Clarie, Cathie and Nannie: Chapter One

October 1, 1947. Inside the house of Waltons is a pregnant ladyship in labour. She is Countess Barbara Maria Cassidy-Walton and she's incredibly screaming and shouting right now.

"NO! I WON'T! THESE KIDS WILL NOT GET OUT OF ME UNLESS HE'S HERE SO WILL YOU STOP TALKING!" Countess Barbara groaned as she looked around, "wHerE iS hE!?"

And as if on cue, Count Edward Pierre George Walton strode in as he automatically went beside her, "I'm here, my darling… It's okay.. I'm now here."

The matron sighed in relief as his lordship entered. The pregnant woman started pushing as for the next forty minutes the room is now filled with two crying babies.

"There's one more, your ladyship." the matron said as she asked her again to push.

The couple widened their eyes as Lord Edward was slapped on his arm, "This is the last one, Pierre! I won't- ARGHH- get pregnant- aaARGAIN!"

For the next minutes, the room was filled with more crying and shouting as finally the matron shouted, "SHE'S OUT."

"ARE YOU SURE SHE'S THE LAST ONE?" cried Lady Barbara as she rested her head back on the pillow.

The matron looked and nodded, "I assure you, your ladyship. Now would you like to hold them?"

The couple nod as the matron handed his lordship the first two, the first to his left and the second one to his right, while the last girl on the lady.

"Edward," Barbara called him, "We haven't planned for this little one's name."

Edward looked at the baby on his left and smiled, "If this is, Clarisse Marie, and this one-" he looked at his other daughter on the right, "-is Catherine Michelle…"

Barbara waited for her husband to give a name when suddenly he continued, "Well darling, I gave these two their names. Why don't you think this time?"

"If it weren't for our baby resting here, I would punch you again.." Barbara puffed as she felt the sleeping baby stirred on her arms, "Did my voice awake you, my dear? Well I guess I should give you a name eh.. What about Nanette? Nanette Denise."

"You would really spare her the initials CMW won't you?" asked Edward as he can't help but smile at his sleeping daughters.

Barbara looked at her youngest and said, "She's different. I know she is.. That's why I'm gonna start it with her initials."

Minutes passed and the matron took the children away so that the lady could clean herself, while her husband break the news to their waiting relatives outside.

"Come on Catherine.. say it again.." Barbara persuaded as she lifted her daughter, "Say it again, Cathie.. You already said-"

"Zut…" the nine months old child said.

Edward choked on his tea as he looked at his child and began laughing.

Barbara's eyes widened when she heard her daughter said one of the least words she wanted her to say, let alone learn.

But what surprised her the most is the reaction of her husband, "And what's funny, George?"

Edward continued laughing as he shook his head, "Aside from the unfortunate first word of our daughter? It's because you've been calling her Cathie again and again when in fact it's Nancy you've been holding."

His wife looked at him with shock as she looked at the waist color and saw the deep shade of cream.

"Oh baiser," Barbara's eyes widened and handed her daughter to her husband, "I am very sorry, my darling. Oh god…"

She looked at Nanette and turned her head to Edward, "I swear, she didn't learn that word from me."

"MA-MA!" Catherine suddenly smiled with her fist held up.

Nancy wiggled from her father's hands as she tried to reach the ground and crawl her way to her sisters.

Clarisse sat looking at the fireplace as the dancing flames seemed to catch her attention while her sisters babble and hug each other.

Barbara and Edward watch their little girls as the door suddenly opens.

"Ah! Hello mother! Hello father!" their son Phillippe greeted as he went to kiss his mother's cheeks and to give a hug to his father. He saw his sisters and smiled.

"Hello! My little triple sisters…" he called as he picked up the two with the green and cream bow, calling them 'Little Nannie' and 'Lovely Cathie' respectively as he kissed their heads and set them down where he got them.

He then, picked up the one with a light blue bow as he held her up high, "And to my Lady Clarie."

"PHIP!" Clarisse babbles as she puts her hands on her brother's cheeks, "PHIP!"

