Chapter Two

.i do not own yu-gi-oh!.

Yami had woken at four that morning to take Yūgi to the airport so that she would make her flight. Their children were still fast asleep, and neither of them had the heart to wake them for Yūgi to say goodbye. Instead, the tri-colour haired mother kissed each of their foreheads, whispered that she would see them later and that she loved them each, and left the bedrooms they occupied quietly. Yami had taken her SUV since her luggage was already stored away in it and drove her to the airport. When they arrived, she'd gotten out and grabbed her luggage before kissing him goodbye and making her way to the terminal with the promise that she would call him as soon as she landed. Yami watched until he could no longer see her in the crowd before getting back into her BMW and driving back to his home.

When he returned it was only half past five, still too early for any of the children to be awake. He was on vacation this week, and had promised Hikari that he wouldn't do any work. Instead, he would be spending all of his time with her, and now, the twins. He'd even gone so far as to lock his laptop up in the safe located in his home office and have Hikari put the lock key away where only she could find it. He was that serious about keeping his promise.

Plopping down on the couch, he turned on the large television, lowering the volume so not to disturb Hikari or the twins and turned on a movie. He'd only half been paying attention to the movie that played before he dozed off on the couch. He wasn't sure when he'd fallen asleep exactly, or how long he'd been out, but when he woke, he could smell bacon cooking, amongst other breakfast items. He sat up, glancing around the living room. Both Yuki and Hikari were sitting in the middle of the floor, watching Hikari's favourite TV show. Hiyori was nowhere in sight, he figured that she was the one cooking. It couldn't have been Yūgi, after all. He yawned quietly as he sat up and stretched, his joints popping from being released from their cramped positions, gaining Hikari and Yuki's attention.

It was Yuki that spoke as he grinned at the elder man, "Hey you're awake. We were wondering when you were going to get back up."

"What time is it," Yami asked, rubbing sleep from his eyes.

"It's eleven-fifty-three," Yuki answered, glancing at the time on his phone. "We figured you were tired since you had to take Mom to the airport this morning, so we let you sleep in. Hiyori is cooking a late breakfast for us all."

Yami nodded, moving to stand as Hikari spoke. "What are we going to do today, Daddy?"

"I don't know. What do you want to do today, Kar," Yami asked as he stuffed his hands in the pockets of his jeans, irking a brow at the girl.

Hikari placed her finger to her chin, trying to think of something to do. She snapped a moment later when an idea struck her. "How about we go to the beach today? We can invite Uncle Atem, Aunt Mana and Hiba too! If they want to come that is."

"Not a bad idea," Yami said as he turned to glance at the teen that sat by his daughter's side. "How do you feel about the beach, Yuki?"

"I think it's a great idea," Yuki answered nonchalantly as he responded to a text message on his phone. "It's a nice day, after all. We might as well enjoy it."

"And what do you think, Hiyori," Yami asked, turning to glance at the other twin who had emerged from the kitchen. "Would you care to join us for a day at the beach?"

"Sounds like fun," Hiyori pipped happily. "It's a good thing I thought to pack my bathing suit."

"Then it's settled," Yami concluded, "We're going to the beach this afternoon. I'll text Atem and see if he, Mana and Hiba would care to join us. But for now, I'm starving. Is breakfast ready yet?"

"Sure is," Hiyori confirmed, "Let's go eat!"

They didn't need to be told twice.

After eating breakfast and cleaning the kitchen, Yami, Yuki, Hiyori and Hikari disbursed to get ready for their beach day. Yami had text not only his brother, but Mahad, Bakura and Marik as well to see if they and their families would like to join in on a beach day. He'd gotten confirmation that they would all be attending only moments after sending the mass text. Hiyori had also text Marc to include him in their plans, to which he happily agreed to join his girlfriend at the beach with his parents.

Yami had gone to the grocery store and bought enough food and drinks to last the entire day at the beach. When he returned, he'd brought down a cooler for them to pack snacks and the like in, which Hiyori did (she'd made an assortment of cold cut sandwiches and wrapped them to keep fresh). If they needed more food than that, well, there was a snack shack on the beach they could go to. Once the cooler was full, Yami and Yuki packed it, as well as the beach towels and umbrellas into the back hatch.

Once everyone was ready to go, Yami, Hikari and the twins piled into Yami's Mercedes before heading off to the beach. Hikari chatted happily about seeing everyone in the backseat, both Yuki and Hiyori responding where appropriate though they were clearly distracted by their cellphones. It didn't deter Hikari from continuing to speak a hundred miles a minute, however. Yami chuckled lightly as he continued to drive. He was glad that the twins and Hikari got along so well.

