Chapter One: A New Adventure Begins

Kali cursed under her breath as she ducked under a punch before sending one back along with a side kick. The punch was blocked but the kick connected with a stomach, shoving the teenager back. Pushing her advantage, the fifteen-year-old continued forwards, striking almost too fast to be seen. Her opponent fell before the onslaught and she kicked him once more for good measure, forcing his head to hit the floor hard before placing her foot onto his neck, pressing down lightly.

"Yame. (Stop)" A voice commanded from the side and instantly Kali was off him and bowing to the Sensei who approached. The teen groaned as he got unsteadily to his feet before bowing as well. "That was a well fought spar. Well done." The Sensei complimented. Both teens bowed again to him and then to each other before standing straight, their black belts proudly displayed to all, though Kali was dressed in the appropriate ninjutsu gi rather than the karate gi that Sam was wearing.

"Sensei, may I leave early? I think Potter-san might have broken my nose with that last kick." Her opponent asked respectfully as he gently pressed on the side of his nose and hissed in pain. Kali at least had the decency to look slightly ashamed, it was after all, only a spar.

"Sorry, Wilson-san." Sam waved her off as the Sensei gave permission.

"You have come far from when you were a child." Sensei Seto stated, staring at his best student. Kali bowed,

"Thank you, Sensei." Seto shook his head,

"Fifteen years old and already a forth Dan in six martial arts. You are gifted, Potter-San, and it is something to be proud of."

"I am, Sensei." Kali answered.

"How is your schooling coming along?" He waved for her to follow him as he padded softly across the dojo to where his cushion was set up along with a set of tea.

"I am passing my subjects with high grades, Sensei, despite distractions and grief that have plagued me since birth." She answered softly as she knelt gracefully on both knees before the cushion. She thought back on her life so far and could honestly say that the best thing about it was the dojo.

Kali had been six when she had hidden within the dojo to get away from Dudley and his friends who were chasing her for another beating. Just the year before her cousin had come up with his favourite game, 'Kali Hunting'. He and his friends would chase her until either they caught her or she escaped and beat her up. She was often left with severe bruising along her body along with a black eye, a split lip and the occasional fractured or broken rib. Sensei Seto had found her that day and taught her a few basic technics. Finding that she had a talent for the Arts, Kali had spent hours upon hours within the safe walls of the dojo learning to fight, to defend and the other important aspects of the Arts. Within several months, Dudley was the only one willingly to try and hit her after she hit back twice as hard.

Her aunt and uncle were a different matter entirely. It was only in recent years that she could fight back against them without being punished for it due to the immense size of her uncle. The beatings from the walrus ranged from his feet and hands to his belt and a stick of wood he kept for just that purpose. Her aunt simply verbally and emotionally abused her whenever possible along with forcing her to do all the chores in the house including making the meals. Something that she was very rarely allowed to eat. It was thanks to Sensei Seto that her growth hadn't been stunted as he provided her the meals each day after finding out about her home life.

Her school years were not exactly pleasant either. Despite learning magic- and learning a lot (Not all of it legal)- Kali still had to experience at least one Professor each year trying to kill her along with a stupid 'Adventure' that somehow only she could complete. First Year was the Philosopher Stone in which she had almost been killed three times. Second Year with the Basilisk. Third Year was a serial mass murderer who apparently was out for her blood but no one would tell her anything only for the man to be her innocent godfather. Fourth year was the bloody Triwizard Tournament which she was illegally entered into but still forced to complete. She had almost died at least four times that year. Then last year, not only did she find out a stupid Prophecy existed that said that apparently only she could kill the Dark Wanker, but also her godfather was killed right in front of her. Yeah, Fifth Year had definitely been the worse.

