A fourteen-year-old girl with long curly brown hair climbed a large oak tree that stood beside the Stilinski house. She was climbing toward an illuminated window on the second story. A window she knew all too well. She could easily have used the front door, but this was way more fun. Watching her best friend lose his shit would totally make climbing this freaking tree absolutely freaking worth it.

When she reached the branch that stood just outside his room, she pulled several small pebbles out of the front pocket of her hoody.

Ping.

Ping.

Ping.

After seven pebbles, she finally got his attention.

Aleks Stilinski swivelled his desk chair toward the window. His eyes widened in complete shock before he fell backwards and out of his desk chair. Ava Argent began to hysterically laugh her ass off outside his window. She watched as he struggled to get to his feet. Not once, but twice before he finally managed to make it to the window. After nearly a minute and several strings of curse words later, the window finally opened.

"What. The. Frell. Ava?" Aleks hissed at her as he poked his head out his bedroom window.

Ava simply smirked. "What. The. Frell. Aleks," she mocked.

Aleks shook his head as Ava reached her hands out for him to help pull her inside. With a grunt, he did as she asked. His sweaty hands grabbed hers and he pulled her to safety inside. But he pulled her a little too hard. So much so that he went flying backwards and she landed on top of him. Her long hair flew into his mouth and he spluttered as she laughed at him and pulled her hair from his mouth, muttering about needing a shower.

For a moment, Ava lay there on top of Aleks, looking down at him. Aleks Stilinski was Ava Argent's best friend. He was the only one who had befriended her last year in eighth grade after she had moved to Beacon Hills.

While her older sister Allison had joined the popular crowd, Ava wasn't quite so lucky. But she had Aleks and that was good enough for her. How many friends did one really need after all? Honestly, she was just glad that she had someone to navigate the perils of high school with her.

Not that she would be completely alone at Beacon Hills High School. But in true older sibling fashion, Ava was pretty sure Allison wouldn't want her following her around all day. Thankfully Aleks was in the same boat with Stiles.

Ava was just about to push herself off Aleks when his door opened. Speak of the devil, it was Stiles.

"My eyes!" Stile shouted as he quickly covered his face with his hands.

"Haven't you heard of knocking?" Aleks growled at his older brother as Ava quickly rolled off him.

"Haven't you heard of getting a room?"

"This is my room!"

Stiles groaned, still covering his eyes, but peeking through the gap in his fingers.

Ava walked up to her best friend's brother a.k.a her sister's ex-boyfriend's best friend. She folded her arms across her chest. "OMG, Stiles. It's not even like that, you perv."

The older Stilinski brother slowly removed his hands from his face. He glanced down at the Argent girl in front of him and smirked. While he knew it wasn't like that, he knew for a fact that his brother wanted it to be like that just as much as Stiles wanted things to be like that with Lydia Martin. The only difference was Aleks was much better friends with Ava than he was with Lydia. Stiles just couldn't tell if that would work to Aleks advantage or be his brother's downfall.

When Stiles realized that Ava was still staring at him with an annoyed expression on her face, he just shook his head. "Next time, use the front door, Baby Argent. You know, like a normal person."

"And what would you know about normal?" Ava quickly retorted, which make Aleks snicker.

Stiles wasn't prepared for a comeback. His mouth opened to try to spit something back at her, but Ava slammed the door in his face. Ava turned and looked at Aleks which made both of them burst into giggles. They both fell onto Aleks's bed, doubled-over in laughter when the door suddenly opened again.

It, of course, was Stiles again. "This. Stays. Open!" He announced before he quickly slinked away making Ava and Aleks laugh harder.

"Normal person?" Ava laughed until she was nearly out of breath.

"And what would you know about normal?" Aleks laughed, mimicking his best friend.

It took them a few minutes and one of Stiles's shoes being thrown at them before they finally quieted down. They then lay on the bed beside each other staring up at the ceiling fan as it went round and round.

"Are you ready for tomorrow?" Ava asked without looking at Aleks.

"First day of high school. Of course. Why wouldn't I be ready?"

Ava turned on her side and cocked an eyebrow at him.

Aleks sighed and turned on his side to face Ava. "As long as my first day isn't as bad as Stiles's first day, I'll be happy."

"What happened to Stiles?"

Aleks looked out into the hallway from his bedroom to see if he could see Stiles. He then looked back at Ava and barely talked above a whisper. "If he knows I told you he will kill me. So you can't tell anyone. Got it?"

Ava held out her pinky finger in front of her. "My pinky promises," she whispered.

Aleks smiled and took wrapped his pinky around hers. "Jackson Whittemore dumped a trash can full of trash on him right after lunch in front of the entire cafeteria," Aleks whispered.

Ava winced and released Aleks's finger and rolled onto her back once more. "If it's any consolation, Allison said that Lydia said that Jackson's in London. So at least you won't have to worry about him."

"Yay," Aleks responded sarcastically.

After a moment's silence, Ava asked, "Do you think it's gonna be weird having our siblings at school with us?"

"Have you met Stiles?" Aleks scoffed which made Ava laugh.

"I heard that!" Stiles's voice echoed from the other room.

That made them giggle harder.

When their laughter died down, Aleks and Ava just lay there in silence staring up at the ceiling fan again as it went round and round.

This time it was Aleks who broke the silence. "Just do go getting cool or anything and abandon me."

Ava sat up and looked at Aleks, pretending to be offended. "Are you saying that I'm not cool now?"

Aleks shrugged his shoulders before he started laughing. Ava grabbed his pillow and whacked him with it several times.

"Ow. Ow!" Aleks voice cracked as he laughed each time Ava smacked him. "Uncle! Uncle!"

Ava put the pillow down and smiled at her best friend. "If for some reason I get cool I'll be dragging you there with me kicking and screaming. You're my best friend, Aleks Stilinski and nothing can change that."

Aleks bit back his response that would have claimed otherwise. He knew that some friendships didn't always survive the jump from middle school to high school. But he didn't want to lose Ava. He actually wanted more with her. He hoped that one day soon he would actually work up the courage to ask her to Homecoming. And he hoped that Ava could see him that way and say yes.

"Wanna watch a movie?" Ava asked chewing her bottom lip.

"Is that why you came over? Are you using me?" Aleks teased.

Ava smiled. "Yes and yes. Things are kinda awkward at my house right now. Your house is better."

Aleks nodded his head. Ava shared her feelings about her family situation with him. Sometimes he wondered if she was just getting by, but she always was sure to tell him that things were better with him.

He stood up and walked over to his collection of DVDs. "All right we have Jurassic Park, both Star Wars trilogies, all the Harry Potters, first season of Psych, seasons four and five of Supernatural…"

"C'mon son. You know we're gonna watch us some, Psych!" Ava interrupted.

Aleks was pretty sure she was going to pick that. His hand was already on the box. He grabbed it and pulled the DVD out of the case and put it in the player. By the time Aleks got back to his bed, Ava had grabbed one of his pillows and put it at the end of the bed, lying on her stomach. He plopped down on the bed beside her.

While Ava focused on getting the DVD going, Aleks couldn't help but hope that high school wouldn't change this. But changes were inevitable in life.

This story has been adopted from my friend T. . She can't remember the email to her ff account and doesn't want to continue this story anymore. I volunteered as tribute to take a whack at it. The first two chapters are hers and edited by me. After that it is all me.
