Okay, honestly, I kind of wrestled with myself about what each season's element would be. I wanted the narrator to be a springbender, but I couldn't decide what spring's element would be. I originally wanted all springbenders to be one element, all summerbenders another, so on and so forth. Then I decided that spring would be water and summer would be earth, and I started writing about the C-Year. Then I wanted summer to be water, so I deleted the whole thing, and wrote about the A-Year. Then I decided that each springbender doesn't have to be the same, and the C-Year would still exist, but the A-Year would be the primary year.

(Disclaimer: BTW when I was creating this story, I saw something that made me suspect that there might be another A:TLA fanfiction called Seasonbenders. If so, I do not claim ownership of that.)

Disclaimer: I do not own A:TLA

First things first, my name is Abilene.

Third things second, in my year, (I'll explain in the second thing, but that's third) I am the springbender and the summerbender is Aqua, the fallbender is Alya, and the winterbender is Alinta.

Second things third, (See? I told you.) here's the vocabulary that you need to know; Springbender, Summerbender, Fallbender, Winterbedner, and Year. I am a springbender. First, before I can fully explain what a springbender is, I must explain what a year is. A year is a group of seasonbenders (Oh, yeah. That's what we are also called. Like bender could be a waterbender, earthbender, firebender, or an airbender. This is more specific. In benders: elementbender or seasonbenders.) Springbenders can bend spring. Pretty simple, right? No. They (we) can bend vines and flowers and make trees blossom, but each seasonbender has an element. With my year, Spring gets earth, summer gets water, fall gets air, and winter gets fire. The avatar cycle backward. This doesn't happen in all years, though. (There's one year that I'm aware of, our very close friends, the C-Year, whose springbender is a waterbender, summerbender an earthbender, fallbender a firebender, and winterbender an airbender.)

Fourth things fourth, the C-Year. I will probably talk about them often. We grew up together as good friends, but eventually, they decided to travel the world, as their year, and we wanted to travel the world as our year as well. We still kept in touch, though. We each bought a messenger hawk from the Fire Nation, and we continually send letters back and forth. Every time we move, we inform them, sending a messenger hawk, then set off, hoping that the others didn't send a letter that would arrive when we were gone. (That happened once. :\) We called ourselves the A-Year and the C-Year because in our year, everyone's names start with A, and in the C-Year, their names all start with a C.

But that's enough about them, let's get to the story.

I was practicing my earthbending behind a waterfall when I saw Aqua fall down the river on an ice surfing board, followed by Alya, who was using her glider to fly down. Next came Alinta, who looked like she was ready to create a huge snow pile to fall into once she got to the bottom. They all looked like they were racing. I created a tunnel to the bottom and waited for a few seconds until Aqua fell onto the river and over to me.

"Found her!" She called back to Alya and Alinta, who were landing beside the river.

"Hi?" I said, confused.

"We got a letter," Aqua said breathlessly. "From the C-Year."

"Ooh," I said. "What does it say?"

"They are coming!" She said excitedly. "The next thing on their itinerary is to come here!"

"Yay!" I said. It would be nice to rendezvous with our old friends.

"They say they invented a new game." Alinta said excitedly, "We are so gonna play it,"

Alinta was a firebender, and quite good at it. She explained that it was a sporting kind of game, a fighting king-of-the-hill. The earthbenders and waterbenders would create the arena, but everyone could fight. As long as they were seasonbender. Or an elementbender. Either is fine, but it would be an unfair advantage if one team were seasonbenders and the other elementbenders, or even only one seasonbender. Well, I guess if you are a seasonbender playing an elementbender-only match, you are an elementbender, just don't use your seasonbending.

"Hello?" Alya said, waving a hand in front of my face. I guess I had blanked out, thinking about the game. "I was saying, we should start thinking about the game."

Which I had just been doing.

I nodded. "Okay."

We cleaned up our campsite; a few tents and a fireplace. We rolled up our beds, walked to the river, and submerged our beds. We then held them out for Alya to airbend-dry them and Aqua to waterbend any remaining water out of them. Then we rolled them up, walked back to the camp, and set them back in place, unrolled and clean. Then we each went to separate parts of the river and took baths.