Phillippe looked at his parents as he smiled, "She called me.."

"ZUT!" Nanette shouted, sending some shock to her 17 year-old brother as he looked at his mother.

Barbara shook her head, "I didn't teach her."

"Well if you weren't, then for sure she must have heard it from you." Edward said as he gained a slap to his arm.

Phillipe,

Your mother's extremely sad about your delay but she said she can understand. Your sisters' missing you during the holidays, especially Clarisse. She's always looking at the window, hoping that you would joke about the delay and celebrate Christmas and New Years with us. She's learning to recognize alphabets and numbers now, much more advanced to other three year-old kids around her but again, every kid's are different. Catherine's picking up words and learned how to say them more clearly while Nanette's seem to pick up both words and curses, I have to warn the staff about their mouths because our youngest's learning a new one everyday, much to your mother's dismay. The three of them are growing everyday and of course, missing you. Yesterday, Catherine asked me if you were coming home, she pronounced your name more clearly and I'm sure she's excited to tell you. Nanette and Clarisse are adding your name to some songs they learned and suddenly your name became a part of 'Pat-a-Cake' song. Anyways, we're still looking forward to your return. Your mother loves you and we all do.

Your father,

E.P.G. Walton

"Do you think Phillippe will spend Christmas with us this year?" Clarisse asked as she poured some imaginary tea out of her tea set.

Catherine shrugged as she pretended to hush a sleeping teddy bear.

Nanette smiled as she snuggled to her teddy bear, "I really hope Phillippe will be here.. I missed riding his back."

"You always ride on everyone's back, Nancy.." commented Clarisse as she drank the imaginary tea, "Would you two like some?"

Nancy smiled as she went near her oldest twin, "Yes please. Me and my Ted would like some."

"Ted's a very obvious name for a toy. You should call him Todd or something." Catherine said as she turned to her older twin, "I would also love to have some tea."

Nanette and Catherine got their tea as they clink their teacups and smiled.

"I wish we can put water on this." Nanette smiled as she drank the imaginary tea.

Clarisse frowned, "Mama won't let us because she said there's a slight chance for us to spill water on the floor."

"The last time you asked mama, Clarie, mama shouted at you didn't she?" asked Catherine as suddenly Clarisse put her hands on her face.

"My sainted aunt Fanny, she shouted at you?" asked Nanette as she went to Clarisse and hugged her, "Cathie, she's crying."

"Awe.. Clarie.. I'm sorry-"

"I was just asking her. Then suddenly she shouted at me and it reminded me of how Ms. Josephine was fired and I'm a bit scared because I thought she's going to slap me like how she did to ." Clarisse cried as Nanette hugged her tighter.

Catherine soon joined the hug as she said, "I'm sure mama didn't mean it. She might be stressed or something. I overheard her and papa arguing last night."

"Was that them? I thought it was some downstairs people." mumbled Nanette as Clarisse calmed down.

"It's them. They're shouting at each other last night. I heard them as well." the oldest said as she brushed her tears, " told me that a big girl doesn't cry over small things."

Nanette helped her fix her hair as the youngest said, " also said that we're three year-old girls and sometimes, crying can help us take stress out. Do you think crying can also take mama's stress out?"

Catherine looked at the window and found that it's snowing.

"Look there's snow." she said as she ran to the windows. She was soon followed by Clarisse and Nanette as they watch snows fall down from the sky.

"We're spending Christmas with Phillippe?" the three girls squealed as they jump around. Clearly showing their excitement.

"He also told me that he's going to extend the invitation and have us us spend the New Year with him." Edward said as again, his daughters cheered while his wife smiled.

He know he made a lot of mistakes for the past two years and now he's going to straighten them up.

A trip to America for Christmas may not erase his wrong doings but he hope it can help him start.

It can be a good thing as well, his daughters are surely delighted with the upcoming trip as they talk already of some things to bring and to brag to their brother.

Yes it's a right things to do… he thought but he still felt down his guts that something bad is going to happen. He brushed the thought as he got himself to his daughter's conversation.
