I don't own Chuck
A/N: Hello! Thank you for checking out this other little Chuck/Sarah story. I was inspired to do another one, more on the fluff side (or cheesy side) after writing "Sarah vs. Numbness" (which, I thank you readers for your reading and reviews).
There still may be OOC in the characters but if that's the case, please let me know.
Enjoy!
Time.
That was one of the most complicated concept for some. It was an event that had occurred, is occurring, or will occur. Sometimes letting time take over could contribute to both the positive and the negative effects in a person's life. For Sarah Walker, she was going at her own pace and allowing 'time' to do its own job...no matter how frustrating it was. Months ago after she had shared a kiss with Chuck at that beach, it had sparked some memory into her mind though it had not been enough for her to remember all of it.
As of now, she and Chuck shared a home together though it was not one where they had intimate contact with one another. To her, it seemed that they were more like roommates than a couple. There would be moments where they shared the television together, helped each other do the chores around the house, and sometimes cook for one another as opposed to ordering take-out. As for Chuck, he had been very respectful to Sarah current rules about suddenly living in the same house, though Sarah could sense his desire of wanting to be closer to her than they already were. She disliked the thought of being a stranger to this man who had poured his heart out to her when he recounted the memories that they had been together, ones that made Sarah laugh and cry. However, she didn't want to immediately jump into a relationship that she was trying to piece together. Somewhere in that time, in that alternate universe, she had enjoyed every moment that she had with this man but now she was, what she secretly called herself, a 'New Sarah' and she was starting out fresh.
This 'New Sarah' though, she didn't know what Chuck thought of her. She couldn't tell whether he was respecting her out of pity or just doing it because he truly loved her. How could he love someone when they didn't remember him, or even pistol-whipped him? However, Sarah already knew the answer to that. It was because of the memories that he remembered of the true Sarah and with every passing day, he was trying hard to help her regain those stored memories. There were there somewhere, but they were difficult to retrieve.
Now was not the time to focus on the what could have been, but to focus on the present. Sarah was willing to try her best and not become too frustrated with herself and she had found the perfect therapy for that. It was cooking and she had made a couple of dishes for Chuck, whom he had enjoyed. There was something in his reaction that made her realize that she had previously cooked for him before through that thankful smile that he had and those eyes that brightened whenever he tried her food. She couldn't tell whether he actually liked it or if he just enjoyed her cooking, just as much as she did. Now, aside from the main course dishes that she made, she was giving her try on cupcakes. Nothin was better than having a little sweet treat along with some frosting on top, the homemade kind.
Sarah looked up when she noticed the noise of footsteps coming down the stairs and a slight smile came to her lips when she noticed Chuck. He was in his night robe as he come downstairs, along with his ruffled hair that at times made the blonde laugh. "Good morning," Sarah said, "looks like you had a good night's sleep."
Chuck would say differently to that. There were moments when he had recurring nightmares with Sarah disappearing right in front of his eyes, but in reality she was always in front of him and that bought him peace. However, Chuck would never mention his dreams to Sarah...not yet anyways. "I would say so," he said, "why did you get up so early?" he asked before sniffing the atmosphere of the kitchen. "What's that smell?"
As if on cue, Sarah knelt by the oven and pulled out the tray of cupcakes from the oven. They were perfectly baked after she inserted a small toothpick into one of cupcakes and it came out clean. "Perfect," she said and settled the tin onto the table. "You're just in time for one of my cupcakes."
"Alright," Chuck smiled and reached for one before Sarah playfully swatted his hand.
"You need to let them cool first," she said to him, "and after I frost them."
"So you're saying, I gotta wait to eat this masterpiece?" he asked her.
Sarah chuckled at his joke, which made Chuck believe that he was making some progress with her. "No," she said and picked up a plate behind her that was a couple of beautifully frosted cupcakes. "I made these earlier."
She set the plate between them and offered one to Chuck. He thanked her and took the tiny dessert in his hand and bit onto it, savoring the sweetness.
"How are they?" she asked, awaiting the moment of truth.
Chuck looked from the cupcake and then over at Sarah. "All I'm going to say is, you have turned into a real girl."
Sarah's smile slowly faded when Chuck said that. There was some sort of familiarity on those words that sparked a memory that had happened who knows how long ago. She lowered her eyes on the countertop and rested her palms on the edge. She closed her eyes and focused on those words that bought back an image in her mind. There she was, standing by the stove and cooking...was it eggs for breakfast? Yes it was! She was making breakfast and Chuck had looked a bit confused as to why she was doing it, yet he seemed to be enjoying it at the same time.
"You better be careful Sarah, one day you might turn into a real girl."
Those were the exact same words that he had said to her during...who knows how long ago, and it bought a smile to her lips.
Chuck furrowed his brows and leaned close to the woman before him. "Sarah?" he said, raising his hand and about to gently touch her hand but he pulled back remembering her little rule about intimate contact. "Are you alright?" he asked her.
Sarah slowly bought her eyes up and looked at Chuck. They were glazed over with the charming memory that she remembered and right now, she saw a very different person sitting before her. There was a feeling that she had for him long ago and it was beginning to slowly come back. "I'm fine," she reassured him, "but you won't be."
Before Chuck could react, Sarah took the spatula that was in the bowl of frosting and dabbed it onto his nose. "Hey!" Chuck laughed when she did that. He reached over for a spoon, dipped it into the frosting and jumped over the counter towards Sarah.
"No!" Sarah held up the frosted spatula between them but that didn't have enough power to stop Chuck. He reached over and smeared the sweet frosting towards her cheek. A laugh escaped from her lips and Chuck made a run for it, causing Sarah to chase after him. "Get back here!" she yelled as she sprinted over to the living room only to run into Chuck.
The contact caused them to stumble into the arm of the sofa and tumble onto it. The two laughed with one another at their attempt of attacking one another with the frosting. Sarah adjusted herself before realizing that they remained into close contact with one another...a rule that they had broken. She stared down and Chuck as another realization fell into her mind. "I..." she hesitated at first, "I remember. I remember you being in the kitchen when I was cooking breakfast."
Even Chuck realized that he should probably move away from Sarah the moment that they hit the sofa, but it was just a nice feeling having her so close to him. The moment she said those two simple words, he let out a sigh and wrapped his arms around her shoulder. He felt her head upon his chest and clinging onto his arm. "We're making progress Sarah," he said those words and she lifted her head and looked at him. "You'll be there soon."
"How soon?" Sarah asked him. "It has been months that we've been sharing the same home and this is...the first time that we've been this close."
Chuck smiled and shook his head to her. "It's not the first time," he told her, "and it won't be the last."
A feeling of relief came over her. She didn't know how she wound up so lucky to be with a man that showed his love and was willing to help her. With time, she was going to finally remember and realize how important they were with one another. She stood up to her feet and took a hold of Chuck's hands and he lifted himself off the couch. She stood there for a mere moment, taking in his features. Willingly, she bought her lips forward and pressed them upon his and he returned the desire.
There was another thing that Chuck had told her but it was something recent. I just need you to know that where ever you go, I'll always be there to help you.
Here she was, with him and he had been helping her all this time trying to retrieve at least some of the memories that they had together. Just like she had helped him save his life in the past, he was saving hers.
The End