"Whilst that is good, I meant outside of academics?" Seto had always been perceptive and he was also a Wizard though he didn't often go into the Wizarding World, preferring his dojo in the muggle one. Kali sighed,

"My godfather was murdered in front of me after I was misled into believing he was in danger. I arrived at the Ministry only to find that he wasn't there and the Dark Lord's minions lying in wait. They wanted a Prophecy -which apparently is real- that states that I have to kill him or he kills me." She answered as calmly as she could, which was not very calmly at all. Her temper had been more explosive since her 'sessions' with Snape. Kali was still furious over Dumbledore's stupid decision to not only allow SNAPE of all people to teach her the mind arts but his habit of never sharing information. The Prophecy should have been told to her years ago. She should have had proper magical training years ago. And she most definitely should have been taught the mind arts years ago.

Kali had managed to teach herself the basics of Occlumency during her First Year back when she had first discovered the Room of Requirement but that didn't make her a master. By the time Snape had finished with her mind, all her defences had been shattered thanks to his constant battering.

"I see. I am sorry for your loss, Potter-san." Seto told her solemnly. Kali breathed deeply, releasing her emotions as she had been taught,

"Thank you, Sensei."

"How is your magical training coming along? I know you are much, much more advance that what you portray to the world." That earned him a wry grin from the young teenager.

"It is going well, Sensei. I can now cast all spells on the Hogwarts curriculum wandlessly and wordlessly. My actual repertoire though is well beyond Hogwarts and perhaps can give even Riddle a run for his money." Sensei smiled,

"Excellent. I am proud of you for taking this seriously. Ever since I have met you, I have been training you to not only to take your place in the Wizarding World but also so you could complete your destiny outside of Hogwarts." Kali bowed,

"And I am grateful for your teachings, Sensei, both magical and mundane. You have taught me a lot and you have taught me well."

They remained in silence for several long minutes before Seto spoke again,

"How are your mind shields? I know you have struggled with this since you first discovered them but they are important." It had been the only magical art that Kali had struggled with. It was like something was constantly fighting against her to learn it. Kali grimaced,

"They are all but gone, Sensei. Snape," She spat out the name, "Destroyed them all in an effort to 'teach' me Occlumency." Seto frowned at that,

"That is not how you teach Occlumency at all. Will you allow me to assess the damage? I may be able to help speed up the rebuilding of the barriers you have managed to create." Kali nodded, he was the only one she would willingly allow in her mind.

With nothing more than a blink of his eyes, Seto found himself at the edge of his student's mind. Kali's words were true; her shields were all but shredded. The Wizard found himself furious at the so-called Master Occlumens. The man knew better than this. What Snape had done was effectively mind rape, something that made the Sensei sick to his stomach. The trauma for his student to overcome would be immense, and that was on top of the grief she was already dealing with.

"I am sorry, Child." He whispered softly as he set to work rebuilding some of the shields. After an hour, he returned to the real world and watched as Kali gingerly pressed to fingers to the bridge of her nose to stem off a headache.

"Thank you, Sensei." she stated, feeling calmer than she had since returning from Hogwarts. The shields allowed her to control her emotions a bit better than without them.

"You are welcome, Potter-san." He answered with a smile.

"We have enough time for you to practice your kata." Seto stated standing up. Kali jumped lightly to her feet as well before following her Sensei to the katanas hanging on the wall. Both picked up their weapon before walking to the mats. Bowing to each other, the katana pointed to the floor, they both immediately got into position. At an unseen signal, they both charged. The swords flashed and sang as they clashed against each other. The spar went on for a good thirty minutes before Kali's sword fell to the ground with a clang as Seto disarmed her thus ending the fight. Unbeknownst to them- at least the visitor thought so- they had had a spectator who was waiting at the door though the expression on his face was one of awe and shock.

