I'm alive! I was looking at the last time I updated this story and it's literally been over a year... sorry about that. I've had college to deal with and on top of that, I had major writer's block the majority of last year. The thing that helped me is my taking a creative writing course this semester. I'm gonna try to be better with my uploads but college is sadly a thing. I'm not gonna promise anything but I hope to have another chapter out later this week since I'm on spring break. I'm not gonna say anymore, you're just here to read the story. Soooo...
ENJOY!
"I hope he didn't break his nose or anything." I muse out loud before slowly moving forwards and poking him with my toe. He jumps right back up with a weird noise before taking a deep breath and looking at me.
"What?" He says but in a really weird high pitched squeaky tone. (A/N: If anyone has seen the show Friends it's like when Ross says "I'm fine")
"From your reaction I'm assuming you really didn't know either. Well that's reassuring.. Your parents said you didn't but you never know."
"Yea-no. I knew nothing about this." Still in the squeaky tone.
"Are you okay?" I ask, worried.
"I'm fine. Why do you ask?" He asks
Does he not notice his voice sounds like a chipmunk?
"Well, you're voice is very high and squeaky." I say slowly.
"I'm just a little shocked from the news. You can't blame me; After all, just a few hours ago, I was planning to make you like me again. Now I'm finding out that I won't need to! We're getting married anyway!" He says with a big smile.
Excuse me?
"Ummmmm No," I say flatly "I said that your parents want us to get married, not that we are." I know that he realises his mistake because he opens his mouth to say something but I cut him off.
"And on top of that, I have the final say. My dad gave me a week to decide what to do. I said I'd talk to you by tonight which I am doing right now. So with that, I'm gonna go back home to tell my dad no thanks, I'd rather die alone." I say then walk away feeling very accomplished. But at the same time, I feel kind of sad.
Literally three hours ago he told me that he was going to prove his feelings and his good intentions. That went out the window fast.
By the time I get back home, it's sundown, and I'm thoroughly pissed off. I slam open the door to my house and accidently startle my dad into dropping the pot he was about to put into the sink. The pot that was full of hot water… which was then poured onto his foot as the pot dropped.
"Oh my gods I am so sorry." I just stand there shocked, watching my dad, the chief of Berk, hop around one one foot holding his other foot up.
When he finally stops, I've moved to the table and he seems to pick up on the tension in my body -which is surprising - and tris to nonchalantly sit in the chair across from mine.
"Soooo? What happened with Austen?"
"Well, I told him and he fainted. The End." I say factually
""Oh come now Hicca, don't you wanna tell your dear old dad what's been happening?"
"Not really no. I'll tell you in the morning." I say getting up from the table.
"Oh come now Hicca, don't you wanna tell your dear old dad what's been happening? We can talk over dinner."
"I'm not hungry. I'll have a big breakfast tomorrow," I say, climbing up the stairs to my room.
"Well then what are you gonna do about the whole marriage situation. You've only got a week Hicca." He calls after me, worry ringing clear in his voice.
"I honestly don't know." I quietly say before softly closing my door for the night.
The next morning I wake up to the sound of somebody in the kitchen. As I get out of bed, I can make out a faint humming sound. I open my door a crack and carefully peek through to see glimpses of a bright orange beard. Dad.
He's never here this late. Why's he here now?
I quietly walk down the stairs and unfortunately, I hit the one stair that creaks which alerts dad to my presence.
"Hicca!" He turns around with a quick smile before whirling back around to finish whatever he was making.
"What are you doing here so late? Usually you're somewhere in the village by now."
"Well you said you were gonna talk about your talk with Austen this morning. I wasn't gonna miss that."
With that, he puts breakfast on the table with a motion for me to sit down and eat. As I start to eat, he sits down too and stares at me in silence until I speak up.
"You know that's really creepy right? You staring at me?"
"Oh, Sorry." He awkwardly shifts in his chair while looking at the shields on the wall while looking at me through his peripheral vision.
"Ok Dad. Thanks for the breakfast, it was great. I'm just gonna go see if Gobber needs help in the forge. I'll see you later. Bye!" I rush out as I quickly place my plate in the sink with a mental note to wash it later before rushing out the door before he can speak up.
As I am running through the village, I hear the dreaded voices of my cousin, and the rest of the teenages, including Austen.
Snotlout's voice sounds over the rest. I can hear them getting closer to me as their voices get louder. It doesn't seem like they've noticed me yet so I quickly hide behind a large wagon with hay on it, blocking the others from seeing me but close enough that I can still hear what they're saying.
"Really Austen, Do your parents seriously think that you actually want to marry the loser?" Snotlout's favorite nickname for me; loser. I inch forward, wanting to hear his reply as clear as possible.
"I honestly don't know 'Lout. I can't understand what gave them that thought. I just know that they gave us a week to sort things out about if it's gonna happen or not." My heart sinks at his words but I can't pull myself away from their conversation.
"Well that's no problem then. You just tell them that you'd never want to marry my loser cousin." A laugh from Snotlout.
"Yeah you're right, there's really no problem then. I'll just tell my parents that I wouldn't ever marry someone like her and then find someway for Stoick to tell his daughter that despite her desperate attempts to marry me, there's no way it'll ever happen."
"Well okay then Austen. Sounds like you've got a plan. I've gotta go help my dad with something though, so I'll see you later." As Snotlout leaves, he doesn't see me behind the wagon. Once he's gone, I peek over and can clearly see Austen's frame still facing the direction Snotlout had gone. I step out from behind the wagon and clear my throat. Austen spins around and pales at the sight of me.
"Hicca." He whispers
Oh of course you'd panic when you're true colors come out.
"How much did you-" I interrupt him, just wanting to get away from this.
"Be quiet Austen. I'm glad to know your true feelings about me. Turns out I was right all along. It's funny that I had just started to believe it too, especially since you didn't know about the plan your parents made up." I give off a harsh laugh that causes Austen to flinch.
"Hicca please" He trails off not knowing how to continue. He, takes one step towards me and it's like that step was what gave me the power to move again.
"Stay away from me." I whisper before running into the forest. There's only one way i'll be able to calm down enough that my dad won't notice it.
Toothless
Hope you enjoyed! Please review this chapter.
I've always been curious where my readers come from and what age group(s) read my story. I'm gonna leave you all with 2 questions:
1. Where are you from?
2. How old are you? (This can be the actual number or an age range)
I love you all!
