"I assume that is related to what she did to those SUVs?" Drasna asked. After all, Olympia had not had her main battler – the female Meowstic – and probably no others either, since the Mind Break had only held her, as far as she had been told.
"Worse than that." Fantina snorted weakly, resting her head on one hand as she looked up at the building. "With the SUVs, she considered the living." The purple-haired woman whispered. "She did not back in the day."
"Ma chère..." Therese looked over, one hand settling on the sparkly knee. "Let me start from the beginning."
"That makes everything even more ominous." Wulfric considered the two women. "And that is saying a lot, considering the time we are talking about."
"it does, doesn't it?" The Church-member took a deep breath. "Now, try not to interrupt me, I'd prefer finishing the start at least before Gerard returns."
"It must have been hard on him, if he and Olympia were already together back then." Steven mused, leaning back a bit on his seat.
"Oh yes… he blames himself for the entire ordeal still." The grey-clad woman looked down when her Pokémon whined softly, clearly knowing what his trainer was about to start talking about. "You see… we all studied in Unova. He did Law, Olympia did some kind of Management and I did… a thing." She trailed off briefly. "Anyway, the people assigning dorm-rooms put me and Olympia together, on account of being the only two female Kalosian exchange-students, which is how we met…" She chuckled, eyes fixed on the blue form which was as much in her lap as it could be. "Somewhere around the second semester, she and Gerard became an item – upsetting like half of our fellow students, since both were considered great catches for differing reasons – and he regularly came to hang out at our room." She took a deep breath which devolved into a chuckle. "Fun fact about him, he looked like a punk-emo-hobo back in the day; he wanted to do most of the financing himself. He let his father pay the tuition, but he wanted to pay for everything else himself."
"With the caveat that he would ask for money in emergencies." Fantina chuckled as well. "Clothes were not an emergency, so his aesthetic was 'intentionally' scruffy outside of official occasions."
"It was all fine and dandy, until sometime shortly after the Summer started." Therese took over again, face falling. "Nimbasa's amusement park had opened a new roller coaster, the largest and fastest back in the day, so the three of us decided we'd go there one weekend to see it." Her fingers trailed over the Water-type whose head was on her lap still. "I learned that day that I cannot handle roller coasters. I learned four months later that my father was monitoring everything, including the social media – such as there were back then – of my friends." Briefly, ever so briefly one of her hands became a fist. "We had been taking pictures, for our other friends and our families back in Kalos and Olympia had snapped one of Gerard having to help me to a bench because… well… I can't handle roller coasters. None of us thought anything of it; he was – and is – utterly devoted to her, so why assume anything more than a friend helping a friend?"
Diantha found that something darkened in the other's face and she almost wanted to ask her not to continue, but before she could, the other woman already had.
"My father however did." The scritching of her Pokémon turned absent-minded, mind having moved far beyond this place and time, back to that Summer so long ago. "When he saw that picture, of me being half-carried by punk-emo Gerard, he considered it proof of one of his undeniable facts. So when I came back for vacation, he confronted me… In his mind, the fact I allowed Gerard so close meant I had to be sleeping with him, which meant I was sleeping with anyone who asked – which in his mind was all male students and probably some female ones as well… as to why I still had good grades? Obviously I was sleeping with all the professors to get them to give me those grades." A small smile formed, looking just that tiniest bit unhinged.
Beside her, Fantina was clearly wondering if she ought to interfere. Diantha was almost hoping she would, because this was not going to be a fun conversation for any of them.
"Which was of course not true, something which I kept stating… even as he threatened me with his kind of 'punishment'… as he ordered it…. As he killed my mother and the only other decent person in the room..." Green eyes burned. "I paid for my standards, for my refusal to bend to my father's delusions with two lives… and four-and-a-half hours of torment… all while he was merely watching, looking like he had won a great victory over me."
"When instead, his actions meant he had lost." An older man appeared, carrying a tray with shot-glasses and a bottle of thick, brown strong liquor. When he filled the crystalline glasses, it was nearly to the brim.
"How is she?" Fantina looked up with sad eyes, taking the glass and downing it in one go.
"It will take her a good while." His eyes were sad. "Gerard seems to help, at least." He looked up at the League-members, striking purple eyes meeting Diantha's and seemingly boring into her soul. Straightening a touch, he left the bottle in the middle of the group before returning to the building.
"Who…?"
"Olympia's older brother." Hearthome's Gym Leader watched him go. "The one whose post-wedding celebration was ruined."
"While I was being interrogated by my father, Olympia's brother was marrying… I knew this, and had long ago asked Olympia if I could get a look..." Therese seemed to have calmed a touch between the update and the alcohol, even if she had already drunk a second glass. "I was not invited, since obviously no one but Olympia knew me, but I knew of her powers so we had agreed she'd give me a quick look at it… She did shortly after the beatings and rape started."
A shudder ran through Fantina at that statement and Diantha wondered for a moment if she was looking at the little scared girl under the desk again. Perhaps they should have insisted she leave after all.
"It was one of two things I greatly regretted that day; I clung to anything that offered me comfort… I clung to Olympia's mind and to this day, she refuses to tell if I held her there throughout it all or whether she willingly staid with me and shielded me by her own will." There went a third glass. "Either way, Olympia's mind shielded mine for the entire time… only at the end did she leave me… for all of a few moments, after which she returned physically." The Seadra interfered when she wanted to go for a fourth glass, bodily placing himself between her and the bottle. In answer, she merely put down the glass and continued talking. "But she was… unhinged – after all, who wouldn't be after that ordeal? - and her teleport was wild and unrestrained. She dragged along her mother, who had been closest and poor little Fantina, who unlike most others nearby had no shielding-ability to speak off."
"We arrived just outside the room you found her." Fantina whispered. "She exploded the doors, and her mother told me to run before I saw anything inside the room… but I felt it. I felt Olympia's rage all the way down to the library."
"You saw it, as well." The other added softly.