"Pick it up." Seto ordered, gesturing towards the katana, something that Kali quickly did. "We have a visitor." He stated quietly. Kali quickly glanced at the man and recognised him as Lupin,

"Werewolf. He was a friend of my parents. She answered quietly. Seto nodded before straightening up,

"Seiza!" (Kneel!) The command was harsh though twinkle in his eyes told Kali that he was putting on a show. Immediately, Kali knelt on one knee, the katana position behind her back with one hand, the tip pointed upwards as she bowed her head in subservience. The sharp draw of breath from Lupin amused her.

Seto turned to his unannounced visitor, "These sessions are private." He chided sharply. Lupin swallowed and bowed his head slightly,

"I apologise. I was sent to pick Kali up. Her relatives want her home, they're worried." Kali had a hard time not snorting at that. The only reason why they wanted her home, IF they truly did, was so that she could cook dinner for them. Seto raised an eyebrow, he too was sceptical,

"I see." He drawled slowly, "Well then, it appears we must finish this session early."

"Kio‑tsuke." (Stand up.) He commanded, turning back to his student. Instantly, kali was on her feet, her feet together with her arms by her side. "Sensei‑Ni Rei." (Bow to Sensei) With the katana behind her back again, Kali bowed low before swinging the sword back round before presenting it with both hands to her Sensei, her head bowed again. Seto nodded, pleased, as he took the Katana.

"Kondo (Next time), Potter-San." He stated, bowing himself.

"Kondo (Next time), Sensei." Kali replied, bowing low once more before walking towards her shoes at the door. Putting them on, she met Lupin who was still staring at her.

"Yes?" She questioned with a raised eyebrow.

"What?" Lupin began, beginning to get worried that Kali had found a master like Voldemort who forced her to kneel whenever he pleased.

"It's called Ninjutsu." She answered flatly as she began to walk away from the dojo towards her relative's house, "An ancient martial art from Japan. I've been learning it along with other types since I was six years old."

"Have you sworn your services to him as your Master?" Lupin asked tightly, not understanding that it was voluntary thing. This time Kali did snort,

"No, Lupin, I haven't. Sensei Seto is my Instructor, my Teacher. I come to him every day of the Summer to train and to improve my skills."

"So you don't have to see him?" Lupin was satisfied with that. Kali suddenly stopped and glared at him harshly,

"I might not have to but I will continue to do so. None of the Order has any legal power over what I do during my Summer. My trips to the dojo and the library are my only relief whilst at my relatives and I refuse to allow you stop me." She hissed.

"It's not safe." Lupin argued, not happy that his cub was arguing with him. Kali snorted bitterly,

"I have been attending for nine years, it's safe enough. Plus, in case you've forgotten, Riddle has my blood now. If he wanted to, he could easily get passed the so-called blood wards." She snarled, "I am continuing to go."

Lupin gritted his teeth but nodded, knowing he wasn't going to win the argument. Kali nodded tightly before continuing walking. There was no way she was going to allow the bloody Order to stop the one good thing about returning to the Dursley's. She learnt more how to defend herself there than she did at Hogwarts. In some ways, the dojo was much, much better than the ancient school. Stopping at the front door, Kali turned to Lupin,

"Next time you interrupt my sessions, Lupin, at least make the lie believable. Everyone in this neighbourhood knows how unwanted I am at my relatives. Your lie about them being worried for me won't work a second time." She warned before slipping inside without waiting for a response.

Lupin headed back to Hogwarts where the Order were temporarily meeting until they could figure out if Grimmauld Place was still secure.

"She claims she's learning something called Ninjutsu but the moment the teacher gives a command she obeys, including kneeling and bowing to him." He complained. A few mutterings happened at that, some arguing that they should put a stop to it immediately. It was Moody's snort that shut them up.

"You know something, Alastor?" Dumbledore questioned. He had been fairly open with the fifteen-year-old Chosen One ever since the events of the last school year. He could admit that he hadn't handled the situation well and most likely had made everything worse. The elderly Headmaster was finally understanding that he couldn't keep the girl in the dark anymore, that sooner or later she would rebel against him once and for all and he would lose her completely.