Once that was done, we all came back to the camp and decided to go on a hike to the river, which was only a quarter of a mile away. A very short hike. We followed the river to the waterfall, which was another quarter of a mile away, and descended using our bending to the little peaceful scene; the waterfall emptied into a lake, which then flowed out, continuing its journey as a river again. This simple oasis has been our hang-out spot since we got here.

I built a little playing field by earthbending a rectangle-shaped ditch in the ground. Then I raised some pillars and asked Aqua to waterbend and fill the ditch with water.

At the questioning looks of everyone, I explained what was going through my head. "This will be our playing field. I'm trying to make a tweaked version of the C-Year's game. Instead of having a huge, elevated rock platform, we have pillars. And instead of teams, it's every man for himself. Try to push everyone else off of their pillars. You can move from pillar to pillar, and use your elementbending or seasonbending." I scanned everyone's faces. They all seemed to get it. Kind of. "You'll get it more if you just play." And so we played. They all seemed to get it and were having fun. Especially Alya. She was moving like an airbender,(which she was) dodging all of our attacks, and when we weren't looking at her, she quickly blasted us off of our pillars. I made the ditch deep enough for us to be standing with our arms up, and still be under the top, and the pillars were only a couple of inches higher than the ground. Aqua had filled the ditch up to the top, so if we fell in, we would be completely submerged. That was the point of the game. To get someone else completely submerged. (We all know how to swim, don't worry.) Alya put up a good fight, and eventually, it was only her and me.

"I'm surprised that you're beating me at my own game!" I called over to her. "But not for long!" I jumped to a larger pillar, spread my feet out, and rooted them down. I wrung my hands out for earthbending.

Alya turned, obviously getting ready for blocking and turning my flying earth back at me. But, instead, I springbended some flowers in front of her, which surprised her, making her take a step back, then I launched a boulder at her, and it connected with her midsection, making her fall backward into the water, but not fully submerged. She had fallbended. It's fine. There's nothing in the rules against it. She had landed on a floating pile of leaves, then airbended up, circle-kicking a blow of air in every direction. She knocked me halfway off of my pillar, and I tried to move my feet to find another earthbender stance, but my flailing caused me to plummet into the water. Completely. Alya had beaten me at my own game.

Alya's POV

I won! As Abilene tumbled into the water, I relaxed a little.

"That was fun!" I said as Abiline's head popped out of the water. "Wanna rematch?"

"Sure!" Abilene said. Aqua nodded and Alinta gave a thumbs-up.

The second match was as fun as the first. We started as we were supposed to, one in each corner. We would all bend a sphere of our element when we were ready, and so I took a quick breath and airbended a sphere of air, and looked around the playing field. I was pretending to check to see if everyone else was ready, and Alinta was holding up a sphere of fire, and Abilene had a rock ready, but Aqua was still getting ready. I was actually analyzing the playing field. I found a pathway over to Alinta, and a few escape routes. Once Aqua had a sphere of water, I ran over to Alinta, but left a few pillars between us, so she could advance. She did advance. That was good for me, because I needed to push her off. I couldn't pull her off, unless I pushed her from behind. But still.

"Oh, hey, Alya!" Alinta said tauntingly. "Wanna play with fire?" At this, she made a blazing fire on her hands. She blasted one at me, but I dodged it easily.

"You didn't think it would be that easy, now, did you?" I said proudly. "Did you?" I added meekly. Hey, you want to know what your opponent thinks of you. That's a good airbender tip.

"No, I didn't. You're pretty good, actually," Alinta said honestly.

"Thank you," I smiled. "Then you'd be expecting this," I said, blasting a cone of air at her. She stumbled, almost fell, caught herself, then tried to redo her stance, but put her foot on water, sinking into the water, submerged. (Maybe that's what we could call this game; Submerged.) Just like Abiline.

I turned over to Abilene and Aqua, and saw that Abiline was rooted down to the pillar, a wide stance, swatting a little, and blocking all of Aqua's water attacks. I waited for just the right moment, then airbend-pushed Aqua off of her pillar, but she grabbed another pillar and flipped onto it, getting only the backs of her legs wet. She was still in. I pretended to pout, and, using my peripheral vision, saw Abilene relax a little. I quickly pushed her off, then turned my attention to Aqua, who had just sent a line of water at me, that pushed me off my pillar and into the water, making me sink down until my head was fully covered. I was out. Aqua had won.

