It was a rainy day in Seattle. As Ana walked out of the office, the rain seemed to intensify.
``Great`` Ana said while rolling her eyes. Holding her jacket above her head, she headed towards the little coffee a few blocks away from the publishing house she was working at in Downtown Seattle. Jose, who also was hired a few weeks ago as a digital artist, recommended the place to Ana knowing that she would love the place.
-(Flashback)-
``You should really go and check out this new place Ana, mind you, they decorated in a pretty sleek style! I'm sure you're gonna loooove it. `` Jose said while sitting on Ana's desk at the office.
``Great! I think I will next week. ``
`` Do you mind if I go with you, we could meet there for lunch! `` Jose asked.
`` Yeah, sure. ``
`` Great, I'll text you when I have time next week. `` Jose grinned and left to go to his own desk, situated on the first floor of the building.
-(Back to present time)-
As Ana walked towards the entrance of the café, she was glad that she didn't wait for Jose before leaving the office. Sure the guy was great and they knew each other for a couple of years now, but recently she felt this strange emotion whenever he was around, and not the good kind of one. She decided that she would meet him there, not being able to turn down his invitation but wanting to go anyway.
The café was indeed a really nice place. It looked modern with all the white, but also a bit more rustic with the wood accents on the walls and counter. Also, there were a lot of plants towards the front of the shop and Ana thought it looked like a mini jungle.
`` Hi! What can I get for you? ``
`` Hi! It's my first time here… What would you recommend? `` Ana asked the blonde girl behind the counter.
`` Definitely our carrot cake if you want something sweet, or our soup of the day if you want something more substantial. ``
`` I'll take the cake… and a black tea with some milk please. `` Ana ordered after thinking for a few seconds.
`` Coming right up! ```
After paying for her order, Ana stepped to the side of the counter and waited. She received a text:
Hey Ana, can't make it in time for your lunch break, Sophie handed me some very important files to work on before 14pm, so I have to work on it now. Hope you don't mind :'(
She responded:
Hey Jose, no problem. Hope you get it done by this afternoon. See you at the office!
In the back of her mind, she felt some relief knowing that she would not have to spend her lunch break with Jose. She felt a bit guilty to think that way.
`` One cake and one black tea. `` said a petite woman behind the counter. She handed Ana her cake and tea.
Ana went and sat right next to a window at the front of the café. She seated facing the window to have a view of the people walking outside; she liked doing this and trying to guess what some people were headed to. She tasted her cake and it reminded her of the one her grandma used to make during her childhood. The tea tasted fine too. She got her notebook out of her bag and started planning the rest of her week.
The slow jazz playing in the background and the constant sound of the coffee machines made her feel cozy and inspired. Something caught her attention and she lifted her eyes to look out of the café. A rather tall man was running outside, dressed in some sport clothes. He was rather broad shouldered and seemed pretty in shape; he was drenched because of the rain and that did not seem to bother him.
Their eyes locked for a few seconds and she smiled at the stranger. One corner of his lips lifted in a quick smile. And just like that he was gone. She thought quickly that he looked nice with his dark copper hair.