"So, who all are we expecting to come today," Yuki asked, irking a brow at Yami.

"Well, I texted my brother, Mahad, Marik and Bakura," Yami answered. "And all four of them are coming and bringing their families with them. I told them to bring more food too. What we brought is not going to feed everyone that's coming throughout the day."

"I also invited Marc to come along with us," Hiyori said, tapping away at her cellphone again.

Yuki choked. He was well aware of his sister's relationship with the Devlin boy. They'd been together for half a year now and it was no surprise that she would invite him. It had just been a surprise because he hadn't known before now that she had invited him. But clearly, Yami was aware because he hadn't reacted at all to the news of the Devlin boy joining them.

When they arrived at the beach, Yami parked the SUV before shutting off the engine and glancing back at the gaggle of kids. "Alright kiddos, we're here. Why don't we get out there and find us a place to set up for the day? Probably won't leave until about sundown depending on how everyone's feelin'."

"Fine by me, Yami," Yuki chuckled, opening the passenger's side door. "It's a nice day, might as well enjoy it as much as we can."

"For once, I agree with my brother," Hiyori said laughing.

Together, the five of them exited the SUV, Yami and Yuki grabbing the cooler, beach towels and umbrellas from the back hatch before they were making their way down to the beach to find a spot. They'd walked halfway across the beach before they found a spot just past the snack shack. The towels and umbrellas were quickly set up and sunscreen was slathered on before Hikari was pulling her father to the water immediately after. Yuki happily joined them, leaving Hiyori behind to wait for everyone else to show up. Not that she minded. She wasn't quite ready to take a dip in the water just yet.

She'd just leaned back, intent on keeping herself shaded when her phone rang in her back pocket. She pulled the iPhone 4s from her pocket, noting that it was Marc calling before she slid the answer button. She placed the phone to her ear, a grin on her face. "Hi Marc, have you made it here yet?"

"Yeah, I'm, here," Marc answered across the line. "Where did you guys set up at? I ran into your Aunt Ryo and Uncle Bakura when I got here, so we're all coming down together."

"We're like halfway down the beach, past the snack shack," Hiyori answered as she stood to look for them. "Where exactly are you guys?"

"Right by the snack shack," Marc answered, "I think I see you? Is that you standing by the white, yellow and pink umbrellas? Wave your hand."

Hiyori did, her amethyst gaze turning to the snack shack. "Oh, I see you guys now. Do you see me waving?"

"I see you now," Marc answered. She could see him pointing in her direction to the group that was with him. "Where's Yami, Yuki and Hikari?"

"They already went for a dip," Hiyori answered. "Hurry up and get your butts over here."

"Of course, of course," Marc chuckled. "We'll see you in a minute."

"See ya soon," Hiyori responded before she hung up and slipped the phone back in her pocket before sitting down under the shade of the umbrella again.

It was only a few minutes later that Marc, Bakura, Ryo, Keiko and Ryuu found their way to the teen. She waved happily when they came into view. Marc leaned in and kissed her cheek as she spoke, "Hi guys, glad you could make it to this little outing of ours today! There's drinks and sandwiches in the cooler, and I have sunscreen if you need it."

"You think of everything, don't you," Bakura chuckled as he laid out his family's beach towels after setting down the cooler they'd brought along. "We brought more drinks and food too, per Yami's request."

"I try to be on top of things as much as possible," Hiyori hummed, a grin on her lips.

"Where's your Mom," Ryo asked, taking a seat beside the teenager. "I thought she would be here with you all, but I don't see hide nor hair of her."

"She got called away to Egypt last minute," Hiyori explained, brushing her hair out of her face that had been blown there by a gust of wind. "She left this morning, she should only be gone a week though at most. There were some Egyptian artifacts the museum wanted her to authenticate, but they weren't allowed to send them to her here to check so she had to go there. She's more than likely still on the plane now as we speak. So, Yuki and I are staying with Yami until she gets back since Grandpa's out of the country visiting a friend and Aunt Joey, Uncle Seto and Kisara are away on vacation. And she couldn't exactly take us with her to Egypt. Though I would have loved to go and see the country."

"Where's the goof, your brother and Hikari then," Bakura asked, irking a brow.

Hiyori jabbed her finger towards the ocean, "Hikari couldn't wait and dragged Yami to the water as soon as we got here. Yuki decided to go along and left me to wait for everyone. I didn't mind though, I wasn't ready to go swimming just yet."