Alinta's POV

Alya was doing pretty good. She had won the first round, and was about to win the second round, but Aqua had blasted her with some water. Oh, why do I always lose? It's fine. This game isn't for everyone. Well, we had only played two rounds, and there are four people.

"Let's play again!" I heard myself say. Well, I hope I win this one.

I climbed back out of the playing field, soaking wet, but Aqua thought to waterbend all of the excess water off of everyone.

I jumped onto the nearest corner pillar, and everyone else took their corners as well. I relaxed my arms, breathed for a few seconds, and held up a sphere of fire. I am ready.

Aqua and Alya had spheres of their elements ready. Abilene was just raising her rock when I looked at her. I jumped over to her.

"Fire versus earth, let's go," Abilene said.

I smiled. "Or, winter versus spring," I made a small blizzard in front of her face. I still had the fire, so I was keeping her warm enough to be able to think and live properly, but still be too cold to bend. She was shivering, rubbing her arms. I pushed the blizzard forward, and she simply stepped out of it.

I tried fire, but she blocked it with her arms. I dodged around her, creating a pummel of smoke so she couldn't see. She flailed around until she emptied into the water, and I withdrew the smoke.

Aqua and Alya were both distracted by the smoke and were standing there, stunned, just staring at me. I blasted Alya with some fire and she airbended it away, but the misbalance tipped her off, and into the water.

I turned to Aqua. "Water versus fire,"

"Winter versus summer," she said, pulling a few balls of water from the pool to which the loser would fall. She tried to throw them at my hands, dousing the fire I had going. I dodged them and shot fire at her feet, and she tried to jump out of the way, but missed the nearest pillar and sunk into the water. I had won.

"Great job," Abilene said. "If we would have a rematch, though, it would be my turn to win." She added with a smile.

"Nice technique with the smoke," Alya added.

"Yeah, but I think that we should set some ground rules." Abilene siad. We all nodded, climbing out of the pool. Or, in my case, hopping from pillar to pillar out of the playing arena.

"Aqua, will you put the water back?" Abilene said, and Aqua emptied the water back into the lake. Abilene earthbended the ground back, and made earth-chairs for everyone. "Okay, we need some more specific rules."

No One's POV

Everyone agreed. If they did have another round, Aqua was thinking of waterbending some water around everyone else. Abilene was thinking of earthbending some earth boots to connect herself to a pillar. Alya was thinking of just flying around, waiting for there to be only one player, and creating a tornado around them, pushing them into the water. Ainta was thinking of just setting everything on fire, and everyone else would flail around and fall into the pool.

"We need some rules for our specific elements. For earth, I cannot change the playing field in any way." Abilene said.

"For water," Aqua said, "I cannot waterbend the water from the playing field and surround other players, submerging them while on a pillar, and, if they are falling, have to wait for them to completely submerge."

"I, as an airbender," Alya said, "am not allowed to fly around, I have to just jump from pillar to pillar."

"And for fire," Alinta said," cannot randomly light everything on fire."

Everyone nodded, happy with their restrictions that will make the playing field a safer place to be.

Abilene's POV

I remade the playing field, and Aqua filled it up with water.

We each took a corner, and were ready almost instantly. I jabbed at Alya and threw a bolder at Alinta. They both fell into the water, surprised by my quick reflexes. Well, quicker. Aqua was waterbending a few lines of water at me, but I earthbended a rock at her, and she fell. I had won easily.

"Wow." Alya said.

"Those were some really quick reflexes." Alinta siad.

"Like superhuman," Aqua said. "Miss Reflexes."

We all laughed, and took a few moments to rest. Then we put away the playing field and went back to camp.

A few days of eating, sleeping, and bending went by until we saw another messenger hawk on the horizon.

Okay, so chapter 2 might come out in a week or so, but I'm going back to school, so I'm making no promises. Also, I'm writing 2 other fanfictions and a real book. So, no promises.
