Dr. Jenner? Look what that quack of a man did, how the hell can we trust this man? Especially when he seems so eager to jump for his weapons? What is it going to take for you to realize that he is dangerous?! I mean when this whole thing started, he even left you in the hospital without a care in the world! And wasn't even able to find something to help with all of this to make up for that fact!"
As she said this, Lori gave a glare at Harry as if trying to pin the blame for everything that had recently gone wrong on him. Seeing this, and the fact that it looked like several members of this group were either agreeing with Lori and everything she was saying. Or if not, that looking away from Harry, obviously attempting to stay out of the drama, Harry felt the idea of letting this group anywhere near his home rapidly disappear.
A feeling that was only reaffirmed by Shane, who was glaring at Harry and looking ready to leap at him at any moment's notice. Only being stopped by the fact Harry still hadn't removed his hand from the gun at his side, which was already halfway out and ready to be used at a second notice. Ready and willing to defend himself if Shane did attempt to try anything. Shane seeing gave a sneer at Harry before added on to what Lori was saying.
"She's right Rick, this…man can't be trusted. Who knows what he got up to when he was stuck with that lunatic? We only have his and the fucker's word that the others committed suicide. Who's to say those two didn't decided to help them out in that kind of choice? Look what just happened with us for crying out loud. If he's going to stay, I say, he should hand over all his supplies and weapons for the safety of the group. And if doesn't want to do that, he should get the hell away from all of us."
As he said this Shane held out his hand as if expecting Harry to obey everything he had just said and hand over not only all his weapons but his supplies as well. Harry seeing this felt his face going even more emotionless and had to fight to keep his magic from reacting.
Instead, he took in the others of the group and how most of them seemed to be nodding in agreement with what had just been said. And that even Rick looked like he was in agreement, even if it was rather reluctantly, finally reached his limit.
There was no way in hell he was going to let this group in his home, and no way he'd ever let them know about his magic. Not as they were and not even if they begged him.
He had been controlled once before and he would never be controlled ever again. Not by this group or by anyone else who would try. Nor was he going to simply hand over everything he own to feel like he was part of a group, that obviously didn't want him in it in the first place.
Instead, Harry gave a bone chilling look to the group, a look that stopped Shane from trying to take his supplies by force, again. If only because the look all but screamed Harry would literally shoot Shane if he even tried. Then seeing he had the groups attention began to speak. His voice, quite but hard and carrying what he was saying to everyone in the clearing.
"I'll leave. I'm not part of this group, and I don't' want to be part of it either. I'm not handing over anything. I gave you enough when I made the packs for you and insured you knew to get out of the CDC in the first place. Here is hoping we never see each other again. And here's hope that you guys aren't going to need a doctor or someone with actual medical skills any time soon either."
That said, Harry spun around and quickly took off at a brisk pace throwing up an invisible magical shield around him as he did so. As he wouldn't put it past some of the group to do something like shoot him in the back. As he did this Harry made sure he looked to be heading in the opposite direction that his home was located in; as a just in case.
Though just before he got out of viewing distance Harry noticed that some of the quieter members of the group. The ones Harry could honestly see himself getting along with, seem to regret not saying anything when Shane and Lori attempted to make demands of him.
Seeing this, Harry felt a bit of relief that his magic hadn't been misled and that there were members of the group that weren't took bad. At the same time this didn't stop Harry from quickly making his exit from the group.
As Harry honestly had too many attempts to control him in his past to even attempt to say in a group that was trying to not only control him, but consistently belittle him as well; even before he had really been part of said group to begin with.
Still seeing these look from the others made Harry silently promise to himself that he would keep an eye out for the group if he ever did find them again; if only to check on the few he did like.
But for now, Harry was determined that he would be better off on his own. Where he could see if he could really make a difference for the better, on what was currently going on. Or at least more that he had been doing than he had been doing on the inside of the CDC anyway.
Which was why once Harry was sure he was far enough away from the group, that he hadn't been followed and that there was no one else nearby him he apparated to a nearby abandoned tree house.
One that he had found not too far from his own home, and one that once he had found it, he had warned the hell out of it to make it an apparition point for situations similar to this one. An out of the way place he could safely apparate to without having to go into his home, but still be hidden from the eyes of anyone who could be around. Be it walker or human.
The tree house in question was nearby several of the farms he had emptied out earlier before he had gone to the CDC. Not to mention, not too far from it, Harry knew there was also smaller town. One that if he was luck would still have some supplies in the stores in it.
Something Harry figured he might as well check over before he went to his house. If only to empty out some of the supplies, he currently had on him and stock up on others he didn't have on him but may need later on.
However, at the moment, if Harry was being honest with himself, he really just wanted to get out there, explore and find out more information than anything else. What with how long he had been in the CDC, he was going a bit stir crazy.