"And who else is going to be coming to this little outing," Ryo asked.

"Uncle Marik, Aunt Malik, Uncle Mahad, Aunt Ishizu, Aunt Mana, Uncle Atem and all the kiddos," Hiyori answered before she turned to Keiko and Ryuu who looked ready to jump into the ocean. "If you guys want to go in, Yami, Hikari and Yuki shouldn't be too far off. I can wait for everyone else on my own."

"Can I go," Bakura asked his wife, giving her the biggest puppy dog eyes he could muster.

Ryo sighed, laughing lightly as she sent him on his way. Keiko and Ryo were quick to follow suit, with Marc tagging along. Ryo had sat down beside her self-appointed niece to wait for the others. Mahad, Marik, Atem and their families arrived shortly after. Hiyori had informed them that the others were already in the water. And much like Bakura had before, Atem, Mahad and Marik begged their wives to go. They had sent them off with eye rolls, telling them to have fun as they shook their heads.

"It amazes me how those men are in their late thirties and early to mid-forties and they still act like teenagers," Mana said laughing.

"Some people never truly grow up," Ishizu chimed in. "They can't help it."

They'd spent the entire day at the beach, swimming and taking turns burying one another in the sand. By the time the day was over, and everyone packed up to head back home, the children were thoroughly exhausted. Hikari had managed to get herself stuck in a wave, resulting in several failed attempts at rescuing her by Yami before Hiyori had finally pushed him, literally, to the side and gone after the girl herself. They'd also spotted several two-meter blue sharks circling about the area. Malik just about had a heart attack when she realized how close one of them had been to Hima.

On the way home, unbeknownst to the children, Yami had stopped for pizza. When he pulled into the driveway of his home and cut the engine, he turned to look at the twins and Hikari, who were all sleeping in the backseat. The side of his mouth pulled upward into a small smile at the sight.

He was getting ready to wake them when his phone rang. Glancing at the screen, he saw that it was Yūgi calling and immediately pressed the answer button, putting the phone to his ear. "How was your flight?"

"Long," Yūgi responded. "How are the twins? Have they given you any trouble?"

"Not at all," Yami assured her. "Hikari had the great idea of a beach trip, so that's what we did today. Invited the whole crew, including Marc, to come along. The kids clearly had fun because they're all knocked out cold in the backseat at the moment."

"Aww," Yūgi cooed through the phone. "Well, I'm glad that the day went well. I just wanted to check in with you and make sure everything was okay. I just got to the hotel, so I'm going to shower, get something to eat then call it a night. I have to go to the museum where those artifacts are being stored tomorrow to start the authentication process."

"Get some rest, Yūgi," Yami urged. "Don't worry too much about us. I can handle the twins and Hikari for a week. You don't have to worry about them. They're in good hands."

"I owe you big time for this, Yami," Yūgi hummed. "Thanks again for helping me out last minute."

"You can just date me, and we'll call it even," Yami joked, earning a chuckle from the woman. "No seriously, it's not a big deal. I enjoy having the twins around. They're not a hassle at all." He glanced in the rearview mirror, noticing that Hiyori had woken up and started to stretch. "Anyway, let me get the kids inside and get them fed. You shower, eat and get some rest."

"Of course, dear," Yūgi laughed. "I'll call you tomorrow. Have a good night and tell the kids I love them."

"Will do," Yami promised. "Goodnight, Yūgi."

"Goodnight Yami," Yūgi returned before the line died.

Yami pulled his phone from his ear, slipping it back into his trunks pocket before he turned to look at the kids again. He noticed that Hiyori had only half woken up and was staring hazily in front of her as if she had no idea where she was.

"Wakey, wakey sleepy heads," Yami called, startling the three, "We're home. Let's get inside, shower and eat before settling in for the night. I bought pizza for dinner."

"Did you get pepperoni," Hiyori asked as she opened her door, yawning in the process.

"I got pepperoni, cheese and supreme," Yami confirmed as he grabbed the pizzas from the front seat and followed her lead. "We'll leave the beach stuff in the car, I'll come get it tomorrow."

"Fine by me," Yuki murmured as he exited the SUV.

Once everyone was out and all the doors were closed, Yami locked them before heading to the front door. He unlocked it, opening the barrier for the kids to go in first before he followed. Their shoes were left at the door before everyone got ready for showers. Once they'd finished and dressed for bed, the blended family settled in the living room where Yami turned on a movie while they ate their pizza. At some point, everyone had fallen asleep and Yami woke the next morning with Hikari's head resting on his chest and the twins asleep on the floor beneath the couch.
