Story in a nutshell: Elena helps Mateo find someone to talk magic with. If only it was that easy.

Authors Note: Yay new story! Maybe a Harry Potter thing up later this week if interested? Definitely other ideas swirling around. Someone mentioned a Mateo x Valentina bonding story and I wanted to spin that to include more wizards. Also the Conjurers Conference is a reference to the Sofia episode Day of the Sorcerers (although probably not the same one).

Enjoy!

Elena covered her mouth as she just yawned and rubbed her back slightly. She had slept funny the night before for some reason. Not seeing where she was going, she had bumped into Mateo leaving the wing of the castle he had made a home.

"Hi Elena," he said hugging her. "Guess what I spent all night doing?"

She looked down at his hand and only giggled. "I guess writing?" she asked pointing to the letter in his hand.

"Oh, right but guess who I was writing to?" he asked this time covering the name on the front. She had just shaken her head a smile on her lips. It wouldn't be that hard to guess before nodding at him.

"Let me guess, princess Sofia?" she said teasing him. "You guys talked a lot about magic when we saw her."

Mateo just nodded and started to tell her about each spell she had taught him. He even sent a few spells her way. He was really hoping that Sofia would send him a wand next time. Not only that but she had taught him how to send priority mail. Like the letter would be there in an instant. Together they walked down to the breakfast room, beating everyone in the castle there.

"Part of me really wishes that I had someone I could talk magic to," he said wistfully playing with a spoon. "Not that I can't with you Elena!" He had caught himself and Elena just shrugged.

"I like magic, but I get it. It's like me and Gabe talking about fencing, if I didn't have him, I don't really have anyone that I would talk about it with. Abuelo maybe but he can't exactly teach me new moves," she said. Pondering what she could do Elena nodded at him. "Hey why don't I write to some local royals? I bet someone like King Juan Ramon has a royal wizard that you could talk to. Or Sofia mentioned that she had a tutor from a magic school. Or…" A sly look on her face. "Princess Valentina was learning magic. Maybe you could learn a thing or two, you looked like you were getting along at Chloe's birthday."

Mateo had coughed. "Well maybe all three?" he asked before more people came down to eat. Not pushing the issue, she had just decided to write. With any luck maybe she could hear back from them soon.

It had taken a week or so, but Elena had secured the Cordoban royal wizard for a visit. Sofia said that she would send her private tutor over. Valentina said that she would be there as soon as possible. Eager Elena was ready to sit in and watch to see what they would do. Then again maybe they would just talk about magic.

Waiting in the foyer she jumped to open the door. Armando had brought over an elderly looking man with him. Oh so this had to be Juan Ramon's royal wizard. Not only that but King Juan Ramon had come to visit himself.

"Queen Elena!" said King Juan Ramon joining her on the couch. "Mateo, this is my royal wizard Emilio."

"It's nice to meet you," said Mateo. "It's so great to meet other wizards."

He had cleared his throat clearly a little nervous. Elena didn't realize how young Mateo would be in comparison to some of the others. She shrugged knowing how hold Valentina was and maybe Sofia's tutor wouldn't be that much older.

"I've heard so much about you, I knew your abuelo," said Emilio taking his hand and shaking it vigorously. "It'll be so wonderful to talk. I haven't been able to speak to so many wizards since the Conjurers Conference."

The way he moved and talked made him seem so much younger than how he looked. Maybe that wouldn't be so bad. He even looked like the wizard Mateo thought he would be with a long beard, half moon glasses, and a long golden robe on.

Another knock at the door to find Valentina coming in next.

"Queen Elena!" she said running up to her and hugging her. "It's so nice to see you. And Mateo!"

Then she went and hugged him too. "Look I even got a new special wizards' outfit." She spun around to show off a dark pink off the shoulder gown that hung to her ankles with half sleeves, and golden embellishments all over the skirt. Her tamborita in her hand.

"Very pretty," said Elena.

"I'm happy to have you here," said Mateo excitedly clutching his tamborita a bit relieved to see a familiar face.

Finally, Armando had led in two girls that looked eager. Squealing happily Elena raced over to hug Sofia. She couldn't pick her up any more like she did that one time, but it was always fun to see her.

"I'm so happy to see you too," said Sofia a little short of breath. "You can let go now." Right she let go and gestured over. "This is my magical tutor Sonia! She also knows how to use a tamborita too so no wands."

"Hi," said the girl. She looked very pretty with her dark red hair loose.

"Cute outfit," said Valentina. "I might model something after that."

Sonia blushed looking down at the plain turquoise gown that reached her midcalf. A white vest reached her mid thigh with a belt just above her natural waistline. The belt holding her tamborita against her hip.

"HI," said Mateo a little more nervous for some reason. Elena just looked at him for a second as he blushed looking at Sonia.

"We'll go and get some snacks," said Elena gesturing for everyone to sit and get comfy. "And Mateo and I will be right back."

With that she looped her arm through her friends and pulled him to the kitchen. The others had all started to talk and get friendly with each other. Elena smiled at Mateo as he looked nervous. She rubbed his shoulder comfortingly the walk silent.

"I feel a little out of my depth," said Mateo breaking it and froze up some. "I mean, Emilio said he knew my abuelo and he knows so much that I don't know if I can keep up. Sonia went to a magical school; she knows how to use a wand and a tamborita! I feel like I know more then Valentina, but does that make me conceited?"

Then he started to ramble before Elena stopped him. She had taken him by the shoulders calming him down by making deep breaths. He mimicked her actions making him a bit calmer.

"Mateo this is good trust me. Emilio can't say he helped defeat Chatana and you still have a lot to learn it's a great valuable insight. Sonia could teach you a lot of the technical side of magic, but she doesn't have experience like you do. Valentina may know less then you, but she could know very different spells. This is great!"

That seemed to calm him down a bit some before he opened his mouth to ask another question. Then promptly closed it smiling at her.

"Right right, thank Elena I needed that," he said. "I'm just glad to be able to do this and have fun. That's whole reason why I wanted to meet other wizards. To learn and make friends."

"You got this Mateo," she said. "I'm proud of you. Next time I'll have Queen Abigail and King Joaquin's royal wizards over."

Mateo laughed wondering what their wizards were like.

"Gracias," he said as they rounded into the kitchen and took a tray of snacks. Although he did eat one or two pieces of the chocolate. Following his lead Elena carried another tray to the where the other wizards or sorceress in Sonia's case gathered. Stepping back Elena watched for a minute as Mateo started to talk with Valentina about a new spell that she had learned.

Clapping her hands together she took another snack before leaving to do business with King Juan Ramon. Then catch up with Sofia after dinner. With that she was off for Mateo to learn some magic.
