The year was 1990. Alice and Jasper had been with the Cullen's for around 40 years or so. Sometimes they were living with Carlisle, Esme and the others. Other times, like now for instance, they strolled around. Jasper still had some nomadic nature in him. Maybe it was from his time serving as a major in the Confederate army doing the war, or from his time with Maria fighting in the Southern vampire wars, in both cases staying in the same place for long periods of time could be dangerous, sometimes even fatal. Maybe he had always had a nomadic nature, and that is what had led him to sign up, always moving around. One thing Jasper knew was that he didn't like spending too much time in the same place, he liked moving around. Shortly after joining the Cullen family, Alice and Jasper had gotten married the first time, Alice had taken their adopted families surname, not remembering her own and yearning for one to fulfill her identity, so after joining the Cullen's she became Alice Cullen. Jasper had only taken his adopted sister Rosalies surname as to not raise too much suspicion, he didn't really think too much of it, maybe because he, unlike Alice, had had more than a first name to begin with, and therefore didn't put as much into a surname as her, but yeah now he went under the name Jasper Hale, figuring it was ok, as it also created some distance to his past in the south and with Maria, for him symbolising a new beginning.

Jasper looks over at Alice who is standing leant gracefully against a tree, devouring a deer she had killed mear seconds ago. It was actually a pretty peculiar sight for someone who didn't know their secret he imagined, but looking at Alice, how stunning she looked in that outfit of hers, dress only knee long and tightly fit to her body, shoving of her small figure with just the right curves around her hips and chest region, while still being slim in a healthy way, he couldn't help but wonder how he had been so lucky as to meet Alice. While Jasper stand all mesmerized by Alice a scent reaches him and he tenses up, ready for that hunt, and he starts to run, not realising what he is doing being so empowered by his primal instincts and that burning feeling in the back of his throat, willing him to hunt, to kill, to feed on this human that has so carelessly gone out into the woods past twilight. He senses Alice following behind him, not closing in on him, but not lacking behind either, he doesn't care, he is locked on his prai and he is going to kill it. Then he sees her and abruptly he stops his hunt, not wanting to harm this pretty little creature laying on the ground between tree roots and an arch of branches shielding her from the evening breeze.

Oh no, Alice thought to herself as she was now following Jasper through the woods, him being so caught up in his chase, the chase which she new from her vision would lead him to kill an innocent child who had bewildered herself into the woods and was now sleeping under a big oak tree which branches formed and arch that offered the child some shield from the breeze, but which didn't cover her scent so that it wouldn't get picked up by, well them. She knew from experience that Jasper hated when he accidentally slipped up and killed someone, hating to feel their dying emotions of utter fear as they realised what was going to happen. And then Jasper had stopped, the vision changed. She had stopped now and looked at Jasper, waiting for him to respond, already knowing how this was going to pan out, that is to say if nothing else changed. She saw Jasper turn around to look at her, that sad realisation of what was about to happen hitting him, something she recognised as guilt flashing over his face, before locking eyes with her and nervously smile at her, a small sliver of guilt and pain still vacant in his eyes.

"She's so small, and all alone out here. And listen, there ain't anybody out here looking for her. We can't leave her here, she'll freeze to death or animals can get to her", that last bit was scaring him the most. This tiny human, whom he had been ready to kill a minute or so ago, was fragile and unable to protect herself from dangers louring in the woods. Alice just continued looking at him, that smug smile of I-know-something-you-don't all over her face, but Jasper didn't care so much about her teasing smile, because Alice could literally foresee the future, just like he could sense and effect emotions of people around, so he knew from the feelings of love, admiration and understanding that she was sending him, that she knew what he was about to do, and the wasn't going to object to it. He walked over to where the little girl was laying, knelt down, and very gently, so too not to wake her, scooped her up into his arms. Al the way to the Cullen's residence in Forks, Washington, where he and Alice was currently staying, holding a break before starting yet another education when summer break ended and the schools started back up again, both Jasper and Alice stayed quiet, Jasper not breathing as to avoid that lovely scent of the girl that made his throat burn with thirst. Once they reached the house, Jasper laid the girl on the sofa, while Alice found a blanket to put over her. And then Alice went to call Carlisle, to explain what had happened and ask for advice and guidance.
