Sorry for not posting yesterday. I had a massive headache and could barely look at my computer screen.
Stlix hadn't known that Ash had even got onto the St Anne, he hadn't seen him in any of the matches he had watched, nor had he seen him when he had walked around the ship. Pikachu looked far happier sat upon his shoulder and waved his paw at Stlix.
Stlix smiled at the antics of the strange Mouse Pokémon even as he readied a Pokémon to throw out. From Ash's side of the field, a burst of red light faded to reveal a Wartortle, an uncommon sight as Stlix knew Ash had not gained the Pokémon from the Professor.
Wartortle was a water type that would be extremely threatening to most of his Pokémon when it became a Blastoise the signature move, Hydro Cannon, would blast away most Rock types. Stlix changed his own pokeball before he threw out Corsola, the bright pink Pokémon landing to sink its spines into the floor.
Corsola was far larger than she had been when he had first caught her, and she was now close to four times the size of Wartortle. The Wartortle was standing close to 3 foot six but Corsola was wider and slightly higher than the Turtle Pokémon.
As soon as the battle started Corsola was instinctively setting up her combo moves of Harden, Endure and Aqua ring. With the Squirtle line unable to learn Electric and Grass-type moves, Corsola would be more resistant to anything Wartortle could throw at her and Ash would require another Pokémon to help or a TM to teach Wartortle any Ground or Fighting type moves.
Therefore, any moves that Wartortle used against Corsola would be, at worst, normal effectiveness and that would make her the most effective fighter against Wartortle. Graveler would fight Pikachu, if he was sent out, and Tyrunt and Gyarados could handle any of his other fighters.
Wartortle had shot out an experimental Water gun, but it was deflected by one of the Aqua rings and then hit the back wall. Corsola fired back with an Ice beam in return, it missed as Wartortle used Rapid spin to move out of the way.
"Water pulse."
"Power gem."
The Rock and Water-type move clashed in mid-air, the Water-type energies triumphing over the Rock-type energies but falling short of Corsola.
"Withdraw then Rapid spin, Wartortle," Ash called at the Turtle Pokémon.
"Hold there," Stlix shouted as the Pokémon shot closer, its ridged shell creating a saw blade with the speed it spun at.
"Hold." Stlix drew out as the Pokémon drew even closer. "Now use Earth power then slam Wartortle away with Rock slide." The Turtle Pokémon was fully committed to the attack now and had no way to withdraw as the earth erupted around it. As Wartortle was shot into the air Corsola shifted into using the next move and forced several tonnes of stone to emerge from the exploded ground and smash into the helpless Pokémon.
Rock slide was taught to Corsola by Buddy during one of their training sessions, it was one of the steelix's oldest known moves having used it a long time before he first met Stlix. After several days of teaching Corsola could grasp the technique with decent proficiency not yet to the standard where she could cause massive damage to structures but able to hit a Pokémon with immense force.
When Buddy last used the move without holding back it was like a natural disaster, Steven had gone to reassure the Hoenn government that there was no problem on the Stone's estate and the partially collapsed mountain was a training accident. It had cemented the idea of how strong Pokémon could get within Stlix's mind.
After being hit by the Rock slide Wartortle shot across the battlefield like a freight train, its shell had immense durability, yet it cracked when it came into the contact with the psychic walls that formed the arena.
Landing on all fours Wartortle slowly struggled to his feet as he stared back at Corsola, slightly agog at the power of the pink Pokémon.
"Finish it Corsola, Earth power. Again." Stlix ordered.
"Wartortle, Protect," Ash shouted, desperation entering his voice. As Wartortle channelled the defensive energies and a green bubble appeared around him Stlix gave a nod of respect. Protect was an extremely powerful move and to hold it up for several seconds was an incredible feat.
Floaty was extremely acute with defensive moves and could hold it up for a long time when supplemented with his own psychic prowess but he hadn't learnt the move until after he had become a Metagross.
The floor's surface tore open again with great fissure, the ground defying gravity in its flight upwards but it green shield of Protect ignored the earthen assault. However, it had taken a toll upon Wartortle to perform the move and as he let the shield drop as the Earth power lost effect the heavy panting was clear to see.
"Corsola. Use Rock slide and Water gun. Waste all of Protect's energy." Stlix ordered. A common tactic against the defensive move was to waste the energy forming it. If Wartortle wasted his energy holding up Protect against a weak Water gun he would be unable to stop the Rock slides attack.
Wartortle defended for several moments, using two more instances of Protect to ward off the worst and Withdraw and Iron defence otherwise. However, he was eventually to exhausted to continue and Corsola knocked the Pokémon comatose.
She gave a cry of victory and Stlix sated his own congratulations to Corsola even as Ash recalled Wartortle and held out a familiar pokeball. It was the pokeball Giovanni had given him in Viridian after stopping the Team Rocket grunts.
The crimson energy dispersed on the field as a large, humped figure took form. Long, shaggy hair with two tusks poking out near the bottom. The large brown humps were distinctive and a feature on the second evolutionary form on one of the strongest Ice-types and strongest Ground types in the world.
Piloswine.
