For the longest time Pearl could simply stand there her mind unwilling to accept the reality that she was seeing.
Steven, her baby her little bundle of joy had miraculously returned to his most adorable self. As her hand gently patted his puff ball of hair she asked the obvious question turning the small group.
"How?"
Jasper simply shrugged while the other Pearls turned to Spinel who looked like she'd rather answer anything else.
"Welllllll….. it's kid of a long story."
If she was hoping that Pearl would accept that she was proven wrong when she saw the intensity in the pale Pear's eyes.
"Spinel" she said her voice barley contained as not to wake up Steven.
"Okay a while back he got caught in a rejuvenator explosion and became a child."
"What?!"
"Yeah but don't worry I got something that change him back instantly. We we're just worried about him and thought he should have some time off as our little bundle of joy again."
"Our bundle of joy again? Wait? Is this why the diamonds called? Well no matter I'm taking Steven home and I'm going to give those diamonds a piece of my mind."
She gently scooped Steven up a big smile forming as she remembered how she used to this regularly.
He's just as light as I remember.
Steven in hand she turned to leave only to be met with four very nervous faces. Jasper was guarding the entrance with her body and for a moment she worried she'd have to try and fight passed them. Pink Pearl seeing her gem start to glow moved forward.
"Don't worry Pearl we don't plan on taking him away. After all we all love and care for Steven. In fact the only reason he's like this now is because we only want him to be safe and happy right?" she asked the others. Blue and Yellow Pearl nodded looking to Steven as Spinel simply said. "I just want my best friend to be happy."
Jasper sighed in annoyance unblocking the path. "He is my diamond and I will follow him."
Pearl relaxed a bit as the group left the cave and headed into town drawing looks as they passed.
Meanwhile on Homeworld the three diamonds had come to one simple conclusion.
"It's been to long. I know we're all thinking this so Blue, Yellow let's go personally retrieve our little Starlight." They'd waited long enough and as their Pearls had failed to send any kind of message only worried them more.
The nodded as they shrunk down and dashed into the warp pard activating it and flying across the galaxy. It took them less then a minute to reach Steven's home.
One inside White had to resist the urge to hold her nose in revolution.
Oh Starlight why you force yourself to live here is beyond me. You should be living at the palace where everything is nice and beautiful,
Yellow on the other hand wasn't as internal about her disapproval. " Remind me later to send a team of Bismuths here to properly remodel this shack."
Blue however thought that this place was a bit lacking but otherwise cozy.
"Yes it could use a bit of sprucing up but it is still Steven's home. Now let's go find him so I can give him all the hugs I've been holding in."
However once the excited the home they were faced with the obvious problem.
They had no idea where Steven was or even where anything in the town was. While they'd made various trips to Earth and to Steven's hometown in the last few years they'd never really taken the time to explore it.
"Alright how or even where do we start looking for him?" white asked sounding worried and slightly annoyed.
"Our best option is to split up and search for him. I'll start at Homeschool, Blue you've been into the town before right?"
"Yes if I recall most of the inhabitants are friendly enough. What about you White?"
The oldest diamond thought for a moment weighting her options.
I'd rather not expose myself to more of the Earth then necessary. This is his home so there is a good chance he'll simply come to me as this has one of the only two warppads to Homeworld.
She looked back inside at the slightly mess living room and the temple door. Perhaps I can every expand more of the gem structure with my powers.
"I will stay here. Someone has to incase Steven returns."
"Very well, if any one of us finds him signal by returning to your ture sizes or simply send a blast of power into the air."
While Blue and Yellow made their way to their various areas White returned inside and took a good look around.
"Simple wood and stone. Barley a trace of your gem culture. Oh Starlight to think you suffered in silence all these years. You didn't even have your own room until it Yellow and Blue destroyed it."
She easily walked into the gem structure and into the heart of it's power. "Well don't worry. Grandma will make sure you're properly taken care of."
She place a hand on the temple heart and activated her powers. Almost instantly the pink red crystal lit up with a brilliant white as her powers easily took control of the ancient device. The various tubes and hallways lit up as her power strengthened it. As she was connect to it she looked into it's memories and the memories of int's inhabitants.
One of the first things she saw was her little Starlight fighting what appeared to be some food monster vanquishing it only regrettably say he only wanted to enjoy a meal with them.
A soft smile formed on her face as the gems looked a the melting monstrosity before saying that they would love to have a meal with them.
As the memory faded it was replaced with Pearl humming while picking up his various clothing.
"You're growing so quickly Steven. Seems like just yesterday I was knitting you a red onesie. Now you say you're a big boy." The next few memories were a bit to fragmented for her. Just random sights, usually of Garnet destroying things but there was one that caught her attention. One of the oldest that showed Pink in her Rose disguise stepping away from the heart.
"there we go, now the four of us can have a place to call our own. Wish more then just the four of had survived though…" her eyes began to water before she wiped them free.
"No, I saved four and the others aren't' gone, at least not completely. One day I'll find a way to change them back. And at least now the Earth will be free from Homeworld."
White's gem ached as she saw little Pink starlight up close. Thought the link she looked just close enough to reach out and touch. However reality set it when Rose turned and the memory faded. Pulling away she was left with the same thought she had every time she thought of Pink.
I miss you Pink. We all do. Seeing the glow of her power spreading she thought to what the temple could truly be. But for now there was something more important she needed to do. Back in the main home she looked around before walking up the stairs to Steven's room. The lock on the door snapped with a single blast letting her in. She'd only been in his room once but she'd been curious about something and after only a moment found all of the archaic video recordings of him growing up. She'd politely she might add asked his Pearl to send them so that they to could see him growing from the smaller earthling to the form they knew and loved.
Her response had been a slightly polite. "I'm sorry White diamond but the technology their on is to primitive for anything Homeworld has to view it. You may however come here and view them if you wish."
That had irked her to no end. Mainly due to the fact she was right. But now she was here, alone with the precious tapes. And she was going to enjoy every last second. But before her hand could press the play button she aimed her hand upward shooting a small wave of power that came in contact with the lighthouse above turning it into a temporary eye constantly scanning the area for gem movement.
With that carried out she sat down on the bed and pressed play the screen sprang to live before showing a newborn Steven crying out his organic father tired to cradle him.
Even though it was just a video she couldn't help but want to reach out and take him. It wasn't even three minutes into the video when she grabbed a couple boxes of tissues just to dry her eyes.
When she got to the second tape and saw him take his first steps as well as trying to speak the boxes were completely gone.
"I'm taking these back with me. These precious recordings must be saved on a proper device. Yes once we got back with our little Starlight that's the first thing I'm going to put my gems on.
