Story in a nutshell: In a modern setting, Elena meets all her friends in college.

Authors Note: My Elena stories are going to be updated once a month, unless I get like a lot of ideas. It's not like I don't have ideas but... I'm still working on multiple stories that I already started and intend to finish this year one at a time, including other Disney Princessses as per my only new years resolution. Also really wanted to write something modern, it's been awhile. I might do Elena meeting Sofia through the big brothers big sisters program sometime.

I'll see what I can do about requests, but I'm not going to promise anything.

Fun fact: Mateo's female roommates are Sonia (my oc) and Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Elena's roommate named Jasmine is from Aladdin.

Toda esta escuela está loca is translated to This whole school is crazy.

Enjoy!

Elena Castillo tossed her long braid down her back and hugged Mateo. He had been her long-time friend and for most of their senior year, boyfriend, until they agreed to start fresh in college. Now he was going to this fancy schmanzy science and technology university on the other side of town from hers. It was move in day.

"Let's make plans to meet up next week on Monday, classes end at 5 for both of us on that day," said Elena perkily looking over her schedule and his.

"Are you sure?" he asked a bit surprised tugging at his gold and red tee shirt. "I mean we broke up and our schools…"

"Are not that far apart," said Elena putting an arm around him. "Listen Mateo if we were meant to be together, we'll find each other. Your family literally lives next to my family. I can see into your bedroom from my window."

"As if that's not creepy," said Mateo with a laugh and rubbed the back of his neck. "Alright, we'll meet up on Monday. I might even see you to tell you all about my chemistry classes!"

She just gave him a look that made Mateo laugh. Shaking her head, the Latina hugged her friend and then waved when his mother took him to his college. That's right Elena Castillo just started university in Phoenix. She and Mateo would catch up and see what they were up to in the meantime.

Walking to her dorm Elena smiled brightly at each girl on her floor. Then threw open her door to find a new girl blond girl with her parents in the room. They had introduced themselves as Scarlett and Daniel before quickly hugging their daughter and then heading out the door.

Now she was alone with who she was sure was going to be her new friend.

"Hi! I'm Elena, it's great to meet you," she said pulling her into a hug. "Sorry I'm a hugger and I think we're going to be great friends."

Maybe that was too soon before the blond girl just laughed. "No you're fine, I'm just still a little tired from the plane ride. I'm from North Carolina, right on the Virginia border actually," she said. "I'm Naomi Turner by the way."

"Hi, its nice to meet you. I'm from around here though my neighborhood is literally an hour away by car," said Elena laughing with ease and then looked around and down the hall. "I can't believe this is all ours."

Then a new voice piped up from the kitchenette area. "Not really this is a six person suite, three other girls will be in that room," said a girl with long black hair and a belly shirt on. "I'm Jasmine you're roommate."

"Yay," said Elena and remembered not to hug her just in case. "Have you met the other girls yet?"

She shook her head and they started to unpack stuff into the kitchen. This time chatting about different stuff here and there. Two new faces joined them unloading food into the shelves. Eventually the third had come and had introduced themselves as Valentina, Rebecca, and Chloe.

They had made a frozen pizza too exhausted from unpacking to even cook.

"So, I guess we get to know each other by playing twenty questions? I'm sure that I could cook up something scandalous," said Valentina sitting down at a couch she had brought.

"Or truth or dare," suggested Jasmine.

"I'll stick to twenty questions,' said Elena quickly not ready to do something daring right away, although that might change in an hour. "And I got one question already. Who's ready to start our dorm party extravaganza?"

With that Chloe turned on some music and the pizza passed around. Twenty questions being passed around from person to person. Majors? Check. Valentina was majoring in physics. Any friends on campus yet? Just each other. Clubs they wanted to join? Elena wanted to sign up for big brothers' big sisters.

Chloe was still undeclared, but this was her mom's alma mater and was going to try to have fun. Rebecca and Naomi shared a couple of classes together. Jasmine and Elena both had few things in common including their dads passing on the family business to them.

Then Elena got a text from Mateo halfway through a third slice she was that hungry. Help, my roommates are already driving me crazy.

"Anyone want to come and play mediator?" she asked looking at everyone.

"I will," said Naomi.

With that they were off to the other college. It was easy to find Mateo's dorm after he gave them directions. The door opened and a shoe was thrown into the hall as Elena ducked narrowly avoiding it and peered in. Two people were fighting. Mateo was ducking behind the counter of the kitchen table. A girl didn't even look up. A boy was eating popcorn watching them.

"You following me to the same college is one thing. But to share the same room as me, it's loco! Toda esta escuela está loca," she said and screamed into a pillow.

Mateo had waved at her and she just crouched down next to him.

"That's Marisa and her brother Marzel. I bet you know just what happened." He pointed to each person and then at the other person in the room, who he called Alonso.

"Yep," she said and looked at him closely. "Mateo you didn't tell me that they put you in a coed dorm."

"I just found out and then this happened, and I called you. Please help!"

Nodding at him she stood up and crossed over the room. Neither of the two had really stopped arguing and now they were arguing about silly things.

"Hey, hey!" called Elena rushing over to them. "It can't be that bad sharing a dorm together. Think about it this way you have four other people in the rooms. You don't' have to spend time in the dorm and it's pretty nice you'll have each other. When you get home sick, you'll have each other to go to."

This was going too fast for her and part of her didn't think that the improved speech would work. The brother and sister pair looked at each other and just shrugged. All siblings fought and this wasn't too bad. She and Isabel had some blow ups here and there. They shared a long look and then at her.

"Who are you?" asked Marisa.

"I'm Mateo's friend," she said.

It was quiet enough for them to hear a knock at the door. Mateo opened the door and a new guy stood there with his arms crossed. He was kind of cute with muscles bulging slightly and a kind yet stern look on his face. On his chest was a visitor's pass name tag with the name Gabe scrawled on it in neat handwriting.

Sheepishly the other boy that had slinked away pretending he never saw this.

"Alright everyone cool off," he said. "I'm dropping my cousin off down the hall and we can hear you arguing. Also is this someone in here's shoe?"

Marisa took it and blushed at him.

"Everything's fine,' said Marzel glancing at him. "She really helped us."

Marzel waved to Elena and she warmed up a little waving back. Yay, her first day was going a lot better and then Gabe looked at her and Naomi. He smiled at her and she just flushed a little. He was kind of cute and she glanced at Mateo who had gotten drinks from their fridge. He didn't seem to mind though.

Marzel and Marisa did a small hug which made Elena think that she made a difference. Mateo had the same set up as her in a double room suite.

"Hey why not all go out and get some milkshakes?" asked Naomi. "I mean that could make you feel better! Our dorm just had pizza."

"Works for me,' said Mateo quickly.

The others did too, and Elena texted her new friends as well. A giant table and she learned that Gabe went to her college and a law student at that. Mateo even found the third girl that moved in and invited her. Besides Marisa, his other female roommates were girls named Aurora and Sonia. They were pretty cool, Sonia was a chemistry major like Mateo. Aurora wanted to do her dissertation on sleep disorders one day.

No parents, a few rules to follow, and new friends just made college all the better for her.