As he really hadn't been able to do much for the last several months and there was only so much exercise one could to inside before it got really monotonous. Because of this Harry really wanted to be out more, to do more and see everything that was going on in a more upfront and personal kind of way before he tried to do anything else; especially lock himself in another spot.
No matter how large the place may be or how much work there may need to be done. As while the spells may have kept the place in good condition Harry still knew there were spots, he missed and would have to catch up on. Something he hadn't been able to do much of during the quick daring trips he had made before.
It was while planning on this and trying to think of just what he should do next that Harry heard something that made his stomach drop. As not too far from where he had just apparated to, Harry could hear what sounded like the cries of an incredibly young child; followed by the sounds of what Harry knew to be Walkers.
Harry hearing this, all but leaped out of the tree house and apparated to where the cry was coming from. No care for the danger he might be putting himself in or the fact there could be others besides the child where he was going. He just knew he had to safe the child and that was it.
It seemed that luck was more on Harry's side for once, as when he landed from his second apparition, he managed to appear just in front of where the crying was coming from. Which once he was there, he could see that there was only the toddler in question about to be attacked by group of walkers that was around him.
Making Harry wonder what had happened and just why this small child seemed to be left alone; desperately hoping that it wasn't' for the worst reason and the child hadn't been left behind as a bit to draw the walkers off any group that may have been fleeing from it.
A child that Harry, after using his magic to throw the walkers to the others side of the camp he had landed in and forcefully pin them all down so they could get any close to him or the one he was trying to protect, Harry noticed was no older than a toddler. Possible only three at most, with a milky chocolate complexion, dark brown curly hair, near golden brown eyes that were currently looking up at him in water terror; all and all adorable and definitely tugging at Harry's heart strings.
Seeing this and seeing that the child in question was alone with Harry figuring, or perhaps hoping considering the other option, the Walkers he had just blasted away from him most likely being his caretakers of sorts, as well as the walkers that had turned them, Harry decided he take the kid in and care for him.
As it wasn't like he could simply leave the kid here alone, the crying he had been doing earlier would only attract more walkers then there already was towards him. Leading to the child's very painful death something Harry wasn't willing to let happen if he could help it.
So, with that in mind Harry quickly picked up the kid and went to comforting him. All the while looking to see if he could see any baby supplies around him as he did so. As while he may have some in his house, in preparation for what he had been planning on doing, it also wasn't something he freely carried with him as he hadn't thought he'd need any of it at this point.
Luckily, it seemed there was a bag and Harry were able to grab it before he headed away from the camp in question. Carrying the now sleeping child, who seemed utterly exhausted after the ordeal he had just been put through, back towards the tee house he had been in.
Wanting to head back there to get some shelter he knew was safer than anything he may find at the ground at this point. And heading on foot, as he knew it was safer to for the child in his arms that he didn't apparate as apparating with someone so young was dangerous for the child in question. So yes, on foot was the only way he could travel for now.
Because of this, it took Harry a good ten minute to get back up into the treehouse he had been in earlier, and the one he had ended up leaving a good deal of his supplies in earlier. Though a good part of that time was the actual getting up into the tree house without waking the child he was carrying.
Once he was there, and after he had carefully climbing in the tree house, Harry began to take several things out his backpack. Starting with small tin he was able to quickly transfigure into a small bath for the kid. Then using a little more of his magic spelled some nuke warm water into the tube. Before taking some of the clothes that had been in the bag, he had found in the camp along with what Harry could tell were pull ups.
As currently the toddler he had been caring was a mess covered in dirt and blood. Something Harry felt the kid would be all too happy to be rid of, not to mention after he cleaned him up a bit Harry could get him a sippy with something to drink and get him to lay down for a bit.
As honestly the child really looked like he needed it. So, with that in mind Harry quickly transfigured a nearby abandon chair into a small bed and then as he was thinking on it the chair next to it into a gate to put in front of the treehouse door so the toddler wouldn't do something like fall out of it. Followed by a number of spells to further insure that didn't happen just to be on the safe side.
After doing this, Harry careful and gently woke up the toddler in his arms and began to undress him, making sure the water in the tub hadn't gotten too cold as he did so. And the kid seeing what was happening proved Harry correct about him wanting a bath as seeing the small tub Harry had gotten out, he began to cheer, Making Harry smile a bit at this.
Fifteen minute later, Harry found himself soaked but still smiling slightly as the kid he had found was now all cleaned up and, in his pull, up. Harry was about to put a yellow stripped shirt on the kid when he saw something stitched on the back tag of the shirt.
Seeing this, Harry looked closer at the clothes he was about to put on the toddler as saw the name Andre A. had been stitched into the tag. Causing Harry to look down in the giggling toddler laying on the small bed he had made him.