"I do, Albus, what Potter is doing is nothing bad. Ninjutsu is a type of self-defence. The muggles have come up with dozens if not hundreds of different types of what they call 'Martial Arts'. These self-defence classes help them overcome immense odds when faced with both unarmed and armed opponents. The fact that Potter is taking the initiative and learning some sort of self-defence proves that she's taking this war seriously."

"Kali claims she's been learning since she was six years old." Lupin added, hoping that would change their minds. Kali shouldn't be learning something so dangerous, she was a child. Moody barked a laugh,

"That's even better. I can guarantee that she's a black belt in at least one Martial Art by now. It also means she has stamina and reflexes that will help her in a fight. Magic users are lazy unless they're Aurors. You don't exercise therefore you never reach your full potential. Potter will be able to last at least three times as long as the average magic user simply because she is more fit."

"Well that ends that discussion. We won't stop her." Dumbledore stated, though inwardly doubting whether they actually could or not. Like Kali said, they had no legal say over what she did during her summer holidays. The fact of the matter was that it was down to Kali graciously obeying his orders that the Order could even be around her house. "Anything else?" No one said anything so Dumbledore wrapped up the meeting and dismissed them all.

Kali had been right, her relatives just ignored her as she entered the house and went up to her room. With a sigh, she took off her gi (uniform) before putting in her wash basket to do in the morning. Wrapping a towel around herself as well as picking up her Pyjamas, she quickly and quietly made her way to the bathroom and had a shower. After returning to her room, Kali quickly warmed her muscles down before getting into bed. Tomorrow was another day of getting up early and doing the chores before spending the day at the dojo like normal.

The next morning went exactly how she knew it would. She would get up at the crack of dawn and do the required push ups and press ups before having a quick shower and getting dressed before putting her dirty gi in the wash and then going downstairs to make her own breakfast. It was with some distaste from her relatives that they bought a big box of porridge for her. it was only because the box tended to last for the entire Summer that they did it, it saved their 'normal' food for them whilst the 'freak' got the disgusting sludge. They were under the belief that she hated it which was a bonus for them in their view. With the porridge and fruit eaten, Kali got around to making her relatives breakfast. She had just finished putting everything on the table when the sound of a herd of elephants was heard on the stairs as Dudley ran down them. The slower but just as heavy footstep of her Uncle and the dainty ones of her Aunt told her they were all coming down.

"Move it, Freak." Dudley sneered, evidently still blaming her for the Dementors attack last year despite that she had actually saved his life.

"Out of the kitchen, Girl!" Vernon snarled as he stormed in, "I don't want your foul presence tainting us." Kali rolled her eyes as she exited the kitchen, passing her Aunt on the way who just ignored her as usual. Thirty minutes later she was clearing the dishes. Ten minutes after that she had grabbed her clean gi and placing it carefully in her duffle bag along with her wand, towel and water bottle.

"Will be out till late!" She yelled just like she did every day and got a grunt from Vernon before leaving the house.

"Sensei." She bowed low as she exited the changing rooms in her gi. She was the first one there as usual. They were able to do a private lesson in the morning and evening, each spanning two hours. "Potter-san." Seto returned the greeting, "How did last night's conversation go?" He questioned with a knowing smirk.

"Lupin was convinced that there is a binding contract between the two of us as you as my Master. He tried to stop me attending which I refused immediately. The Order has no control of my summer life, despite what some members like to think." Seto chuckled,

"Good. You are too good a student to lose because of some ignorant Wizard."

"I like to think so as well." Kali answered with a cheeky smile. Seto shook his head before straightening up,

"Seiza." (Kneel) He ordered. Kali obeyed and knelt gracefully on both knees before settling down on her heels, her hands on her thighs, "Mokso." (Meditate) The second command was given just as sternly. Calmly, Kali closed her eyes and began to breathe deeply, centering herself as she immersed herself in her fledging occlumency. It helped her to control her anger which was something she had always needed. After twenty minutes the next command came, "Kio‑tsuke." Kali was standing with her back straight and her arms by her side within two seconds of the command.

