They decided it was best for Carlisle to be the one approaching Jasper, alone. Alice and Esme waited nervously out in the hallway, Alice tried to follow by using her abilities to foresee what was to come.
Jasper hadn't moved while they talked, still seated next to the sofa holding the girls hand in his. The calmness of the room had become even more thick, already Carlisle hard in the doorway stepping in to the room, which had him worry even more. He was already sure of his son keeping the girl from waking up, his abilities being intensified by his close contact to her, adding more calm basically could potentially put her into so deep a sleep that it would kill her. Carlisle walked over to the couch and sat down next to Jasper, after last time he knew better than to touch him. The calm around the sofa was very heavy and overwhelming, he had to do something now.
"Jasper? You need to turn down the calm a little, if you continue like this she could very likely die". Jasper didn't move an inch, but Carlisle could feel how some of the calmness subsided slightly. He breathed out a little relieved, not struggling as much to concentrate on the next he said. "When you're ready I would like permission to examine the girl, check that she is okay after having been out in the woods all alone. I won't force you in any way, but I think you wanna keep her safe and healthy too, so when you're ready". Carlisle knew it was essential right now that Jasper be the one in control, trying to force Jasper away or to try and do anything with the girl that Jasper wasn't in on could potentially turn fatal do to Jasper's background, first as a major in the Confederate army and since his time in the newborn army fighting in the Southern vampire war.
After a few moments of silence where neither of them moved, Jasper finally permitted Carlisle to examine the girl, by moving slightly to the side and giving Carlisle space to work. He didn't let go of the girl's hand, but Carlisle knew that this was the best he was gonna get at the moment, so he took it. Carlisle moved the blankets covering the girl slightly down, and started checking her over for any scrabbes or bruising that she might have sustained while she was lost, but luckily turned up with nothing. Then he counted her respiration and heart rate, using his enhanced hearing to listen for irregularities at the same time, heart rate and breathing being a little slow but steady, normal for someone in such a deep sleep. He noted that she felt a little warm, probably from all the blankets and pillows, so all in all a healthy girl.
He looked over at Jasper who was watching his every move while radiating calmness so to not disturb the girl, and he gave Jasper a smile. "I need to remove a blanket or two, she is starting to get a little warm for a human", he looked at the girl again and then back at Jasper, "and then I think it's time for her to wake up, and I think that you keeping her so calm is preventing her. I know it's not on purpose, but your abilities are amplified in her when you're holding her hand, and that's what's keeping her from waking up. You don't have to stop, but like before you need to slowly ease up, in order for her to wake and still feel that warm calmness you offer" Carlisle explained while moving away again and allowing Jasper back at his original position.