"Hmm, so your name is Andre, right?"
This got Harry an even louder laugh, something Harry took as a confirmation as he finished dressing the little boy in the shirt in his hands as well as a blue pair of shorts.
Then Harry carefully filled a small sippy he had with some apple juice out of his bag and gave it to Andre before watching carefully as the child in questions eyes slowly closed once more in sleep.
Seeing this, Harry couldn't help but smile and be grateful he had been near enough to safe Andre. Harry as he thought this set an alarm to wake him when Andre began to stir before began to doze off lightly himself.
Harry was quickly jolted out of the light sleep he had fallen into when nearly right outside his tent he the echoing sounds of a gunshot as well as the sound of small feet desperately trying to run. Followed by the loud groans of what Harry knew were several different walkers.
Hearing this, Harry, after making sure Andre was still okay, and after seeing that he was still sleeping, quickly stuck his head outside the tree house to see just what was going on. Only to immediately start cursing and quickly jumping out of the tree in question when he sees that it was Sophia and she looked to be the one who was running from a group of walkers.
What was she doing out here, and why the hell was she by herself to begin with? Something Harry was determined to find out, just right after he saved her and got her back in his tree house with Andre.
After all, it looked like night was about to set soon and traveling in the dark was something Harry was definitely not doing when he had a child with him; soon to be two if he had his way.
_Mean while back in the wizarding world_
Since Harry had decided to throw himself into what all those who knew about it, called the veil of death. If only to get the freedom he so desperately yearned for, things had gone straight to hell for certain members of the wizarding world. As unknown to Harry, or anyone else for that matter, Remus had been on his side. Or to be more precise had been on Sirius's side.
However unlike Sirius, Remus had decided to be a lot more careful with what he was doing, especially after his friend's death. Not only because he knew he could disappear just as easy as his friend had, if not even easier due to his werewolf status, but because Remus really wanted what he did to stick and stick hard if he had the choice in the matter. He really wanted his revenge. Not only for what had happened to his pack mate Padfoot but also what had been done to his packmate cub; Harry.
Because of this, it took a lot longer than Remus would have thought it would have a lot long than to build up his case; much longer than he wanted. In fact, it would have taken him even longer than it had, if his cub hadn't of jump through the veil of death and died. All without ever knowing that Remus had cared about him, had considered him his cub.
But with his cub's death, Remus had lost the last link he had to his pack, and he couldn't bring himself to care anymore. Because of this, even when everything he had wasn't everything, he had wanted it to be, he still put his plan in to action; with a few adjustments added to it.
Which is to say Remus had decided to publish everything thing he had found out. All the hell that he had found out Harry had been put through. The fact Harry had been tricked at the age of twelve by the person he had supposed to have been able to trust to pretty much sign away his own life.
And all the things that had been done to Harry in the name of his so-called training along with the future plans Remus had found out had been planned for Harry before he had taken the leap he had.
Not to mention the false imprisonment of Sirius, the Death of said Black Lord along with all the monetary thieves the Headmaster, and those that listened to him, had done to several others; including both Harry and Sirius.
Then Remus after publishing all of this went on a suicide mission to take out Greyback. Ending up being named a Hero, as he brought the monstrous werewolf to his own death at the cost of his life.
And because Remus had planned all of this as carful as he could and had been planning if for several years for that matter. He knew that Dumbledore would be able to explain away everything that had been done to Harry as a necessary, or least he would have in England anyway. So, knowing this, Remus had made sure all the information had been published not only in England but all the countries in the wizarding world he was able tom get it into.
Causing one hell of a reaction as the majority of the countries may not care all that much about the title of the boy-who-lived that Harry carried. But they did care about his family name, the Potters. Along with the Black family name he had gained once Sirius had been killed.
As a number of higher ups in said countries had numerous financial ties as well as blood debts to those family names and finding out they were destroyed had rubbed a lot of the wrong way.
More so than ever when they read about the lines Remus had been sure to add about how the headmaster could have done this to any family line that was in England and had been in similar situation as Harry had been in.
Making many of the leaders of the other countries imagine their younger family members in the situation Harry had been in; enraging them even more. This caused the countries in question cutting all ties with England until they saw Albus Dumbledore put to justice. Or better yet punished by calling on the mother of magic to do if it was needed.
But until than England would find itself in the dire states it had found itself in after all ties had been cut. With prices continuing to hike up and all doors they needed for help closed to them.
Which because of this, despite what the Headmaster had attempted to do to place the blame of what was happening on anyone but him, people were beginning to curse his name. Showing that Remus's last plan was finally starting to show fruit rather it worked the way he wanted in the end would only show later on. But for now, Moony finally hurrah was playing out.