Seto smiled softly, "Hachinoji Dachi." Instantly Kali fell into the opening stance, her legs open and bent slightly as her arms were perpendicular. Seto walked around her slowly as he called out the different stances,

"Kokutsu Dachi." Immediately her left foot slid back as her arms slid into position, one out and one tucked against her stomach.

"Neko Ashi Dachi." Once more her stance shifted. Seto did this several more times before returning her to Kokutsu Dachi. "Choku-Tsuki. (Straight Punch.) He snapped out,

"Kiai!" Kali shouted, as she closed her hand in a fist and punched straight in front of her,

"Futatabi!" (Again)

"Kiai!" She did it again with the other arm,

"Kurikaesu." (Repeat). Kali did nothing but the same repetitive movement for another half hour before she was instructed to stop, "Yame!" Instantly she froze, "Kio‑tsuke." She straightened up again.

"Good. You've learnt patience well." He commented. He knew how boring it got to do the same basic concepts repeatedly. "Now, you will demonstrate your understanding of the Kuji-in." He ordered. "Rin. To. Ryo. Sha. Kai. Restu. Zai. Jin. Zen." He called them out swiftly as he watched carefully as his student preformed them. "Good." He smiled in approval. Kali nodded minutely before standing with her arms by her side again. She waited patiently as Seto went over to the katana's again,

"Since we were interrupted last night, we will be having an extra-long Kata session to make up for it." He told her before walking to the middle of the mats and gesturing for his student to join him of which she did immediately. Handing over one of the swords, they both bowed before getting into position. Once more with an unseen signal, they attacked each other.

The spar went on for a good hour and a half before coming to a stop, both combatants still had their sword in hand. "Yame." Seto commanded and at once the clash of the katanas came to stop. "Rei." (bow) Kali bowed as did Seto.

"That was fun." Kali stated as she handed the sword back over. Seto smirked,

"Indeed. You are well on your way to become a Master Swordswoman." Kali's eyes widened in shock,

"Truly?"

"Indeed. You've learned well." Seto answered with a genuine smile on his face.

" "Thank you." Kali uttered, bowing low. Seto bowed back,

"You are welcome. We have ten minutes before the first class arrives. Go, have a break." He changed the subject.

"Hai, Sensei." (Yes, Teacher) Kali replied, bowing again before leaving to the changing rooms.

Within the changing rooms, Kali had just pulled out her bottle of water when she heard a thud coming from further in. Pausing in bringing the bottle to her lips, Kali narrowed her eyes before standing up. Placing the bottle on the bench and picking up her wand from her bag, she steadily approached,

"Who's there?" She demanded, walking cautiously forwards.

No one answered.

Walking further forwards, Kali stopped suddenly when instead of a person she saw an arrow imbedded within the walls. "What?" She questioned, confused as she moved closer. Without touching it, she inspected the arrow. It was well made, that was her first thought. The fletching was bright red whilst the wood was a pale brown colour. Entwined around the shaft was a gold and red ribbon with a lion embedded on it. "What?" She repeated, growing even more perplexed. Looking around, to see where the hell the arrow could have come from, Kali could see nothing out of the ordinary. Looking at her wand, she growled, "This would be about the time where I could use a diagnostic charm." She muttered. Seeing that she had two choice, one: to leave and ignore it or two: take it. After debating for a minute, the fifteen-year-old reached forwards and grabbed the shaft before pulling it cleanly out of the wall.

Immediately a great gust of wind appeared from nowhere and surrounded her.

"Somehow I knew something like this would happen." She muttered, not surprised at all as she kept hold of both arrow and wand as the wind got even stronger.

Less than ten seconds after pulling out the arrow, Kali Potter, The-Girl-Who-Lived, vanished.
